Last I checked, this was the BITCOINtalk forum and you're in the BITCOIN mining section, so no, not sha256, but BITCOIN ONLY.

I think diff was around 600k when I first started mining (June 2011).

I just checked the diff at the time I first joined bitcointalk and started mining and it was 555k. ~1 million times less than it is today. My first miner was a 220MH GPU. I was earning about 40x what an avalon7 earns today with that hashrate.

Yep those were the days.  I just retired my mining turned gaming GPU's, 5830 and 5770, in the last couple weeks.  It was really sad putting them back in their boxes.  But they had a really good run of mining and then gaming, almost 6 years of service.

You can choose any algo from the drop down box. I have it set to sha256 and pointing at CK.

Some other currencies use the algorithm SHA256 and not just bitcoin. -ck meant that the pool only supports bitcoin mining, and won't work for other SHA256 currencies. There are also other currencies that use other algorithms like Litecoin, which uses Scrypt (again not supported by the pool).

I know Bitcoin has changed.  Unfortunately,  I feel for the worse.  I don't think the pioneers created bitcoin just for the rich and wealthy.  that's what fiat is for!  

As -ck said at one time Bitcoin was $3.  I was an avid overclocker back in 2010-11, so I would reformat my hard drives for running benchmarks.  at that time I had multiple 5870 cards.  2 for me 2 for my son.  I had 2 more 5870 just for hardware reviews for websites.  I remember reformatting a drive with at least 30-35 (maybe more) bitcoins.  Why?  It was different back then....they were $3-$5.  Do you have any idea how sick I've been since Nov 13?  That's why I pull for the little guys.  No offense to the big farms out there.

I only posted when I thought the (little guy) had hit a block.  Not knowing they hit multiples.  Let's see be happy for someone hitting their first....or a corp like Bitm...

If you still have the drive and haven't used it much it's possible you can do recovery.  Look into it.

Unfortunately recovery is expensive and if you give it to a company or even a douchebag friend they could take it for themselves and leave you with absolutely nothing. Chances are it's gone forever but it's worth trying yourself with just basic tools.

Coming at about the rate you'd expect for only 1.11PH... that hashrate will only find a block every ~24 days on average. Want to see blocks fall faster? Find a couple of hundred PH and mine here.

Great, enjoy! That size mining is purely for fun and luck. At ~600GH total as you have described you will find a block on average every 44000 days at current diff... and diff keeps rising so realistically never; only if you're extremely lucky.

On the other hand if you really want to earn some intermittent dust sized payments instead at that hashrate you will be able to put it on my new pool which will support very small miners when I start working on it in the near future, knowing that dust is basically unspendable at the moment but may be worth more and spendable in the future.

Being away allowed me to think a lot on how to best implement it to fill a niche that no other pool currently does - listening to what people have been saying in all the pool threads. It will be slightly different to every other pool out there and very low fee (0.5%) so hopefully that will be incentive for people to join, but it will be very no-frills just as this solo pool and aimed at miners of any size. The announcement thread will have a lot more details about how it differs from other pools. I need to spend some time coding up the new pool and will probably start a new thread some time in the next week or two advertising the pool when it is in testing/beta.

For those curious to try the new pool, the beta pool code is up and running. I have yet to set up the website stats etc. the way the solo pool does so for now if you wish to start mining there you will do so blind without any stats. I will endeavour to get stats up and running in the next couple of days and then will work on an announce in a separate thread. Being beta the pool may be unstable but so far it has proved working nicely, solving quite a few blocks on testnet with a host of different miners.

If you wish to try it, point your miners to:

As per the solo pool, you MUST use a valid bitcoin address as your username. The pool is ostensibly being called ckpool.org and for all intents and purposes, mining there will work identically as per the solo pool (apart from PPLNS type shared payouts).
