I know it is a complete gamble mining here. But what is a good indicator to know when to bring some rental power on board or the block is getting close?

Theres is never a clue as to when to pump rentals here for next block,  you just have to try your luck and pump all you can when you can and Lady Luck is on your side.
right now solo pool is at "diff": 112.0"  which means we are expected but not gauranteed.   nows a good time to pump a couple Ph

Hey CK, I'm using cgminer 3.7.2 with the gpu on my laptop but I just want to verify that its working and get some questions answered. Here is a screenshot https://imgur.com/a/Izw6B

1)Does this look right? It says I'm connected but my accepted shares is 0 and rejected is 8000. Is that ok, am I actually doing any work?

2)And my average hash rate is 19.05Kh/s which means about 19,000 hashes per second is that correct?

3)What about my best share, its been at 12.8k for over 12 hours now. In order to find a block the best share has to exceed the difficulty value which is 2.6T, so its very unlikely that my best share will ever do that but its technically possible right?

4) How would I know if I found a block and what happens after that? What is the process like for getting the reward in my wallet and then cashing it out to an actual bank account?

5)Also when I did the configuration I put in my electrum wallet address as the user but is there supposed to be .0 or .1 after it?

yes, you are connected and mining but not sure about the best share not being accepted by the pool since it is above the target of 4k. Could be that, since you're mining at such a low hashrate, the share was already stale when you found it. Also see my remark at the end of this post

You know when you see 12.5 btc appear in your wallet

only usefull if you have multiple machines mining so you can see the statistics per machine on the website

GPU mining btc is not feasible anymore. Theoretically it is possible to find a block with it but practically not. The big problem you are running into is probably working too long on the work given to you by the pool because of the slow hashrate so that it is outdated/stale by the time you find a share and send it back to the pool. I think you need at least one of the earliest asics, i.e. asicminer usb stick at 333 mHz, for it to work; still a very very very very low chance though.

If you're doing this for fun and to learn mining then fine but otherwise I would save your gpu and power.

Yea that makes sense. I know that I have very little computing power to the point where its not profitable but I'm kind of doing it as a lottery and to learn how to mine and maybe get an ASIC later.

I'm just using a laptop with a nvidia gtx 1050 4GB as a dedicated miner but I haven't heard the fans kick in at all nor has it warmed up hardly. I'd like to keep trying though and see if I can get some shares accepted.

How can I optimize the configuration, I basically just had the url my username and password and -I 9 but I started coming across things like thread concurrency and commands like this setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 but I don't know how to set the batch file up with those? Could you help me with that? I'll pay it forward if I continue mining.

Just stop doing it please as it has almost nothing in common with modern bitcoin mining so it doesn't even serve as a learning experience. You're wasting your time, power, and risking destroying your GPU, and non-asic miners aren't welcome here as you consume as many resources as a 1PH miner.

wow ok then, your web page for solockpool still states that its suitable for my purposes so maybe you should change that if you really don't want people like me using it. I understand I'm playing the lottery and I'm ok with that, I would just like to see it working and continue learning. I have learned a bit as an introduction regardless and just because I'm only using a GPU now doesn't mean its not a learning experience. I'm still learning how to configure aren't I.

I'm probably not giving up just yet and I'm not sure what you're talking about in terms of resources but I assume the idea behind a pool would be to have as much work being done as possible. So if you're not going to help people like me maybe you should specify that.

Totally incorrect, anyone starting in with bitcoin will start with an ASIC device, because that is the only relevant hardware for mining bitcoin.

I started with an antminer U3, and when I stopped mining I was using an avalon A6.  If you want to learn get yourself a $20 usb stick miner.

Or the pool stats do not have anything to do with the chance of finding. The chance of finding depends only on our hashrate and a lot of luck?
In the second case, our share has to be more than the difficulty to be more likely to find a block right?

No, there is no kind of guarantee that you will find or more likely to find a block after your submitted shares is greater than difficulty. You can only hit a block if your best share is greater than difficulty.

If you shares submitted is more than difficulty then you are starting to have a bad luck. If you hit before the difficulty then you have a good luck. Not sure how to define it better but this is how pooled mining determines luck. In solo mining it is not that relevant IMO

You can find the chances of pool by putting pool hashrate in solochance.com. Currently at 8.22PH hashrate , pool has a chance of finding a block in every 21 days.

And at current difficulty you can find a block per day at 170-180PH.

I have miner on the solo pool,  
I am using the ck proxy to connect I noticed a large number of stale shares.

The proxy host is in VM I have setup firewall rules to allow the connection but I see high share stales.

Is there something to improve this ping is very low between miner and VM and to pool?

Do you want to mine at this pool which is solo.ckpool.org which is for solo mining, or at ckpool.org which is for regular pooled mining? Either way, just use the same username for all the S9s - which has to be a valid bitcoin address, and it's up to you if you want to give them separate workernames or not. Eg:

btcaddress.3
btcaddress.4
