I'm not going to give up on Nadal yet, we all know he's getting kind of old and injuries affect tennis players a lot since it's a one player game, but he's not the type of player to give up easily, he had his downs throughout his career and bounced back, I'm expecting him to win a couple of big tournaments before he retires, if his body doesn't bring him down, the mentality to win will always be there with El Matador.
me too - for me Nadal has always been a legend to me.
YOu are right he would not give up that easily - but that too is true -sometime the injuries are fatal and they kick off the players off their career.

Thankfully the injury this time wasn't too fatal, Nadal will soon recover and join in enlivening the next competition
But I'm wondering, Nadal has made many achievements in Tennis, he was injury prone in recent years, maybe the age reason, isn't Nadal planning to take a break from Tennis?
The age of this player from Spain has entered 37 years
knowing Nadal's mentality and how he plays in the court and how he never give up in every point, he won't let injuries and his age stop him from competing, I think Nadal will retire and rest is when his feet give up on him, he has that fighting spirit and it's something you can't teach, he still has time in my opinion to win some more.
Agreed, he's one such person who doesn't give up. The attitude is good, but when it comes to our physical fitness at some point we need to take rest and go on. To have a healthy life is really big task and not something simple. Beyond some age however we train ourselves the injuries that we got earlier will show the effects.

No one has doubt about 36 years old Nadal's fighting spirit and love for the tennis with now back to back injuries surely having good impact on mentality with his recent injury surely he disturbed which can hit his future as well but right now as things going most chances he will fight back and have one more try which will give better view about his future but best thing he needs to give time about this all then after consultation of his physio could be much better for his career and life after tennis because any decision can ruin his life as well which will be never ideal situation for him and his family. Healthy life is also very important as he has already done good job in this game and now have his name as one of the best players of this game.

I do agree, health comes first in any sports, but the thing with tennis is that it is not a contact sports, yeah you can get injured or something, but I don't think it will be life threatening. So it won't ruin his life as you have described it, we haven't heard anyone who retire from tennis because of injuries and then just destroyed his future.

Nadal can still push for one more Grand slam for this year, I reckon. And if he didn't win because his body fails him, then maybe he can contemplate on retiring. And then have a life beyond tennis, but it's far from being ruined or something.

But the point is, it's not all about sometime few injuries have issues for long time as well which can create problems for humans in long run so here we have to understand as it's never been threatening for life but still can create problems.

So, here Nadal having good time to work on his injury and then start his career again in short run this all is possible but as suddenly he lost his rhythm in Australian Open surely this is not a right way to deal with his injuries he also faced problems in past as well, but now these are having the biggest impact on his career and this is surely not ideal for his game and career with Novak Djokovic is still much better and his fitness which is the biggest advantage for him but Nadal needs to work on this all and having better fitness before next event is surely helpful for him and his fans as well.

And that's why he really need to be selective of the tournaments that he is going to enter move forward, to at least prevent early injuries or have his body take that needed rest and recover from his injuries.

Federer did it, went on sabbatical, if I remember maybe it is 2018-2019 for him.

So I'm seeing Nadal doing the same strategy this year.

Regardless of the fact that Nadal is truly an example of an athlete who does not give up and fights to the end regardless of numerous injuries, he is getting older every day and will not be able to keep up with the pace of top tennis for much longer.
If he didn't have a lot of injuries that caused him to have to interrupt his tennis career several times, Andy Murray would certainly have won a lot more GS and now we would be talking about the big four of world tennis and not the big three.
Nadal will certainly be the favorite at GS in Paris this year, if he recovers from his injury, but I'm not sure how long he will be able to continue playing at the top level, maybe another year or two.
The same goes for Djokovic.

The same goes for Djokovic.

I would by no means count Murray into the tennis player category of the big three. Murray played five Australian Open finals and lost them all. He played a total of eleven finals and won only three. His win rate is about 75%. Federer's win rate is about 82%. Nadal's is 83%. Djokovic's is about 83.5%.

The difference in the win rate is massive. Getting from 75% to above 80% is not as trivia as one might think at first glance. The win rate is fair indicator because it somewhat eliminates the injury factor.

Djokovic might be better off than Nadal as he weighs less and might have had less stress on his body and in particular on his joints. Nadal is difficult to tell from here. I am sure he is going to try everything he can in order to make it to Paris in a healthy condition. Who knows, maybe that is the last French Open we will see him play. Maybe this year another year when a GOAT says goodbye.

I think where Daniel91 is coming from regarding Murray is that he was the "Best of the rest",
the #4. If any of the top 3 were not factored Murray would be there in their stead, the top 3
won so much there was little else for anyone else.

There was really a two tier field, the top 3 and then everyone else. Murray led that
second tier for a while. thats how I see it.

Does anyone following the ATP tournament in Dallas? Tiafoe and Fritz are playing in this tournament. Both are playing in different groups so they can only meet in the final. That is certainly the plan of those responsible...both are seeded number as 1 and 2.  I do not see anyone else at this tournament who could reach the final instead.

Well both players dont have any competition. All other players are a lot weaker them both of them and with Shapovalov out of the tournament this make things for fritz a lot easier to get to the final. Would like to see a match between these two players but still a lot of rounds to go until that happens.

Tiafoe and Fritz Are obviously supposed to be the finalists. And I believe that they will find it easy to actually beat the other players in the competition. I actually agree with Joca97 that they honestly do not have any competition. And I also do not think that they will be any surprises regarding that as well. I know there are a lot of rounds to go until that happens, but I believe that it is going to go as planned for both of them, and they are going to find themselves facing off against each other in the final.

There are a few tournaments on ATM and the players are all spread over those, Montpellier
seems to be the popular one, Sinner and Rune attend that one and seem to be the top
players left in the draw. I'm following that one too.

tomorrow Sinner will face another Italian, Lorenzo Sonego.
It would be for sure an interesting match since both players are in good shape.
bookmakers are strongly supporting Sinner with @1.30 as odds. Yes probably he can win, but against Sonego I think it could be something not really smooth as silk Smiley Wink a match that could deserve some better odds for sure...

Sonego indeed could post a big test for Sinner but I think he should win. He has the
toughest match of the quarter finals today I think, Rune (seeded 1st) plays Barrere
which he should win comfortably. Coric plays Cressy which he should win also.

Interestingly all the top 3 seeds have made it to the quarter finals, Rune, Sinner
and Coric.

Mannarino actually won the match quite comfortably in the end. He is going to play against Wu in the next match. That is actually going to be interesting to see. Because Wu did well in the last match as well.

tomorrow Sinner will face another Italian, Lorenzo Sonego.
Interestingly all the top 3 seeds have made it to the quarter finals, Rune, Sinner
and Coric.
The match is already over. And I think it was one of the matches that I was looking forward to seeing among all the matches that there were to see today. But in the end, Sinner won this with quite ease.

All the top three seeds have definitely made it to the quarter-finals. Now it is going to start being interesting.

against Cressy.

Today in Dallas, Tiafoe was beaten by Wolf in 3 sets, I lost that bet, Tiafoe is another unpredictable
player, I will not be betting on him again and TBH I wouldnt normally bet on him. That means now
Fritz has one less "top" opponent in the draw.

That seems to be unpredictable, and now the match between Isner and Gomez is going in a very interesting manner. The first set went with tie breaker and Isner won it 710-68. Second set too reached close to the tie breaker, but things favoured Isner was able to win 7-5 in the second set.

Sinner played an amazing match and destroyed sonego in straight sets. Some wonderfull points but sinner played so well. Tiafoe can go far and might win the tournament in the end. Didnt expect him to struggle against wolf but he pulled it through

I agreed with you about Tiafoe is unpredictable player as he lost his match against fellow countryman Wolf J after winning first set by 6 - 4 he lost remaining two sets without any serious trouble and punters lost their good money as mostly were expecting this as free money, but he gives shocks to all of them with this win now Wolf J. is going to face Isner in semifinal of this Dallas open.

Now for me most chances Fritz is going to win this event without any big trouble because mostly other players are not having enough quality to face him, for me most chances we will have now final between Fritz vs Isner who is also good player and can do good game in semifinal.
