B3 avalons (7 in total) just arrived for my group buy. Hopefully this means the chips will follow soon!

I sent an email about this but hadn't seen a response yet

Anyone (else) have batch #1 chips but missed the deadline for assembly order?

I have chips in a later batch and was hoping to get the chips from #1  'held' and then assembled with the later batch

From what Ive seen from other posts and Steamboat, If you have no't purchased the board assembly, i would do so immediately. Even if your waiting for Batch 4 chips, you are locking up the boards from now.

Unfortunately it seems there is a shortage on certain parts and steamboat alluded to a few page(s) ago that as long as you pay for your boards NOW (before he runs out) then it does not matter when you get the actual assembly done.

I hope that makes some sense!

I think the list of hard to find parts has grown pretty long at this point. Even the simple stuff is getting scarce from what I understand.

For sure the PIC chips, IR3895 buck regulators, and dual NOR gates are long gone :/

The Klondike 16 thread has a lot of discussion about scarce parts and possible replacements...

I am in this same boat.  I can't speak for what Steamboat will tell you, but he's going to hold some of my first batch chips until my later chips arrive, then assemble the rest of my units.  Email him and ask, can't hurt.

As far as assembly goes: what everyone else said.  Buy as soon as you know you want it done here.

Surely there is a little btc making opportunity for you both here to gain a little swapping with someone who is in batch 4 and would prefer to be in batch 1? (unless we're talking <16 chips?).

I have chips in Batch #1 and Batch #3.. the question is what makes sense for Steamboat to do, for people in batch #1 who missed the Batch #1 initial assembly.. if they can hold the chips and get them assembled with batch #3 or add them in whenever it makes most sense from the production side to do it..

And what would the point of buying chips in batch #1 be?  The deadline for assembly has already passed, or do you mean that you'd want the chips shipped to you?  I was under the impression there aren't any other assemblers taking chips directly from steamboat, nor from invididuals, just other group buys.

Well for PICs i have quantity ~200 right here (PIC16LF1459-I/SS, albeit tube package), not a whole lot but it's something.  (Steamboat shoot me a PM if indeed this could help you out)

I'll have to double check the BOM.. NOR gates that hard to source or find a replacement? (Shit)

IR3895 is indeed probably hard to find, wish i had ordered some of those.

I'm talking <16 chips lol.

When I first saw the group buy #1 here it was closing soon so I ordered 40 chips, just pulled the number outta my head lol.

I was one of the first to order assembly, but my chips aren't until batch 4. I'd totally be up for trading my spot for a batch 1 spot! Smiley I ordered enough chips for two K16s and a few spares...

Anyone else out there holding batch 1 chips for later assembly?   Cool

Case work update:
- Power distribution and control PCB expected to be completed by early next week. Will support both Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone Black.
- Mechanical design is essentially complete, just need to complete part drawings and fire off to Steamboat

Still no price estimate, as this will depend on the quantity of parts ordered.

Changes since last design:
- 15 K16s per enclosure necessitated by a space added for an ATX PSU
- Ethernet connector added which will allow direct connection to the Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone Black for standalone operation
- Power distribution and control PCB will have both Molex and terminal strip connections for power

Case design could easily be adapted to support other PCBs (i.e. Bitburners)

It's been a few days, and I was just curious if there were any more updates on the cases?  With avalon starting to ship chips, I am very anxious to lock down how I am going to house and power my (16) boards.  Timing and pricing are both important to me, but if I had to pick one, timing would be of the greatest concern right now.

Thanks in advance!

I would suggest that you make other arrangements as the case design project is parked.

I'm just going to try to convert an old rack mounted server case... and mount them in there.   -Whenever Yifu feels the need to execute the chip shipments...
