Maybe help to make up for this by doing something that lets everyone know that the a preorder trezor is a preorder trezor. That way they will be collectable some day.

Please don't mention that during RMA process ;-). Seriously, I'm happy that TREZOR survives accident like this, but I would not do that on daily basis :-D.

I have a simple idea. I will do this when I receive my trezor.
I will write down the backup words on 3 pieces of paper, to have a distributed solution reducing risk of theft:

If the backup "sentence" is 24 words, you could do it this way:
backup 1: words 1-16
backup 2: words 9-24
backup 3: words 1-8 and 17-24

Put these backups in 3 different locations and you will have created a "2 out of 3" system for your Trezor

I just completed another compatibility test on the Trezor that others may be interested in.

Previously I had tested the Trezor/Wallet32 compatibility on a 12 word list.

I wanted to use a 24 word list on my Trezor but before I did I wanted to make certain that if I lost my Trezor I could recover using Wallet32.

I set up my Trezor with 24 words, entered the same 24 words into Wallet32 and yes! got the same sequence of Bitcoin addresses on both wallets.

Final step, now that I am convinced I have a recovery path if I lose the Trezor:  wipe it one more time and create my final 24 word list using the Trezor and then I can start using it to store my gargantuan BTC holdings.

I've ordered one in april and it came only a few days later. I'm very happy with it, enough security for me for small BTC amounts, but I wouldn't store my pension fund on this!

Supports android and iOS and it's cheap!

If I understand well, it is just piece of plastic with printed public and private keys as QR codes. So technically its not hardware wallet, but paper wallet. Actually it is probably breaking all known best practices for managing paper wallets:

* You're not sole owner of private keys. Quoted from their website:

We store fragments of your Verso Gold in multiple Swiss bank vaults so that you can recover a digital copy of your Verso Gold in case of loss.

Also it isn't clear how this recovery process works, because they claim "We do not keep any information relating your identity". Do you have any more information how the recovery works?

* Private keys are send by post.

* BIP38 may be good for redeemable coins like Casascius, but its very bad practice to use those keys for common wallet, because of privacy issues (re-using public key). Also considering that private keys is actually known by other parties (because of "swiss bank vault" and post office), the security is not much better than using brainwallets. Search reddit, it is full of fail stories of using brain wallets. Personally I don't understand why people are so excited by BIP38.

Actually 10 USD for piece of plastic is quite overpriced (considering $7 as worldwide shipping). You'll get much better results by using free Wallet32 Android app. But okay, hand-written recovery seed does not look as cool as plastic card .

Did you also tried passphrase protected seeds? AFAIK latest Wallet32 has support for it as well!

I use a verso card (silver), the private key is encrypted, so post office don't have the key
When you use the app, the key is flashed from the card and stored temporarly on device's ram, you decrypt it to pay, and when you close the app, the key is gone.

It's not bad, I use it to keep small amounts on an iPhone.

Here you have the main difference: trezor doesn't give out keys, not even "temporarily".

I would imagine satoshilabs goal (or one of the goals) is to make bitcoin more easily to use in a secure way by "mainstream" people and old-timers alike. Another one is making money.

Why stop short of those two when "all there  is to do" is scale production, organize distribution channels and support. I'm probably forgetting some things here, but putting in all this hard work to develop an awesome product with a healthy potential market and then leaving it be at producing a couple of "rare items" doesn't make sense at all.

Add to that, if slush and stick don't do it, someone else will.  Hardware wallets are just too critical a component to not get them into the public's hands.  Not only is some sort of trusted signing hardware needed for bitcoin, it can help secure all kinds of other things.  Password managers look totally silly and insecure compared to Trezor or similar devices.

any plans to adapt them to this utility as well? i suppose the imputes would be more on software developers to adapt their software to work with trezors, but none the less there could be some collaboration.
