Ah well, luck will come back Smiley
But we don't want it to get TOO high or the difficulty will go up, right?

When Slush pool has e.g. 110 % luck, it increases the global luck by some 1 % only, as its global share is roughly 10 %. That manifests itself by 1 % rise in difficulty in the next period. So it's not so bad to have good luck in our pool provided that other pools/miners have normal 100 % luck. :-)

As long as our good luck is someone else's bad luck, it won't affect difficulty.

According to the statistics, everyone's luck is independent of the other's one. Sure, when you're lucky, say, 110 % luck, and the other one is "only" 100% lucky, your share is higher. But this doesn't mean it's their bad luck. Just lower than yours. It doesn't work the way that when you have 110 %, they must have 90 %.

Not only according to statistics, but also according to how the system works.
But thanks for stating this, i was just too tired to type it again Smiley

Maybe I should have been more precise. Sure I've had statistics as the science the system is based on on my mind (i.e. "how the system works"), not a statistic result of real data observation.

I noticed on the account page that NameCoins unconfirmed rewards was temporarily N/A.  Does that mean we aren't currently merge mining and will receive no NameCoin?  Or that we just don't have a nice unconfirmed indicator?

Slush's pool stopped merged mining when the getwork servers were shut down.  Slush has not stated any plans to add NMC merged mining to the Stratum pools.

What process takes place behind 100 confirmations counting down to zero when earnings become confirmed. I joined a different pool for a couple of days but there was no such thing there.

I'm back to slush for the fact that it is so simple... and I've gotten a lot of support here.

The process is just waiting for other blocks to be generated, to make sure the block found by the pool is part of the (longest) valid chain and not an orphaned fork.
The pool operator has to decide how much risk to take, some pay right away and hope its valid, some count down without displaying (and have the earnings show as unconfirmed reward, too).

BTC Guild helps it self grow massively and quickly by selling ASICs.

Maybe Slush could employ someone to do something similar?

Same here. Sucks to see 1.5 hours of mining go bad.
