it's probably a good idea to have a decent stock of basic non-perishable food and basics like toilet rolls, first aid etc. - just so you don't have to actually go out to hunt down basics.

This. You don't need to have *that* much to ride out a short term screwup, I just went out and picked up a few hundred worth of extra groceries. Mostly the extra was canned goods, pasta, staples, rice, potatoes, and the like.

Clean water would be my chief concern. Here's a good checklist in case you expect to be without power and/or clean water for a few weeks. It's a hurricane preparedness site but this is the stuff you'd need to think about...

Water is a serious bitch, the stuff is heavy and takes up a *lot* of space. That said, 5 gallon jugs are not too expensive and every house has both a nice 40-50 gallon water tank, a couple of gallons in the pipes in the event things are really weird. I've tried rain barrels, but they fall apart after a few years and collect mosquitoes and odd things. Maybe a cistern.

If it rains where you live park your truck so water collects in the bed. Instant water for toilet flushing.

(Edit: That aquapod thing is a pretty good idea. I'll keep that in mind)

Regarding the CoronaVirus outbreak in Italy.
Why Italy?
I have a guess.
According to a Bloomberg survey, Italy has the fourth most efficient Heath service in the world.
This Service is basically free, or prepaid via taxes if you want.
Cost control has been tightened, but still the vast burden of it is on the central state (trough local governments) who can then spend how much they want.
I think in Italy a little bit less than 9,000 people have been tested for corona virus.
Other countries haven’t disclosed this information but apparently we are in the ballpark of 7,000 for UK and less than 500 (five hundreds) for France.
So this explains why Italy had so many cases. Other countries have the same percentages with CoronaVirus, yet they don’t know, yet.

Maybe, but maybe it is just because the textile industry in the north or Italy relies heavily on illegal Chinese workers. Rumours are one of these brought a gift from his/her trip home for CNY back to Italy.

Never heard of this theory.
The lockdown villages are quite far from those zones (northern Tuscany in particular), where a lot of Chinese workforce is utilised in the fashion (rather than textile) industry.
If that where true the virus would have spread from airports and or those zones.
So I am afraid I can dismiss that.
