I sent myself a few GEMZ from an exchange to my Android wallet address. The exchange says the withdrawal is complete and I've waited for a while but nothing has arrived to the app on my phone. Any thoughts?

What's a while? Bitcoin blocks are about every 10 minutes. Also, I don't know how many confirms GetGems is expecting before they show it in your balance.

Do you have the bitcoin tx number from the exchange you can look on the block chain to see if it has been confirmed yet?

check http://blockscan.com/, put in the txs ID from the exchange. Sometimes it takes awhile with the counterparty blockchain.

Do you have the bitcoin tx number from the exchange you can look on the block chain to see if it has been confirmed yet?

Thanks, everything is in order, they arrived a few minutes after I posted. For future reference, I'd say it takes around 10 to 12 confirmations for them to appear. I guess I've just gotten used to faster transaction times over the past year.

We make it rain Gems regularly and make individual tips (O yes group payements is in the works!), you all can join our trollbox group. It's lots of fun and devs are involved aswell, we share ideas too. Just send me a message in GetGems and i'll add you, cheers.

Also we should build some activity on Poloniex chatbox and talk about Gemz it's gaining momentum.

I'm making a huge assumption but most of the buying seems to be during North American and maybe European daylight hours. I see very little during Asia/China typical trading times. So I was curious about the make up of the users. Are Chinese users able to download or are they blocked? Was a download ever provided for them or is it not planned? China is too important a market to ignore.

I just bought some Gems and I really like this idea.  Took me a while to get it.  One question though.  Why are Gems even necessary?  Why not just use Bitcoin? Thanks

在中国 Getgems 是无法下载的,因为 google play 是被屏蔽的,我们需要有其它的下载方式。

Translation

Getgems in China can not be downloaded because google play is blocked , we need to have another way to download .

http://www.newzoo.com/free/rankings/top-10-android-app-stores-china/

Don't know how the process goes, but obviously you need to know Chinese or maybe a company in the west that helps in submitting western app to chinese app stores.

this can be tricky. because the getgems invitation feature requires the use of GooglePlay and iOS Store. Of course, they can manually do it themselves by manually downloading the vpk file to install and then telling their friends to make sure to fill in exactly who invited them.

i suggest for now the quickest solution would be to provide a download link for the app file for both Android and iOS. so that they can manually install it. just a temp solution.
我希望开发团队能提供其它的下载方式

paging peled1986
i forgot to translate - yns1971 hopes the GEMS Team can provide a download link.
thanks

(Sorry I'm not signalling you out I just think now is a good time to mention some things that should be relevant to your question.)

I would say most people that look at Getgems don't understand what is so ground breaking and exciting about this app. Sure its a cool app, hopefully bring a lot of new crypto users,  people can send and receive coins and buy stuff in an easy way that a 5 year old could do...thats awesome BUT its the tip of the iceberg and isn't why I am so onto this project. In one word its all about the 'Attention' model.

What it means is those who want to contact users including advertisers have to pay in GEMS (thats why we have to have a token built into the app) So forget the token/coin thing for a second and realize what this means, it not only decentralises social media and potentially even the internet if Gems moved into search say but it decentralises the money involved. Instead of Zuckerberg controlling your info and also making money from it, you own the info and you also benefit from advertisers wanting to market to you personally. Basically cuts out the middleman so a direct advertisers to people connection. This is always going to be optional, you can choose not to receive gems and therefore directed advertising. Plus the model will likely work on your own preferences say a simple checklist that you are willing to receive adverts related to this subject or these are the interests I want products/services to connect to me. Plus Getgems has something 95% of crypto doesn't have and that is potential for intrinsic demand. i.e. Advertisers or users that want to connect to certain people/products/services etc have to buy Gems to do so.

So my point is Getgems potentially monetises social but for the user. Plus the flip side is if you want to connect to certain users then you also can, I can imagine early stages some stores that accept Gems/Bitcoin will want to use the network. Imagine even a famous person etc can give a price at which they can grant access to them, like only allowing fans who pay a small amount to connect, or maybe an indie filmmaker or artist who will only allow streaming of his content if people pay to access his profile....its a little silly but there are many applications where people are sick of unsolicited information and want to control what gets to them and what they want to connect to.

*The OP has lots of info and Q&A that will explain things better.

Daily airdrop contributions are proportional to the total amount of gems held.

Is the daily giveaway the airdrop and if so, do i need to move my gems from my counterparty wallet to the app wallet?

On a separate note, how will advertiser gems be distributed. Are they collected centrally and then distributed or is it all handled automatically if you opt in to view adds?

I think my question wasnt said correctly.  I totally understand the revolutionary implications of gems.  I was just wondering why the token itself was necessary and why not just use bitcoin for everything in the app?

The daily giveaway and the airdrop are different, daily giveaway you collect 1 Gem every 24hrs, the airdrop hasn't started yet. The Gems need to be in your app wallet to count for the air drop.

Not sure about the advertiser Gems.

I've heard Daniel Peled the CEO explain it clearly why you couldn't just use Bitcoin. My understanding is you got to have Gem tokens to be the blood circulating in the app. I mean firstly you're asking the team to devote all their time to an app that might end up giving very little rewards. the team also need to reward users for using the app initially and this again you couldn't expect the team to pay for. I don't know how well Bitcoin can be sent in comparison to Gems offline too, gems are instant. Just so you know an airdrop is a major part of the plan, maybe 25,000 will be shared among users for maybe 3 years. People will be rewarded based on how much they use the app, numbers invited etc and how much they own. I also like to think as I own Gems I am a shareholder in the app, if you look at the coins more as tokens then it's a better way to think of them. No one is saying like 99% of altcoins believe  that Gems is going to overtake Bitcoin anytime soon. Plus I personally believe this is the best chance Bitcoin has to reach the masses in a user friendly way. Think if this app gets millions of users then all those people will have a Bitcoin wallet In their hands suddenly.

Because it fits GetGems as a brand if you look at its name, color, features you would expect an in build currency system representing its name. Also it's needed for different reward value programs which is financially hard for a new start up if they would reward everyone in BTC. The power of Bitcoin enables devs to customize their project how they want, i guess also because the whole point is that user participation is translated into value so you need a coin that is exclusively earned through the app and not a coin that originated somewhere else.

Thanks guys, exactly what I wanted to hear.  Cheesy

One last question.  Is there an ETA on when the Airdrop is going to start?

Guess I'll be around here alot.  Its been a while since there was a project that I liked.

I don't know the ETA yet, but last news i have about it is that the team is testing the algorithm and making sure people don't cheat the system. I think it won't take long though, meanwhile they have introduced some legit features including the shop and the latest one is Julia which is very innovative and been added to Coinbase https://www.coinbase.com/apps/55aeb83f69702d2db5000056 (If you have a Coinbase account give Julia a try and rate it) also next update will have another heavy innovative feature which some users are testing now.

Anyone had issues with the iPhone 5c app freezing up.  I referred a couple girls.  They have the same phone.  One Girls Works Fine.  The other says it freezes when she goes to message the other girl.  She said when she hits the contacts page it also freezes.  I told her to try turning off I message and restarting doesn't seem to help?  I might be able to go there tomorrow and see exactly what's happening.
