2741  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Practices for transferriing BTC from exchange to Ledger wallet? on: January 28, 2023, 09:49:43 PM
Q. The biggest risk seems to be accidentally sending the private key instead of the public key. Is that foolproof on modern hardware wallets (e.g., do you have to go through a stupid amount of work to get the private key, making it less likely to screw up) or is there something to watch out for?
You shouldn't keep private key or seed words anywhere online and you should never send them anywhere.
That is possible by using airgapped devices and by keeping seed words written on paper or on stainless steel.
Having hardware wallet will not protect you from stupidity of sending words to some phishing website that will easily steal your coins.

Q. Do public wallet addresses always start with 1 or 3 (which something I'd read)? How many characters long are public keys compared to private ones? Is there some other high confidence way confirm the string is the public key and not the private one?
Bitcoin addresses can start differently:
1 - P2PKH - (Pay 2 Public Key Hash) Legacy format
3 -  P2SH - (Pay 2 Script Hash) Compatibility format
bc1 - Bech32 (Pay 2 Script Hash) Native Segwit format
bc1p - Taproot  (P2TR - Pay To Taproot) Taproot format

Q. What blockchain explorer would you all recommend using?
One of the best explorers is mempool.space but you can use anything you like.
Good list of Bitcoin explorers is available on Jameson Lopp website:
https://www.lopp.net/bitcoin-information/block-explorers.html

Q. Do I need to set-up a full node to do this (i.e., is it really necessary)? If so, should I set up the node on my dedicated computer, or on my regular daily use PC? Does it matter?
If you run your own node than you can run your own mempool.space explorer, so you don't have to trust anyone else about Bitcoin transactions.
Everything is open source and available on their github page, it's not necessary to do it, but it's good for your privacy.

2742  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet creating new addresses. on: January 28, 2023, 09:37:18 PM
What will happen to my Bitcoin if I decide to transfer some sats to the former address?
Your Bitcoin will be joined together and anyone could identify different sources you used to send coins, that can reduce your privacy.
Using same address would be fine if you are receiving Bitcoin from same source, that could be your public donation address that is used to receive payments.
In all other cases you should generate fresh new address and try to do address management with labels for addresses and transactions.
2743  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Krux DIY Hardware Wallet on: January 27, 2023, 07:49:12 PM
Very nice development and also a good quality look for a DIY device!
What always bothers me, is that maybe I can use this device, since I have a lot of experience in this field, but I can never recommend it to somebody because it is simply to complicated. Maybe it is possible to eventually in a few years/month to have a very easy DIY kit of this wallet available for sale.
It's not complicated at all, especially with this new mobile app for testing.
I am not an expert or developer at all, but I managed to flash ESP32 device in few minutes and start Krux wallet without any issues, because you don't need to assemble anything and there are no need for any ''kits''.
You buy any supported device, than you flash a code, verify it, and you are ready to go... it's easy.
2744  Other / Meta / Re: BPIP extention using method in Mobile Browser on: January 27, 2023, 07:43:43 PM
I don't know if there are more similar topics, but for beginners, now I'm showing the image-based process of using BPIP extension on mobile.
It's nice to use BPIP on mobile, but my suggestion is to use separate Kiwi browser with extensions only for bitcointalk forum, because adding extensions on mobile browser is reducing security a lot.
For everything else you can use open source Bromite browser that is one of the best options for Android, or Brave mobile browser as alternative.
Another option is Firefox and Tor mobile app, but they are much less secure on mobile than on desktop.
2745  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Flipper Zero and NFC wallets- is this an issue? on: January 27, 2023, 06:07:17 PM
Wanna buy mine?
No I am not looking to buy this, but if you are selling than tell me how much would you ask for it?
I think I am done buying gadgets for some time, most of gadgets I have are just collecting dust and I don't have real use case for them.  Tongue

PS
I hope some amazing new hardware wallet/gadget won't come out soon and ''force me'' to buy it  Cheesy
2746  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Krux DIY Hardware Wallet on: January 27, 2023, 05:55:29 PM
For anyone who owns old Android smartphone and wants to test Krux app you can do it now with downloading latest version 0.7 APK file from their github page.
Note that this should be used only for learning how Krux works with signing Bitcoin transactions or Nostr events.
Don't use Krux app for storing important keys or larger amount of coins, but you can download and test how everything works:

2747  Economy / Reputation / Re: Request Support (or Opposition) for Flags here! on: January 27, 2023, 04:52:21 PM
I created a flag against member saxydev who violated a written deal made with me, and I was not paid 0.1 Bitcoin like it was agreed.
This member can't be trusted about anything and he was already accused by other members for his suspicious behavior and services.
I am asking from others to support or oppose flag here:

2748  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mulit-asset wallet on Raspberry 4 help please on: January 27, 2023, 04:06:35 PM
Is there anyone using a raspberry Pi 4 to successfully run a multi asset wallet of any kind? Or the 4 GB Ram is the limit affecting this component? I have tried execute atomic wallet and exodus with no success.
First you must have ARM packages or APPImage format for wallet so they could work with your device.
I know that Electrum wallet works just fine in RaspberryPi if you install all required packages, but I didn't try with Atomic and Exodus wallet.
It's much better multicurrency option to use hardware wallet connected with RaspberryPi and I am sure that Trezor Suite is available as ARM and it works with RPi4.

2751  Economy / Reputation / Re: SBF-Ross Ulbricht on: January 26, 2023, 09:58:22 PM
They cannot be compared, but its illogical one is in prison and one is free... If Ross payed for killing, then he should be in prison... for the rest I can see something which started with a good idea, with a lot of freedom etc ....
SBF is a scam from the start and we will never know what exactly happened with politicians etc but for sure a lot happened which hurt lots of people
Like I said, there is nothing logical in this clown world, especially if you are watching mainstream brainwashing all the time.
If you tell the truth exposing politician and governments like some people did in past, they could end up in prison, get killed and ridiculed in movies.
If you lie, cheat and steal nothing will happen with you if you have connection with powerful people, you can even end up as a senile puppet president Cheesy
Research origin of SBF and his family, that will help you understand why he and his case is so different from  Ross Ulbricht.

If the US Federal government announced that the sky is blue, I would be suspicious that it is anything but blue.
It's circus show with (almost) all governments around the world... sad thing is that many people still believe all their bullshit.
2752  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Stack wallet for mobile? on: January 26, 2023, 09:23:58 PM
After doing further tests, I noticed there's an annoying synchronization glitch and bug [e.g. if you try adding different nodes, 7 out of 10 times it works for the mainnet, but I was never able to get it to work for the testnet]!
- Anybody else with a similar experience?
I didn't have issues like that, but I tried running Stack wallet in android emulator and everything worked fine until I went to settings and started to change things there.
After this wallet started crashing randomly so I had to reinstall and reset everything.

While testing this I found out another similar open source multi-currency wallet that respects privacy, it id available for Android/iOS, and its called Elite Wallet.
Elite is supporting Bitcoin, Monero, Litecoin and Haven coin with it's xAssets like xUSD, xEUR, xAG, etc.
Note that is new wallet so only use it for exprimental testing purposes!

2753  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Password Manager Deprecation! on: January 26, 2023, 09:14:04 PM
So many wallet apps have a browser now I'm surprised they haven't done the same with chromium in Suite and completely avoided this.
It's extra work for them and I think they are now focused most of their resources for new generation hardware wallet with their new secure element.
I don't know how many people in total are using Trezor Password Manager, but this is not brining them any additional profit and many people never even heard about it.
If I remember correctly ledger hardware wallet should also have password manager, and I am not sure if any other devices have something similar.

I've used both. For completely offline use KeePass is just fine. For those who want a password manager with a server for multiple devices/platforms, ..I do like Bitwarden and it's open source too.
Of course, everybody should be careful what's he's storing on the internet.
Bitwarden is not bad but I don't want to use any cloud service aka other people computer, so I would only used it as self hosted.
2754  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be careful with saxydev; he is a possible scammer on: January 26, 2023, 07:53:13 PM
Come on, you didn't realistically expected him to pay, didn't you?
Do you like to repeat same thing that LoyceV asked me or you don't understand answer I already wrote to him before?
Please don't make me write the same thing again, it's simple, we had a public deal agreement that he accepted, than he tried to evade and eventually he didn't honor his word.
If you don't agree with me than you can always support saxydev flag:

2755  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 26, 2023, 06:34:35 PM
What kind of software wallet would a hardware wallet connect to when paired with a mobile device? I am struggling to come up with apps, as there are only say half-a-dozen vetted and open-source mobile wallets on iOS/Android in total and the rest cannot really be trusted.
Most hardware wallet have their own apps, Passport have Envoy app, Bitbox wallet have Bitbox app, Ledger have their own ledger app, Jade is using Green wallet, OneKey is usine OneKey app, Keystone have Keystone Companion App, etc.
Trezor is currently connected with their web app, but new Trezor mobile app will be released soon.
Some software mobile wallets work with multiple hardware wallets, for example Blue Wallet, Nunchuk, Simple Bitcoin Wallet, Green wallet, etc.
2756  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Trezor Password Manager Deprecation! on: January 26, 2023, 04:24:50 PM
I just received email from Trezor that their official Password Manager will no longer be maintained after June 30, 2023.
This was probably done because Chrome is making big changes in their browser and Trezor developers don't have enough resources to keep up with this.
If you used Trezor for this purpose than it's time to think about migration to other applications, and Trezor provided instructions for that on their website.
Click on your user name and select Export storage, and you will find them in file trezor-export.csv.

https://trezor.io/learn/a/trezor-password-manager

Trezor first suggesting for replacement is Bitwarden, but I would strongly suggest you first try KeePass or some of it's forks like KeePassXC for desktop and KeePassDX for mobile
They are all open source and they work perfectly without use of any centralized server.
Don't use LastPass that was hacked several times, and I see Trezor still have them listed on their website!

Trezor Password Manager is open source app and there is always a chance someone could fork it and continue maintaining it:

2757  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Know any laptop wallets that have Google 2FA login? on: January 26, 2023, 03:58:37 PM
Also should have multichain capability to send USDT, USDC, DAI to and from exchanges like Binance, Kucoin etc
Non-custodial wallets don't have any login options or accounts, with or without 2fa.
If you are using anything that have some kind of login option than that is not a wallet, but exchange with custodial app.
Only multicurrency wallet I know that have something called d2FA was called Zelcore.io, but I am not suggesting this wallet for keeping bigger amount of coins.
Zelcore have some kind of accounts but I think they are somehow connected with blockchain and they work without centralized servers.
2758  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 1inch Network's HW on: January 25, 2023, 10:34:32 PM
Judging from "these samples", I think the keyboard typing experience would be a nightmare [specifically referring to the "enter your pin code" window] for those who have fat fingers [I don't think the "change keyboard" option would significantly improve the situation].
Size of this device is like credit card so I am sure it will be easier to type than on Trezor Model T and on ledger two buttons system.
If you want hardware wallet devices that is easy to type on I would choose Passport , ColdCard or Keystone hardware wallet.

They did mention it'll be open-source in both of the links OP provided:
Thank you for correcting me, I missed that information somehow, and it's weird this was not clearly stated on their official website.
If this is true than I am expecting someone to fork this and add support for Bitcoin after they release it.
2759  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 25, 2023, 10:28:23 PM
You're very welcome... Unfortunately, I can't think of a single word to replace the above terms, but perhaps we could remove the "adapter" part [it would still be user-friendly].
- If you're looking for a way to reduce the width of the table, I think we can also remove the "wireless" column.
I removed some words to make everything less wide, and I think people will understand what MicroUSB/USB-C means, it can be both adapter and OTG cable.

How about add Satochip and Satodime ?
Well, Satodime is not a hardware wallet because you can't sign using the device. It's more like an Opendime on steroid. Like a bearer cold storage solution.
But Satochip is a hardware wallet and is NFC enable. Today you can't use it with your smartphone cuz we dont have develop the mobile app part - yet. But it will come later this year !
Oh I knew this was coming, I think someone predicted you would ask me about this Cheesy
Sure I can add Satochip if it can be connected with smartphone, otherwise you will have to wait until mobile app is released.
You can post more information below if there is some workaround for mobile connection, but I won't add Satodime and similar devices in this table.
2760  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: January 25, 2023, 10:16:48 PM
I own a de Googled Android phone.  My only app store is F-Droid, which only publishes fully Open Source applications.
You can also use open source AuroraStore if you want to use some apps that are not open source, and there are good alternatives for F-Droid as well, like IzzyOnDroid and Droid-ify that have more apps.
Good option is to install apps directly from github source, it can be set up to auto-update as well with some workarounds, and that way you can install most Bitcoin wallets.

Then the Wallets available for Bitcoin were very lacking too.  Annoying as fuck.
I don't know what degoogled phone you own, but Pixels with GrapheneOS work almost with everything, they even have imitation of all google services.

My experience with Unstoppable Wallet is mostly extremely positive.  It lacks a few things here and there.  But I see improvements every update.  All the issues I had with it were solved within one to three updates.
It's important to mention that Unstoppable wallet is audited several times, and WalletScrutiny verified it can be reproduced from open source code.
Good thing is that I see new wallets are coming out that following similar path, and competition is always good to have.
