Rugby 7's are underway this weekend again, this weekend in Sydney. Both Mens and Women's.
I will have a look at the schedule and I might make a few bets.

Round 13 of the URC gets underway again this weekend ahead of the SIX NATIONS next
weekend. I haven't investigated who is playing who yet but will probably add a bet or two
on this also.

This weekend also sees the start of a new women's tournament, "The Celtic Challenge"
between 3 teams, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, this competition will be expanded to
6 teams next year.
1562  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 27, 2023, 01:40:37 PM
Man, if Tsitsi takes this somehow, it's the biggest slap in my face. Backed him for a number of tournaments, then trimmed my expectations to final appearance and even then just gave that up.

Anybody betting on Djokovic match today? Really hard to find the value bet with odds like this ao I went for a strange one. Paul to win more than 8.5 games. If he takes a set or even gets it to tie break this passes. Did not watch him at AO at all so I am unsure if he is serving good enough to pull it off, I know he has no chance if serve does not help him. I guess he must have been doing something right to get at semi final  Grin

I went for 3:1 as I thought since yesterday that was the most "Value" bet -- I know it was too much to ask for Paul to play his best (couldn't he just have won 1 more game for you haha), but I've been waiting for Djoko to do his classic "drop a set for fun" but this time around he kept to his word of saying he wants to set a statement of intent.

Nothing left to bet on except live on the next, and that's even if Djoko finally gives me a first set loss.

Re: Tsitsipas

I think a good few of us got let down by betting on Tsitsipas in the past, I haven't
been betting on him either since then.

TBH it seems to me (and it's something I said back in December) Djokovic has to
be feeling superior, and knows he is superior ATM to any other player on tour.

I would say he has already at this stage lined up a win in every tournament in his schedule
and definitely every GS this year as a win.

He fairly breezed through his match today, 3 sets!

I really can't see Tsitsipas winning tomorrow. Djokovic to me is super focussed, after
last year - he is on a mission now.
1563  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 27, 2023, 07:20:36 AM
~snip

Hell, Marin Čilić is still in top 20 and I have a feeling he had a constant struggle with form and injuries last season. What the hell are others doing then?

honestly, I thought that he retired last season

just looking at Murray with artificial hip, that is playing competitive is enough to judge current situation in tennis world

in the end, it suits Djokovic great, he could get 4x GS this season easily with this competition if they allow him to play on US, and he probably thought that it is over when lost from Medvedev in 2021 on US Open

Both Cilic and Murray are currently at the same level and now Murray even looks better then Cilic. But still Djokovic is same age as them but he takes care of his body in a special way so thats why he isnt struggling both of them. Plus Murray with the hip is doing the best he can so far

Ah but I don't think Murray is progressing, he is at a level and seems to be able to
hold that, Cilic had some good results last year but couldn't hold that same performance.

I don't see either of them doing much more than they already have done from last year.

Tsitsipas had a bit of a 4 set struggle against Khachanov to get to the final, I can't
see him beating Djokovic. Unfortunately I can't see Paul getting to the final.
1564  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reason why I will never help anyone to invest in crypto on: January 26, 2023, 01:26:41 PM
I assume the OP means "crypto" rather than Bitcoin.

There is a problem currently with "influencers" who preach only positive things about
shady crypto projects, I guess it rubs off on others who want to be just like them
and don't see the potential problems with doing so.

The central bank in Ireland only yesterday released a warning about being sucked
in to investing in crypto, it's a problem, so many get infleuenced and lose, crypto
investing is being portrayed as a no-brainer get rich quick activity.

Stick to Bitcoin
1565  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 26, 2023, 07:17:36 AM
agree here, and it was obvious before the AO as well
I just cannot decide is Djokovic that good at the moment, or competition is on a really low level - and later seems as closer option

looking at semi-finalists, maybe Tsitsi and Khachanov can play longer match, but Djokovic will probably play 6 more sets till title

I think it is a combination of both.
Đoković has a claim to be the tennis GOAT and still performs on a really high level, but tennis in general hasn't been this weak in a long time.

I recall the beginning of the Federer era in which there simply weren't dominant players around and I feel that's what awaits us soon again.
From the current crop of players there are a lot of good ones, but other than Alcaraz not a single great one - and even Alcaraz is not there yet.

We were kinda spoiled with how good we've had it with Fed, Rafa and Novak.
Yeah best way to judge how strong tour is at the moment is to check top 20 players. I don't have anything against Ruud but player of his qoulity to be comfortably on 3rd spot is a bit disappointing. He is very good on clay and just solid on other surfaces. Best thing I can say about him is that he is constant with his results but I don't see him as top 5 player for sure.

Hell, Marin Čilić is still in top 20 and I have a feeling he had a constant struggle with form and injuries last season. What the hell are others doing then?

Yea I kind of agree, we have been spoiled with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic and add
Murray in there too but from a spectators point of view it's nicer if there is more variety,
personally speaking.

The fans of the top 3 will always what them to win but for me I want change every so
often.

I remember back in the 90's in F1 when Schumacher was dominant, I stopped watching
because it became too predictable.

Back to Tennis, yea looking at the top 20, there isn't anyone apart from Alcaraz who has that
'X Factor" and that's really what everyone is looking for...

Nothing more than a training for Đoković. I have to say that it looks like one of the easiest GS's that he'll win.

He's got Paul in the semis, and probably Tsitsipas in the final. He's got a 10-2 score against him and won last 5 matches on hard, with only 1 lost set.

If he loses more than 1 set in these 2 games, I'll be surprised.

It's really hard to see this going any other way than Djokovic clocking up another GS.

Really surprised by the straight set win today, 1-6, 2-6, 4-6. I recon Rublev had himself beaten
in the dressing room.

What sort of a chance does Paul have? he finished last year very strong, can he at least
take a set from Djokovic?
1568  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 25, 2023, 07:25:49 AM
Rublev at 15/1 now even is tempting, if he does a miracle, no better chance to win a GS.
I don't think Rublev can win it, he just doesn't have the constant. What do you mean no better chance to win GS? He plays Djoković next which is toughest possible draw for any player in any Grand Slam. Yeah he came far, but I don't see how he can win against Djoković in best of 5 sets. He can take first set for sure and maybe second but I am expecting him to loose belief during second set already and after that it will be one way match.

The toughest, but it's as if you only need to overcome one (the biggest) hurdle tomorrow, and the route to the final gets easier. If I'm Rublev, I'm thinking I'd rather meet the final boss early, because I'll probably play at lower levels later, which won't be enough to overcome Djoko then. If I get past this stage, it's uncharted territory and I won't have the home crowd backing me, the final would be too much to overcome

So while I'm totally with you here, he's not got it in him, but if he has a chance, it's the brightest if he wins tomorrow and his chances against Djoko is at its best tomorrow.

That said, definitely, all in against him once he's 2 sets up Wink

I also was thinking that Rublev must see the raining field of players and thinks yes
'once I get past Djokovic I will have lesser more beatable players'.

I also share the same concern as you guys, mentally he is not as strong as he needs to be.

Also I think there is a small red flag as to Djokovic' fitness/injury and to how
serious it is if there is one.

Re: Paul, he is in control ATM in the 4th set to win the match, he will be serving shortly
to take it. I had a small conservative bet on him, so I'll be happy with that.
1569  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: January 25, 2023, 07:15:32 AM

There are pluses and minuses in absolutely all cases.
If you want to buy a place:
* you will most probably buy it a bit farther from where you'd work (so you can afford to buy it), meaning you lose a lot of time in commute (no matter if it's car, bus, train or whatever)
* taking a loan is, as you said, something not too easy to take and may need certain advance planning
* even if you buy a place, it won't be like you have no other costs than just paying it back, maintenance and utilities are to be paid
* if you lose your job you may be forced to quick-sell your place, possibly even at a (great) loss
* you may end up - sooner or later - with neighbors you simply don't want to live near them (stinky, noisy, whatever)

On the other hand:
* even if the place is bought with a loan, you can still sell it if your relation doesn't work out or you want to go working in another city or country; though it may worth it selling only after at least 3 years
* the prices for houses/flats tends to go up - actually it's a sinusoidal with higher and higher ups - but it doesn't hurt watching the market and don't buy at top and sell at bottom; still it's usually a good long term investment.

Staying in rented place:
* no need for commitment
* it can be near (or at least not too far from) the work and the fun places
* you have the flexibility to easily go rent somewhere else if you change work or you don't like your neighbors

It's up to you to weight the pluses and the minuses; I' might have even missed some. In theory buying your own place is a great investment; in reality, not all cases/situations are that nice.
However, my analysis is valid for my country. Some points may differ in yours.

Yes I share the same outlook as NF

Taking a loan/mortgage on a house is a massive commitment and probably the biggest
financial decision the average person will make in their lives. While it has a clear advantage
it's also a massive weight on your shoulders to repay that  back every month for over 20 years.

I have a mortgage and have been paying it back for over 15 years and still another 12 to go.

My insights into own a marriage are:
It's a struggle, a big struggle.
I am tied to this place, for the last 15 years I have not been in a position to move because
of negative equity.

Renting gives you a bigger degree of flexibility to move elsewhere, a different country
even.

The way I see it is many people as is their nature overextend their purchasing
of a house to get a loan/mortgage. So many people want simply what they cannot
afford in the long term (I'm also speaking from personal experience!)

The biggest benefit to taking a loan/mortgage is to be able to pass on the house
to sons and daughters.

1571  Economy / Economics / Re: How can we end the *VOLATILITY OF BITCOIN* on: January 24, 2023, 08:24:24 PM
Any time I see someone writing a post discussing how to limit volatility, I tend to assume they either have little concept of price discovery, or understand it but simply don't have any respect for it.  Either way, it seems as though such people are unwittingly asking for market rigging.  Perhaps I just subscribe to a different economic philosophy to most, but I don't think anyone should be in control of that.

It's only a problem when people try to meddle.  Just allow the market to do its thing.

Absolutely!

When you can gain some form of understanding of the way the markets act and
that yes they are volatile, then they will no longer be an issue, or something stressful.

It reads to me like the OP wants a happy Bitcoin utopia where the price either stays
static or constantly increases.
1572  Economy / Economics / Re: Can I take a loan to invest in bitcoin? on: January 24, 2023, 07:38:53 AM
I have taken out FIAT loans in the past and bought Bitcoin, not just Crypto, Bitcoin only!

The first loan is paid off and about 4 months left to pay off the second.

I was able to buy Bitcoin with those loans before the last halving, timing was perfect and
is important, there isn't any point doing this after the halving.

The important thing like with any loan, make sure you are not over stretching your weekly / monthly
budgets or you just won't be able to repay that loan.

IMO best time to get that loan is now, and the usual actions apply after that HODL,
don't succumb to FUD and don't panic. Long term Bitcoin is only going one direction.
1573  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 24, 2023, 07:24:47 AM
I'm really not sure which of the remaining tennis players in the tournament can stop Djokovic on his way to the title. Tsitsipas? I don't think he's ready yet.
You can't beat Djoković in his game which De Minaur proved today. One of the better movers and counter punchers on tour was scrambling to get anything in the match against Djoković. Only way you can win against Djoković in form is to shoot trough him.

Rublev on his day can do that and I actually think he could be a test for Djoković, problem is Rublev has troubles of keeping his levels high and once Djoković enters his head it will be all over. Just hoping Rublev will open strong and give us the match and maybe some juicy odds on Djoković.

It would be great to see Rublev actually win the tournament, he is such a hard worker
and is very hard on himself. His weakness I think is is mental ability....although he showed
strong character to come back in that final set today and win....even with a bit of luck with a
net ball! First he has to get past Djokovic on Wednesday

Of course Djokovic knows all this and will be using it against him for sure.
When someone other than Djokovic wins the title the tournament become more interesting.
In the present scenario it is really hard for anyone to compete against Djokovic and win the title.
Rublev is hard working, but it looks like luck doesn't favour him.
Let's see what's gonna happen with the upcoming matches,
because in recent days more unexpected results gave come out.

Well Djokovic' days are numbered, he cannot keep going, his body will dictate that. He is already
showing signs of that.

Korda had to retire against Khachanov with a wrist injury.

Up next is Tsitsipas v Lehecka and the other quarter final is Shelton v Paul.

Rublev, Tsitsipas and Paul IMO could still trouble Djokovic.
