There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Yifu has responded to zefir that he would prefer to refund the BTC for the chips rather than any other option.

As things stand now,  I would take the refund option on my batch 6 chips.  The assembly that I paid for is another issue.  What about that payment?  Partial refund?

I am disappointed in the way this is turning out.    Sad

Well the problem with a refund is that steam boat is going to be out of pocket for a lot of circuit board parts. I don't know how many parts he purchased in advance but it's going to be a fair bit so who's going to foot the bill on that?

Thank you Steamboat for update.

I think the best scenario would be reprogram the chip price to x percentage lower and refund a difference. Of course, exact delivery time should be announced. This way buyers could achive ROI and operation continue.

But, I am concerned as yifu sound like he has no idea when chips will be under way. He did not want that option in pm communication with zefir. Who knows did he even made an 1M asic order at fundry and packaging company? How he will refund those and what he will do with 1M of chips? I doubt that he has made an order at the fundry...

I'am in the batch 2 so I am stil willing to wait......

I'm batch 1 & 2, I'd like to hold out as long as possible, I already spent 1400+ on assembly which would be lost, chances are I'll mine most of it back.

But didn't we pay something like $35 for parts and $60 for assembly?  Since assembly is not occurring then shouldn't that part be refunded - parts I can understand..

Those who just purchased chips, have nothing to do with steamboats standalone assembly service.

I'd like a full refund on my 219 batch 4 chips. Thanks.

Yes I understand that.  But since I am batch 6 assembly, has he even bought parts for assembly for boards in that batch yet?    In any case, I would be happy for even  a partial credit towards any new boards that may use BitFury or other asics if they decide on a plan B.  Just trying to minimize my losses.  ;-)

Cheers!

I believe assembly has already been paid for and is the actual mounting of the chips & components which a 3rd party is responsible for. The process continues at SB's location by adding the heatsink, fan, standoffs, etc. and shipping. I may be wrong.

At this point we need a good idea of ETA from Avalon in order to make an informed decision. Zefir's B option is likely the ONLY option for at least the first two batches of this group buy, regardless of how much Yifu doesn't like it.

b) compensation in BTC: deliver chips, compensate XX% of the initial price

b) I am not a fan of this, on a principle level I rather do a full refund. plus, I rather sell the chips once we have them in hand at a discount, instead of letting people wait.( which is about the same as doing a partial refund in my opinion.)

I hope my 128 chips from batch 1 &2  is enough to recoup some of my initial investment, what is your opinions regarding this?  I should get more back than a refund imho..

I'll be riding this storm out and won't be abandoning ship I until a week or two if the situation hasn't improved.

Steamboat, what is the turnover time on batch 1, how quick can u guys solder chips?

I am amazed that people who went into these group buys knowing the possibility of delays and increasing difficulty now want refunds. You made your decision to do a group buy and now because of late chip deliveries people want to bail. Accept the fact that you made a choice and it didn't work out. Take delivery of your chips when they arrive and have them assembled. Follow thru on your plan and then mine or sell. Don't try and make Steamboat the bad guy.

Did you see Steamboats post?   He offered  the chip refunds to buyers as an option.  No way am I holding him responsible for the Avalon cluster Fuck.  If there is a way I can salvage a few $K, I am going to take it. Strictly business.

Quote
Chip Refunds:
The Avalon website clearly states in their “no BS” terms of sale there are no refunds for Batch purchases. Yifu has since stated he will be making a refund form for chip purchases (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=269950.msg3030839#msg3030839).  Whether he will, when the refund option will be available, and when the refund will be processed is unknown. In the event Yifu and Bitsyncom do allow refunds, we will facilitate this process for all those willing to do so. We have tentatively drafted the following, which will be finalized and updated upon confirmation of this option from Yifu and Bitsyncom.

All those requesting a chip refund will be allowed to do so, so long as there are enough requests to fulfill an entire batch. We will not force anyone to accept a refund.

Refunds of batches will be requested from Yifu and Bitsyncom beginning with the last batch, and continue to the first so long as refund requests fill an entire batch.

Customers in a batch which has been refunded will be placed in an earlier batch according to their position in that batch’s order, and their position relative to other batches. All purchases will be kept in their original order, and the order book truncated to reflect the refunded purchases.

Once a refund request has been placed with us, and the refund request submitted to Yifu and Bitsyncom, it is final. There will be no option to receive the chips originally ordered for any reason once the process has begun.

Chip purchase refunds will be dispersed upon receipt of the refund from Yifu and Bitsyncom. We will supply any administrative paperwork necessary and do what we can to facilitate the refund, but we are not responsible for any delays outside of our control, which include delayed receipt of the refund from Yifu and Bitsyncom, and will not disperse refunds prior to receipt of the funds from Yifu and Bitsyncom.

We will post an update and send an email to everyone who has purchased chips with additional information and instructions once we have received confirmation of the refund option.

Anyone who would like a refund, please either PM me or email ChipRefund@3mail.33mail.com please include username, # of chips, batch number, and TXid.  Or forward your original email you sent to SteamBoat

The sooner we can verify that 10,000 chips want a refund the sooner we can request our BTC back from Yifu.

He has actually been doing a decent job on processing refund requests:  https://blockchain.info/address/1JrwWrt3TYUzMYFEBLX5hTo1zFsEY6tWZN

Avalon GUARANTEED a 9-10 week delivery on chips.  They broke their contract.

Nobody is asking steamboat to repay the costs of PCP boards and parts.  Users who are interested, are asking for steamboat to take Yifus offer to refund chip orders.  Steamboat made 10% on each batch - which is fair as he was the organizer.
