Bitcoin has become the currency of choice for cybercriminals. Its distinctive characteristics of decentralisation and pseudo-anonymity are also attractive to criminal actors in general, and yet Bitcoin has been assessed as representing only a low money laundering risk. In many respects, cryptocurrencies are still viewed as an unfamiliar, marginal phenomenon restricted to the purview of specialists. This article seeks: to demystify the Bitcoin concept; to demonstrate that, far from being low-risk, Bitcoin constitutes a substantial danger in terms of criminal enterprise; and to promote the case for greater awareness among criminal justice professionals and law enforcement officers in particular.

It’s up to the people how they are going to use their Bitcoin money. But, sadly, some are using them for illegal transactions such as buying drugs or weapons.

Yeap, but we don't live in the perfect world, so there always will be people who will use this or that thing for illegal purposes.

Bitcoin hates illegal activities or criminalities such us drugs, hackings, fraudulent activities and etc.
They are not tolerate these things so they provide a security that will monitor this such activities and immediate provide necessary action. Al people engage in this activity will be punishing by the law.

https://www.deepdotweb.com/2016/01/23/bitcoin-playing-an-increased-role-in-crime-europol-says/

Would you believe that the existence of bitcoin has increased the number of criminality in  some countries in the world. This is the issue that was being thrown by the EuroPol and the UK Metropolitan Police. According to them bitcoin has played a huge role on the increasing criminality in their area. They added that a huge number of cybercriminals were using bitcoins in their activities.

This just shows that as bitcoin develops both advantages and disadvantages will tag along.
Does this means there was lesser crime when we had cash transactions? Its just creating some negative buzz for bitcoin. There are always two types of people in the world. One who use an investion as a virtue while other use it as a vice. So better be the one who you use it as a virtue. There is just one flaw in bitcoin which is its anonymity which gives rise to such suspicious activities.

Well, that was really common and normal that with the sense of being beneficial, a certain thing can be used to tolerate such negative actions even though it is not really intended or made to be used up to support those bad actions. Maybe it is really true that because money can now be easily accessed with the used of being virtual, criminality rises but that was due to the irresponsibility of those users so we must not blame it all into Bitcoin and other types of cryptocurrency.

Before Bitcoin, cash was used in crimes. Doesn't matter what type of currency is used. Crimes will always happen no matter what.
Indeed, criminality is depends on people. Bitcoin is not a crime but some people use Bitcoin for criminality; some people use it for their own sake and they did not want to think the consequences.

do not be generalized, bitcoin holders are not criminals. they still use it for business and investment.
all currency can be used as a crime tool, and I do not like if bitcoin is associated with a source of crime.

We cannot avoid that to happen. One of the characteristics of Bitcoin is anonymity. That is why it is used in the black market for them to hide their true identity. A problem that we cannot eradicate that easily and will remain an issue as long as anonymity features of Bitcoin is used.

every kind of organised criminal is created if the goverment leave knowngly or unknowngly door open for them.
like, unregulated ways, every criminal will bring police state around the world closer and closer.. if those criminals dont taste that
totalitarian police state thierslefes then their kids will feel this very well what  their fathers has done Cheesy
and if their fathers did not save enough money for their kids from criminal activities then their kids will be in  big trouble..couse there will  be no more criminals existing in the future world at all.
but best way to find out for what was exacly purpose to create bitcoins is to ask from person who created bitcoin.

Criminality has been attached to internet even before the advent cryptocurrency, bitcoin should not be tagged with criminality.

The inexistence of a control over the currency has been the cause of the unleashing of crime in different parts of the world, that is a fact. But it is something that has been developed since years before with the black market.

Bitcoin is not criminal, criminal also using the bitcoin for their bad things.bitcoin transactions can do with anonymous names,so they are doing scams with bitcoin.

Yes of course using and holding BTC is not crime itself, but we should admit that it is often used for criminal activities, especially for money laundering and buying illegal staff.

They are totally different then each other because bitcoin is a digital currency and it’s here to be use for good things and if someone is using bitcoin for bad things so it’s a very bad news because bitcoin is here to help us I know that bitcoin price is very high and in some countries its price is very high and when they earn from it so then they exchange in their local currency and as result they get a lot of money so bitcoin need to fix this problem.

Always there where the big money there are people who want to quickly and easily earn. Decentralization and anonymity of cryptocurrencies will attract criminals.

To be honest, bitcoin is partly connected with criminal activity, there are criminals who, for illegal activities, they hide their cash flows, evade taxes  Roll Eyes
