What is your hashrate ?Are those "None"s mostly on the shortest blocks ?

Thanks to Veldy (sorry if mistyped your name Smiley ) my hashrate is ~280Mhash/s Smiley
Yes, mostly on shortest blocks and there is usually many shares for those blocks. I'm not on my main machine so i don't remember exact figures.

Usually +1k of shares on those "none"s.

I've been disconnecting randomly throughout the day, usually for only a few seconds to a minute then it picks back up. But just now my miners wouldn't reconnect and I had to restart them a few times. It could be my school internet, but it's been good lately and I still had internet access. Phoenix doesn't seem to be causing it. I've also seen a few seconds of idle while waiting for more work happen today.

Could this be the huge growth in deepbit? Or maybe just sketchy internet.

Could someone explain me why i have those "none"s in my statistic page even i use proportional? Miner is on ATM 24/7 and no communacition problems according to log?
What is your hashrate ?
Are those "None"s mostly on the shortest blocks ?

Ive gotten 4 or 5 of these. Really short blocks and I put in a significant amount of shares compared to the overall. like 75 to 400 and I get none. This is not regular but has happened like 4 or 5 times that I've noticed.

Sometimes the round ends before you have a chance to submit a share, that's why you see "None." This happens more on shorter rounds.

Hey! just noticed the Reward estimator under the statistics page...
It claims that i'd get two coins a day if i was on PPS(24/7),(10% tax) Whilest i get One coin a night when running under Prop.(3%tax)

So it would seem that when running @ 290Megahashes, It's now More beneficial to swap off of prop and goto PPS?
I know that my Prop value is quite low (0.05% of the pool) but that 7% tax increse just screams at me "DONT DO ITTTTTTTTTTTT"
Whilst the Deepbit Calculator say "Dude why arent you doing this already, your acting like a jackass"

The main thing that i noticed was that if i was running at 1500mhash/sec (like i plan to Very soon) then under PPS i would get 12 coins every 24hrs

THATS AWESOME!!!!!
But that 12 coins is with the 10% tax... So érgo wouldnt i get more under Prop. simply because of the lower tax?
Because im really foggy when it comes to How Much im getting paid in proportion to my speed vs the pool.
I like how PPS=Steady payloads but... Wouldnt one get less ß the slower the pool goes? and under Prop. wouldnt one get MORE the slower the pool goes?
Now for the upcoming questions, Just assume that im running at 1500

1.)So:PPS=Bigger pool better for you?
2.)Prop.=Good if your one of the bigger guys?
3.)Small pool prop.=good?
4.)Big pool prop.=bad?
5.)Small pool PPS=bad?
6.)(within deepbit) What would be an estimated pool speed percentage required to be making more while under Prop. (1%? .25%?)

Dude !! Thats like asking how longs a piece of string lol Cheesy I asked the same questions but there is no answer. Here's my take on things PPS and prop are about the same no matter how big the pool gets. When deepbit jumped from 300 to 500Ghs I swapped to PPS for a bit mining at around 550Mhs. I was getting around 3.5 to 4 bitcoins in 24 hours. So I swapped back and its about the same. I wouldn't worry too much about your percentage to the total because if the pool gets bigger blocks are found quicker. So you get a smaller share but more often.

You noticed a nearly negligble amount of decrese when switching to PPS? That sounds fucking awesome!
If you could elaborate that'd be nice, and worth a tip

That seems to indicate there are some MASSIVE miners on that pool ... maybe not the best place for the little guy?  Just judging by the numbers.  I never tried PPS, so I can't say based on my experience.  It seems like there is no way to come out ahead with PPS unless your hash rate is way below the average hash rate per miner (to make up for that extra 7%, otherwise it would just have to be below the average hash rate per miner).  You end up with more of those "None" values in your list if you are too slow it seems.

Yes, I think so, because there will be to many rounds where you won't have had a chance to submit any share and you get paid nothing with proportional.  I see several "None" rounds even though I dow as having submitted shares (during short rounds) and got no partner at 370Mh/s.

Well yes in a pinch but there's lots more variables to consider like performance of your hardware/network/miner and not to mention your and the pools luck so it could go either way its a gamble you have to take. But PPS I think is more for someone that doesn't think the risk is worth it and wants a steady income. Proportional is more of a risk to the miner as it can be a bit of a gamble but the charges are lower.

If you want my advise if you mining at anything over 150Mhs I'd stick with proportional because since deepbit had the surge of miners from slush its eating blocks for breakfast. I haven't done the math but at a quick glance I'd say deepbit finds a block on average every 15 - 20 mins Cheesy

Like I said your payout per block will be smaller but you get more payouts. but I'm sure others will have their own take on things this is just mine. Unfortunately there's no formula for luck Sad

So, is it best for us small guys to switch PPS?

Yes, I think so, because there will be to many rounds where you won't have had a chance to submit any share and you get paid nothing with proportional.  I see several "None" rounds even though I dow as having submitted shares (during short rounds) and got no partner at 370Mh/s.

Interesting opinion but think about it how many shares would you of generated in less than a min ? I think it doesn't matter that sometimes you may get nothing for a really short round considering that a 360Mhs miner would submit 5/6 hashes in one minute. And if you none in a round its more than likely that round lasted under 45 seconds Cheesy

Deepbit pays 0.00041032137601209 per hash so in that none round you would of made 0.00246192825607 if you submitted 6 shares in the short round. In a 5 hour period on prop I earned 0.52055329 btc from the short rounds (under 5 mins to find a block). But overall I earned on prop was 1.1023250900 BTC switching to PPS I would of made around 1.15 BTC. So theres not a lot in it really.

Did you run a ping test, traceroute; ask the pool operator to run a reverse traceroute [have them run a traceroute to your IP address].  They may not have time to do this, but you may find issues by trying other internet sites that run reverse traceroutes for you.

Giganews offers one and I am sure DSL reports has tools for this too.  http://www.giganews.com/performance.html#traceroute

Are you running QoS on your router?  Can you?  Give priority to traffic on port 8332.

It's 16m checkout the statistics page on deepbit. But I will say they have been coming fast this evening.

9/10 its your internet Cheesy I have miners that do that from time to time but they run from mobile broadband dongles and the quality of service sucks Wink

You are correct.  I never noticed that stat at the bottom until now.  The average is 16 minutes, but I an quite sure that the median is a lot lower (a nearly two hour round skews the average ... median time would be an interesting addition).

EDIT: I corrected where I wrote mean, but intended to use the word median if that wasn't clear in context.

There was a ~40% difficulty increase recently, so what each share is worth went down. (from the way I understand it)

how do you know what the "fixed amount" per share is when opting for the per share payout option?  I've searched everywhere, and seen that it has changed, but what is the current amount and how is it calculated?
