1401  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series Specs Revealed in Leak on: March 05, 2012, 05:46:42 PM
Looks like some numbers were off.

Thanks for the updated data.  I updated my stats above.
Code:
7750	108%
7770 124% <-stud ?
7850 102%
7870 106%
7890 ??
7950 92% <- dud ?
7970 100%
7990 ??

The results look more in line with what one would expect now.  On paper, really no standouts over the 7970 other than the 7770.  Even that seems dubious.  6x7770s would be = ~2x 7970s.  Sure you save a few dollars but density per server is going to be low.

So IMHO if you want to hash w/ 7000 series your options are:
a) get 7970 seems pretty safe bet at this point
b) wait for 7990.
c) wait to see if any of the smaller cards is an "overclocking champ".

Thanks for the insight D&T.

Your posts are always pure gold Grin

Which card is best in terms of MHash/$ and density ?

Waiting for 7990 or 7890 ...
1402  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series Specs Revealed in Leak on: March 05, 2012, 09:58:35 AM
Someone needs to post BTC numbers.

I doubt it getting more than 230 MHash/s though.

Proove me wrong.
1403  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Unofficial "High MHash"/"Best Settings" GPU Comparision Thread on: March 05, 2012, 09:44:40 AM
Thanks for making this thread BinaryMage. This is exactly what I was looking for, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=62071.msg743905#msg743905 , results that could be trusted to teach n00b5 like me some OC 5k1llz. Cheesy
I don't trust that wiki, if there are too few results it's impossible for new people, like when I first started reading, to determine credible results. Instead of teaching skills they could be teaching kills, which is not so good. At least someone with a little more knowledge has taken on the task for safe guiding ideas.

Not relevant.

Each GPU performs differently.

One may do 1000 without voltage increase and another ( of same model ) might only do 800 on stock volts ...

YMMV
1404  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Need Help With ASRock A75 Extreme6 on: March 05, 2012, 09:43:19 AM
Thanks so much I will give that a try tomorrow and let you know how it works. What gauge wire do you recommend for the jumper wire?

Doesn't matter at all. There is little current passing through that.
1405  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Only 900MHz with stock voltage on a 5850? on: March 05, 2012, 09:39:08 AM
I have 4 5850s that I am lucky to overclock past 825 without crashing anymore, of course, this is after a year of mining them at 850-900. I don't know why the degradation, but it is certainly noticeable.

Look up electromigration.

High voltages + temps = reduced OC ability over time.
1406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer - UPDATED FEB 28 on: March 05, 2012, 12:01:23 AM
Is there a hardware wiki where we can put this information for LTC ?

https://github.com/coblee/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison

Most of the information seems outdated, so new benchmarks are very welcome.
Please, always specify the miner version.

Miner is your latest Intel optimized miner 2.1.4 Grin

I always told them that Intel would own those silly Phenoms.

A 2600K at 4.7 GHz does ~48 khash/s. No AMD can come close to that.

Thanks again pooler for bringing equality to CPU mining !

To summarize :

Intel U2500 = 1.86 khash/s ( Linux 32 )
Intel 2600K = 48 khash/s ( W7 64 )
Intel E8500 = 9 khash/s ( XP 32 )
Intel P8400 = 10.3 khash/s ( not bad ! W7 64 )

Anyone get any better results Huh
1407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer - UPDATED FEB 28 on: March 04, 2012, 11:01:46 PM
Just for the fun of it :

Intel U2500 processors ( does not even support 64 bits ! ) doing 0.93 on each thread so 1.85-1.86 khash/s in total

LOL. Running on a Dell D420 laptop with custom cooling solution. Max temps are about 70 degrees. Not bad considering on Skype before the custom mod it was 78 !

Is there a hardware wiki where we can put this information for LTC ?

Any better miner than this one of Intel CPUs ?

Thanks !
1408  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PCI-E 1-to-7 extension card, anyone tried? on: March 04, 2012, 07:18:40 PM
The batch I ordered in had issues with one or more of the components. So my new eta on hardware is the end of next week.

There'll be pics etc as soon as they land here  Grin

I can't wait for the detailed pictures.

Thanks so much Bigpiggy01 !!!

This may be really useful for me in the future.

How much to ship to UK ( duties Huh )
1409  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LinuxCoin A lightweight Debian based OS with everything ready to go. on: March 04, 2012, 01:17:58 PM
BTW I flashed the board bios to latest version and still no dice. i did end up having a bad 5970 though, so maybe that was the issue all along.

Anyway, windows for me, rigs are more stable and I am WAY more familiar. plus I have plenty of licenses, so no cost there.

Yeah. Pretty strange all of these people having tons of licenses for free ...

Yochdog also had it "for free".

Maybe you guys work for Micro$oft and that is why you are pushing Windblows and have so many "free" licenses.

Linuxcoin still is nice but needs to be updated and supported like BAMT.

1410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solid Coin Problem on: March 04, 2012, 12:54:52 AM
thanks to most for some great replies and not bashing me for honest questions. i really am wanting to see the truth behind SolidCoin.

regarding it not being open-source, i would TOTALLY AGREE that any such system must be open source. but it seems to me that it *is* open source: i see the site has their open source posted at this page:
http://solidcoin.info/downloads.html

i downloaded the zip and it has several code files in it. i did not even try to compile it as i'm not even on a puter that has Visual Studio installed. (i'm a windows programmer [my appologies Wink ] and c# is my specialty, but i'm familiar with c++ too.) so my point is at first glance, it appears that the source code is released. for those saying it's not open source, do you have a response to that?

i agree that he has a hot-head attitude tho. that shows a lack of professionality about him tho. i give that negative aspect too.

and thanks for that post to where he asked how many coins should be pre-mined. it was quite hillarious! Smiley

but about pre-mined coins, in the explanation at the solidcoin site, it explains that premined coins cannot be spent like normal coins. i have to give him/them/SC credit, that it's a good idea. (i think brilliant to overcome the 51% 'danger' that other cryptocoins face.) but i also admit that i only half understand stated solution as to how those premined coined and 'trusted nodes' actually keep the network safe from a powerful attacker. but i'm pointing out that SC claims those coins cannot be spent as regular coins.

and yeah, when i took a second look at difficulties, i found SC difficulties to be very low with as mentioned, hardly any miners. but in response to it not being worth the electricity to mine them, neither is BitCoins worth mining.

This is the LAMEST fake "Broken English" I've seen in a while. Nice try Coinhunter but this laughable.

Someone who spekas broken English doesn't get sentence structure correct or use words in the proper order. The proper use of conjunctions is a dead give away.

This is a Solidcoin sockie...it's blatantly obvious.

~BCX~

YOU are a ScamCoin sockpuppet.

The amount of PR you create for SC is unbelievable.

Let it die already.

Stop stirring up the pile of BS that is SC and the problem will sort itself out.

But no, you are going to endlessly cause controversy all day on here just like the little puppy CH / RS trained you to be.

How much SoiledCons do you get per troll post ?

You holding stolen coins from Linode hacks Huh

Not good if true ...

Was there anything left of the 37 BTC and BTC that Goat donated ?

Maybe give some to legolouman for managing this issue and donate it to P2Pool or give back to generous people ( Raize & probably Goat ) Huh

Thanks Raize, legolouman and Goat !

I suggest having a game with prizes.

It's called "The Hunt for DoubleIcaras"

What is the story behind this ?

Did he disappear with the Bitcoin London activity thing Huh
1415  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: blowfan took apart on: March 03, 2012, 04:19:39 PM
I dont understand how people can pop the fan part off of the metal and electrical parts like nothing. I broke 2 blower fans at the part that joins the triangle plastic thing to the PCB (actually, just before it, it leaves a circle piece of plastic left in the PCB part)

Same here.

I once tried to take this fan apart and I could not pull it off with all my force.

Maybe the 3 screwdriver trick can do it ( but I have not tried that myself ) Huh

1417  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ZTEX USB-FPGA Module 1.15x: 210 MH/s FPGA Board on: March 02, 2012, 06:48:56 PM
Quote from: catfish
My entire network is run by my Mac Mini Server, and due to the timing and prices of *good* SSDs when I bought it (the SandForce controllers hadn't been brought out, neither the Crucial series, and the OCZ Vertex was the only performance alternative but the chipset was developed by a small, little-known firm, Indilinx IIRC), it has two Intel X25-M SSDs in RAID-0. Running a main server on 'suicide RAID' would make most sysadmins foam at the mouth, but it's different with SSDs, since their failure mode is read-only. If the SSD dies, then you can still read your data off the broken RAID and copy onto new drives. And besides, we're all backing up our servers aren't we?
Not really related to FPGA but here goes :

That is total BS mate. You need to do some research.

The main thing that dies in current SSDs is the actual controller.

Also, endurance of the NAND ( how much charge remains in the NAND cells without them being powered ) decreases as you go through the P/E cycles.

This means that if you "burn" through the cycles ( often 5000 or 3000 for 34nm and 25nm NAND ) and keep the drives powered off for like a week then no data can be recovered at all as the cells lose their charge.

The read-only SSD death is a total myth AFAIK.

When it dies, it dies.

They are ramping up production and refining the process... I would say 4 - 6 weeks is more likely than it was before.

Are you now the official BFL PR guy ?

On another note, any more folks from the UK ordered theirs and got any information about customs or VAT or taxes that have to be paid to her majesty Tongue ?

Or maybe about that rumor with the Frankfurt EU resellers Huh

Thanks !
1419  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: should i make rigs or just buy this on: March 02, 2012, 06:25:45 PM
Rig Box either way im gt spend 30k
Invest 30k into some companies on GLBSE and then once the rig box is closer, you can sell some shares and buy one.  This way you can help out the economy while you wait.

GLBSE?  There are bitcoin companies you can invest 30K into?

There are also Nigerian princesses you can invest 5k into Wink

Anyone that messes with BFL or GLBSE should be very careful, IMHO.

You can get burned easily.

Read some computer books because your knowledge about OSes sucks.
