In the next year ETH will overtake BTC as the number 1 cryptocurrency.  I would unload your bitcoin while you still can.
Ethereum would still be next after Bitcoin. Ethereum is a strong cryptocurrency and I am convinced that it is mostly and widely use in all bounty campaigns. Bitcoin is independent and can stand even without other coins. It can go on and would still be the most indemand coin. With this, Bitcoin will remain the first and only coin on top.

This will take some more time. If bitcoin cannot integrate lightening to mainnet than yes ethereum will overtake bitcoin for sure.
We need lightening as soon as possible for bitcoin. Also need some more improvements for ethereum network too.

Exactly, once the lighten network is out bitcoin is going to move. Is bitcoin a base of Etheruem protocol? So without bitcoin, Ethereum will fall. Please correct me if I wrong.

Dont think it will happen because of its mass scale adoption acros the world and pretty much everyone heard about it.Yes bitcoin have problems with transaction fees and time of it but eth isnt really much better, thing that people are forgeting that btc isnt over with improvment for example lighting network should be up this year for btc

Actually it is bit early to make comment about this debate. We should see how they will survive after this panic selling. if btc stays around where it is and eth goes over 1200 usd, then there is sign that good boy ether can outrun btc.

I'm not saying that it is impossible, but what I think is that it will not happen soon. Bitcoin is still the leading cryptocurrency and is still increasing its value very rapidly hence I think that it will remain on top for quite some time.

i don't think so. bitcoin will still remain on top because bitcoin community has a lot of strategies so that's why i believe that no altcoins can surpass bitcoin

Could go either way, ethereum is the most popular platform now but anotehr could rise up and eclipse it over the next year or 2.

The exchanges have started adding additional trading pairs for a number ok coins and tokens. This weakens the position of BTC. Still there is plenty of coins that are only trading against BTC. Overall I think ETH might do better than BTC this year.

While many will compare the cryptocurrency aspect of both Ethereum and Bitcoin, the reality is that they are vastly different projects and have different intentions. Bitcoin has emerged as a relatively stable digital currency, while Ethereum aims to encompass more, with ether just a component of its smart contract applications.

I don't think so. I believe Ethereum will very increase in  2018 but never overtake bitcoin. I estimate that the parity will stay around 0.1 and ethereum will be 2000 usd end of the 2018

I dont think it can overtake in short term period but we all witnessed that ethereum was much more stronger and stable comparing with bitcoin during last january. It is a really good sign for ethereum.

Once ETH implements the Casper hard fork a whole new set of possibilities will be open to explore.

IMHO the most important change in ETH's horizon will be the switch to a full PoS algorithm as that will end ETH mining as it currently exists.

Today there is a huge community spending a lot of money on GPUs mainly to mine ETH, and those are keeping the trading volume high because many of those miners need to sell the coins they produce immediately to pay for the electricity spent generating those same coins.

When ETH turns to PoS, pending on the final specs, the market might change dramatically because then many users will be encouraged to keep their coins to generate passive income therefore decreasing the global trading volume.

On the other hand, with the end of PoW mining probably most mining rigs' owners will move to another algorithm/coin losing interest in ETH which can affect it's price.

But, at the same time the PoS will probably attract a plethora of new enthusiast eager to generate one of the finest crypto assets with no power waste.

And this might be the key factor.... PoS has a better chance of succeeding in a greener future and that might be a decisive edge for ETH to close the gap to BTC.

Will it ever take over BTC? Who knows?

Stay tuned...  Grin

Bitcoin is the KING for ASIC miner, but with GPU miner, Ethereum is always the KING.
Ethereum is also has a huge community and it is not small as you think, at least the value of Ethereum has changed and higher than 1/10 the value of Bitcoin past days.

There is no sign of evidence this is going to happen in the near future. Bitcoin will always have the early adopter bonus, plus the fact that majority of investors is not realy interested in possible real world applications on its own, only regarding to how speculative future applications can increase ROI.

i don't think so too, ETH will going up for sure, but i don't think Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin,
Bitcoin will still in the top of cryptocurrency, but Ethereum is the best for now to invest for a long-term investment.

With BTC getting so volatile and increase in total cap for ETH coming close to BTC, this could really make a move.
But again, it still need nearly 55 B USD marketcap to overtake and move to position 1. If BTC stay volatile as it is in Q1 2018 over a longer term, this could really happen.

It will be possible in my opinion as ethereum each the currency that already raised a lot of transaction in the crypto. But the important thing about the bitcoin just like rule in the crypto and every altcoin pegged with it. until ethereum will stand with its own value and it will not happen.
