Are we able to use BFGminer for Gridcoin?  I use it for all my other crypto-mining so far so I was wondering if CGMiner is mandatory for Gridcoins?  One of the main turn offs for me with CGMiner when I first started this was all the virus warnings.  I'm aware they are false positives but I also suspect there are versions of them out there that are not false at all.

However since Gridcoin works so closely with CGMiner I took another look at it today.  Unfortunately I was not able to get CGMiner or GUIMiner to work after some considerable effort.  So out of curiosity I set up BFGMiner to see if I could reach 127.0.0.1:9332 and it seems to have worked on the first try with no issues.  I'm not getting any hashings yet but it is saying it found a new block on the network and it seems to be picking up the difficulty.

I was never able to get GUIminer to connect, but BFGminer did without an issue at all.  I did port forwarding for GUIMiner and made an exception in Norton's Firewall and even shut down Norton completely (Windows Firewall is also off) to try to get it to connect but I had no luck.  I also verified the user and password multiple times and made sure stratum was set to no.  I used the same settings for BFGMiner and had no issues connecting.

Of course another possibility is to run CGMiner, but when I try it says I'm missing a libcurl.dll file.  Checking what the libcurl.dll is and how many virus versions of it there are out they certainly didn't encourage me to get it.  The risks just make me uncomfortable.  I have several computers running the same version of Windows and none of the systems have libcurl.dll.

In fact,  I am very uncomfortable with my virus checkers and Chrome warning me on all the things I'm trying to do when it comes to CGMiner.  Ironically for whatever reason BFGMiner does not set off those same alerts and I didn't have to disable firewalls, make exceptions or forward ports for BFGMiner to connect.

I know you are working hard to get around the virus alerts.  But I'm hoping that Gridcoins mining console and subsequent payouts aren't tied directly to CGMiner.  I certainly hope it isn't.

My BOINC has begun dropping to exactly 50% once a day with version 58 of Gridcoin running fine. The fix has been as easy as clicking on the task to bring it to the front, staring hard at my monitor, and counting to three. Not sure why it thinks that use 100% of the processor all the time means I want it to take breaks, but there are worse things. I also haven't updated BOINC in a while, so I'm not sure which version is ahead of me or if I'm behind significantly. Everything else seems fine though.

Can someone teach us exactly how to solo mine this coin with 100% boinc like which version of the client should we donwload as well as the version of boinc, which one to install first client of boinc? or it doesn't matter. how many project should be added to the boinc? will the boinc utilization will reach 100% already even at the first time of installation or we need some time to make it up to 100%. when i read the procedure how to mine this coin there is an option to click register in the wallet which is not available in the new version. Thanks

I think we need a comprehensive instruction manual or some kind or video tutorial for the new people.

Ok, here is the guide: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=403734.msg4368640#msg4368640

For the moment, it may not provide 100% BOINC utilization but that is not an issue with the guide, this is an issue which MANY (if not all) people are experiencing with the newest versions of Gridcoin. Rob is currently working on the problem and I'm sure it will be fixed shortly.

Just when I thought things were settling down; by checking the other forum I thought we were past the 50% problem.

I'm running 3 versions of boinc without a problem; old; newest and 7.0.0.64, (64 bit version), and I can't reproduce any problems with the newest version of gridcoin.

Have you tried deleting "c:\programdata\boinc\gridcoin.dat" and restarting gridcoin?
Have we tried removing some projects and testing Wcg + malaria?  Also press "Update" on the project?

I believe the only remaining issue may be a non-compatible stamp in the file above.  Please let me know.

Confirming the issue is fixed on the newest version by deleting "c:\programdata\boinc\gridcoin.dat" and restarting gridcoin

Excellent work Rob! Updating my guide...

Agreed. Also we need "fan site kit" of Gridcoin — graphics and so on. Maybe it would be nice idea to appoint some bounties? This can force activity of community, what mean much for newly borned crypto currencies.

If solo mining has become too hard for your hashrate, add the following line to your gridcoin.conf:
Code:
poolmining=true

and then continue as if you were solo mining, this will add you to gridcoin's internal pool system.

Slashka:  I'll be looking at the android e-mails from Leismith ASAP, please don't be discouraged; hopefully you two can create a new android repository asap.

Ok, Rob! Besides, I couldn't compile it Sad About repo. Will it be another one or a part of a official? Because I can create it in a second

It's not stratum or anything like it(it doesn't splits the blocks for pool workers), so it dosn't make any sense

You don't mine at a lower difficulty, but you will receive a small piece of every block found.

The only requirement  is that you must find a block first to begin receiving payouts from the pool and you must find a block at least once every 100 blocks to stay in the pool or you will be removed from the pool until you find another block as the pool has a 100 block look-back period.
