I know it's against tradition, but I've got another question that actually has something to do with a KNC miner!  Bertmod says that I'm only using 660 watts at the current levels. I haven't bothered to plug into my kill a watt yet, but why did I have to buy these 1300w power supplies again? Is there a whole lot more hash power available in these boxes?

My boards run ice cold. I've got a proper environment for them. I actually had to block off all cooling to bring the board temps up into the 50c-70c range. Right now my asics are at 27, 35, 38, 22c.  Bitcoinorama specifically said we would need 1200w power supplies, that is a lot of potential capacity.

And while we wait 6 months for the 20nm to land, the KnC mining farm is steadily increasing in hash power with 100% of the freshly made 28nm chips!

Remember - they loosley promised not to SELL any more batches until Neptune! Didn't say anything about mining themselves!

Fair play to the guys - they deserve the riches they most certainly are now amassing. They did a fantastic job with the 28nm

I seem to recall another promise that they wouldn't mine themselves with more than 5% of the hashpower they sold.

Do you suppose they're counting all the hashpower they've, uh, pre-sold with all these Neptune orders in that amount?

I do think it's odd that they ended the 28nm product line when it felt like they were just getting started.  I expected they would at least offer the bare chips for sale.

Do what you like, however the higher wattage supplies are more efficient.

I have an APC BR1500G UPS then my Seasonic V1000 Power Supply on an older Jupiter -- it is about 7% more efficient and lower noise. So now I draw about 666 Watts as opposed to 712 previously. The Gold Plus rating means better regulation and typically lower noise.

So if you want a decent supply to handle a 660 GHash Jupiter -- then have a computer dealer read the 12 Volt specs very carefully and sell you a 1220 Watt or better supply.

Now expect 20 people to disagree and a long discourse -- but that is the scoop.

PS: Don't like your hash rate or HW errors? Just use the Shell to re-boot.

I did notice that the hw errors change significantly with some restarts. Anyone have an idea why? Seems like sometimes you get a good bootup and hw errors are only a few percent. Sometimes it starts up and hours later it is still 12%. Doesn't really make sense.

so KNC has 70 percent of the current miner hash rate now or some such on the bitcoin network (on forums someplace) I think they said they would mine no more then 5% of the hashrate they produced? If my memory is correct ..that is a lot of bitcoin

Not gonna have a long discussion on probability and variance and stuff here -- just starts more bickering.  Do expect the CGMiner display to be far more consistent than pool ratings -- but if you averaged out the pool reports it would give a consistent relationship to what CGMiner reports -- plus or minus some factor.

The people who give good answers like Phoenix 1969 invariably get shouted down. If you keep notes about your findings and compare them to answers given here you will figure it all out.

That's a real defeatest attitude lol. Just ignore the trolls. Once the companies they made purchases from start shipping, they will be off wondering how they can ever make back what they spent instead of sitting in the ONE knc thread talking about how awful knc is.

Right now I'm running steady at 660 ghs / 7% hw. If I can't find a surefire way to make that better, I'll just leave it be until the tuning software comes out. I'd like to hear from other november owners to see what kind of numbers they are getting. Hopefully it won't be lost in the mess. If the other boxes get here and produce the same results I'll be very happy.

5% of 70% is 3.5% of the total network hash (Assuming their 70% is correct). BTC3600 per day up for grabs.

so 3.5% of 3600 is BTC126 per day

Buy a bigger supply.

On some boot-ups I would expect that supply to simply quit due to thermal overload or even fry.

Get a 1200 Watt Gold Plus (If you can) supply.

Take the Spec for your V1000 and make sure you pay attention to the 12 Volt description.


Pull the line plug -- wait 10 minutes or so -- but expect it to shut off again very shortly.

It's probably too young to smart smoking -- but you never know!

I posted immediately after you, and have been using much larger forums for many years. Most people don't have that much issue with it. The only problem with this thread is the constant bickering.

Is that on a november jupiter? Running factory cgminer? What are your asic temps?
