1881  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 36 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature on: May 18, 2023, 07:20:25 PM
But I don't think it is a huge problem, right? I mean, it's not like Ledger where everything is closed-source, it's certainly better than that.
There is no such thing as semi-open source or little-open source wallet.
Either something is open source or not, and ColdCard is NOT open source device, we already had this discussion at it was proven several times.
NVK (ColdCard owenr) was missleading people for a while with Open Source label on their website, but they had to change it later to Verifiable Source Code.

Here is before and After photos:

It's even worse that same ColdCard used Trezor open source code before that and they didn't credit that, until someone publicly posted about that  Roll Eyes
It's not that ColdCard is bad wallet, but with egoistic hypocrites like NVK I simply refuse to give them any slack.

Common Clause license:
Quote
Is this “Open Source”?
- No.
https://commonsclause.com/

I explored all the hardware wallets checkouts and added the different supported payment methods to https://wallets.thebitcoinhole.com
Are all hardware wallets also accepting payments in Bitcoin mainnet?
I see, several wallets (sledger included) don't accept Bitcoin payments and they expect people to purchase them for storing BTC  Roll Eyes
1882  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger Nano X Circus (Battery, Recover and more) on: May 18, 2023, 07:11:15 PM
As if there wasn't enough reasons already to stop using ledger nono X, with all their battery crap and closed source shenanigans, now this device is the first one to support terrible rec0ver feature.
They silently made firmware update that included this crap and later they announced it with biggest negative reaction from community I ever saw in my life.
Keys extraction from secure element is possible, and seed phrase is sent to other company partners, making this a hot wallet.
Don't think or assume that ledger nono s and s plus are safe, just because they don't have new firmware yet.

What to do next?

1. If you already own ledger nono X, DON'T update new firmware!
2. If you still have valid warranty you can ask for refund and send them back your device (reset and move funds before that).
3. If your warranty expired, move coins to different wallet and stop using ledger (optionaly you can destroy it with hammer or tool of your choice).
4. Complain to ledger, force them to reverse this decision and to open source their code.
5. Never trust ledger again.

1883  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Are there any smartphones out there that are hard wallets too? on: May 18, 2023, 03:42:22 PM
Pixel 5 used price is still around $300
Dude I don't know what are you talking about and where you live, but I can find used Pixel 5 and 5a much cheaper, even Pixel 6a in good condition is below $300
Please check prices worldwide before you make some claims like this, and prices can be even cheaper for people who live in United States.
Models with A letter are smaller, made from plastic and have weaker camera but they are still good enough for GrapheneOS degoogled phone.

Never installed Graphene OS or LineageOS, CalyxOS, Divest, etc. Maybe later I can install one of them.
It takes few minutes to install everything, but you need to have minimal knowledge with system installation on other devices.

Rather than having to use a hardware wallet like LEDGER, I'd rather choose my own smartphone to be a custom hardware wallet that I can fully control LOL.
I don't want to rent a lot against ledger, I think I proved that I was correct when I criticized them in last few years, beacuse I had a feeling things are going in this direction  Tongue
1884  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 35 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature on: May 17, 2023, 08:59:30 PM
All are open-source
Sorry but ColdCard does NOT have open source devices anymore, but they have inflated NKV ego instead, and they use Commons Clause license   Tongue

Added Specter DIY to the website. Now comparing 36 different Hardware Wallets, feature by feature.
Since you started adding DIY devices, you can consider adding Krux wallet.
This project is smaller than SeedSigner or Specter, but it's very affordable and base device M5StickV looks very similar like Jade wallet and Maix Amigo is amazing.
You can find more information about Krux in my topic:

PS
Nice work collecting all recent anti-ledger discounts  Cool
1885  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: AirGap wallet- Self custody made simple and secure - Protect your crypto offline on: May 17, 2023, 08:45:03 PM
We just launched AirGap Knox: AirGap Knox is the final piece of the puzzle for AirGap Vault
This looks interesting, and I would consider testing how this works with another older smartphone device I have, but than I saw this should be paid $35.90 and I am not sure if source code can be verified.

Can AirGap Knox be installed on any Android devices, included devices with custom ROM's or Pixel phones that operate with GrapheneOS (not that I would do that), or stock Android must be used?
Correct me if I am wrong but I think we can achieve something similar to disable everything on software level, and for little more money we can already buy brand new hardware wallets.
One more question... can AirGap Knox be removed from device and how?
1886  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Are there any smartphones out there that are hard wallets too? on: May 17, 2023, 08:28:18 PM
Graphene OS looks good, I just found out about it.
But it officially only supports Google Pixel and the latest one already supports Google Pixel 7 Series.
Yes, but you can buy older Pixel devices that are still updated on regular basis, something like Pixel 5 is fairly cheap and affordable for most people.
There are other alternatives for Graphene OS that work with other Android devices but they are inferior compared to GOS and updates are not so frequent.
LineageOS, CalyxOS, Divest, etc are all fine and open source, but support for other Android devices is not great, and they often get broken with new updates.

1887  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum air gapped device on: May 17, 2023, 08:20:56 PM
Can a well set up electrum wallet on an air gapped device be considered to be as secured as a hardware wallet?
There is no universal answer on this questions and it all depends on you how you set everything up, but in theory it can be compared with hardware wallets if done correctly.
There are several issues if you decide to go with airgapped computer, you need to properly install fresh operating system and never again connect it to other network.
Normal computers have a much bigger attack surface and there are more mistakes someone can do to compromise their security.
1888  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Flipper Zero - Multi-tool for Hackers & Pentesters - Like New on: May 17, 2023, 07:32:03 PM
Yes and Yes! Shoot me a PM.
I will think about it.
There are other things I need to buy before that first, but there is always for for more gadgets at my place  Cheesy

Why are you selling it for double what it's worth? When it's readily available from multiple retailers for 180$?
Can you buy it using Bitcoin on those retailers?
Price is around $200 on official website (with shipping) but you can only pay with fiat currencies as far as I know.
1889  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Wearing Double signature (Shan85) on: May 17, 2023, 07:17:04 PM
LoL
I can understand people are poor and they need money, but I will never understand someone who is cheating and doing stupid stuff like this.

Did anyone saw latest post from Shan85 in Pakistan board?
I will just post it with a title in English since rest of the text is written in his native language.

1890  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk [STATUS: UPLOAD ON] on: May 17, 2023, 07:08:16 PM
The only size limitation is the one that already exists in the BitcoinTalk proxy: 2.5MB per image.
Maybe you can automatically reduce image size with compression when people upload bigger size images.
This can help saving server resources and it would comply with forum rules, in addition with manual image resize done by uploaders.

EDIT:
I see you already added in roadmap Automatic file conversion system and Possibility to define the size Wink
1891  Other / Meta / Re: [TOOL] Bitcoin data API to use in bitcointalk as images on: May 17, 2023, 06:57:56 PM
The reason is that some users just make the forum background black. Those users will simple don't see the image if who posted uses ?color=black in the endpoint.
Correct.
I think currently used neutral gray color is very good, unless someone is using exactly the same gray color shade for forum theme, but this would be very rear.
One easy alternative option is to use inverted colors in cases when images can't be seen.
1892  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos - Time to update the current Ledger situaion @ Important Announcements? on: May 17, 2023, 06:30:11 PM
I guess, it would be worthwhile to give an update in Important Announcements and link it below the forum menu as Important Announcement for Ledger Users.
I don't think we need to have any ann in forum for that, everyone already knows what happened with ledger, and I was spreading truth about ledger for years  Cheesy

I didn't look into this deeply, but my understanding is that it's opt-in. Do we know that people using Ledger are being put at significant additional risk just by upgrading their firmware, if they don't opt into any backup stuff?
Nobody knows what the heck is going on in that closed source black box, and they publicly admitted that encrypted shards will be sent to different companies (read partners) but people can choose to opt out.
Problem is that we don't know how all this crap works, since everything is closed sourced, so we have to trust their hidden encryption, and people will have to perform some kind of KYC and send personal documents.
They are also forcing firmware update that includes this ''feature'' so you can't escape this if you are using ledger nano X (for now).

This is what ledger co-founder aka reddit moderator btchip said:

1893  Other / Meta / Re: Poll on solving the imgur issue on: May 17, 2023, 06:21:41 PM
There are a lot of broken imgur links. How do you think this should be resolved? I've come up with these possible solutions:
None of the four solutions you offered is ideal but if I had to choose one of them I would select second option to make all imgur links clickable and keep some privacy.

There was a lot of talk of turning all imgur links into TalkImg links, or maybe even imgbb, but we don't know if imgbb will do something similar in future, and I am not sure TalkImg can handle a lot of traffic yet.
In ideal situation I would prefer if we could just replace all imgur images, but I don't think it's that simple.
1894  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where do you buy a hardware wallet - online or offline? on: May 17, 2023, 06:07:49 PM
As the title says, I was wondering where to buy a hardware wallet to store your bitcoin.
One thing is sure, don't buy anything from ledger website and related with ledger wallet!
They are assholes who several times leaked customer information, they are closed source, and now they sold all their customers with sending seed phrases to their partners.
It's best to buy other open source hardware wallets on official websites, or even better to pay with cash in local reseller shop, without leaving any personal information online.
Cheapest option is to make your own DIY wallet or use old computer/smartphone for coldish storage.

"Crni petak" za kupnju hardverskog (čitaj "ne ledger") novčanika.  Cheesy
Dobra lista sa popustima, a mislim da je napravio i skupio ga je maxirosson sa foruma, on ima i dobru stranicu za hardverske novčanike:

Vidim da si ažurirao listu  Smiley ali može još mala korekcija, za ColdCard Mk3 i Mk4 napiši da nisu više open source, i dodaj novi ColdCard Q1 (kao i 1inch i KeyPal Plus):

1896  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: May 17, 2023, 02:33:40 PM

1897  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: May 16, 2023, 09:03:41 AM
If anyone is wondering how can an entity destroy the concept of their own products - in this case by exporting the seed phrase to outside entities, even if it is encrypted - then wait no more because Ledger will launch their new service, Ledger Recover
What a piece of shit they are!
Just when I thought ledger can't get any worse... they release this ''revolutionary'' stupid idea  Roll Eyes
Let me guess what happened here, someone with big capital invested a bunch of money in one of their several seed round funding (last one was in 2022 I think), and now those investors want to profit and get money back with this ''deal''.
Everything around ledger is closed source, but they ask us to believe them that everything will be safu encrypted and sent for safu keeping, they can't be serious...
€50,000 ($55,000) is covered and safu says the people from ledger, oh c'mon man, give me a break!

It's finally time to stop using ledger and switch to other open source alternatives, maybe even making your own DIY device or getting back to old laptop/phone as a cold storage.

PS
Just reading all the ledger reddit and twitter posts now... and oh boy customers are pissed, confused and very angry about this ''news''!  Cheesy
1898  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite Lite for mobile on: May 15, 2023, 06:10:04 PM
So it looks like Trezor has released a new (watch-only) mobile app, that allows to:
I saw the news and I think it's stupid to release something like this that is half-finished, while all their competition already have fully working applications already.
There did say something like, oh but we are working very hard on making this app a full-featured mobile wallet blablabla...
1899  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ultimate Bitcoin Privacy - Discussion on: May 15, 2023, 06:02:19 PM
There are 3 main types of privacy solutions/techniques available today on Bitcoin, each one having its own advantages/disadvantages:
There are more options available for Bitcoin privacy, some of them are available today and others are work in progress.
Maybe you could include them in your report and investigate them more and try to learn from their examples to improve whirlwind in future.
Bitcoin drivechain could be used in future but I think we need to see upgrade on Bitcoin for that to be fully possible, just wondering, if we can have stupid ordinals why can't we have this as well?  Roll Eyes

Everyone knows about Lightning Network that can partially function for improving Bitcoin privacy, but if you didn't hear until now, there is wallet called Mercury that is using Layer 2 with statechains:
https://mercurywallet.com/

EDIT:
I forgot to add confidential transactions on Liquid layer2 and others:

1900  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Off-chain mixers on: May 15, 2023, 05:52:14 PM
I am searching for off-chain type of mixer/échanger service. Any recommendations for moi?
You can use anything on second layer (Mercury wallet, confidential transactions in Liquid), sidechains or Lightning Network that works something like off-main-chain mixing.
Transaction like BTC-XMR-BTC can also be considered similar as off btc-chain mixing, but they are not totally off chain.
