Someone gave me 3 free S4. Should I put them to use or just sell them?

Clean them up take picutes and list them all on ebay auctions.

If your electricity is cheap set all three up to mine underclocked 100 MHz 0.6 V they'll use half the power and give you 1TH each

mine until the day they sell

What voltage did you set to mine at 0.6V, the lowest I can set is 0.660V and I get like 0.70W/GHS from wall.

I never got anything worthwhile by frequency.  I sold mine long ago and at the time bought S5's with them.   The good news is them being all in one's they tend to hold value higher then they should.

But selling them long ago was best thing I could have done.  I have not seen a underclock that really makes them a game changer on efficiency.

The best I could get was 0.6W/GHS from the wall with the stock PSU.

In most cases you would be better off selling it and going with S7 wiith coupon and a PSU.  You will get at least twice as much efficiency maybe a tad more.   Also PSU can be used on many miners.

Only sad thing is I think S4 is last bitmain all in one.  But... I still say sell over keeping for sentimental.  And you can get much better efficiency.

Yeah but the miner is all paid for at least. So everyday it turns a profit instead of running an S7 for months to get ROI.

True but the longer you hold onto it the less it will be worth.  This is the problem I have with past gen miners.  At some point (unless free electricity) there is a time you make more by selling then you ever will by mining.

Due to my electrical price I sold all previous gen S5, Avalon 4.1, SP20.  I came out far ahead as I sold and bought BTC with it.   If I would have held.... I would have mined less and value goes down.  So make sure to do some math behind it as different for everyone.  But for me selling was the best option for getting most possible ROI.

For the S4, its already too late. They are not that much more efficient then an S3. It pretty much reached the bottom of the depreciation curve.

I could be wrong but I think it still can half again in value based on S2 value's.   If you go ebay with S4 currently ( I know riskier) but you likely can get 220-250 area.  If you look at S2's likely closer to 100.  So they will go down more.

And if you sell you could get around 1/2 of a S7.  I would rather have 1/2 of S7 or buy BTC with it then a S4 personally.  And if you can get 1/2 of S7 it is faster and more efficient.

But I would agree there is some time/effort in selling that can be a pain vs just mining it out.

Im getting the status tab with just "dashes" no X or O as it would normally show..any suggestions? Also a few of them suddenly stopped mining, rebooted, restore to factory, all fans working, temp is showing, but no hashing, any ideas? Thanks

Please try disconnecting 3 of the data cables from the control PCB and see if it would hash with 1 hash PCB connected to it.

If that works, please try with 2 data cables, and so on.  If this does let you hash partially, you may have an under performing PSU or one of the hash PCB is gone bad.

Another thought be upgrading the firmware to the newest version

Hi community,
After nearly 3 month of stable work with my S4, i have now a problem.

There was a fallout of electricity on saturday in Moscow region and after that my S4 started again but is running only on 1400Ghs...anyone know, what do ihave to check what's up with my S4?

How can i get em to full hashing rate ?

Look forward to have your help. Nice if there is somebody from Moscow out there...

Do you have a picture of the status screen by chance?   Sometimes we can tell a little from it depending on what it says.  And I now that is going to sound stupid but have you tried turning off/on with the switch on PSU?   Turning off/on can sometimes fix slow speed (depends on what the issue is).

Will do and not a problem!  On S4's I found sometimes they just needed a physical power off/on in certain situations.  So wishing you the best and that is all it needs.

Let us know how it turns out!

was at the office, cannot stay calm with such a problem (

As i turned out, the first chain is not working, shows just "-" (no "x" or "o").

Anyone an idea, what can i do ?

Tried several reboots, but no change!

It's just been a while since I have messed with S4's due to my electricity price so keep that in mind.  If anyone has messed with one recently please step in.

There is a board diagnostics on their site - https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203361315-Board-Diagnostics .  Do it with the S4 unplugged for safety and check the connections.  The thing I don't like about yours is seeing "----"

If that does not work personally I would back-up S4 sd card (as I am more cautious then most).  And try reflashing firmware and see if any change.   And the backup is so you can go back to previous.

I am thankful for any hint!

The board diagnostics seems to show how to identify a bad chain.
In my case it looks like there is no connection between the controller and chain 1.

Does this mean the hashing board is bad ? Or just connection lost ?
Probably a bad cable ?

I picked up a used S4 last week and its been working great except for 2 of the 4 fans being out.  Biggie i'm sure.  I ordered replacements and they will be here thursday.  Today was the first time it decided to shut off on me.  I looked on my pool site and saw it was offline and then went to the ip address and saw it was offline as well.  I checked on the unit and pressed the power button and it came back on fine, booted up, and is mining away.  I don't know what could be wrong, prob heat though.  I've been keeping a room air conditioner on it since i found out about the two fans (one in the back and one in the front (opposite side) not working).  I'm not out a bunch of money on this if its not recoverable, just curious if anyone has an idea.

i did a screenshot of the temps and status
