Miners, obviously.

yea, maybe.
So they think that NXT is kind of against BTC & al.
Isn't the case more like so that all cryptocurrencies are on the same side and USD, euros, pounds, etc. are on the other side?

Usually it is a good thing to have a new member or competitor in the area, which is new for customers. That increases the total volume of the area and also the customers will have more alternatives. That "concept" is from more common products like cars, consumer electronics, ... why couldn't that work with currencies, too.

Miners cannot mine NXT. Their investment in asic miner and GPU cards are useless with POS systems. Asic miners cannot mine NXT so they become hate generators. Very understandable here because for some mining and mining industry is where their professional jobs are.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

In general people dislike whatever they don't understand and haven't taken the time to investigate.
Tiring, but true.

I give it a few months and then a lot of people who now are against it will pretend to have loved it all along.

ANNOUNCEMENT  Nxt Net Application http://95.85.8.113:9000/nxtnet
I'm glad to announce my Nxt-based web application. It's a decentralized storage of URI's on top of Nxt AM. The app allows you to add a new URI with description and search among existing records.

This is interesting.

Hey, anybody else concerned that we might have a mess with all the apps using AM?

Shouldn't we add some sort of filesystem on top of AM, which would treat them as clusters?

Or at least some UID to distinguish between AM's of different apps?

Question about transaction costs...

Is this going to be a problem in the future, is it always set at 1 NXT per transfer.

If the value of 1 NXT ever reaches.. let's say $8 USD.. wouldn't that be too much for a transaction cost?

It will be lowered once Nxt rises more.
This is already planned Smiley

The community will decide what it considers a good amount for costs.

The Nxt ID can be this UID, right?
But I agree, we need some sort of standard (or a recommendation, at least).

Hm, still quite a lot of nodes that haven't upgraded to 0.5.10.
I even spot a 0.4.9e. :/

Thanks!  That's great to hear..

Is there any more specifics of how it gets lowered?  Does this mean a new binary is released that has lowered transaction costs.. or is somehow the network able to adjust itself?

mining industry ...  yes, if someone is just trying to get his bread from mining, then he may think so. If he has already done his fortune with BTC or others, then he might try also other things instead of hating.

Yes, it is understandable - though not acceptable ... to vote No  Smiley

But I agree, we need some sort of standard (or a recommendation, at least).

Your app uses a particular address as I understand, to create this "mini-google", right?

But what if there are several apps that use user accounts? Encrypted messages, plain messages, reputation system, receipts, what not.

EDIT:
And even with your app you already have a problem of type and need to create those tags.

Ah, I see.
In my app messages are sent to the app Nxt ID. But if messages are sent between user Nxt IDs then, yes, we have a problem.

yes, one just must have patience. The same happens with actors or artists: when they just continue their career, doing the things, which they see important, then finally the "customers" accept them.

Well, in the spirit of simplicity we could agree that the first 4 bytes is a unique tag for each protocol/application.

Not sure how well such gentlemen agreement would be honored, though.

Hey CfB,  are we at a point where still more public vpss are useful?  Some donors are wondering if we should be good with what we have

I don't think it would be too pressing to get more at this time.

Both my nodes are in the Top20 of weight as long as they are active, and barely have anything to do most of the time. I see 10% maximum baseline link saturation, with rare short peaks above that.

Let me understand this....
The guy who created this thing started with 1 billion coins.
Let's assume that he shared that 1 billion coins with 99 other people

He made a public announcement that lasted for weeks where anybody could invest up to 1 Bitcoin to receive a proportional share of the 1 billion coins generated.  73 people did so.  You or I could have done so had we known about it.  As he said himself, he could have gotten a million people in the initial distribution and the other 7 billion people on Earth would claim foul.

NXT has its challenges to overcome but shame over the initial distribution of currency is not one of them.
