If you have the HD seed you should be able to recover the wallet by importing it into supported wallets like Electrum but how did you get the HD seed? Since BitcoinQT/Bitcoin core doesn't generate a seed I'm sure it was not from this wallet.

About simple backup you don't need to activate anything, If you talking about Bitcoin core then copying the wallet.dat file is enough but make sure you turn Bitcoin core and Bitcoind off because if you copy the wallet.dat file while these two are running there is a big chance that the backup wallet you just made may become corrupted. Well, based on my old experience using Coinbase their exchange and wallet are buggy I deposited some Bitcoin before but it didn't show in my wallet but on explorer, it was already confirmed I contacted them to fix but it took a week before they solved my issue not only once but 3 times I stop using them even I have few BTC on my vault unlike Binance until now I never had any issue yet and I only use it to exchange, withdraw, and trade small amount.
