The article says they purchased sufficient chips "elsewhere" to fulfill their batch-1 orders, and when they actually receive their first shipped batch, it will go towards their batch-2 orders.
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Steamboat - being one of those who have paid for chips and assembly, are you willing to entertain refunds for the assembly portion of your services?  i.e. - leaving those who seek such refund "out in the cold" when/if chips arrive.  Perhaps members of other group buys could take advantage of such an opening for their own parts/assembly, such that you do not sustain any damages, and those of us in later batches minimize our exposure (and take our chances when chips arrive).

This actually sounds like a reasonable solution. Thanks.

Does anybody knows how to make a refund from Liquid Synergy? (chips and/or assembly)

Chip refunds will likely never happen...assembly is still an open question.

There is no more room for good news, for nobody, i repeat NOBODY involved in this entire group-buy (whatever the batch) will ever ROI. It's a lost cause, entirely.

The only ones cashing some serious profit here are Yifu and steamboat (and all other groupbuy organizers)

Explain to me again how the group-buy organizers are cashing in "for serious profits" exactly?

Damn,
friedcat(his resellers) is selling blade 12ghs per 5btc each. With prompt delivery. Its almost the same price per ghs as we have paid. And we are still waiting for the chips for who knows how long.

Steamboat, please address the questions regarding assambly refunds what are preordered on end of June! You got funds allready what can be only spend on pcb, elemnts and heatsink. Other part of funds for assambly and shipping is not spend.
We need to see our options and your silence is bad!
At least give us a chance to sell our chips+assambly orders!

Simple. They added 10% to the price of the real chips. steamboat has 6 batches, each 700BTC each. +10%, steamboat got a fee of 70BTC per batch. That's a total of 420 BTC or ~50000 USD.

I'd call that a serious profit for a light amount of work.

OK, and developing pcboards, firmware, buying parts, and purchasing the stock BOM parts - to be on hand to build several thousand boards - cost Steamboat how much exactly?

Is Boxman only referring to the chips themselves?... which I assume is a light amount of work of re-shipping them to the buyers?... the assembly part of it is where the rest comes into play  I gotta go look at the calculations though... not sure if he actually made 70btc per batch on just the chip purchases?

EDIT: I guess he did make 70-80 btc per batch on just chip purchases.  I assume the 'assembly' costs that were ontop of the chip purchases were used to pay for the parts/firmware/boards/etc ?

Anyone that has sourced parts, knows that you get wrong parts sometimes, or you find a flaw in the design and have to order a whole new set of parts to replace the ones that will not work. The assumption that he is swimming in btc and cash after this group buy is pretty silly in my opinion. Then include the time spent, yeah hes working for peanuts at this point unless avalon gets the chips to him.

Come on redacted, we have preordered (paid) all this on end of June! Have you forgot it? Its last thing that I want to offend anyone here, but fact are facts. Assambly service (soldiering to the pcb) is not paid because its not processed and shipping cost are not paid to USPS, that part of money can be refunded if requested. And further, at least allow us to transfer the ownership if we want to.

I do not have a lot of money here on stake but want to hear my options. Pcb+parts ($35) that can be shipped or bought back at some percentage, but assambly (60$) and intl shipping should be refundable. I did not ordered heatsink. As EU buyer I think I am in even worst position then US buyers as I have to pay 25% VAT on top of it.

Stemaboat need to talk to us - that is for sure. Say something, no, yes, we will see, i'am alive...
Please again, Iam not saying that SB is doing something wrong, just would like to hear from him and to find a solution.

edit
IIRC steamboat allowed to change shipping address only once by writing on GB email. On LSD site there is an edit/change funcion for shipping address.
Steamboat please confirm above.
Thank you

It seems like he made around 70-80BTC on just the chip batches... so he was 'swimming' in 480BTC (6 batches).  The assembly costs that were brought into the picture later were to pay for the parts and other stuff relating to assembly, not sure if he marked that up or what it actually costs to assemble one of these boards/labor/etc... but to think he isn't making BTC off of this seems a little off.

EDIT: and he *should* make BTC off of this, but he should also be providing a higher level of service & updates during this time of distress. It is what it is.

Of course Steamboat owns a portion of chips from all of the batches and about half of the chips from batch 1-3, IIRC. This means that anything you are losing in lost mining revenue due to Avalon's bullshit, he is losing just as much. The assembly of batch 1 will be produced at a loss. I don't know how much was invested in parts and production, but I don't doubt that it could easily be more than $50k.

Order ownership changing/splitting would be appealing, but would take a lot of work and generally be a pretty substantial headache for SB to manage. Maybe a transfership "window of time" could be opened prior to chip arrival.

Yes, the chips themselves is a light amount of work. On that work, he took 420 BTC. The assembly service is completely standalone from the chips - i for one have nothing to do with that. Those who wanted assembly/hosting, are paying a proper price for that as well, on which steamboat has calculated an fee (there's no charity in business).

So yes, steamboat is the only one profiting from the chips in this group buy.

Order ownership changing/splitting would be appealing, but would take a lot of work and generally be a pretty substantial headache for SB to manage. Maybe a transfership "window of time" could be opened prior to chip arrival.

A few weeks of work to provide such service for 50K USD. Wow, what a headache.

Anyway, I'm not judging anything here. I'm just stating the facts, which are:

Nobody in this group buy (and any other except for Zefir batch 1) will profit from the deal, except from steamboat, Yifu, and the other group buy organizers. All buyers will lose net BTC on this deal

These are just the facts.

From OP:

Quote
Pricing

Chips:
Avalon ASIC chips may be ordered for BTC0.086. This fee is due immediately upon order placement.
Assembly:
The total price for assembly is $95. This includes $35 for the PCB and board related components, and $60 for assembly, to be paid in BTC.

Assembly and DIY Kit:
The DIY kit and fully assembled PCB are $123.5, to be paid in BTC.
Fully Assembled Unit:
The fully assembled unit, including all necessary hardware, is $133.5, to be paid in BTC.
Hosting:
Hosting fees include 8% of miner revenue production, plus $.06kw/h for electricity used. A setup fee of $15 per unit is necessary to help defray the initial infrastructure costs.
Testing:
Free with the purchase of a fully assembled unit.

10,000 chips from Avalon = 780BTC     (this is what is showing on Avalon's store right now... I am assuming it wasn't different when he ordered)
so for each batch, he took in .086/chip = 860BTC     Profit of 80 BTC per batch   (I can't seem to find what or how many he purchased for himself from each batch)

Full Assembly: (see bolded above)  Appears to be $60 for the 'assembly' (assuming this is labor costs)  and  $35 to cover PCB and 'board related components'

The great plateau is coming in difficulty. Things are going to start looking better. But, agreed. Profit here in dead, hopefully 60 bitcents on each bitcoin.

Yeah, something is happening alright - we are all getting screwed! BitSuckCom claimed they are shipping 4-5 batches a day - it's more like 4-5 batches PER MONTH!

Hey Steamboat - How about an update already?!?!?!??! Are you still breathing?

Maybe someone better go check on him - he must be sick or something... I KNOW I am!
