Hello, I just started mining today on two 5830 cards using the Phoenix miner and connected to slush's pool. Seems to be working well. Only question I have is what causes rejected shares? I am averaging around 3.5% rejection on the shares on each worker. For example, on one of the 5830's Phoenix currently says "534 accepted, 18 rejected". Is this normal or high?

My Phoenix params are:

-k phatk DEVICE=[0/1] VECTORS BFI_INIT FASTLOOP=false WORKSIZE=256 AGGRESSION=13

Again, I know you've got your hands full keeping the pool running and working on long polling, but by any chance do you have anything in the works for idle notifications?

It's one of the things a few other pools offer that is enticing. I lost 2 hours of mining earlier today due to a freeze up. Worst part of that was I was home the whole time too

I believe I took that screen when there was one 2x6990 system on mining.bitcoin.cz, so about 1.5GH/s.

Wow! You've made more than double in one round than I've made total with four computers running non-stop for nearly three weeks!

I admit, this does shake my resolve. I've been looking at the returns on having these computers running full bore all this time and I've begun questioning if it is really worth it. Looking at the charts page, my daily reward has been sinking daily to the point where it is hovering around .002 per day. At the rate I'm going, it is going to take me well into next year to generate just 1.00 BTC, if at all!

I'm considering dropping my "send threshold" to .01 to collect what little I've made and dropping out. Is it really worth staying in?

You're helping the network at least by making transactions process faster, but in terms of generating any type of income or profit... I'd say drop out.

It's really a matter of numbers.  You need to figure out how much power you are using and what's it costing.  If it's going to take you 6-9 months to generate 1 BTC, then it may not be worth it with your equipment.  BTC is hovering around $18 a coint and I'm sure you're using more than $18 worth of electricity in that time.

Looks like a bunch of blocks are found.

However, when I log into the mining.bitcoin.cz site, my worker says "0 shares found"

Am I missing something?

A few old Macs running minerd. I certainly recognize that it is not as an elaborate setup as what others are running!

Initially, I was generating at least .01 BTC per day. I could live with that. But, over a couple of weeks, I watched that number dwindle rapidly. There have been a few rounds where my reported "reward" was 0.00000000 BTC. That's when I started getting discouraged.

The funny thing is, it really isn't about the bitcoins earned so much as it is trying to get a better performance out of what I have. Right now, that performance is looking pretty pathetic.

Unless you are doing something wrong that can be fixed for big gains, I wouldn't try too hard.  It seems for the most part optimizations can lead to a 10-30% increase, but a 30% increase of 0.00000 is still 0.00000

IMO under 10 bitcents per round is pretty bad (not at all unprofitable, but for me it's too low), but if the price keeps at this level or increases, stick with mining.

If you get under 1 cent per round or worse then it's definitely not worth it. But each to their own.

Also a 2+ hour round after several shorts is a bit suspicious too.

Is the hourly score normalizer working?

Possibly, but we did have a 2 hour run last night, probably just a long round, the rounds have such variance, from 30 seconds to 3 hours, it's not surprising to get an extremely long run after a while.

What type of hardware are you running to get over 10 bitcents per round? I am currently running two 5830's that produce ~300 Mhash/sec each. Over the last 12 hours I have averaged around 3.8 bitcents per round.

A couple of quick & very newbie questions:

1- I know that the pool gets 1 BTC as a fee from each found 50 BTC block to keep the servers running, but is there any fee deductions from my payout as well? For example I set my payout to be when I reach 5 BTC, will I get that or less due to certain fees? If yes, how much are they?

2- When setting my wallet address, is that one of my "Receiving Addresses" codes from the Bitcoin application?

Any help would be appreciated.
