I can confirm it is just their cgminer fork renamed.
Where did you get this info? Can you point me to the source repo? Thanks. somewhere on kano thread it is mentioned it is also mentioned somewhere in the thread. Basically bitmaintech is in violation of software laws and has been doing that for years since no one in-forces the laws very well. China and India have been known to do this often along with Korea. But copyright issues abound in our world bit-torents and tons of wrong streaming are so common what can you do to stop it. Not much How many of us can say every song movie and piece of software on their pc is 100% purchased and paid for. I sure some one will reply they are 100% perfect. Good for you if you are. I have 4 s-9's so I am not but I mine them on kano.is which is the best I can do.

I have issues with using closed source mining software, especially when it has been copied/cloned from free, open source software. i like to know there are no security risks or hash theft going on. Either way, weather the mining software was copied or not, there should be a source repo available so that it can be inspected for such problems by those that are forced into using it.
Hopefully some tech-savvy dev will be able to create an image with the proper, secure & trusted cgminer software incorporated into it - I might buy one then.
If the price goes down dramatially enough......

You should be throwing this up on you network which I assume is behind a router/firewall. So you should be good on security as you have that between the S9 and the internet. So as long as you have that good router/firewall there should be no issues even if there was a vulnerability(which I don't think one has been pointed out and were talking in theoreticals). So you should be secure with your S9. I don't see many throwing up open to internet. So for most if there is a security risk on your network the issue is bigger then your S9. Just my feelings on it.

Ok, so since it's quite hot where I live... My hottest S9 pcb temp is around 73-75c... How would you feel about it? I'm thinking that maybe I am pushing it quite hard atm...

I would lower freq by 25 650 to 625 600 to 575 I run my 2 650 batch 1's at 600 I run my 2 600 batch 2's at 600 and I am doing 60c more or less on all 12 boards. yeah I am leaving some hash on the table but I do not want to burn up my gear.

hi eretron, i think your PCB temp 73-75c is okie. Im stay in Malaysia, it's pretty hot here, before my S7 OC 725freq with temp 74 highest at noon, night and morning is around 70c. I have S9 unit too, with standard 600freq, temp at noon is at 72 - 74c. I have running S7 about 6 months++ without a problem with temp below 78c.

The buy button for the S9 is grayed out on https://bitmaintech.com/. When will it be available again?

What's the life expectancy on the S9? The previous models only ran about 1 year so I'm hoping these can go longer.

what are you talking about? I know of s-1's that still work along with s-3's and s-5's They just are not very efficient and don't earn much money even with cheap power.

Yea this is pretty far off, not sure where he got the 1 year number. But a LOT of previous gen miners still work for people, if you treat them good they will last a long time (in most cases). For me personally I have had many different models, they they have have had long lives. With "normal" electricity price for lack of a better term I have to upgrade at points due to efficiency to keep mining. My old gear then goes to a new owner with cheaper or possibly "free" electricity. But a LOT of gear runs much longer then your 1 year data. Just look on the boards there are still decent amount of S3 questions considering how long they have been out.

That would fill the spot up pretty much exactly. Need to decide what to do.

New price pegged to BTC.
it is okay if you want to buy coins from coinbase. to realize exactly what your fiat cost is. for me in NJ, USA it is 3.125 btc for miner and DHL it is 3.150 btc for miner and UPS it is 3.116 btc for miner and FedEx I may use DHL since UPS cut me for 89 usd for 1 pair of miners.

The new batch is tempting after seeing the numbers you guys have been throwing up, but with only 12 days to halving.... I just can't do it... I gotta see what halving does before I dare take the leap.
