Yeah, it was just in my feed today and see the news that she is pregnant and that's why she will skipped this years Australian Open. I guess we should be happy for her as she uses to have a family and a child over his career.

Not the first news about a tennis player getting pregnant, Ash Barty also reported that she and husband Garry Kissick were expecting their first child.

So congrats to both ladies.

That are good news and also a good reason. She has said that she wants to play in the Australian Open again next year. That is certainly a bit too early.
Unfortunately, it is generally difficult for women who have had a child to return to sport. Angelique Kerber, for example, had criticised the WTA rules for not protecting them from going down in the world rankings. She is also pregnant and expecting her first child in March.

Kerber is currently 32 so her return to Tennis will be limited, Osaka is only 25, if she
decides to return after her pregnancy she could still be a big force, that's providing she
can sort out her mental issues, but I believe it won't be too late for her if she returns let's
say next year.
1622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you still holding your coins #btc on: January 12, 2023, 02:38:50 PM
Maybe in between? I liquidated 25% of my holdings because I had to get the money for my final year of college. This covers my tuition, a laptop, and a desktop computer needed to complete the majority of the coursework.

The rest remain on hold. And I still hope to reimburse all of these previous expenses by freelancing and some part time employment. Hoping to get back on track within this year.

Yea I think a lot of people will at some stage have to liquidate some Bitcoin to cover
unforseen expenses. I had to do the same in 2022, a small percentage had to be liquidated
but I'm predominantly HODLing.

For anyone who is in Bitcoin for a number of years, we realise that 2022 was just a year
in a cycle. Buying in just at the time of the ATH means a bear market will be experienced.
Not everyone realises that it's the time of HODLing, not selling out of panic or FUD.

Ah I forgot all about this one.

How are the winners going to be picked MJ? I don't see any numbers assigned to the slots,
maybe I'm missing something...
1624  Economy / Economics / Re: what is the key to your success investing in bitcoin.. on: January 11, 2023, 08:14:29 PM

: buy at a low price sell at a high price.

: must hold strong, and do not sell it when the price drops.

All of these things are just fundamentals of how investors work but to become successful must accompany these things;
- Capital
- patience
- faith/trust
- positive mindset
- goal

It was not impossible to go far even beyond your expectation if you will carry all of these things and be consistent in doing this. Many people have tried but also many had failed because of being irresponsible. An absence of any of those things really has a huge impact on what we expected and could possibly lead to losses.

I want to pick up on two points my colleague posted

PATIENCE - This is key, to be able to understand that Bitcoin is not a "get rich quick scheme"

POSITIVE MINDSET - With a little knowledge and to understand the essentials of Bitcoin
it is easy to become positive, it's important to maintain a positive mindset.

IMO some of the essentials of Bitcoin are:

- Understanding the concept, what it was designed to do
- How it works, the role of mining, nodes and the security the network offers.
- Understanding what Bitcoin has to offer in terms of self custody as per Lucius' post earlier.

Some more basic knowledge to be a successful investor is understand the two terms:

FUD - fear uncertainty and doubt
FOMO - fear of missing out

From last week's URC games it was a horrible round for my bets. Ulster, Cardiff and The Stormers
all lost, Connacht won but by a big
margin than I thought over the Sharks, the only bet I won was on Leinster, so 1 from 5.

The URC is taking a back seat and the Heineken Cup takes off again with Round 3 and 12 games.
Busy weekend coming up, I will have to do a bit of studying before making any bets.

Is there anything good to bet on in the AO qualifiers? I breezed through the pairs today but couldn't find any real value.

I'm trying to find something for tomorrow, but most of the players are unknown to me. Dzumhur does look decent against Purcell @2.10 odds though.

TBH I haven't even considered any matches in the AO yet. I think there will be better
opportunities at the second Adelaide competition.

Two ATP matches up shortly are:
Kubler v Kecmanovic - in the first set now!
Rublev v Kokkinakis

Earlier Draper beat Paul so yea there are still very well known players there compared
to the qualifiers at AO.
1628  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Non-KYC BTC to fiat process on: January 10, 2023, 10:42:45 PM
You can easily convert upto 100,000 euros worth of bitcoin per annum via p2p exchanges like LBC. And you no need to worry about the proof of income as long as you keep the trade limit under less than thousand euros for a trade.

You can pass level 2 verification with your national ID KYC, and find the reliable traders with high trust score and trading volume.

Let's say you convert about 900 euros per trade. Apart from being a pain in the ass, transferring 900 euros 111 times to your account in the same fiscal year can set off alarm bells as well. It would set them off automatically if you transfer the $100k in one but the sum of very small amounts passing a threshold, depending on the country, also sets them off.
You are right if these transfers are to one bank account. Above I wrote a list of payment systems. If you, your wife and other relatives register in these payment systems and receive 4-7 transfers per year, then perhaps such amounts will not be tracked by the tax authorities.

I am in the EU also and have made multiple transfers from exchanges to my bank account
throughout a given year, probably about 10 in the year all ranging from ~€100 to over €3000
and I never been asked questions. It's the larger amounts like €10k+ is where they are obliged
by law to ask where the funds came from I suspect.

If it's a sizeable amount you need to transfer, like over €100k maybe consider a Swiss
numbered account with a CC! but I don't know the ins and Outs of that approach.

If we are talking about €1M is better to look for a tax advisor, there are ways to legalize it without paying practically nothing by creating a company in a third country that gives you a loan and things like that. I say it by hearsay but there are solutions for large capitals.

Yes these are "Shell Company" based in places like the Caymen Islands and are or were
predominantly former British colonies but still have banking ties to England.

1629  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 10, 2023, 01:25:40 PM
Djokovic will certainly make an attempt to break the record. But the years are also starting to count for him and you can't play 20 tournaments a year. The competition is also big. In the days when Connors won all the tournaments, the tournament was much lower. Many people see Federer as the best player of all time, but Connors holds the record firmly. I don't know who the best female player of all time was. In the 90s that was undoubtedly the German Steffi grave. In the men's tennis in the 90s, the Americans Sampras and Agassi dominated. But I don't see it in the list either. I expect that Jack Sinner will also win the necessary tournaments. That is one of the most promising talents out there right now.

Yes, might be hard to chase that record, but for sure, as long as Djokovic is playing and it seems that he will have least a 1-2 years of his prime years ahead of him. He will be pushed by a lot of young players in the tour right now, but you can see that he holds himself very well with them. Sinner is just one, we have Alcaraz, unfortunately he is injured if I'm not mistaken.

Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert-Lloyd, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis and of course Serena Williams are the names that pop up in my mind as far as the ladies goes or at least the female tennis players that I was able to watch.
For now it is Djokovic the only choice to break the record. Rafael Nadal isn't gonna chase it further. Once Nadal was high and he wasn't able to keep his track record continue due to injuries. If Nadal too is committed, then the competence between Djokovic and Nadal will make this record breaking more interesting. As said, Djokovic have got few more years left to chase and by now many potential young players makes it a hard task for him.
Nadal's body is slowly deteriorating and so in the next 2 years, he might follow Roger Federer's retirement. For Djokovic, I think he can break the tie between them this year and then win a couple to inch close to Roger's record.

But it is without any test or competition from the young generation now with Alcaraz leading the way for this new set of players.

So we will see how good Djokovic if Nadal no longer plays and he is the only one left of the big 3.

Well the #1 competition to Djokovic' advances is still Nadal I would say but just
marginally ahead of Alcaraz, Zverev Medvedev and Tsitsipas. It really could come
down to injuries and not just in the case of Djokovic but also the afore mentioned.

Is anyone betting on games in the Adelaide International 2 tournament? I just made
1 bet so far on Rublev to beat Kokkinakis tomorrow.
1630  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dealing with low self-esteem on: January 10, 2023, 10:03:34 AM
Self esteem is the way we regard ourselves, the values we place. Its normal to criticize ourselves once in a while, but where low self-esteem creeps in is where we constantly degrade ourselves or judge negatively.
Low self-esteem constantly leaves one feeling inadequate; always striving for perfection. This attitude can sometimes push one into depression, hopelessness and even entertain suicidal thoughts.

I've seen peeps who go out of their comfort zones just to lead a lifestyle which they believe is acceptable by their peers and lose themselves in the process.
This is so sad as most people dealing with low self-esteem find it difficult to appreciate themselves, always downplaying their positive attributes and abilities, regard themselves as inferior to their peers and so on.

Although there are ways to help peeps dealing with such a feeling such as
- building positive relationships
- appreciating and complimenting yourself and all that. But it's looking like it's not enough because whether we believe it or not, it is slowly depriving us of active and innovative minds that have been held prisoner by low self-esteem. Your input would be appreciated.

The reason you are having this problem is that you are trying desperately to fit in to a general ideology which is growing more and more absurd with each passing day.  For such people it may be effective to kind of wipe the slate clean-ish and get a new intellectual start while analyzing how you got nudged over into your present state.  I'm not saying it will work for you, but it's possibly worth a shot.

This could be partly true, generally we have to try to confirm to what society creates
as the norm and this can be difficult for people with low self esteem but it's not necessarily
the cause.

The early years of a child's development are crucial. Teaching children to be able to deal
with problems such as bullying for example are extremely important, if those lessons are not
learned they can manifest into mental issues and the most serious is suicidal thoughts.

Overcoming the issue of low self esteem will certainly help with positive friends and family
and may need professional help.
1631  Other / Archival / Re: [POLL]What do you expect from Bitcoin in 2023? on: January 09, 2023, 09:48:45 PM
Usually predicting bitcoin in a year is a hard task, this year it is specifically tough because of the situation with the global economy. Bitcoin doesn't follow any other markets but it is definitely negatively affected by the economy specially by "recession". Everyone is already predicting more recession[1] on top of what we've seen so far and when it is accompanied by inflation, bitcoin can't have a bull market. So that option is out.

I personally don't see any more dumps coming anytime soon so that option is out too, but that's unless nothing big and negative takes place like another major exchange getting hacked or another country (like Taiwan) being invaded, etc.

For the time being, I'll continue taking advantage of the reverse bubble and continue accumulating.

[1] https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jan/02/third-of-world-economy-to-hit-recession-in-2023-imf-head-warns

Bitcoins 4 year cycle is constantly on my mind and have just entered year number 3 in
this cycle so I am expecting a strong year 3 overall, I opted for Bitcoin is waiting for
a recovery, the bearish trend is over
in the poll.

It will be very interesting to look back in a year or two to see how the markets deal with
one major thing which "Bitcoin" hasn't had to deal with - Global economy and the resulting
recession, this is new territory. Also another major war on top of what is happening in Ukraine
will be a big test to the markets but overall I'm positive with my choice.

Thanks for the replies people.

@DaveF - yes I will be looking into running a Bitcoin node, myself and my brother were
talking of running one each last week but that's as far as we have got! I will probably
look at running a lightning one too.

So yea hoping for a simple smartphone download to do what I want is wishful thinking,
in the mean time for the first raffle at least I think I will just issue everyone who wants to
buy and pay for a ticket with ⚡with an invoice, there are only going to be 21 tickets and
not everyone will pay by ⚡ I suspect
1633  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 09, 2023, 07:33:04 AM

Well he is 1.47 ATM in the tie break if the first set. this IMO is a fantastic price on someone
like Djokovic. Losing the first set is not detrimental at all.

He is gone out to 1.7 now after losing that tie break. This is a big opportunity to bet on Djokovic
winning the next two sets.

He really wants/needs to win this tournament to set the stage for this season to take back
that #1 spot.
and he did win the match, he even defended a match point in the 2nd set, too bad i was asleep and i didn't see the match, for me Djokovic to win is a no brainer especially after losing a set with odds as high as 1.7, he really did want that title to start off pretty strong.

After Korda won the first game in the second set Djokovic' odds went to 1.85 but I
already had my bet in! With that win Djokovic is now level with Nadal in 4th spot of
ATP titles with 92 titles. Both Rafa and Novak are very well matched so far in terms of
ATP titles and Grand Slam titles, it will be interesting to see how the year progresses
for both players.

1634  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What are the unwritten rules of healthy life? on: January 08, 2023, 11:16:11 PM
I think it's a little more basic than, "less selfies, more soul."

For me, I think you want to eat good food, drink clean water, breathe good air, get lots of sleep, get lots of exercise, and do activities that keep you mentally sharp.  Also avoiding anything in excess that can lead to negative consequences.  This is why it's good to live somewhere with a lots of trees for good air, consider drinking clean water as opposed to soda, get lots of sleep, have a hobby that keeps you moving and thinking, and be somewhat conscious about what you eat.

That's it!

I would like to expand on those points and make the case for Simple, clean, healthy living.

Avoid/minimise processed food - "you are what you eat"
Build/maintain muscle mass and stretch for mobility and flexibility.
Excersize your body for fitness and stamina, get your heart pumping for at least 10 minutes
Excersize your mind to strengthen memory.

Keep life as simple as possible, it doesn't need any help at getting complicated!
1635  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 08, 2023, 09:10:38 AM
so Djokovic will face Korda in the final of Adelaide, they both haven't lost a set yet in the tournament, but things will change in the final, Djokovic to win is set @1.17 which is really low, i don't really know what to bet on in this game, all i can think of is Djokovic to win in two sets, maybe the bookmakers know what they're doing, it's kinda low but the best i can get out of this final and those odds.

Well he is 1.47 ATM in the tie break if the first set. this IMO is a fantastic price on someone

I have emptied my wallet on Leinster.

I won on Leinster too! (but not as good odds as you had) Cardiff lost while Edinburgh won.

The London Irish and Harlequin games are yet to be played - fingers crossed I can break even.
6501

Well I am in the RED this weekend even if the Stormers win today away to Glasgow.

Ulster failed to get past Benetton, I was following the scoreboard on this game and it
seems Benetton were deserved winners, just about, winning 31 - 29. That's impressive
to be able to win again this season against top opposition.

Cardiff, what's the story? to be able to win the two previous games and then lose against
the second last team.

Connacht won,as I thought they would but by a bigger margin than 6.5. I REEEAAALY have
to stop betting this way on Rugby.

1637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Giving customized Bitcoin-themed Gifts to my clients on: January 08, 2023, 08:30:00 AM
One of the key elements to owning a business is Marketing! It's extremely important
to let people know your service exists and what you provide. The two messages on the
bottle are key, your business name and contact details and in this case the Bitcoin logo.

They should always associate your business with Bitcoin and being able to pay with it.
This also provides a secondary type of advertising when others see the bottles.

Well done to SatoPrincess, very proactive to give presents to your clients at the start of the year.

Thanks Dave, yes that was an Invoice and yes I received your test Satoshis. So yea it's
"one and done"

Just reading back over what you said about Inurl and there is something about it in
the wallet but it doesn't make sense to me the instruction "Scan an LNURL QR to receive Bitcoin"
but after reading a reply to another question on GitHub I see now what it's used for.

Quote
We currently only support a subset of LNURL features (more specifically just lnurl-withdraw,
which allows you to scan/paste an LNURL and withdraw funds from another service).
From what I read you are in need of lnurl-pay.

Good news is that is already in our roadmap!

Ok it seems that the MUUN service is not going to do it for me.

1639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: MUUN - Looking for feedback from existing users on: January 07, 2023, 05:29:13 PM
It is super easy to use and you don't even need to spend time managing channels, but this may also be a problem. For the UX, it is great, however some people don't like it because they are not a "real lightning wallet" but a normal wallet using submarine swaps.

As we have said multiple times, Muun is a non-custodial bitcoin wallet that uses submarine swaps for lightning payments.

If by “real lightning” wallet you mean a mobile wallet with off-chain funds, then Muun is definitely not one — for now. We prioritized user security first 👇

We’ve been working for some time on transitioning to an off-chain architecture that doesn’t compromise user security.

We never expected swaps to be the final solution.

Thank you TryNinja, never heard of Submarine Swaps, from what I have read it's something
to do with on-chain and off-chain transactions. I'm not very technical so I would need to do
5 times more research than a lot of the user's here.

Anyway I like how they say they prioritise user security.

I don't think MUUN supports lnurl-pay so you would have to create a different address for every ticket.

Also you might want to use a wallet that supports Lightning Adress: https://github.com/andrerfneves/lightning-address/blob/master/README.md
So you can just post you@youraddress.com to get the funds.

I don't know if you want to go down the path of hosting your own node and doing it yourself but there are more options if you do it that way.
BUT, there is time and effort and expense involved.

-Dave

Thanks DaveF, hmmmm so if I just copy and paste a lightning address can anybody
and everybody make a transaction to that with the same amount?

This is the copied address Huh?

Just looking at the odds for Leinster v Ospreys, they are out to 1.17 on Rollbit which
are really great odds considering it's the top team v the #12 team, I haven't listened to
any punditry this week ahead of round 12 but maybe Leinster are resting some key
players ahead of the Heineken cup Round next week, also the talisman Johnny Sexton is
missing after picking up an injury last week and having surgery.

I have emptied my wallet on Leinster.
