It’s my belief that ease of use is the key to adoption of cryptocurrencies by regular users, and we continue to improve it in Byteball.  We already have quite a few services that work in easy to use and lightweight chat interface but, up until now, the chat window itself was not always easy to reach.  Now, chat got its own tab.

Byteball is the only crypto platform so far that has payment and communications functions intertwined, the two functions act together to strengthen each other and create more value than each function taken alone.

Upgrade to the new release 1.1.0 https://github.com/byteball/byteball/releases.
Major changes:
* Chat is now reachable through its own tab
* Added ability to select units for blackbytes, such as GBB for gigablackbytes
* When a new version is released, you'll be automatically notified
* When the hub changes its witness list, it will automatically suggest making similar change
* Better alignment, more polished UI (let me know if you notice any imperfections)
* A number of small bugs fixed

Wonderful features, great dev and nice coin. Hope more services will be developed and to see bytes be used in more areas.

great thing. implementations going on.

thanks for 1.1.0 and a feature request:

I like to keep my cryptocoin data directories on an encrypted drive, so it would be nice if byteball was flexible in where it puts it's data directory.
A start paramater like bitcoin's -datadir=... would be just fine for a start.

Yeah thats nice but I guess you could always crate a symlink from ~/.config/byteball to where you want it to be, until the "feature-request" is fulfilled.

I would recommend this too.
If someone still wants to implement -datadir option, we accept pull requests in our github repo https://github.com/byteball/byteball.

Why limit distribution to bitcoin hodlers?

Admit it, many of us have altcoin portfolios  Wink...Why not distribute to holders of top 100 coins?

87% dominate Bitcoin against Altcoins! I think, you would hit 100 times the same investors. Big whales in ETH are the same like big whales in XEM or Monero.

So...PLEASE NOOOOOOOO....

Greetz
Exactly.

But to move out of cryptocoins means touching the ugly visa/mastercard if you allow people to "pre-buy" bytes.

Facebook app and/or recaptcha like "work for bytes" incentive could be something to reach audiences outside of cryptocoin forums.

Idea to "work for bytes" is interesting. Anything should ideally be got by proving some work, but not just for free Smiley
Moving out of crypto community sounds very good, but would be hard for now. Even in crypto there are so many noobs with all kinds of weird questions.

A have another idea! If we are not afraid of noobs, bytes could be traded for Pokemons, or for proof of Pokemon ownership  Grin Grin

linking with btc is like the "work for bytes" for "work for bytes". linking for dollar would be nicer $$$ at the end of the day i prefer BTC lol

Any time for getting ByteBalls on bittrex, besides c-cex initiative?

On c-cex are 100 coins listed not worth to be together with BB. Its not an Altcoin. Its a protocol standard as ripple, in my eyes.

It is a good idea to connect byteballs receivers with a PoW mechanism. And Btc has a pretty advanced Hashrate

If Byteballs are kept in the same wallet to which they were originally distributed and the BTC is sent to the same BTC address which was used for the 1st distribution is any further action required or will the 2nd distribution be performed as per the parameters of the 1st distribution?

Any further messaging with the Wallet bot required to participate in the 2nd distro?

If you didn't move your bytes and bitcoins from linked addresses you don't need to do nothing. You can still chat with transition bot to make sure your a dresses are correct.

Important to backup before updating?

What do you need to backup your wallet to move to a new computer, which folders etc?

What about if you did move them but you make sure they are back in there before the 2nd distro snapshot is taken?

Important to backup before updating?

Well I've never done it before updating, and everything went fine, but yes it would be important Smiley.

What do you need to backup your wallet to move to a new computer, which folders etc?

https://github.com/byteball/byteball#byteball-backups-and-recovery. I've never done that either ...

What about if you did move them but you make sure they are back in there before the 2nd distro snapshot is taken?

If you move them to the exact linked addresses, then yes. The easiest way to know your linked addresses is to query the bot (type anything) and it will tell you what your linked addresses are, you then just move your BTC and your bytes to those addresses before the snapshot is taken. Of course you can link others if it's easier for you Smiley. You can also check your linked addresses on the transition page: transition.byteball.org.

is the altcoin giveaway coming?

Mid-February. Just watch the thread and check the opening post for the exact date, which is yet to be announced.

You will receive the bytes but not the blackbytes (that go with them). If you want the blackbytes, your bytes should be on linked addresses (that you can link now and until the next distribution by the way).

is this not mean, that near to the end of distribution, few person will be hold around of 30% of all coins?
in this case i would feel safer (as a long term investor) if so many coins go to you, than to few pump/dump morons

The transition rate decreased from 0.7 gigabyte/BTC to 0.0625 gigabyte/BTC. So, if the rate stays the same in the next phases, it is more likely that they will receive something around 3% of it at the end of the distribution, not 30%. (Not counting new stakes from byte holdings)

We'll have our 2nd distribution round under the Full Moon, on 11th of February at 0:33 UTC.
We will probably follow the Full Moon calendar for future rounds too.

Bitcoin snapshot will be taken in the first block after the date.
Snapshot of Byteball database will be taken on exactly this date and will include only final transactions.

The transition bot is already working (find the link at https://byteball.org), chat with it to link your Bitcoin address and check the currently linked addresses and their balances.  If you participated in the 1st round, your linked addresses stay the same, you don't need to link again.

The distribution rules:

BTC to bytes: 1 BTC of proven balance gives you 62.5 MB (0.0625 GB)
BTC to blackbytes: 1 BTC of proven balance gives you 2.1111 * 62.5 million blackbytes (money supply of blackbytes is 2.1111 times more than that of bytes)
Bytes to bytes: 1 byte on any Byteball address gives you 0.1 new bytes
Bytes to blackbytes: 1 byte on linked Byteball address gives you 0.21111 blackbytes

If you already hold bytes, please move them to one of the linked BB addresses (chat with the bot to learn what your linked addresses are) before the distribution date to receive your share of blackbytes.  This is a technicall necessity that follows from how blackbytes work: we need to send the private payloads to your device and we know only the device address of the linked BB address, not of any other BB address.  If you don't care about blackbbytes for some reason, you don't need to do anything.  If you didn't touch your bytes after the 1st round (i.e. didn't send or receive a single transaction), you also don't need to do anything since all your bytes are still on the linked address.

Blackbytes that remain undistributed because some people didn't move their bytes to the linked address, will be transferred to a development fund which will be used to pay for future promotion and development.

In this round and at the current market prices, bytes give you a much larger share in the distribution than Bitcoins.  For example, holding 1 GB gives you the same as holding 1.6 BTC:
1 GB -> 0.1 GB
1.6 BTC -> 1.6 * 0.0625 = 0.1 GB
This is one of the nice things about being an early adopter.

Chat with the bot to check the current status or link new Bitcoin addresses and don't forget to move your Bitcoins and Bytes to the linked addresses before the February Full Moon.

More than 30x difference.  BB GB price has a lot of upside.  People selling at 0.04 - 0.05 will be kicking themselves over the coming weeks.
