Can someone please tell me the exact mechanics on the block generation with ones coins, mainly explaining how sometimes a share is generated without a split and other times it is split?

I have not seen a block generated without a split before, and then I see it in clamcoin, and I thought it was wonderful, then later it split. The process was split initial coin, each initial split was not split with coin gens, then those same coins split later with coin gens. A bit confusing.

While clam is a nice idea the dev certainly had the opportunity to set up thousands of doge or ltc wallets with the minimum required amount before launch to make sure he's got a nice bag.

They likely stored tens of thousands of clams.

Or maybe they watched each other somehow to verify none of them were building many addresses so it was hard for any of them to create too many addresses to profit.

I could, but it would be long and confusing because it has changed so many times.

If you use the current 1.4.10 release you can put:

    splitsize=10.37

in your clam.conf file and it will split the stake reward into multiple 10.37 CLAM outputs if the output you're staking is bigger than twice that size, and will leave it alone if it isn't.

So if you never want any splitting, just use:

    splitsize=9999999

If you don't specify splitsize at all, it will split your staked output into two roughly equal parts if the output took less than 24 hours to stake. The idea being that if an output stakes that quickly it's probably too big and would stake more efficiently in future if it was split.

There's also this option:

    combinelimit=10.37

That does the opposite, and pulls in extra outputs when staking to make bigger a bigger output, but it won't exceed that combinelimit in size.

I set them both to the same, so my big outputs get split into 10.37's, and my small outputs get grouped into 10.37's, and I end up with everything being around the same size without having to do it myself.

But as I say, it used to be different in other versions. See https://github.com/nochowderforyou/clams/releases for a list of recent changes.

Like I say, the default behaviour is to split only if the stake took less than 24 hours which is a random process. So whether outputs are split or not depends on how lucky you are at staking.

I see what problem is. you had it on BTC currency. you have to click on CLAM currency to see the bet.

I don't think you understand how it works.

So far there has been one bet. They bet 8 CLAM on "no".

If you bet 100 CLAM on "yes" and nobody else bets, you win the 8 CLAM that was bet on "no". That's all.
It's the same as if you bet 1 CLAM on "yes" and nobody else bet. You still win the 8 CLAM that was bet on "no".

You can see this using the on-site calculator:



It shows that betting 100 on "yes" gets you back 106.92. That's your 100 plus the losing bet of 8, minus fees of 1.08 (that's 1% of the total bet amount of 108 CLAM).

So your profit would only be 6.92.

If you bet 1 CLAM on "yes", you'd get back 8.91 for a profit of 7.91. Only 0.09 would be taken in fees (1% of the total bet amount of 9 CLAM).



So it turns out the less you bet the more profit you make - if you're the only one betting that side.

Also did you see the graphical representation of a 0-8 split?



That's just weird.

0 should look a little smaller than that!

It feels like a poorly-done knockoff of bitbet.us, without the action. Even the bet itself is a direct copy:

The problem with that is that you're unlikely to get anyone betting against you. If I think the price of CLAM is going way down, why would I bet in CLAM? I would sell my CLAM right now and buy BTC, or something that I didn't think was going way down. Otherwise even if I win the bet against you, I lose. I would effectively be saying "I think CLAM is going to be worth nothing soon. If I'm right, pay me some worthless CLAM, and if I'm wrong take my valuable CLAM". Nobody will (or at least, nobody should) take that bet.

My question to this bet on the price of clam in the future would be, if bitcoin sprints up to $1000 would this coin go up with it? That's what I think the wager is basically. It's a wager on how many clams to the bitcoin, it's 180 now.
