2081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would Bitcoin recover even if it fell to one dollar? on: July 15, 2022, 11:59:28 AM
Long story short, let's look at a chart

2082  Other / Meta / Re: Profile Rank and Merit Relationship on: July 15, 2022, 11:50:10 AM
I have observed that some members on the platform have up to 3,000+ Merits and some have just none
There are answers above for you but I'd like to help you another tip
  • If you visit a board and have question(s) for things in that board, let's scroll up and see sticky threads at top. You will find most important information, rules for that board.
  • A collective thread on sticky threads [Bitcointalk sticky threads] Newbies - read before starting. That thread was last updated 2 years ago so make sure you do first tip always.
2083  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pictures on users profile? on: July 14, 2022, 01:22:12 PM
If you don't want to be doxed, let's avoid uploading your personal photos on this forum or on any site when you're using Internet.

You can not erase it completely as that site has data backup as well as many scrapper and archives can work and catch your photo. In this forum, it's hard to see people using their real identity, real personal photos. I don't know anyone uses personal photo here but of course, the forum has about 3.5 million users and I can miss some cases.

Anyway, it is not recommendable to upload personal photo for your user avatar. Many drama about doxing attacks.
2084  Other / Meta / Re: How to post images?? on: July 14, 2022, 01:12:49 PM
Now, you ranked up to Jr. member and can post images, without need to buy the Copper Membership.

Some websites for image uploading

A newest site I know today: https://vgy.me/
Additionally, there are some tricks to add images via BBcode in the forum.
2085  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1BTC (69,000 loaves) ≠ 1BTC (20,000 loaves) if Bitcoin is a currency on: July 14, 2022, 07:43:21 AM
Indeed, this 1BTC = 1BTC is pretty much similar to "unrealized loss is not loss" (unless you sell).
You should say both that 1 BTC = 1 BTC is similar to either
  • Unrealized profit is not profit
  • Unrealized loss is not loss
If anyone says buying Bitcoin only because of fun, it can be true if it is a trial purchase with very small amount.
If the purchase is big enough, it is not for fun, but for profit. So if it relates to profit motivation, the buyer will have plan to take profit. Just when.

Loss is a loss and even you don't sell your Bitcoin, you still have a loss temporarily. Fortunately, in history, Bitcoin always makes new all time high with each halving and a new bull run.
  • Bitcoin profitable days
  • HODL camp
  • From these charts, 87%+ of holding days are profitable and you won't get loss if you hold Bitcoin more than 4 years, 6 months and 21 days.
2086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: James Webb & Bitcoin/ Sending bitcoins to the first alien on: July 14, 2022, 07:29:37 AM
Bitcoin: Bitcoin is not a physical thing, we can send it in space. Imagine, we will teach them blockchain technology and then exchange information. We can also use Bitcoin to pay them. Just get the wallet address of an alien and send them your bitcoin!
Bitcoin is created by Proof of Work mining but it is an encrypted currency so from its mnemonic seed or private key, you have many methods to own your coins
  • Paper
  • Metal/ steel sheet/ plate
  • Digital file
  • Backup software
  • Safe vault
  • and so many more methods
So you can either send information for ownership of a Bitcoin wallet (in Bitcoin inside) into space by many types above, both digitally and physically.
2087  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can all (or most) cryptocurrencies rise and fall at the same time? on: July 14, 2022, 07:23:19 AM
Many conditions to trigger the market moving upward or downward

  • Crypto market is only a component of a bigger thing, a whole globalized world with more markets (stock, real estate, energy, etc.) that can be affected by politics, geo-political conflict, crisis, energy crisis, war, etc.
  • If a whole world is in trouble from pandemic, war, recession, crypto market will be affected in particular
  • Inside crypto market, Bitcoin is a leader of the trend. If Bitcoin has a bull run, a crypto market will follow it and vice versa.
  • There are always exceptions that barely move oppositely with a general trend like in past few weeks we are witnessing pumps of low-cap, shit coins.
2088  Other / Meta / Re: Raw Thai Honey for Bitcoins, another classic just after Bitcoin Pizza trade! on: July 14, 2022, 07:16:36 AM
What your memory seems to lack is that it was later admitted that Goat AKA El Cabron was a con artist that was just launching fictitious companies on the GLBSE (exchange) in order to raise funds to funnel into pirate@40's ponzi scheme.
My memory recalls me for another thing, not about historic scam in the forum.

2090  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bad for btc and crypto generally usa nuclear attack on: July 12, 2022, 01:02:11 PM
This is serious most of the data centers who run exchangers are in usa.
Exchangers do their business and what we do care about is Bitcoin network. Fortunately, Bitcoin is decentralized and many nodes around the world so even if all nodes in the USA are broken by nuclear attack ie. Bitcoin network will still be fine. Blockchain data is safe and stored in other nodes.

Quote
And the btc and crypto might not even come back anymore off course if usa have not sent their data to cloud or offshore servers all ready.
Btc is in danger thats for sure
If a nuclear war happens, the whole world will be in serious crisis, not only crypto or Bitcoin market. Don't talk about Bitcoin only in that scenario.

I don't discuss about nuclear war because it will be like the end of human civilization. I would like to discuss about any other reason that causes all nodes in one country are disabled. Bitcoin network will be able to adjust its difficulty after each 2016 block (that is around 14 days). After a few difficult retargets, network will be able to run normally again. No worry.
2091  Other / Meta / Raw Thai Honey for Bitcoins, another classic just after Bitcoin Pizza trade! on: July 12, 2022, 12:04:31 PM
It does not fit in the meta at all. Bitcoin discussion is the best fit for it.
It depends on how you see it but in my opinion, it fits in both boards. Fits in Meta because it relates to donation and fits in Bitcoin discussion because it relates to very first exchange of Bitcoin for physical thing (raw Thai honey).

Quote
The trend for everything is to find who is first. Pizza for bitcoin was the first bitcoin in exchange of physical item. Another fact to be noted that Pizza for bitcoins happened in the May 2010 when bitcoin has no name, a new thing, value was almost $0. But El Cabron had his listing after around two years from that time.
I know the first is the hardest thing but these trades of El Cabron are still one of earliest classic trades of Bitcoin. Especially it was initiated on Bitcointalk forum that is made by satoshi, the founder of Bitcoin.

Quote
By then Bitcoin was fairly known to a bigger circle.
By this growth and bigger circle, its value is higher.
2092  Other / Meta / Re: differences in online crypto communities on: July 12, 2022, 11:58:54 AM
Maybe I am stupid to learn new things but honestly I get f*cked on Reddit as I don't understand how it works. Initially, I think karma is something like merit but how it is rewarded or decayed/ deducted is what I can't understand. I spent a little time to check how people got Karma and shocked that many Karma earned from funny posts, shit posts then I stopped using Reddit.

I joined two other cryptocurrency forums: bitcoingarden and cryptotalk (when they run a signature campaign here that made me curious) but honestly, those forums have very low quality. I can not find knowledgeable members like on Bitcointalk.

Twitter is funny and I have my Twitter account, but only for work. Indeed, my account is mostly inactive.

In short, most of my online time is on this forum and Telegram (for my moderation job).
2093  Other / Meta / Raw Thai Honey for Bitcoins, another classic just after Bitcoin Pizza trade! on: July 12, 2022, 06:34:33 AM
Today by an coincidence, I remembered of something, noticed something and after checking, I found a surprising event from the past.

I know many members in this forum and around the world should know of Bitcoin Pizza Day. That started in this forum
Two years later, another member (VIP), El Cabron made another classic trade offer.

Message:
  • Use case and utility of Bitcoin increase with time. That means its value increases a lot.
  • Such deals are classic and shocking in the past but now, if you make such one, it is very normal.

A random dig in to the past of forum and Bitcoin.  Cheesy

I don't know Meta or Bitcoin discussion is a best board for this topic. I see both fits with the content. For now, I leave it in Meta.
2094  Other / Meta / Re: [Merit] Legendary To Newbies Distribution Concern & Problem! on: July 11, 2022, 04:07:37 PM
Even so, for the sake of seeing the magnitude of the effect:

The Merit Dashboard shows an all-time historical (more prone to Rank distortion) aggregate of:
Legendary-> Legendary: 538.953 (58,05%)
Legendary->Newbie: 33.230 (3,58%)

From the 01/07/2022 until the 08/07/2022 (small Rank distortion):
L-> L: 3042 (56,68%)
L->N: 223 (4,16%)

Percentages are more or less in the same magnitude.
Yeah minor changes as I expected. In a whole picture, things don't change much (minor ones) but in local pictures, there are. However, if a whole picture is good enough, the forum is fine.

  • Personally, I don't expect to see any big change with such things.
  • Generally, the overall distribution of merit between members and member ranks won't change much
2095  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any resources to properly understand Bitcoin protocol? on: July 11, 2022, 04:02:43 PM
First i used to learn from bitcoin on bitcoin.org website.
Code:
https://bitcoin.org/
If you recommend bitcoin.org, you should recommend

2096  Other / Meta / Re: Merit source observations on: July 11, 2022, 03:55:10 PM
It has been almost one year since last merit source shuffle.
The silence of merit shuffle is one of reasons I did not regularly visit merit source page as I often did before the latest reshuffle wave.

Quote
Wondering if we will have another adjustment on July 17th, the date of the first anniversary.
I guess not. If something happens, it would be very minor or small changes in current merit sources and / or adding very little new merit sources. As I recall, there are very little merit source applications recent months.

I think that situation merit wise is pretty good and much better compared to year ago when theymos introduced new merit sources and removed the inactive ones. For example, last month 26,486 merits were shared which is a ~100% increase compared to year ago (June 2021) during which only 13,286 merits were shared.
theymos has many criteria and total distributed merit per month by all merit sources to consider and make any changes for merit sources and monthly smerit allocations for them. Such as
  • Distribution changes in local boards or local threads.
  • Ratio of total merited posts/ total posts monthly
  • Rate of merit per merited posts in general and over boards
  • And more

After 5 years here, should I apply to be a merit source and join the gang  Cheesy
2097  Other / Meta / Re: Merit source observations on: July 11, 2022, 02:07:00 PM
1 year and I come back.
  • Honestly, I did not check merit sources page in many months
  • So I don't know when the latest change was made
  • But the update is, currently "there are 110 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 33989 sMerit per 30 days"
  • It is minor change compares to 1 year ago, in July 2021. I guess 1 merit source was removed.
2098  Other / Meta / Re: [Merit] Legendary To Newbies Distribution Concern & Problem! on: July 11, 2022, 02:01:06 PM
Lowering some standards doesn't necessarily entail meriting bad posts; rather, it just means that you shouldn't evaluate new posts in the same manner as legendary ones. Various knowledge levels are present.
You did not understand about history of merit system and what I meant.

In the past, very different context
  • There are less merit sources than now and less total monthly smerit allocation for merit sources. Let's check.
  • Rule of supply, as you have more, you distribute more and lowering your standard.
  • As @Welsh mentioned, there are context and conditions, if you don't include them in your analysis, results will be distorted and readers will misunderstand your message (or even you write it not correctly) not correct enough.
    • Example: assume total merit distribution from Legendary members to Newbies members increases 50% in August. Do you conclude that Legendary members suddenly have more love for newbies.
    • It might be or might be not. If total smerit for merit sources increase 50%, that can be a real reason, not increase of love at all.
2099  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why exchangers derivates and futures dont have other then USDT ? on: July 11, 2022, 01:28:40 PM
I'm guessing that Binance went with USDT than with USDC simply because USDT has a lot more liquidity compared to USDC.

Trading volume in the last 24 hrs as per CoinGecko:

^Can't expect this to be super accurate but it's clear that USDT has far more volume.
Direct link to check with Stable coins category on Coingecko

If anyone wants to see a comparison of trading volume growth amongst some stablecoins, let's check

From Coingecko's stats, BUSD from Binance is at third position and is a little bit less than USDC. It is a significant achievement for Binance and BUSD if you know other exchanges mostly don't support BUSD. They want to fight seriously against Binance.

It's very hard to get trading pairs for altcoin/ BUSD on non-Binance exchanges.
2100  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk's Hall of fame on: July 11, 2022, 01:13:27 PM
Recently, the topic of Lauda's termination (Goodbye world!) has been warmed up again that combines with some scam accusation I read, I suddenly remember about ICOEthics

The user was one of the most actively and best scam fighters in the past and has a website. Suddenly, since July 2019, turned to inactively and never come back.

Anyone knows what happened with ICOEthics, please share!

In addition, I think the 3 years unresponsive is enough to put the user into the Bitcointalk's Hall of fame. Obviously I wish that the user is still fine in real life.
