thenotfatguy, have you already performed a giveaway for mintpal votes in the past? perhaps i just didn't see it but it's not popping into my memory. but yeah i think that it would be a great tool to start cranking up this engine. and just to be clear on my end, i'm not insinuating that if we got listed on mintpal tomorrow, all the services would be out the door the next day. I'm simply trying to anticipate a rough timeline in my head for when these are probable, and how to make sure that the community is up to speed for when they arrive. wanting to support this coin beyond the bumper-sticker level, i think that the community's main focus is indeed the mintpal listing. that's what we have power over, so that's what will get done. *wait a minute, VOTE FOR OCTO 2014 bumper stickers! brilliant! and a poster like the Shepard Fairey "HOPE" one, with instead a 1/4 silhouette of the octo logo in blue and red, with "OCTO" at the bottom. we could mimic a whole political campaign replacing copy with "VOTE FOR OCTO" www.mintpal.com would be easy to rip-off, there's tons of source material for that. anyways, my point is look at digibyte, they launched with a lot of fanfare, services, promo, 30 different languages, they had bounties, givaways, it looked like they did everything right. but they did this overnight, they tried to become an insta-celeb in the crypto world, and a lot of people didn't bite. the coin flopped, when it looked like it could have been the first coin in a while to get it right. I feel that for a community to have a real lasting interest in a coin, it has to be brought up grass-roots. So far, octo gets outstanding marks in this field, but we're plateauing. So let's get that ball moving, let's get that momentum building. A mintpal vote giveaway wordpress or something perhaps? a webpage that could easily be linked, facebooked, tweeted and retweeted? i want something that can be thrown around the web like a ragdoll. I can write copy (non-smutty i promise), but i have little technical expertise outside that. A slick 1-pager with site links, the BCT thread link, and a stat counter to show how many votes we have, if that can be pulled from the mintpal API at all, not sure on that one but would be cool. definitely a counter showing the total prize reward. 12 days till the bonus blocks end? let's start it tonight. 12 days of octocoin bam, done. link to the faucet to get a few octo in people's pockets, encourage them to mine, and then a contest for votes. I'll pledge 3000 octo for it right now. and another 3000 to whatever person or team makes it a reality. blah. I'm bad with wording stuff. I had done a giveaway to draw attention to octocoin in the past. not for mintpal votes though Expect to see your idea of the Shepard Fairey spin-off soon though EDIT: Tadaaa! It's not perfect, but I'm happy with what I got done in an hours time Wow, good job man! If I could hurry up and get some stuff mined I will send you that bounty I owe ya. I'm so behind on stuff right now, I swear.. Hoping this summer is going to be a good one for the Octo crew!

Liking what we're seeing - keep up the good work. The Reddit OctoCoin Tip Bot is back online - we thought our Reddit Gold subscription would automatically renew each month but apparently that wasn't the case; the 3-month subscription we had expired and, as a result, CAPTCHA issues locked up the tip bot. We purchased a 12-month Reddit Gold subscription, made a couple tweaks to the bot, and fired it back up. If you notice any issues please inform us via PM or at: admin@octocoin.orgEmails that go to the above address are forwarded to all of the OctoCoin team members so it's a good place to send anything urgent. Yup, woke up with 25 messages of "tip expired" in the Reddit inbox. Will keep an eye on things as always and will report to you @Edric I told you twice to keep your bounty, but if you really are so insistent send it when you can and I'll find a good use for it. Also, Valve can't count to 3

It's actually kind of funny how quickly we are destroying the other coins on the MintPal vote... Someone should have told them not to blink.

We have almost finished the (not previously mentioned) revamped Reddit Tip Bot, by the way. There was an issue trying to convert 888 to various fiat options that was locking things up so we decided to build a new tip bot yesterday from the ground up specifically for OctoCoin. We will be using the same database, so statistics and pending tips (as long as they are still valid) should remain as they were. We will build some new features into the system down the line as well (open to community suggestions, of course).
Once things begin to heat up, we are expecting more activity on Reddit in general. We will be appointing a handful of you as moderators at /r/octocoin to help keep things on topic and running smoothly. As I have mentioned before, everybody on the OctoCoin team has minimal availability during business hours (all of us are now located in the US) due to our day jobs/etc and we have our hands pretty full as-is with OctoCoin development projects.
We're getting closer every day.

That's great to hear! Are there any new features for the new and improved Tip Bot? Will be putting it to good use soon enough

nice update octoteam, and congrats to all on the ritualistic slaying of GPUcoin! on an unrelated note, would anyone like to purchase my 50k GPUcoins? I bought 0.1btc of their IPO, forgot about it, and just found out that they totally dropped the ball. too bad cause they had a neat concept, but looks like for several reasons they didn't succeed, one of which i'm sure is that they launched an online store selling products without having the market movement/stability to reinforce their coin as a currency. would have been interesting to see what would have happened to them if they did their mintpal voting campaign before the store launch, and not after. speaking of voting campaigns! i'm all fired up about our progress on mintpal, but if we're being honest we need twice as many votes as we have right now just to be a contender for #1, and everyday that limit keeps raising. I'd love to contribute to a campaign for "getting out the mintpal vote", but i think that in order to put the time in to creating a webpage, i'd need to know if it's technically feasible. can any of our more technically-inclined members please inform me if there's a way to "tally" registered mintpal votes from individual users? and to do so in a way that would be impossible to cheat? i'm really not sure about this, and at the back of my head i don't think it's possible, not without giving out your mintpal login, and who would want to do that? potential security risk for minimal potential profit. if anyone has some insight, please let me know!

It makes me angry that mintpal adds every fuc*in' shitcoin. It makes me hate that exchange more and more. Everytime you have to watch this Pump & Dump shit, plus a bunch full of dead cryptos (like WC) while coins like Octo aren't being noticed. I really hope Octo will be different. After hundreds of alts, it could still be the first one to be respected and making sense.
I would like to be able to respond to your post with +1 or +888 but since my status is newbie... they delete my post if its only a couple of characters lol. So now that I said that +1 888

I feel your pain - they need to have more discretion, in my opinion, when it comes to adding coins to their voting list. Octo will be different than all of the other "voted on" coins - this coin is the real deal. 3 months after the launch it's still maintaining an average hash rate of 300+ Mh/s with an active dev team and dedicated community despite minimal liquidity and poor exchange support. I met a couple of these guys at SXSW this year and they are already successful in their other ventures so I have no doubt there is some good stuff to come. They aren't approaching this as a "get rich quick" scheme like 99% of new alts - they're approaching it like a business. I have a project in the works myself that will involve OctoCoin in a significant way. The worst part about 888 is that it's nearly impossible to get my hands on a decent quantity of them! Hopefully a listing on MintPal will change that (I had no idea it was that high up the list). I will start voting for 888 from now on until it gets listed since Murraycoin is a long distance from the top and already being traded on Cryptsy.

nice bholzer, i didn't know any of the community got to meet these guys at the now infamous SXSW festival. I hate to sound like a gossip queen, but i think we'd all love to know more about who's driving this coin forward. that being said, it's not business-savvy, so i think we're all good with that. i'll settle for some blurry shots of the parabolic flight and as for mintpal, they earn their bread through volume, so to them it doesn't matter if a coin is PnD or not. But the voting is special, in a way it's the only exchange to be truly democratic like that, where any coin can get listed, and if it has the popular vote, then it wins. very presidential. also speaking of national politics, money talks and you can just buy your way to the top if getting the public on your side doesn't work lol. fact is mintpal gets paid in the coin they're trading, so if the coin tanks, then what they hold of value tanks too, unless they're up to the minute on every single pump happening and constantly selling off their own shares etc. which i highly doubt. They would stand to profit a lot more from a stable constant high volume coin, and i'm sure that's what they hope they'll get with the next voted coin, but that's rarely the case, however they still honour their system and add the #1 coin on the list every week, that to me is cool. And it's old news that Octo will blow these other clowncoins out of the water, i'm just trying to down-play it so people start selling some damn coins again! Mintpal has it's faults, but the voting system is not one of them IMO, can't hate on an actual open democratic system. it's kinda refreshing actually, one might say... minty? =p

Correct. I think for many here Octo has been scary because you are used to buying pump and dump coins to make $ on the dump. With Octo even if you wanted to do that you couldn't really. At one point you did ok when it was listed on cryptorush but other than that it's stayed fairly the same price range and around the same volume. The good thing is that while it's been a slow process, you know that good things are coming once the apps are released. I think it's kinda exciting to be involved in a coin that's going to stand out. There are only handful that stand out and have had staying power. Some of those are still some of the OG alt coins too, like Litecoin, Peercoin and Namecoin. They have consistently stayed near the top of coinmarketcap and most have a fair amount of places that accept them as payment. Some like Doge have proven to be a mainstay and some like Darkcoin bring something new to the table and have had a quick, profitable rise. We will soon be able to guage where Octo will stand once we hit the larger exchanges and finally see some of the apps released! Don't Blink!
