i have to admin that i bought some XMR, in fact i bought double the number i keep in btc.
and i did it before this rally Smiley
what do you think about the price? where are we going ?

Many, including me, are still underwater and we do not intend to sell at loss nor even profits that represent peanuts.
I am personally willing to see how this saga ends.
Will I become a millionaire or will I continue poorer than I would be if I would not invested into this.

This describes me as well. My monero is not for sale. At least not at any price anywhere near what it is now.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

When it comes to altcoins I conceptualize value in terms of bitcoin. Bitcoin is my point of reference. So bitcoin.

Its funny people say bitcoin cant be considered money yet because its not a unit of account, but to many people who mess around in altcoins it definitely is a unit of account.

i'd say most of the people who are in bitcoin longterm (i bought my first at the first 30$ mark) realize its usefulness as a currency. i fear many people who got in later are not there yet.

i never sold a btc: but i spent some as it reached 1000$.

so - just as you - i value monero in btc and not in eur

...the team and community are working toward a viable monetary system,  and not just a get rich quick scheme.  Tongue

This.

Exactly. One should sit on a large chunk of their XMR as a long-term cyrpto 401k. Sure play the market with a few BTC worth and support the economy but think 5-10 years out.

Definetely with fiat I am underwater but also in terms of bitcoins.

I don't see XMR's price to BTC having much relevance, as BTC is hardly an established currency itself and has no stable purchasing power. The sooner we let go of the bitcoin dependency/correlation, the better.

More direct Fiat/XMR exchange would help move XMR out of the whole "altcoin" space into that of a more "independent" currency.

This.

Speaking of, there is currently a Tether USD to XMR market on Poloniex. I also noticed that Bitfinex supports Tether USD, and that they are Tether's current exchange partner. Given that I am based in the United States and in one of the states that the Tether beta themselves isn't currently supporting, they instruct such individuals like me to access Tether through Bitfinex. Assuming that I can actually jump through Bitfinex's KYC hoops, will it be possible to deposit USD from a checking account to Bitfinex, then convert it to Tether USD, and withdraw it to Poloniex to buy Moneroj? What are the fees involved if this path is, indeed, possible?

Contact https://www.litebit.eu/ and tell them to add XMR. They sell altcoins for fiat.

[Should be possible to get Monero added there. a) They have non Bitcoin codebases coins & b) there requirements for coins to be added seams to be low. As some small & uninnovative, are traded there.]

Ladies and gentlemen! Monero has now changed the trend.
We are now officially in the bull markets.
Monero did not change any trends (except its own). This is just the end of the correction of BTC. As much as I would like Monero to have this kind of influence, we still are in a BTC market (and that should last at least two more years). Good timing, that's all (and I have some private information that confims that this is "just" a lucky timing).

For information, some weeks ago (and no, this is not my private information):

Now it's about time to thank you the developers for taking us through the dark ages from approximately October 10th until now. Your determination to develop the coin voluntarily, when all it did pricewise was bring losses to everybody, is worth of the highest praise.

Coincidentally Crypto Kingdom was launched in 2014-10-10 and its Ancient era ended 2 days ago. While my concentration on CK may have brought short term damage to XMR price (assuming my effect is positive when I do open my mouth), now we have me back in business, and Crypto Kingdom is soon going online.

The future indeed looks bright and I doubt that even this short-term uptrend is over yet.

As HM The King, I establish the Order of Core Team in Crypto Kingdom. All the 7 core team members are awarded the Knight Commander rank, and they have the right to award Knight rank to whomever they wish.

Every Knight Commander also gets an engraved gold chalice weighing 200 gold + 800 gold free trading. (Gold is trading at 0.503 XMR currently, prior to its listing to Poloniex.)
The Blessing of Our Lord is upon you, Your Majesty.

There is no volume so it is a futile excersise. Why would you not buy with btc? How would you normally buy btc? Btw there is no real kyc for deposits to finex so wire transfer > finex > btc > xmr
