Sinner is playing Barcelona tomorrow as well as Tsitsipas who also plays tomorrow,
this should be another chance for a final appearance for Sinner and maybe take the
win from Alcaraz or Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas is not in good form and I don't think he has it what it takes to get to the final. On the other hand Sinner is in the form of his life but clay was never his strongest surface. This one should be for Alcaraz to defend the title.

What is strange for me is that Djoković decided to play a smaller tournament in Banja Luka and what is even more baffling, Monte Carlo winner Rublev joined him there.

is Djokovic prioritising the GS's and not putting too much into focussing on the minor tournaments
but using them for match fitness and if he wins its a bonus....just my 2 satoshi's.

On which tournament to play, when do the players notify or accept they will play?
I'm sure they all check out their potential opponents.

Tomorrow Tsitsipas plays Cachin and Sinner plays Schwartzman and today Alcaraz
beat Borges 6-3, 6-1. I agree as would many that its Alcaraz' tournament to win/lose

I think Djokvovic wants to find a sweet spot where he can play tournaments such that he can collect a lot of ATP points in order to stay 1st in the ranking, but also to not risk the rest of his career because of physical wear and tear. His focus will definitely be on the GS tournaments for that matter, but he is probably going to play most of the ATP 1000s as well. He is now playing a smaller tournament in Bosnia and if he wins it I think he can will stay at the top. Alcaraz won the Barcelona Open last year and would have to win again in order to not drop any ATP points.

That is part of my point, Djokovic with high confidance should come to Barcelona and make Alcaraz drop that points. There isn't many playera out there capable of winning against Alcaraz.

This move tells me that Djoković thinks he is not at his best now and decided to play smaller tournament to get some wins.

Strategy is also important in tennis. And players can use it very often. Not only in direct play, but also when it comes to who plays what tournament and when.

Iam curious to see how Djokovic will play against Van Assche tokay. The 2021 French Open junior winner has just entered the top 100 and will certainly play with youthful naivety. That can be an interesting match. Especially since he won against Wawrinka who was actually the better player for most oh the time in that match.

He had planned well and going for it. This kind of practice is really good for a tennis player than always fighting hard and getting injured. Playing against the young ones who are at the progressive path gives confidence as well as better understanding about how the young minds think.

Alcaraz to play Bautista Agut in the upcoming match to reach the quarter finals. If I'm not wrong the quarter finals will be very interesting same as what we experienced with the previous Miami Open.

That's true, but strategically if your goal is to stay the number 1 in the ATP list, Djokovic's decision was smart. The competitors at the tournament he is playing now is relatively weak and he can add some points to his current ATP score. Alcaraz can only keep his score stable as he also won it last year. Djokovic didn't play the ATP in Barcelona and can't lose any points because of it. I think the more interesting tournament regarding Djokovic's decision will be in Rome. Alcaraz retreated and got 0 points whereas Djokovic won it, meaning that he is either going to defend his 1000 points this year or Alcaraz has a chance to take his number 1 spot in the rankings. That is essentially a 2000 points game at maximum, if for some reason Djokovic doesn't play it and Alcaraz wins it, but I assume that Djokovic will go there also in preparation of Paris.

It really was not easy for Djokovic. Van Assche played really well. He won the first set and in set 3 he even made a break right at the beginning. But Djokovic continued to play with concentration and won with two breaks in the end.
Djokovic said, however, that the court was quite slow and that he had never experienced anything like it before.
Tomorrow he will play against Lajovic.

Yea, I never get players particularly top professionals complaining about playing conditions,
the conditions are the same for both opponents.

Interesting to see Van Assche take a set from Djokovic. So Djokovic goes into the quarter final
against Lajovic.

Rublev plays today against Varillas today, He should win that and hopefully he can carry his
form to get to the final at least. Hopefully he has learned a lot of lessons from his win at Monte Carlo?

ATP tournament in Munich, Germany.
Zverev has just lost his open match in this tournament. It was against O'Connell. Number 82 in the world rankings. Pretty disappointing performance from Zverev. His game was pretty mixed. Some good shots and then some mistakes. It was like that all the time.
Last year he lost also in the first round. His tendency is a bit downwards at the moment. I expected more from him at this stage.

Djokovic on clay looks terrible so far. Anyone can beat him currently from my point of view. Dosent matter what rank the player is he just plays bad. But with him we can never know because he can start dominating anytime and be unstoppoble but something needs to change if he wants to win the French open.

Djoković is lacking match fitness, I am more surprised with poor performances from Ruud. Really expected him to step up with the start of clay season and he is loosing matches against mediocre opponents.

Watched Alcaraz today, he looked really good in some parts of the match and then had problems in other. Still expect him to buckle up and win the tournament. IMHO only Sinner can stop him.

Really unexpected loss for Zverev, and the interesting fact it is his birthday and he had played in his home country. The win had happened on direct set. First one was really fighting and he wasn't able to make the second one in his favour. Djokovic have reached the quarter finals and to play against his home country player Lajovic which will be quite interesting if there is some twist and turn. Ruud losing to Cerúndolois one of the unexpected results. Others were of the expected results and the fight can be seen high as Sinner, Alcaraz, Tsitsipas were on the path way to the semifinals.

I am still of the opinion that Zverev's recovery takes unusually long. Someone has said that recovery takes as long as the injury and I found that statement quite comprehensible, but Zverev isn't playing well and as you pointed out, is there any other tournament that is better for a comeback breakthrough than one in your home country with the audience being fully behind you?

I don't know, but I think sometimes he is too distracted in general. When he is focused, he can play like a machine and beat anyone, but how often is he that focused and when he is, for how long? That's too much instability in his performances. Nobody would say these days that Zverev is a favorite at any tournament. Alcaraz in contrast, when is healthy, almost everyone would say that he is going to win it. I doubt that Zverev will ever reach that status. His time is ticking.

Back over in Barcelona its Quarter final time and the first match is a replay of the Monte Carlo
Quarter Final between Musetti and Sinner, Sinner is favourite there and will meet the winner
of de Minaur v Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas is big favourite but hasnt been playing well as others have mentioned, so either
way Sinner should beat de Minaur or Tsitsipas to set up a final with Alcaraz who has an easier
route to the final.

So yea I fancy de Minaur's chances against Tsitsipas @ 4.1

Sinner out! He resigns from the match against Musetti, it has been announced just few minutes ago (injury issues for Italian player).
So the semi-finals would be Musetti vs Tsitsipas or de Minaur ...
This last one will be for sure an interesting match to see Roll Eyes

Most likely with Tsitsipas as the first set he has already won it but not impossible for De Minaur to take over in the second set so it will be a 3 set match but I am pretty sure Tsitsipas is into the semifinals, lead 8-0 in H2H looks like it will be 9-0.

the other two quarterfinals look to be interesting to watch Alcaraz vs Fokina both players with better performances on clay and Cerendulo vs Evans, Cerundolo got rid of Ruud, and in Monte Carlo he also played quite well I think the other semifinal will be Alcaraz vs Cerundolo

Djokovic is out early in the tournament in Banja Luka. I don't know where it is though. But Dusan Lajovic was too strong for Djokovic this time. Reportedly, Djokovic has welt on his elbow, one of the most annoying complaints I think if you are a tennis pro. And the clay court season has really started, so he will have to recover quickly. On the other hand, it is of course the case with Djokovic that he needs little time to gain rhythm, if he had not played tennis for a year he would probably be able to compete with the best 20 in the world in a week. But I definitely don't see Djokovic himself as the favorite to win the French Open this season, and neither do Nadal. That is really Alcaraz.

Djokovic still in bad form and it dosent look good for him. Clay season was always bad for him but now this is the worst year so far. Losing in early rounds and i think he dosent stand a chance on the french open. Something needs to change fast if he wants to win it

Djokovic got defeated by Lajovic 4-6 66-78. Maybe the match could've come in favour, if he had won the second set. If I'm not wrong he used to play slow during the first set and picks up from the second set. This is something like his match pattern, and today it hadn't given hands as the match went to the tie breaker.

On the Barcelona Open it is Musetti vs Tsitsipas and Alcaraz vs Evans in the semifinals after the walkover of Sinner from the match against Musetti. It looks like the finals to be played between Alcaraz vs Tsitsipas.

Judging by this article, Djokovic had problems with his right elbow: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/65354645
On the other hand, Nadal also has health problems and it is not certain whether he will be able to perform at the French Open: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/65350489

Federer has been retired for some time, Nadal has not played for a long time due to injury, and it seems that Djokovic is not playing at the highest level due to injury either. Is the end of the "big three" of world tennis approaching?
According to the current situation, even if Nadal plays at the French Open, it seems to me that neither he nor Djokovic will be the favorites in the tournament, but Alcaraz.
In any case, a very exciting summer of tennis awaits us ahead of the 3 biggest GS tournaments.
Will we see a change of tennis generations?
