2141  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 12, 2022, 09:18:07 PM

Yes, we have discussed as to who is going to take the leading position. But those guys doesn't have the same mentality of the big 3 or 4 way back. I mean if Medvedev becomes the number 1 he should at least won many tournaments by now. But it didn't happen and then Alcaraz took over, and so all eyes are on him, if he can maintain his position and lead the new pack or will he melt out under pressure from fans and background noises from behind. We have seen him lost to a relatively unknown player and that could not be a good sign, in my opinion. Consistency is the key here.

In my eyes there is way too much focus on the smaller tournaments. In the end, there is only one thing that's matters in tennis and that are the grand slams. So who cares that Alcaraz lost against an unknown player in a (smaller) tournament; even Federer/Nadal/Djokovic have lost matches against unknown players.

Hmmm that's a big statement. Yea the Grand Slams are what they are, there are only
4 annually, they pay the biggest prize money and are very prestigious but the lesser
tournaments have their part to play too. Some are more important to different players
for various reasons, that's why they keep showing up trying to win them.

2143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is an economic recession bearish for the market? on: October 12, 2022, 03:00:37 PM
Bitcoin will see increased prices as soon as we start recovering from the recession. Others have touched upon it, but during the very start of a recession, everyone is filled with panic, and due to the drastic changes are usually worried about putting food on the table, let alone investing in a newish cryptocurrency.

So, basically buying power goes down, which results in less coins being moved. Exactly what happens with fiat systems when the market crashes. People don't have the money or the will to spend their money, which results in businesses feeling the pinch. It ultimately takes time, and adjustments by the people, and governments to mitigate the effects. Once we start to recover from the recession a little bit, that's when people have more buying power, and are coping with the recession. Not only that, they'll look to alternatives since they've just lost a lot of money being invested in a fiat system, which is the direct cause for them losing their money.

So, when the market starts recovering, we'll see increased buying, which in turn should increase prices.

That's it, currently goods and services are increasing in price which means a lot of
disposable income is being used up so the demand for investing is reduced.

In some cases investments will be liquidated or part liquidated in order to cover
increasing costs, and in alot of cases wealth will be moved into recession proof
areas like property.

Unfortunately Bitcoin currently is not being realised as being recession proof,
It will take time for more people to realise this.
2144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlonaut Trial on: October 11, 2022, 09:25:14 PM
But I think strategically Hodlo really doesn't want the narrow win, he presumably wants a win that says "Wright wouldn't be able to convince the court that he was satoshi and so couldn't prevail in a defamation claim"

If that's going to happen, maybe that could be referenced/used in future trials CSW is/will be involved in, saving people's time and money. From that I know, that could be possible, but I don't know if cross-border.

Yes, I was thinking about this on the drive home from work today. This case could be the one
which starts the crumbling of CSW's house of lies and so could be an extremely important case.

snip

It seems Wright's side views this as an opening, essentially going for a "it doesn't matter how fraudulent wright looks now, at the time the statements weren't justified" although I don't see how that works out for him if the courts impression is that he's more likely than not actually Satoshi-- which I think is extremely likely.

snip

That's a bit worrying that the court could see CSW as actually being Satoshi, especially
given all the evidence by KPMG of all the fakery.
2145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlonaut Trial on: October 11, 2022, 12:16:41 PM
Hmm seems like the defense are concentrating on the time specifically around when
the tweets were taking place. They are trying to say at that time the concerted attack on CSW
was baseless.

This phrase keeps popping up "at the time of publication"

Quote
1.2 Stated the actual requirement for a declaratory judgment — after more than 3 years

.As the case now stands, the question is only relevant to the question of whether,

which helped to justify them

Quote

2146  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 11, 2022, 06:16:33 AM

Tsitsipas being an young player have got good support and can base. The years of experience keeps Djokovic ahead of Tsitsipas. Similar kind of game took place few months back in the Italian Open Final. Djokovic and Tsitsipas played the final and Tsitsipas won the match 6-0 75-65. Today's match looked like an much easier win for Djokovic. However Tsitsipas used to give the best in all his matches.

It is not only experience, Djokovic is just on another level than Tsitsipas. I think a lot of people have very high expectations of Tsitsipas but until now, he has not really lived up to the high expectations. Granted, he is still young (24 years old) so he got some more time to grow further.
Tsitsipas didn't not live up to the expectations of tennis fans, i was one of them and thought he's going to be one of the new big 3 or something but i was disappointed, and other players that i thought the same about them are not showing up at all, like Thiem and Zverev, we should give them more time though, they are young still, maybe after Nadal and Djokovic retire we'll see some big competition between them.
This was a big year for Tsitsipas. In every tournament he used to have some improvement. He used to cross the group stages and in the Rotterdam Cup reached the finals and unable to win against Felix Augur. This increased the expectation over him on the upcoming matches. Further there is disappointments and some good play in single and doubles. After the retirement of the big players, Tsitsipas will be on the list competing for those positions.

Yes he will be up there at the top positions competing for tournament wins but he won't be
alone, If Felix AA can beat him there are others who will too. Alcaraz being one and we could
see a lot of clashes of the two
in the future, also as Rabi3 mentions, Sinner could be up there two.

I really like Sinner but I feel his development is slow, I really hope 2023 will be a bigger
year for him.
2147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlonaut Trial on: October 10, 2022, 09:22:34 PM
Thanks for the link, very interesting and as written in the introduction it should make for
a great reference in the future.

Couple of quotes which I particularly like

Re: Manipulated documents
Quote
Satoshi Nakamoto would not have needed to manipulate published versions to obtain evidence

Re: Original Bitcoin Software 0.0.8
Quote
In the procedural document it is claimed that the software is from January 4, 2009 (i.e. before v0.1.0 was published on January 11, 2009)

Quote
The code contains a fix for a bug that was only discovered later by Hal Finney

Re: 2.8 What must the court use as a basis?

Quote
· Wright does not have access to anything that Satoshi Nakamoto should have access to that is not already public

The evidence which KPMG unearthed is quite damning of CSW, If hodlonaut doesn't get a favourable
judgment I would be surprised.

That is a wild idea for sure, The collectibility of that set of coins from the triad of Bitcoin
coin makers would be enormous.

There is nothing to stop the coins being organised and minted well in advance of a 20th
anniversary and just released then! they could be ready in 2 3 years time, even next year and
held in storage for the commemoration!

Catching up from the weekend I had 2 wins from 3 in the URC, Glasgow beat the Bulls 35-21
to wreck my perfect betting round.

Looks like after a shaky start from the warriors they are back to winning.

Rugby Union

Round 4 of the URC is currently underway. I have 3 bets on this weekend.

Bulls to beat Glasgow Warriors
Ulster to beat Ospreys
Stormers to beat Zebre

I know we are only 4 rounds in but the Italian side Benneton are going well with 3 wins
and are in 4th spot, bet yea a lot of Rugby yet to be played.

In the WRWC Italy beat the USA after a poor first half they finished up 22-10.
You were right Timelord about that one.

For tomorrow I have a small bet on Italy to beat USA, in world rankings they are 5 and 6 respectively!

2150  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 10, 2022, 11:56:12 AM
Djokovic is the heavy favorite and Tsitsipas reached the final after winning from behind after loosing the first set. I am expecting it to be a longer match up and Djokovic winning the final.
i don't think we will see Tsitsipas giving a hard time for Djokovic, Stefanos is a moody guy and he will probably fight a little bit in the first one and lose the 2nd easily, Djokovic to win 2-0 is a good bet in my opinion since him winning is as low as 1.3
Djokovic in recent days have won every match on the direct set. Only match in which he lost is against Felix Augur in direct sets after a hard fightback in the second set. Tsitsipas is in good position and the same could create big variation in the odds based on the first set win.

There is a good possibility that we will get to see a very strong Djokovic now again since he can play a couple of tournaments. When it comes to the number of Grand Slams won and the decision who might be the best ever according to that metric, I think the year 2023 will be absolutely crucial. I do see a pretty high chance for Djokovic to have a very strong 2023, and then it might come down to the French Open and whether Nadal will be able to extend the miracle there even further. Given how often Nadal had to give up or skip tournaments because of injuries or physical problems, I believe that Djokovic has a couple more years left in the tank.

Either way, I wish we get the chance to see a couple of games between the two. Hopefully also some crucial games at the GS tournaments.

At least Medvedev put up a great fight against him, weird though that he can push it to the limit in the tie-break in the second set and then leave the court because of injury.

Yes I also think 2023 will be crucial for both Nadal and Djokovic! We will see a time in
the not too distant future where Nadal will be limiting his appearances to take in his favourite
Grand Slam's and tournaments.

Đoković won it fairly easily - I admit I expected more from Tsitsipas. Their last few matches were really close, which wasn't the case today.

I tink this is Tsitsipas's 9th ATP series 500 final, and he's still waiting for his 1st trophy.
He's by far my biggest disappointment if we look at the currently active players.

I'm one of the biggest fan of Tsitsipas before, unfortunately, his performance really decline in the last couple of years, really don't know what is happening from behind, but he really need to focus and go back and win at least a masters tournament.
I watched Djoković against Čilić and Tsitispas and he makes it look way too easy. Those two opponents are very good on this surface and they never looked dangerous in the match. He just glides trough his service games and waits for the first drop of concentration and then pounces.

Looking forward for future tournaments, we have another two on the same surface in Gijon and Florence.
a lot happened to Djokovic this year which messed up his momentum, like the controversy about his visa and his presence in Australia with him not being vaccinated,  I think it really slowed him down a bit, he probably is more focused to win those tournaments to make up for missing Australian open and apparently us open too, I think it's his goal now to win tournaments that are small compared to a grand slam.

For sure, this year was a disaster for him. I think for 2023 he will be targeting to bounce
back bigger and overtake Nadal in the GS wins.

Well it was easy enough for Djokovic, Tsitsipas couldn't get the match to the third set,
final score 6-3, 6-4.

Such a pity Medvedev had to retire yesterday after pulling a muscle, He had the second set
and looked like he could beat Djokovic.

ATM there are only a handful of players able to beat Djokovic, he could be back into
the no.1 spot in no time at all.

Swiatek v krejcikova final starts now at Ostrava, should be a good match. I have a bet on
Swiatek @ 1.46 which is nice odds on the #1.
It is Medvedev who missed a close opportunity out of the injury. As said very few players were able to have fightback games with Djokovic. If Medvedev haven't got injured the semifinal would've been more interesting.

You've got lucky to have the nice odds on Iga Swiatek, because the game result is 90% confirmed before the start of the match.

Well it was a 3 set battle for this final and krejcikova proved that Iga is beatable. First
two sets were close enough, second set decided by tie break but the third was decisively
krejcikova's 6-3

You've got lucky to have the nice odds on Iga Swiatek, because the game result is 90% confirmed before the start of the match.

Everyone could've had the same thought on the Final between Swiatek and Barbora. The odds were also in favour of Swiatek, all who had a prediction against the low odds could've enjoyed good profit with the win(Barbora 5-7 77-64 6-3 Swiatek).Barbora have reached the World No.2 position during the February month and this month she reached second position on doubles. Anyhow this is a disappointment for most of the gamblers.

Yea dissapointing for Swiatek backers although I would say quite a few had Barbora backed too.

If there's no official plans or other substantial community effort I'll likely revisit the idea, and determine how viable it is closer to the time. I think I'd be more interested in doing something like this for the 20th anniversary as opposed to the 15th though. No other reason than I think it's more significant, due to it being the second decade. Hence why I would've liked to seen something like it for the 10th anniversary.

I definitely wouldn't leave it so late, and I'd probably get the communities input once again well in advance. It would be properly planned, and thought out if I were to pick it up in the future.

All I can say for now, is hopefully Tongue. However, it's a little bit too soon at the moment.

I hope we can make this come to life before the 20th anniversary.  I've got a lot of ideas and can certainly help out in any way needed.  Not sure if Casascius or Kialara would be interested.  I'm actually chatting w/Kialara right now, so I will send him this thread to see what he thinks.

Surely some maker like Kialara would be interested in getting on board with this, it should
be a very inviting project to work on and I think there is enough support already for something
to happen. I can only guess that as the project developed it will gain more interest.

Contestant List

1) ChiBitCTy (I wont be in the running fyi, just participating)
2) KrispyKrypto

Now they are two very fine rounded specimens ChiBitCTy!

I picked up mine yesterday, I wasn't sure I would get one so I got a Red Kuri squash
and later walked into a Pumpkin which will be easier to carve.

Thank you for putting this together Chi. and that's a very generous haul of prizes.

Does that most recognized list update still to this day ?
Yeah those BPIP lists are updated constantly.

Anyone else have any suggestions for how to set up the vote ?
As @SFR10 said, you have to limit the voters in some way because if you go with a simple poll, someone will try to abuse it with bunch of brand new accounts. If there is any chance that something can be abused around here, it will be.

My suggestion is to make people vote by simply writing the name of the contestant they think it was the best, limit it to at least Full Member & above and eventually certain amount of merit earned.

IDK about limiting the voting to Full Member, there are some very active people in this
board who have not reached Full Member and probably don't care about ranking

What about a panel of 3 judges as an option? obviously those who are not taking part.

Rugby Union.

snip

The RLWC starts next week and first up the underdogs (according to the tab.com.au website who were very accurate in the 2022 NRL series) England, Fiji, PNG and Lebanon makes for a $25,000 parlay at one dollar down.   Grin

Whaaat?
Now if those wins play out it will be some scoop - best of luck with that.
I will look into the games ahead during the week.

Rugby Union

URC

I have 3 bets on the URC all playing today and I have my first winner already

Rugby Union

Stormers to beat Zebre

There was a big win for my home team Connacht last night, they hosted Munster and got their
URC campaign up and running with a win 20 - 11. I heard during the week that captain Jack Carthy
was going to be back for the game, I knew it would be a hugh plus for the team but with bundee
Aki still on his ban I thought Munster would win, I didnt bet on that one.
Connacht have a lot of catching up to do after losing their first 3 games.

Womens World Cup

Just checking in with what happened today:

Australia 17 - 41 New Zealand
South Africa 5 - 40 France
Fiji 19 - 84 England - So yea that 56.5 handicap on England would have payed.

Rugby Union

World number 1 England play Fiji who are world #21, the handicaps are -56.5 @ 1.82 v
+56.5 @ 1.89
56 points is a massive score, I would be half tempted to do Fiji for example.

For tomorrow I have a small bet on Italy to beat USA, in orld rankings they are 5 and 6 respectively!

Anyone checking in on the Astana Kazakhstan tournament?

We have 2 cracking semi finals to look forward to, Rublev v Tsitsipas and Djokovic v Medvedev.

The first is quite even IMO and Medvedev is favourite to beat Medvedev. That will be
a treat to watch.
