1401  Economy / Economics / Re: Has anyone felt lost in pursuit of financial freedom ? on: March 17, 2023, 02:43:26 PM
Financial freedom is a dream and you need to stop yourself for a period of two to 5 years to achieve that dream. You must reduce relationships...
There is no fixed rule or path to achieve financial freedom. It is a journey that everyone has to find their way to getting there. There are principles to help achieve this freedom of which discipline is one, and then selective relationship.

I agree, everyone who is searching foe financial freedom is on different paths to achieve it.

I know of a guy living not too far from me who wrote some books on the subject or related to
it. He lives in a different time to everyone else, he doesnt have electricity, telecommunications
or even a car. He only relys on himself and nature to survive he grows food and refers to
himself as a hunter/gatherer of sorts. He is financially free!

The person who wins a €100,000,000 in the Euromillions lotto also becomes financially free.

Why am I not financially free? I have a car loan, a Mortgage and I need to go to work to
pay for all that.

For the working class person, commercialism can be an enemy

I have my bet on the Eels tomorrow (dont know why I thought that game was earlier?)

Timezone conversion can become quite confusing.

I was just about to write the Eels need to get a wriggle on, but then they scored two quick tries to take the score to 14 - 10 to the Sea Eagles with three minutes before half time.

Ooooh that was a close game, well done to the Sea Eagles. That last intercept
on 76 minutes by Olakau'atu of the Sea Eagles wascrucial and won them the game.

Timelord, I see you havent done a wager on the first game tomorrow, Knights v Dolphins?

Reading a pre-match preview it doesnt bode well for the Knights and they are underdogs,
I'm going with the Dolphins @ 1.52

Quote
But the Knights will be heavily decimated without Kalyn Ponga (concussion), Jayden Brailey
(concussion), Tyson Frizell (ankle) and Jacob Saifiti (suspension). It appears an
uphill battle for head coach Adam O’Brien to break a five-game losing streak at home.

Alcaraz v Felix AA is a tough one to call, I might go with the number 1 seed - Alcaraz but
I have not seen either playing this tournament so I might actually hold off on it altogether.

Likewise todays quarter final between Fritz and Sinner is difficult to call so I will hold off.

In the first semi final its Medvedev v Tiafoe, I think Medvedev will prevail and go to
the final and if so who of the 4 remaining competitors in the 2 remaining quarter finals
could beat him in the final? Alcaraz?

Interesting picks Timelord, so early in the season I basing my bets on last years top teams,
Panthers, Eels, Storm, Rabbitohs, Roosters and Cowboys.

I have my bet on the Eels tomorrow (dont know why I thought that game was earlier?)

I'll probably go with:

Storm to beat the Titans
Cowboys to beat Warriors and
Sharks to beat the Raiders.

I've been on this site reading a few previews, I'll see if the predictions hold true on Sunday

1406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Includes happiness and Bitcoin on: March 15, 2023, 11:01:47 PM
Access to crypto will become easier with the spread of Bitcoin and crypto money ATMs in Turkey. It was an incredible source of happiness for me to see a Bitcoin ATM for the first time where i live.

Do you know if they ask for identification to operate with them? The main attraction of crypto ATMs is usually that they do not ask for identification, at least for transactions below certain limits. The fact that they are starting to appear in shopping centres is good, as you said, because people will start to see it as a normal thing, but the use of these ATMs by people who understand them will depend on whether or not they ask for identification and the fees. Usually the fees are high but they don't ask for KYC, and that suits a lot of people.

I have never seen a Bitcoin ATM physically and didn't know some of them are asking for identification like what you've said. But one thing I always thought I'm pretty sure about is that, it will have higher fees compared to the local exchange and custodial wallets, because of its convenience and availability and it is inside a mall, well everything inside the mall is a bit pricey lol.

I was wondering about that myself, and like you Oasisman I have never seen one, If I
had access to one though I would definitely use it to buy Bitcoin particularly if I didnt
have to provide identification and even if the fees were high. To be able to buy Bitcoin
with cash is definitely a big advantage.

I think its also a viable substitute for P2P transactions particularly short term

Yes education is very important but to take it a step further, targeted education rather
than the one fits all system most young people go through.

For example most young people learn all the same subjects together at the same time.

It would be far better if kids were taught subjects which a.) they are interested in and b.)
they are capable of.

Medvedev - Zverev. A great match. That was Zverevs best game since his injury. It is nice to see how he is improving from game to game. In this match he showed his top performance again more often. But not yet from the beginning to the end. Nevertheless, a great development. In set 3 he showed a strong will again shortly before the end and also fought against defeat. But then he made too many mistakes and Medvedev won.

I agree, good match, arguably the best so far in this tournament. Zverev was hitting BIG making Medvedev look like an amateur sometimes. That backhand! Wow! Perhaps he didn't even need that much power to win, just to make less mistakes. Also serve was not that impressive (or Medvedev receiving somewhere in the stands made it look so).  Grin

Anyway, today we'll have some more great matches to watch:

WTA: Gauff v Sabalenka (Sabalenka will win probably, but Coco is also good on her home soil so I won't be betting on this one), Sakkari v Kvitova another great matchup, I guess I'm gonna bet on Petra. Flawless performance so far in Indian Wells! She's a WTA veteran so let's hope she has some energy left to play.

ATP: Medvedev v Davidovich Fokina Another great match, but I won't dare to bet. Medvedev has won 3 tournaments in a row and had a very exhausting match vs Zverev so I'm not sure if he's got enough energy to defeat the Spaniard.

Great match by both, I was able to grab a bet on Medvedev in the first set
when the odds went to 2.0 - very nice.

What I'm taking from the match is that Zverev is getting back into his top level of
performance and Medvedev is still in top form to be able to tough it out and take
the win in the 3rd set!

I'm going again with Medvedev v Fokina, he is an unpredictable player and
gets down when things are not going his way.

Manly Sea Eagles play Parramata Eels tomorrow, Its strange to see a game on Wednesday?

Anyway I'm backing the Eels to win @ 2.33, Sea Eagles are favourites but not by much.

Funny to see the Sea Eagles in top spot and the Eels at the bottom. The ladder is a bit skewed
though, the Sea Eagles had a bye last weekend.
1410  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 14, 2023, 07:12:16 AM
Wawrinka v Rune

That was almost a 2 set win for Wawrinka but in the end it was a very close match, and tense!

When Wawrinka was ahead in the second set Rune's odds were 10.0, I almost put a bet on him
then but hesitated.

This guy is really growing into his capabilities, to be able to bounce back from 6-2 in the first
set to taking the match into the 3rd and right down to the wire, impressive for such a young guy.
1411  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union 🏉 League 🏆 Super 6/7s Pro14, Cups & Tours | Olympics | Touch.... on: March 13, 2023, 08:20:26 PM
Italy's attacking play is indeed great ATM but they still have work to do. They were targeting
that Welsh game big time.

It was good to see Wales showing some signs of improvement in that game. Massive game coming
now for them against France.

On Ireland, there is nothing between ourselves and France in the world rankings.
This years Six Nations has been good so far and its reward for the systems
the IRFU have put in place, there is a very healthy schools system which ultimately
feeds right up to the top senior teams and internationally. We lost a lot of key players
in that game, both hookers, no.12, no.8 and lock and still hat the cover on the bench
and on field skill to win with van der Flierno.8 throwing the lineouts.

Its the same thing at Leinster who are unbeaten this season, they have massive
competition for every position.

I have been reading up on the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and the FED's response to handling the dire situation. A report from Bloomberg states: "US financial regulators moved on Sunday to protect depositors’ funds following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and set up a new financial backstop, seeking to stem fears that households and businesses would flee smaller lenders."

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-03-12/us-moves-to-help-depositors-offer-bank-backstop-in-wake-of-svb?leadSource=uverify%20wall

Quite chilling to hear that this is happening at a time of sky-high interest rates and general financial turmoil. What do you guys think the fallout will be like on Monday when markets open and what effect would this collapse have on Bitcoin? Bitcoin of course, conceived following the 08 crisis is built to bypass this sort of thing, "financial backstops".

This just shows how uninformed you really are.

Sky high interest rates? HAHAHAHAHAHA we are not even NEAR where they were in the mid 2000s or the early 2000s or the late 90s or the early 90s or....
For those that follow finance the 2008 implosion over the summer was clearly seen in late 2006 and by the summer of 2007 was evident what was happening. But the US government / central bank and other governments and central banks looked the other way because they thought it was going to be a small bump.

What you are seeing now is a proactive government taking care of things. You the necrotic tissue out of the body, you don't watch and see what happens.

-Dave

Yea the government seems to have acted quickly to what happened and after reading
this article >

https://www.reuters.com/markets/world-markets-set-aftershocks-svb-collapse-ripples-out-2023-03-12/

Quote
"No losses associated with the resolution of Silicon Valley Bank will be borne by the taxpayer," a statement from the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp said.

I hope indeed that the taxpayers dont bear the cost of this.

Just a side note in relation to what happened and highlighting some of the
nonsense surrounding FIAT banking.

They are allowed to lend multiple times the amount of deposits they receive - so
when everyone wants their funds all at the same time ....
they cannot fullfil the demand.

Its just goes to show the banking system is teetering on collapse. This is at least
a warning sign!

Got unlucky yesterday with two bets: Noskova was defeated by Gauff and Teichmann surrendered to Peterson. It's ok, it's WTA after all and it can be unpredictable sometimes.  Grin

Today's matches in Indian Wells to watch: Rybakina v Badosa (my bet on Rybakina), Swiatek v Andreescu (Swiatek of course), Fernandez v Garcia (me betting on Garcia). All these great matches will start early US time, so good opportunity to watch if you're located in Europe.

I was watching that match with Peterson v Teichmann and was going to do a bet half way
through the second set when Peterson went ahead and the odds changed but decided
not to - luckily.

I rarely bet on the WTA, its just too unpredictable, but very entertaining.

Interesting match coming up next, Hurkacz v Paul, I think Paul Is good value at 2.1!

Thanks to this thread it should act as a reminder to people that events in the OP are temporary
and not to succumb to FUD and panic, see those events as opportunities.

Also remember exchanges for the most part are centralised entities, use them to
"exchange" then take your funds off them and into your control. You just never know what
is going to happen.

Events like that will happen again so always look to minimise your exposure to these
risks and see in them the chance to buy cheap.

Cant believe the Bulldogs beat Storm? and the Raiders killed our bets on the Dolphins.

Huh?  The Dolphins won! https://www.nrl.com/draw/nrl-premiership/2023/round-2/dolphins-v-raiders/ 20 - 14 after trailing early in the game.  The Dolphins were playing at home on a drizzly Saturday afternoon.

Yea??? dont know how I came up with that, anyway yea well done the Dolphins.

Scotland v Ireland - The first half was close enough, 1 point separating the two
at half time but Ireland in the second half played in a different gear scoring 2 more
tried and holding Scotland scoreless.

BIG game next weekend for both the Triple Crown and the Championship!

France really put it up to England - massive difference in scores, the first 10 minutes
kind of looked like it may be a closer game but France were just too good.
1416  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 12, 2023, 07:28:43 PM
I have a bet on Rublev, he shouldnt have any trouble judging on his form, imagine
another Rublev v Medvedev final!

Wawrinka v Rune - tough one for Stan

Raducanu has a tough one next against the 13th seed Haddad Maia.

Re: Swiatek and Krejčíková they are getting ever so close to playing each other.

I'm also keeping an eye on Leylah who has a tough match coming up against Garcia.

I would really like to see both Raducanu and Fernandez getting closer to winning
some tournaments soon.

Here we go! here is a quick mock up of the layout of the artwork.

Thanks to all 7 contributors, personally I think all 7 efforts are fantastic, great results.

I need to resize some pieces and make them all uniform in size. I also need to get pricing
to get them printed.

I will be setting up a new thread for the sales.

All 7 contributors will be airdropped a free copy as per the OP.
1418  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did anyone saw the New Bitcoin Advertisement? on: March 12, 2023, 07:41:13 AM
I don't know how someone concluded (question for the OP) that this is any kind of advertisement for Bitcoin? I have never heard anyone mention Bitcoin anywhere, or seen a logo for it in that advertisement. Furthermore, it is not about the US financial system flaws, but about the flaws of the entire financial system of the world.

According to the last data I saw, that CEX supports as many as 128 altcoins/tokens, and it doesn't matter to them (like all other CEX) what people buy, it's important that they as a company profit from it. Don't be naive, this is not an advertisement for Bitcoin, nor are they better than any traditional bank.

In the end doesn't it shows Bitcoin as a solution. Please go to Coinbase Twitter handle, it clearly states why this advertisement is relevant for the US. I am quoting it for you!
Quote
2/3 of America thinks the financial system is overdue for an overhaul.

It’s time to update the system 🔁
I am suprised none of you guys replying to this thread have questioned the timing of this advertisement. If some one had done some research then most of us would have understood why this advertisement was released and why USDC withdrawal have been halted. On Coinbase.

so you agree even on their twitter it still does not mention bitcoin.. but is about stable coins and fiat

funny part is coinbase is a custodial system.. just like fiat banks

coinbase advert is not saying anything about blockchains and p2p which does not require custodians. instead its advertising its custodial system

I also agree that this advertisement is clearly advertising COINBASE not Bitcoin.

As Bitcoiners we know the concept and messages in the advert are relevant to Bitcoin
but for people who dont know Bitcoin they wont associate the messages with Bitcoin.

Ita a good ad and the messages are strong but a big orange BTC symbol at the end
would have been great to see.
1419  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: March 11, 2023, 08:01:20 PM
Good match between Jordan Thompson and Tsitsipas. The first set won by Thompson on a tie breaker 77 60. Tsitsipas have won the second set 6-4 and the same have made the third set more interesting. This is going to be a win for Tsitsipas, but Jordan Thompson have given a tough fight.

Bautista Agut have got defeated on the direct set against Ruusuvuori 66-77 2-6.

The match between Jordan Thompson and Tsitsipas was really close. The match was not one sided at all. And actually, Jordan Thompson was the one who won the match. Incredible mind game between both of them. But in the end, Jordan Thompson is the one prevailing. Tsitsipas made very few mistakes that cost him the match in the end.

Agut did not play well in the match. I believe he could have done better. In the first set, he actually did show a little resistance. But in the second set, it was all Ruusuvuori.

Thats an upset for Tsitsipas to bow out so early in the competition.

Medvedev came through his match with Nakashima in 2 sets, Sinner is looking ok
and has taken the first set against Gasquet. Felix AA is currently playing Martinez,
Rublev won earlier against Lehecka, these IMO are most likely to trouble Medvedev
who himself has to be the favourite.

In the WTA im not betting but I'm keeping an eye on Raducanu who is playing now
against Linette.

Also keeping an eye on both Swiatek and Krejčíková given the recent win by her over
Swiatek in Dubai. They are on the opposits sides of the deaw here - interesting

Wales did the job against Italy, it was a great game, Wales were a bit lucky maybe not the right word
Italy had plenty of chances to score but couldnt finish.

Just watching England v France, its 9 minutes gone and has the makings of a great
game, its all France ATM!
