Nadal has meant a lot to the sport and many children see / saw him as the great idol. Especially in Spain, of course, since not many players have reached the world top in recent years, apart from Nadal. Not even on gravel. Now you have Alcaraz, but the supply before that was very minimal. A pity for a great tennis country like Spain. but it seems that Alcaraz will take over from Nadal, as he is increasingly dealing with injuries. I wouldn't be surprised if he retires soon, but I suspect he wants to do it in style and so if he wants to aim all arrows at the Grans Slam tournament in Paris, and if he won that then put an end to his impressive career.

I would assume that at his level he also has access to the best doctors out there. A hamstring injury can take some time, but it obviously depends on how severe it actually was. If it was a minor damage in the hamstring, a young and fit guy like him is likely to recover very quickly. It shouldn't be too big of a deal. Though he should avoid at all cost to let an injury become a chronic problem, but it's not that likely for a muscular issue to turn chronic. Now in Nadal's case if I remember correctly we have seen a couple of times that he had problems in the abdominal zone, but you can usually analyze that very precisely through NMRI examinations.

What I fear is that sometimes players take these types of injuries lightly. And that turns out to be a big mistake for them. So I do not think that they are going to take an injury like the hamstring lightly. The hamstring is a muscle that needs to be very strong and 100% for any athlete. If any athlete in any sport does not take care of his hamstring properly, he is going to get injured again soon. So I am actually going to support Alcaraz in taking as much time as he needs to recover instead of rushing things.

Rafael Nadal is already quite old. He has had an incredible career. At this stage of his life, there are going to be some certain problems that are going to be unavoidable. And he is also going to need more time compared to younger players to recover.

Regards

Duke

Yes but as with every injure there is a wide range of different degrees of the injury. There are, however, players who by nature are more prone to muscular injuries than others. In soccer I could mention Arjen Robben when he played for Bayern Munich. A highly professional player but he was injured so often and nobody understood why. It is genetics.

In tennis it was del Potro who could have had a way more successful career than he had anyway. But injuries were too big of a burden to him.

Nadal was taken care of very well and his style is also very taxing on anything like the muscles, the tendons, the ligaments. The joints in general. Djokovic has a lighter style, he isn't going too hard with his joints. All of that also plays a role in regards to how healthy they can stay throughout their career.

And sometimes it really is just genetics when a player doesn't even live the healthiest lifestyle possible and is never injured anyway.

Thats an upset for Tsitsipas to bow out so early in the competition.

Medvedev came through his match with Nakashima in 2 sets, Sinner is looking ok
and has taken the first set against Gasquet. Felix AA is currently playing Martinez,
Rublev won earlier against Lehecka, these IMO are most likely to trouble Medvedev
who himself has to be the favourite.

In the WTA im not betting but I'm keeping an eye on Raducanu who is playing now
against Linette.

Also keeping an eye on both Swiatek and Krejčíková given the recent win by her over
Swiatek in Dubai. They are on the opposits sides of the deaw here - interesting

Medvedev is going to play against Ivashka in the next match which I believe is going to be a little easier for Medvedev. I do not believe that he is going to face too many problems in this match. But he will certainly have a better opponent going forward in the competition.

Not following the WTA currently. So not going to say anything about that. Generally does not interest me too much, to be honest.

Stan Wawrinka - Holger Rune
Stan Wawrinka comes into this game while occupying the number 100 position in the ATP ranking, although he is in this position, in 2014 he managed to reach 3 position, but since 2017 he has not been able to achieve great achievements and this could be due to injuries that he has had, he comes from a victory against Miomir Kecmanovic. on the other hand, his opponent Holger Rune, who takes him to position number 8, comes to this game very motivated, in his last game he won. in my opinion, Holger Rune is a younger athlete compared to Stan Wawrinka, the Stan Wawrinka who has been injured, and is 37 years old, no longer has the same performance he had when he was younger and will be facing a 19-year-old opponent with much talent. for me the Holger Rune won the game

Rune has lots of advantages over Wawrinka. Rune is a lot younger and also a lot more higher-ranked player compared to his opponent. Rune has everything going for him in this match. After all, a 37-year-old cannot match the stamina of a 19-year-old. For me as well, Rune is going to be the winner of this match.

Andrey Rublev - Ugo Humbert
Andrey Rublev comes to this game occupying the number 7 position, but he has already reached a better position when in 2019 he managed to reach the number 5 position in the world, in his last game he beat Jiri Lehecka, on the other side his opponent Ugo Humbert who currently occupies the number 77 position and the best position he reached was in 2021 when he reached the number 25 position, last year he had a very bad performance, he also comes to this game with a victory. for this game i believe that Andrey Rublev will win this game, in my opinion he is more skillful than his opponent
.

It is live now, very enjoyable match,, Rublev should be the winner of this match. Unless of course he gets distracted by some spectators talking shit or waving the Ukrainian flag. Unless any of these happens, I believe he is going to win. Rublev has a lot more achievement in his career compared to Humbert as well

You are quite right about Rune, but I remember how in several matches he almost won but couldn't overcome his opponent so he lost, the last time was when he lost to De Minaur which was quite a shocking defeat in my opinion and Wawrinka still had the opportunity to put up a good fight, age might be a problem if it goes a long match, but Rune has to overcome the inconsistencies that often arise at crucial moments which ultimately favors his opponent.

Got unlucky yesterday with two bets: Noskova was defeated by Gauff and Teichmann surrendered to Peterson. It's ok, it's WTA after all and it can be unpredictable sometimes.  Grin

Today's matches in Indian Wells to watch: Rybakina v Badosa (my bet on Rybakina), Swiatek v Andreescu (Swiatek of course), Fernandez v Garcia (me betting on Garcia). All these great matches will start early US time, so good opportunity to watch if you're located in Europe.

I was watching that match with Peterson v Teichmann and was going to do a bet half way
through the second set when Peterson went ahead and the odds changed but decided
not to - luckily.

I rarely bet on the WTA, its just too unpredictable, but very entertaining.

Interesting match coming up next, Hurkacz v Paul, I think Paul Is good value at 2.1!

I don't think this is anything surprising for anyone. I believe everyone almost expected that Medvedev is going to be the winner. Of course in the second set, he did face some difficulties from Ivashka. It would have been a great comeback if he actually succeeded to win the match.

The next match for Medvedev is going to be a little harder because he is going up against Zverev. This is certainly a lot harder competition compared to his last match.

I believe those inconsistencies arise because he is still not that experienced. When he becomes more experienced, those inconsistencies will not be there. And I also believe that those inconsistencies are probably not going to happen in this match. Because he knows that his opponent is good enough to take advantage of those types of mistakes.

Zverev is improving his tennis literally match by match. I think he's getting close to his best form. But in my opinion, he doesn't stand a chance against Medvedev. Zverev also didn't look particularly confident against Ruusuvuori. So, my bet will be on Medvedev. Cool

It was not an easy match for Zverev against Ruusuvuori. He was not really in form either. He had a lot of unforced errors and his first serve was not so good this time either. Nevertheless, it will not be like a walk in the park for Medvedev. I think there will be long rallies and the match will go over 3 sets. But in the end Medvedev will probably win the match.

I didnt expect ivashka to win a set against medvedev especially after the great performance the Russian showed in the last tournament in Dubai and considering how heavily favourite medvedev was, it seems that we might see some surprises in indiana wells competition.

Nevertheless, it will not be like a walk in the park for Medvedev. I think there will be long rallies and the match will go over 3 sets. But in the end Medvedev will probably win the match.
Both the matches were interesting, as Zverev had a tough fight against Ruusuvuori. First set was a win for Zverev and Ruusuvuori made a comeback in the second set. Finally much fighting third set and Zverev won it 7-5 1-6 7-5

Upcoming match against Medvedev gonna be very competing as both will keep themselves strong to progress for the next round.

 Angry Angry

that damn Rune lost, as soon as the game started I was curious and for that reason I even dedicated a little of my time to watching the game and see that I don't like watching tennis because I fall asleep, so I start watching the game and to my chagrin I'm seeing the damn Rune losing, I spend 10 minutes watching the game and I fell asleep, when I woke up the game was already over and to my chagrin the damn Rune lost and with that my bets were also lost, what is regrettable about this is that the guy is much younger than his opponent, and he had good results in relation to his opponent, I speak in terms of career achievements

but in this game it seemed to me that his opponent had become younger and he was much older, something extremely ridiculous, his opponent who is much older than he was walking around his class, this was notorious in the few minutes of the game I watched it, well I even regret having put this game on my parlay

I believe those inconsistencies arise because he is still not that experienced. When he becomes more experienced, those inconsistencies will not be there. And I also believe that those inconsistencies are probably not going to happen in this match. Because he knows that his opponent is good enough to take advantage of those types of mistakes.
I didn't watch the match, but judging by the score it was a very tight match especially the second and third set, so Rune was already out and so was Murray who lost in straight sets to Draper.

well I even regret having put this game on my parlay
Sometimes we can choose the wrong match which can make our parlay perfect, on paper Rune will indeed win but everything could change.

Alcaraz was playing with Griekspoor, the first set was taken by Alcaraz through a tie break and it looks like he will also take the second set because he is already 2-0.

Wawrinka v Rune

That was almost a 2 set win for Wawrinka but in the end it was a very close match, and tense!

When Wawrinka was ahead in the second set Rune's odds were 10.0, I almost put a bet on him
then but hesitated.

This guy is really growing into his capabilities, to be able to bounce back from 6-2 in the first
set to taking the match into the 3rd and right down to the wire, impressive for such a young guy.

I really wonder whether Murray is doing himself any favor given that he has had a hip resurfacing already. He is going top turn 36 years old in May and although I understand that players have a hard time to end their professional careers and give up their beloved sport, there is still a life that comes after their professional career. With a hip that is probably going to be replaced fully very soon, giving it the absolute rest on the tennis court now doesn't seem to be the best decision. I would get it if he was playing for titles these days, but that is not going top happen anymore.

Medvedev - Zverev. A great match. That was Zverevs best game since his injury. It is nice to see how he is improving from game to game. In this match he showed his top performance again more often. But not yet from the beginning to the end. Nevertheless, a great development. In set 3 he showed a strong will again shortly before the end and also fought against defeat. But then he made too many mistakes and Medvedev won.

Yes but it won't be easy to win a tournament anytime soon since due to his injury he dropped quite a bit in the ATP ranking and is now more likely to meet hard opponents quite early on in the tournament. A win against Medvedev would have really helped him a lot also mentally. But as you said the performance was definitely acceptable and with a little bit of luck he is winning that game against him.

Now Sinner was very strong against Wawrinka. Not the slightest of a chance for Wawrinka to be honest. Alcaraz had a walkover after playing great tennis, so we are now getting closer to some great match ups.

I just realize how I get more and more used to not watching out for the names Djokovic, Federer and Nadal. Although Djokovic was denied participation, it will still be less and less often to see Nadal and Djokovic play as they choose a smaller number of tournaments anyway. Now it is all about the younger guys.

I agree, good match, arguably the best so far in this tournament. Zverev was hitting BIG making Medvedev look like an amateur sometimes. That backhand! Wow! Perhaps he didn't even need that much power to win, just to make less mistakes. Also serve was not that impressive (or Medvedev receiving somewhere in the stands made it look so).  Grin

Anyway, today we'll have some more great matches to watch:

WTA: Gauff v Sabalenka (Sabalenka will win probably, but Coco is also good on her home soil so I won't be betting on this one), Sakkari v Kvitova another great matchup, I guess I'm gonna bet on Petra. Flawless performance so far in Indian Wells! She's a WTA veteran so let's hope she has some energy left to play.

ATP: Medvedev v Davidovich Fokina Another great match, but I won't dare to bet. Medvedev has won 3 tournaments in a row and had a very exhausting match vs Zverev so I'm not sure if he's got enough energy to defeat the Spaniard.

I see Medvedev becoming the favorite in this tournament after being able to get past his toughest challenger Zverev, in the quarterfinals he will face a relatively easier opponent and don't mean to underestimate his opponent but Medvedev is currently in his best condition it will be quite difficult for Fokina to stop him, so I don't think that Medvedev will lose in the quarter final match later

Felix Auger-Aliassime managed to beat T. Paul in a long battle, this was not an easy match for him. He needed 6 times to still play after Paul get match point several times, after trailing 3-6 during the tie break in the third set he was able to take all the points to close the match and advanced to face Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.

Great match by both, I was able to grab a bet on Medvedev in the first set
when the odds went to 2.0 - very nice.

What I'm taking from the match is that Zverev is getting back into his top level of
performance and Medvedev is still in top form to be able to tough it out and take
the win in the 3rd set!

I'm going again with Medvedev v Fokina, he is an unpredictable player and
gets down when things are not going his way.
