17421  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to deal with stress? on: January 08, 2014, 12:11:07 PM
Exercise is very good for your mental health, but obviously it can be hard to motivate yourself to do it if you're getting bogged down and stressed/depressed etc so it becomes a vicious circle.

Some sports can also be a good at releasing stress and anger. Try football or tennis or anything where you can kick or hit something hard (edit: don't use this as an excuse to hit your wife/gf) Grin .
17422  Other / Off-topic / Re: Thinking about naming my baby girl Whore.. (due in 3 weeks) on: January 08, 2014, 12:06:04 PM
Pretty sure the doctor will refuse to sign the birth certificate. ie, you probably can't name your baby, "whore"

Really? Is there some law dictating what baby names are acceptable? Smiley

Yeah, in some countries you can't name your kids certain things, and in others, the doctors just wont sign the birth certificate if you want to name you kid tinfoil or hitler or something like that. Portugal has really interesting name bans, like Tom.

This is true in some places. One of my Mum's pleb cousins wanted to name her kid C.J. but they wouldn’t let her have just the initials, so she named him Ceejay. Such shame.

And why will they not allow Tom? That's weird.

This is a libertarian type forum. The main idea of it's management is the least possible interaction in other's people affairs. So get used to it.

But that doesn't have to mean complete lawlessness.
Here where the decentralization aspect comes in - the community should cope with and police it by themselves.

True and I agree, but as with 'policing' disputes etc, this also sometimes doesn't work out or isn't enough.
17424  Other / Meta / Re: Account hijacked, please help on: January 08, 2014, 11:58:46 AM

Hello everyone,

My first account has just been hijacked.
Any chances for a recovery? Mods, admins, help Huh

Milan77 here.

A big question to ask here, is do you know how it was hacked, because u have a leak of information somewhere that needs plugging.
It might be best to clean house and change up to make sure you dont lose anything accounts on different sites.

That's a point. I assumed it was being abused to try scam people or post, but no posts have been made since: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=60217;sa=showPosts

17425  Other / Meta / Re: Unread posts since last visit on: January 08, 2014, 11:54:58 AM
I used to just click Show unread posts since last visit but now that has become overrun with scamcoin announcements and it's hard to pick out interesting things. Is there a way to block certain categories from showing up?

You can ignore the altcoin boards. There's one or two other threads about this in meta somewhere.

Edit: There's one.

How low do you guys speculate the price of btc will drop before reaching something relatively stable? Will it never stop? All this negative attention towards the crypto currency is the reason for the panic selling more specifically, ( http://www.coindesk.com/chinas-ebay-bans-bitcoins-and-mining-gear/ ) and ( http://www.coindesk.com/german-central-bank-official-issues-another-bitcoin-warning/ ). All i wish is that everyone could see the potential and have some faith, also a little more good publicity would be nice too.  Grin

People are fickle and stupid, hence why they Panic sell. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but these fools wont listen.

Why is says that my IP already posted something?

Log-in, searches and attempted searches count. You need to wait 6 minutes after each of these whilst you're a newbie.
17429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exactly how many posts are needed in order to be able to comment on other's post on: January 08, 2014, 11:36:17 AM
BTC Greetings to all fellow users, noobs and respected admins and mods. I am new to this forum, as I came to know that I must roam here for few hours alongwith some posting, the next question which comes to my mind is How many posts I have to write, I mean can anyone help me with the exact number? btw, this is my first one, and I gained interest towards this forum by searching and landing at Coinad related post, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=66851.0

Thank you all.

You just need to wait four hours now. Details are in the newbie readme and there when you sign up.
17430  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So many AltCoins on: January 08, 2014, 11:35:26 AM
I am really curious what peoples obsession is with all these crazy alt-coin names..
Do you think the name of the coin has anything to do with whether it will succeed or not based on first impression? If you saw an alt-coin with a weird name would you really want to invest in it, or would you stick with something more pleasing to the ear/roll of the tongue?  If you look throughout history, the name of anything has never really played a huge role in whether something worked or not..  When it comes to a type of money though it does make me wonder if some of the crazier names will even last.  Right now as it seems any coin could rule them all though.

Personally I like the top 3 in my opinion, bitcoin/litecoin/feathercoin but there are some other interesting ones out there but I personally think these will be around a lot longer than some of the other named coins and not just because of the name but because of how the coin itself was designed.

So my question to you is what are your fav alt-coin(s) and why?

Unfortunately the name does sometimes matter and is just down to gimmick and jumping on free publicity. That's why Dogecoin and Coinye West work. People are fickle, but these coins are just flash-in-the-pans and never last long.

And those are also my favourite three coins in order  Grin.
17431  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: question about backing up and securing bitcoin qt wallet on: January 08, 2014, 11:32:52 AM
Also interested in this question.  If I have my wallet on my home pc, is it possible to mirror it on an android device.  Or do I need to backup, create new wallet on my phone, then stop using my pc wallet till I transfer the updated version of my phone wallet (assuming I used it and it now has a different total.

I'm not sure about your situation, but you can do it with an online blockchain wallet and an Iphone ap.
17432  Other / Meta / Re: Account hijacked, please help on: January 08, 2014, 11:27:17 AM
I did, still no reply Sad

Theymos is probably pretty busy and I'm sure he gets tons of PMs daily, so as much as it's a shitty/urgent situation, I think you'll have to wait it out, or maybe try contact another mod and see what the sitch is?

There is no way back. Money is gone. You have to deal with it. this is why i don't like this crypto currencies. is some one steal you there is no back and no refunds like on paypal when someone screw you.

What money? He's on about his forum account here.
17433  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello on: January 08, 2014, 11:22:15 AM
Hi everyone, I'm very intrested in the altcoin and think it will have a bright future. I want to join this community with everybody.

Cheers!

Which altcoin(s)? Many and most are flashes in the pan, but you can make a little off some if you get in early. Most die off relatively quickly though, so you don't want to get caught holding the bag when this happens.

17435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So I'm currently trying to mine my cpu on my laptop. on: January 08, 2014, 11:19:12 AM
You'll get next to nothing mining on a laptop. It's really not worth it. If you must, try out mining with some of the newer altcoins.
17436  Other / Off-topic / Re: Waitress with QR on shirt for tips! - Bronx deli on: January 08, 2014, 11:17:22 AM
Great idea and glad to see it, but the cynic in me think people only do this stuff to get donations from Reddit haha, but I guess it works either way.
17437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Told you so, OverStock.com pushed price of Bitcoin over $1000 on: January 08, 2014, 11:15:46 AM
Are people going to spend their bitcoins on shopping when their value continues to rise?

It doesn't always rise; sometimes it crashes. If you bought Bitcoins early then maybe it's a good idea to get some physical goods for next to nothing.
17438  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Site timer broken? on: January 08, 2014, 11:14:21 AM
What browser are you using  ?
Doesn't seem broke to me.

It doesn't continually count time logged in. Make a note of your time, leave you browser open and don't do anything and come back later and see how much it's gone up.
17439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best place to buy litecoin in the uk ? on: January 08, 2014, 11:12:36 AM
A little bit late, but Litecoins are now available on Bittylicious. You can select this as your default virtual currency by going to https://bittylicious.com/coin/LTC

Oh, that is good news. Big fan of Bitty. I recommend it if you're in the UK and want BTC & FTC quickly and easy.
17440  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Stuck Syncing at 2-3 hrs on: January 08, 2014, 11:09:12 AM
Hey guys,

I downloaded the bitcoin program about a week ago and it synced up to 3 hrs in a couple days.  In the past 4 days its been switching between 2 and 3 hours, back and forth and won't proceed any further than that.  I checked the firewall and that is good.  I tried re installing and it is still stuck at 3 hrs.  I have 8 active connections.  I looked into the router but don't know how to determine if that is blocking anything.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to finish syncing?

Thanks,
Levi

Which wallet and from what source did you download it from?
