Latency doesn't seem to be that important. I'm on the east coast, and I do significantly better than average with about 110 ping to my LA node. M

M Thanks for that, I live in Western Australia and have a node here, I have a few Ants at my mates house in Houston Texas but the latency might be an issue to log them in here so just looking for a couple of good node over your part of the world to hook them into. I'm having an issue hooking them up to p2pool nodes at the minute, they will hook up to Eclipse pool but for some reason won't connect to any nodes. What is your node address in LA would like to try both yours, when it is back up (mdude77) and windpath. thanks

The address for mine is in my sig: 96.44.166.190:9332. I'm promoting mine because I'm merge mining every coin I know of - NMC, I0C, IXC, HUC, GRP, DVC, and FSC. (That's why I rebuilt it, I got more memory and switched to a 64-bit OS so I stop running out of memory and can merge everything under the sun!) All merged mining proceeds get converted to BTC and fed back into p2pool for all miners to share. M

Where abouts is your node? I have a few Ants in Houston Texas I need to hook up Current node is in Northern Virginia, give it a ping ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=18313.msg6634671#msg6634671), routing on the internet and speed across great distances can often surprise you. I'd love to hear your ping results from TX...

Thanks I will get my mate to ping and let you know, I pinged it from Perth Western Australia and I got between 350ms-400ms so too far away for me. My mate pinged my node and he was getting around the same 400ms so looking for something closer to him. Thanks

Doesn't matter really. I'd go for whichever has the SSD. M

Ubuntu will probably have less overhead. If you're planning on merge mining, you'll have a hard time using it with only 2gb. M

I use Xubuntu 12.04 64bit - it uses even less resources than Ubuntu, perfect for merge mining - especially with the OS installed on an SSD

I also have two other p2pool nodes on the same RIG mining UNO & MYR all off the same OS - it just purrs.......You can check the stats out in my sig

My node is back up. Everything is merge mining except HUC, as it's still downloading the block chain. http://96.44.166.190:9332M

For you guys merge mining more than the usual combo of BTC, IXC, DEV, & NMC, where are you (going to) exchange your coins? I don't see HUC, GRP, FSC or I0C on Cryptsy or BTC-e. My long-term/mid-term goal is to exchange to BTC when rates are good for long-term "hodling". I don't want to waste any cycles/memory/time on crap coins that have no exchange value to BTC or LTC.

Most times the web site for each coin tells you where it is traded. For example the HUC site lists:
