Well the S3's destroyed my Thermaltake 600W PSUs which had previously been powering cubes without any issues. They ran fine with them for about 30 minutes although cables were getting pretty hot, not 100% sure why it killed them yet. One PSU went peacefully, the other gave a nice fireworks display.  Shocked    Ended up using a Corsair RM1000 to power both and they have been running pretty good since, with no hot cables.  Grin

For the past few days one S3 was only avging 380GHs and showed no 'x' and everything looked fine but after a reboot it kicked it somewhat back in gear. Currently around 430GHs avg now. The other has been running fine avging 440GHs. No overclocking attempts at this point.

Where you using the 600W for running both? If so it would have been to much power draw for the power supply to handle. The S3 that is having issues it might be good to try re-flashing/updating the firmware.

Message me if you have any problems

Thanks for replying, I'm hoping some more will share stories.

Which model thermaltake psu was that? You used it for only one unit?

This is the main reason I am on the search for a quality PSU which can handle the proper power on the 12V rail. I'm worried about using split pci-e cables because 24/7 operation and hot cables doesn't always end up good Sad Problem for me searching is the amount of PCI-e cables that actually come with most sub 1000w psu. I might end up getting a handful of the molex to PCI-e adapters Sad

One 600W per S3, I wouldn't attempt to power 2 on a 600W - the mathematics just don't work out.  Cheesy
Didn't realize there was a firmware update already but I will give this a try, thanks!

Thermaltake TR2-600NL2NC
https://www.thermaltakeusa.com/products-model_Specification.aspx?id=C_00002032

I had 1 powering each S3. I initially tried using the split cable with both PCIx connections, but ended up using the split cable to power 1 connection on the S3 and using an adapter to convert 2x LP4s to a PCIx and used that as the 2nd connection - this may have been a mistake but my intent was to balance out the heating of the cables, which was a bigger issue using the split cable. The RM1000 has been running fine and the cables are cold (and flat)

Maybe that's your issue.  Another user reported a big improvement after cleanup of the excess paste.  Let us know how you go.

Good luck

Gee you are very helpful, thank you!

There are several guides and exchanges where you can get your bitcoin. The mining forum isn´t really the best place to start (although some mining companies do take $)

That's why I just wanted to buy with PayPal as it's my first miner and I just want to have bit fun and not too serious about getting into bit coins buying and selling at this stage.

Thanks.

You can always check out eBay. There are 100s of miners available and you can use PayPal.

Do you really believe that it could affect the fact that I cant see the blade in miner page?

Question for you S3 owners.

What is considered the "overclocked" speeds that require 4 PCI-e connectors?

Many power supplies are a pain now a days, I don't know what to do if I plan on running 2 off one PSU because 8PCI-E cables is really not the norm.

On the Supernova 1300 G2 by EVGA it has 6 PCI-E 8pins, and not enough molex to do a molex to pci-e adaptor. Also curious what kind of PSU you all are using for these units.

Any advice will be great, thanks in advance!

the evga has six cables  4 single cables and 2 double cables……

you can use 2 single cables and a double cable filling all 4 jacks.

Been there done that.

As for overclock  225 237 250 = overclock.
That is sort of the thing, 1300W psu to power 2 of these sucks! Is there a go-to power supply people have been using to power 2-3 2-4 of these things?

yeah but right now these overclock like shit.  So use 2 cables and power 3 with the evga

At this point if you're getting nothing at all out of that blade could be time to contact Bitmain.
You could DM them from this site or you could try contacting them on their webpage.
Right next to the shopping cart they have a "Mssages" pull down menu that you can use to contact them.

Good luck with your S3.

yeah but right now these overclock like shit.  So use 2 cables and power 3 with the evga

I've been wondering.  Is it really worth trying to OC these?  Is the risk worth the result?

By OCing you:

1 - void your warranty
2 - risk damaging your Ant
3 - use more electricity
4 - generate more heat
5 - need to use 2x the PSU cables

All for a measly increase in hashrate?

Not worth it at all, but some people just like to push it to the limit.

I guess it also depends on whether you want to milk the hardware down to every single last milihash worth before difficulty skyrockets, or be content with letting it run at stock hoping that hardware wouldn't break down prematurely.

Does anyone know what the UK Customs cost is for a Antminer s3?

I paid £61 per miner.  I believe this included UPS's 10 quid fee for fronting the VAT in the first place.

Thank you

Sorry about late reply. Had time limited post?

Big thanks to Bitmain!

Just wanted to thank Bitmain for keeping their promise and ensuring that the S3 is compatible with p2pool.

I've had 4x stock S3's hashing on p2pool for ~24 hours and have been achieving the expected hash rate.

You can see the 4 miners stats here: http://minefast.coincadence.com/miner.php?id=19vXrwKGUhK4cCU8tA4kWZgbChcmh9a6qj

Nice work Bitmain! Smiley
