381  Economy / Reputation / Re: Use your skills and patience; but do your fucking research. on: September 24, 2020, 04:13:20 PM
Perhaps we should start opposing flags based on telegram screenshot "evidence" as being "at least partially false".
At a minimum not supporting these flags, when there is a reasonable doubt. It all comes back to due diligence, and making an informed decision rather than simply reacting. I didn't even get to read through the initial evidence, I simply read the OP last night and made a point to go back to look into it further this morning; mostly because it stood out to me in "Currency Exchange".

Especially when it comes to flags, they are permanently on an account. theymos made this very clear from the start, with that there should be more care taken when creating and supporting/opposing them.

The weight certain evidence carries will vary from user to user. Sometimes screenshots are all there will be and I think it should play out something like this. "Evidence" is presented, both parties come and say their piece in the thread, conclusions can be drawn, or even a lack of definite judgement is achieved. Either way it's better than jumping to conclusions and negatively impacting the investigation/situation.

This could have gone much worse at that. I don't blame Tedfrost for their expletive laced response to the thread, being falsely accused. The problem there is how often does that generally make them look like the guilty party? It generally leads to an instant backlash and further skews the public opinion of guilt. I'm glad that a few yesterday did check things out and that JollyGood retracted so soon, but was fairly upset looking at the situation this morning.

Thanks
383  Economy / Reputation / Use your skills and patience; but do your fucking research. on: September 24, 2020, 02:44:41 PM
While I am writing this in regards to a specific case this is a universal request. It's not uncommon for DT members to pick up the cause for a scorned member of lower rank and help elevate their case for community attention/warnings. The problem lies in anyone jumping to conclusions and acting on that before attempting to fully understand the entirety of the situation. I think it's a pretty good idea if there is suspicion but aren't sure to open a topic for community involvement and information gathering. It's completely different to open up an accusatory thread on limited or wrong information and/or just fling accusations to see what sticks.

Now I am writing this based on the  information I have at the moment, which includes a retraction post, now unsupported flag, removed feedback.

User Tedfrost essentially faced the worst scenario for trade/escrow. Attempting an honest trade, facing attempted scam and then being accused and judged as the scammer.

The scammer recruited a scambusting DT member to pick up their cause and Ted loses it and the forum is essentially dead to them now. This isn't about the level of activity the account has. It's minimal and at first glance doesn't seem an account worth saving or having. Hell it resembles a million accounts that do come here to scam, limited posting and only looking to trade, a gift card being one of them of all things.

Not the point. They were an account that was here, making use of the forum in their way, and now doesn't even see the value in coming here for that. They weren't here spamming away  or solely here for earning, they came here to help move crypto along using it in their way.

The damage is done, so I'm guessing this should just be a learning experience for the entire community. Let's not get lazy in researching things before labelling people's accounts. I'm not sure what JollyGood did in the end, but simply editing the post, and locking it from discussion seems to be the least one could do and almost feels like sweeping it under the rug. At a minimum I hope you sent the account a PM, expressing your sincerest regrets.
384  Other / Meta / Re: Should we post for members or guests? on: September 23, 2020, 09:17:33 PM
I would just take comfort and some pride in the fast that your topics and/or discussions have directed random internet traffic towards your content. People only sign-up or post if there is a need. Whether it be additional information or a desire to delve into the discussion themselves.
I have a few purely informative threads in mining that have been stickied. They were created with the sole purpose of providing that specific information, not necessarily with discussion or specific groups in mind. I am positive though that they've been used by a large number of guests to access information. There have been the odd new account that posts in one of the threads, but I don't know if any ever really continued on with the forum.

Okay sorry for the late update... actually had to do some work last night. Unbelievable  Tongue

A couple strong finishes and anyone can still make it to the final. See everyone this weekend, I think I'm free but it's a weekend at home so who knows. Very unreliable unlike work  Cheesy

Looking sick Globb0, I feel like there needs to be a shrine to Magners in there somewhere.

Congratulations to that Top 4 in the money, but the special game was given by the absentee Wink
~snip~
Looking good thanks for these. Looking forward to the final 10. I'm curious do these pick up chat if there is any. Just wondering for reasons.  Cool
386  Other / Meta / Re: Can't debunk a persons points? is it acceptable to demand the discussion stops? on: September 22, 2020, 01:48:07 AM
This is simple. Given all the big words you used it must have been too simple a solution; which can happen with the super intellectual from time to time.

"Report to Moderator" - If the post contributed nothing to the discussion, only demands people not discuss this and/or only posts an image that doesn't relate to the core topic and/or direct side topics of discussion.

Moderators will decide. No need for Big Brain Time

Thanks for tonight! 3 Big blinds and a dream! Cheesy
~snip~

Yeah, this cooler was hard.. thought I was dead with the next few hands, but  luckily I could recover and managed to beat Steamtyme in the Heads-Up.
Was afraid of him because he was sunrunning tonight!
And thanks again that you lend me the chips for this tourney! Smiley
Roll Eyes I would hardly call my day a sun run.... says the guy going from 3BB to top spot for the day. Congratulations.

I had my fair share of knockouts but I also doubled up at least 5 people in my quest for their chips. So many spots I was ahead pre that just couldn't hold, but that's to be expected in the old 60/40 spots.

Favorite hand of the day was the ever polite efialitis apologizing to me for 4-bet jamming their TT into my AA.  Wink ;)Made sure to let him know there was no need to apologize. Bounced around a bunch and managed to get heads-up ~20K against s33ker and their 53K.

Took the lead once, but a couple of chopped pots I was ahead on kept me from getting the upperhand, and my truest of fashions I put it all (less 6K) on the line chasing the open ended straight flush draw I flopped against your flopped 2 pair Q6, all the outs in the world couldn't get me there.

See you next week. Great game everybody.
Congrats, @seek3r(str8flush), on taking down the tournament!

Congrats, @Steamtyme, @TikTikLyfe(arallmuus) and @mollok(kolloh), on finishing In The Money!
Can't wait for the next tournament! Smiley
Thanks catch you next time. I'm also curious why you laid down the 99 - was it a 3-bet pot??

I have updated finishes for yesterday, and will organize the standings tonight, Im switching dayshift to nightshift so my patterns and schedule are screwy for today.
388  Economy / Gambling / Re: #4 Bitcointalk Poker Series @ SwC Poker (0.06 BTC, BIG BTC Ticket by SwC) on: September 20, 2020, 08:00:04 PM
i'm getting unpacked and enjoying the new place but......when it rains it pours. i got up to register for today's game and noticed my cat is really sick. her breathing is labored. i'm at the vet with her right now. fingers crossed it's just a passing thing. we have had a whole lot of wildfire smoke in the air. that may have to do with it.
missing a 3rd week in a row of our series. Sad
hopefully i can recover in the standings!
Damn hope your feline friend starts feeling better. Things are still pretty tight so anything can happen in the final leg of the series.

Thanks for everyone who joined the stream.
Im working out a few techy things but on the whole it was fun so lets see how we go next week.
Sorry for any amatureness oh and and nose picking.   lol
Smiley
Thanks for hosting the stream. Gave me the opportunity to watch someones reaction as I crush them.  Tongue
It was a blast chatting with you. Looking forward to the next one as well. Don't forget the delay lol

Pick away lol. I enjoyed hearing you crush cans in the background.  Cheesy

Silence... I will be playing tonight, I guess that's the reason?  Cool
Just a young seal here splashing around... no trap ever I promise. Splashy Splashy Splashy

Sorry a bit light on chips for SwC at the moment. Im more than happy to help when I can.
Still, anyone who is feeling too nervous to join in. Maybe you like to watch instead.
Here is the link
https://www.twitch.tv/globb0
So i tried and,  I can watch you at work lol. All I here as I type this in the background is you crushing cans. Go get em.
Edit: Nice setup going looks god.

Good luck all.

congrats on taking it down yesterday, @Steamtyme.
fingers crossed, i'll have internet again after today so i should be back next weekend. i'm going out of town on work next week but i think i'll still be around sunday, tentatively anyway. this is turning out to be one hell of a month......
Thanks hope the move went well, and you can start enjoying your new pad.
390  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Minimizing variance on dice over X number of bets on: September 14, 2020, 10:21:46 PM
Why are you asking that?
I don't see the point in minimizing variance.
By minimizing it, the only thing you can be sure of is that you will lose money.
If there is more variance, you are more likely to make money, although you are also more likely to lose more than you would by minimizing the variance.
As I say, I don't see it.
For me the best way is not to play EV- games. That way, you reduce the variance to 0 and make sure you don't lose money.
Given your name look at it like a bounty tournament. There is a one time shot at an additional prize for a hand, the Bounty (Prize for winning wagering contest), you will play a wider range but not just any 2 cards, so making a -EV decision (playing dice).

It's not a spot you would normally put yourself in but if you can study and create a strategy it can still be profitable by minimizing the variance as best you can but at the same time increasing the potential prize in the end. Like I said not shoving any 2 cards but maybe adding in some off suite connectors that are normally a losing decision in the long run.

Not much you can do put put in the work with that dice simulator and spreadsheet that's going on. Reading your original post it made me think of Pio solver for poker; that and the old show Deadliest Warrior. Run the simulations with as much known data, as possible. Then re-run the simulation itself numerous times to get a better idea of outlier results. It's gonna be some work but should give you a good understanding of sizing to use. Then if you get creative look at a mixed strategy, to figure out when it makes sense to adjust the multiplier based on your performance at say the half way point or any other point that the results might say is ideal to switch it up.

Given you will be limited in the number of bets I can't imagine that a static betting strategy would be the best strategy. That's why I think you'll want to come up with a "if this, than that" approach at a few intervals based on whether you are up or down to make adjustments based on that moment to try and right the path and limit your risk.
391  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying BTC with an Amex Credit Card on: September 14, 2020, 09:03:32 PM
You are likely SOL. Especially not wanting to go through any P2P options.

Best bet is to take a cash advance from your AMEX - assuming you aren't planning on leaving this balance on there. This will open up more options for you. Other than that you can't do much as a lot of businesses don't like AMEX because they charge the highest fees for business owners; I remember paying 1-1.5% more than other credit cards I accepted. So unless you are going to get a different credit card that is accepted by exchanges you won't be buying at this time.

Everything else is P2P in some way shape or form

392  Economy / Gambling / Re: #4 Bitcointalk Poker Series @ SwC Poker (0.06 BTC, BIG BTC Ticket by SwC) on: September 14, 2020, 07:28:38 PM
I remember that hand! Wow you had for of a kind Qīs??? Lucky me, I played AK, the flop was K, Q and a low number which i donīt really remember.
So you have been in front on the flop already, when the 2nd Q wouldnt come on the board I probably would have lost everything  Grin Grin
Anyway, I just play bullshit last tournaments - dunno what is wrong with me :-/
Yeah it's nice seeing 4 of a kind but it did make I couldn't really think of a way to get paid anymore on the river. Though that board was so connected It was nice knowing I had the nuts.
I would say you are playing fine, you folded out top top instead of calling down and losing your stack. Not much you can do before that to get away.

I have updated the spreadsheet for finishes. Still a tight race.

393  Economy / Gambling / Re: #4 Bitcointalk Poker Series @ SwC Poker (0.06 BTC, BIG BTC Ticket by SwC) on: September 13, 2020, 09:44:51 PM
Guys! Thanks to everyone for  support!
*in
Congrats and welcome. Glad you made it in. I wasn't around early and had to register on the highway lol. Had a fishtank emergency and had to drive 2 hours to get my daughter a heater for her little Beta fish.

Glad I made it back though. As Iv4n might say score one for the bad guy today. I took it down today but no one made it easy.

Out on 13th, I was playing so bad tonight. With only 14 people, it should be 'easy' to secure atleast 1 point. SteamTyme best me out on that play, I wasnt really expecting pocket ace . I think of few possibilities of his potential hands but pocket ace never came into my thought,
Goodluck to everyone !  Wink
I had to play the player in this hand. I can't remember all the details but I think you limped in and I was one of the blinds. I was hoping you had a strong hand as I've been caught by you limping those a few times. Decided to keep with the slow play a bit and got lucky you hit top pair on the board.

I had some great hands today that actually got paid. I hit Quad Q's against 1ron1c I believe, the board was so wet I couldn't risk them just checking back on the river so I bet out half pot and they thought about it and folded. I'm assuming it was something like AK, but there were flush draws and straight draws that also hit, and the paired board.

Then there was my Iv4n suckout, negating his straight on the river. I almost folded to your 1500 chip bet on the turn; if I only had the flush draw I was going to fold, but with the straight draw added in I couldn't pass it up. Like any true villain I willed my 3 outer 9 and took it down.

Solid final table today. I rolled into heads-up with a massive chip deficit, 20K VS. 40K ish, managed to get to even stacks then it was a battle with each of us gaining and losing fairly equally. Final hand wound up being my AQd against their A9s, I can't remember if they opened and I 3-bet or if they limped and I raised, either way I believe they jammed and I called.

I'll update the spreadsheet this evening. Great game again today everybody.
394  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Taking Profits/Stacking Sats on: September 10, 2020, 06:49:37 PM
It can be extremely profitable. There is a tendency for people to wait out of greed and see how high a pump goes, but in my experience that usually doesn't end well.
Lack of order book depth usually cuts both ways. Consider doing this on both sides of the book. On the buy side, we call them "stink bids." Cheesy
~snip~
You don't want to be stuck holding fiat during a bubble!
Well this past week, if I had something set up I likely would have made at least one buy. I did however get something done manually before everything tanked off for a bit there. My first buy was at 3X so I took out my investment, and on the drop used that to DCA a different coin, almost caught it's low.

Apart from that I'm going to be funneling some FIAT in for more BTC, and play it by ear for the next month or so.

OP, you can try indexing with this index builder, https://pandaanalytics.com/index
It can help you allocate how much of each cryptocurrency to own in your portfolio, and can guide you to resize each allocation based on profitability and volatility.
Hmm looks neat. I might check it out if I keep up with trading into the future. Most of my coins are of the potential "bag holder" variety. I'll either win or lose but they may become something that builds up more of a trading market in the future.
Doing this manually is hard to be honest.
OP can develop his own bots to track markets. It is not that tough and AFAIK, he has knowledge on coding.
Nope. Tried to learn coding in my spare time but couldn't find a resource that I was a good fit for me. Still interests me and might be something I dabble with again in the future.
Leverage and Spot are two different ballgames. If OP is new to trading I would suggest them Spot obviously and to stick to Spot later on because I feel it is the more safer of the two. Leverage and Margin just adds in more mental stress, which is important to minimize if you want to start healthy in this game.

Stick to bitcoins would be my advice. Time and again we have seen it prove it resilience in the same and if bought at good lows it can give good returns.
I did look into the leverage and margin side of things and decided it just wasn't for me. This is going to be a rather passive and lazy adventure for me. There are certainly markets out there I could have given it a go in, but I'm not looking to examine charts daily or hourly. Just a guy looking to grab bags and attempt to make profits

Had a good laugh this past week. I do generally tell people if I'm buying something wait a few days it will get cheaper. Most are on the mend, and are back to nearly my entry point.  Wink I'm also definitely not getting out of BTC, just expanding my portfolio a bit.
395  Other / Meta / Re: Express thoughts about B&H and rank and merit system on: September 10, 2020, 06:30:45 PM
Good initiatives but such threads should be on Scam Accusations.
I would have to disagree. This should be one of the first boards a complete newbie winds up on. One of the best things they can see are the myriad of ways that people are trying to take your sats. Regardless that these methods can be very similar or even exact copies of older scams; the majority of the world isn't on the look out for these situations anyways.

Scam accusations is better suited when you can actually point to an individual/business/brand not necessarily a scam tactic.

The thing I would like to see more in B&H over an apparent attempt to improve post quality; is factual information. I try to drop into B&H as I genuinely like assisting people and it's one of the best places to find people in need. The last couple times though I've been seeing posts that are fairly well constructed but are so factually flawed you would think it was a joke. It's no help to anybody if the main improvement is quality of layout and appearance built on BS information.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5269702.msg55020455#msg55020455 - complete copy of a medium article regarding top PoS coins for 2020
it is now an eight page discussion that is started with completely plagiarized article from medium network
First no need to ever create a reputation thread, when it's as simple as report to moderator " Plagiarism" from <Insert link>"

Seeing as you might be on a path of cleaning up the forum I'll mention this. If anywhere you come across a thread that is longer than 4 or 5 pages, there's a good chance it's well on it's way to becoming a spam mega thread. I used to read the first couple pages then it was rather easy to report anyone generally posting within the last week (Campaign payment period). This was generally <Sig Spam - Redundant repetitive content> or something along those lines. I would also request the thread be locked if there wasn't anything of value in the last few pages.

This was when I had very long uneventful nightshifts and could bang out 60-100 reports in an evening. Generally stopping because of the mind numbing dribble I had to read over and over. there is no shortage of reportable posts.
397  Other / Meta / Re: I know exactly when I will rank up! on: September 10, 2020, 05:55:26 PM
I can think of another dick move: theymos could introduce a new Rank above Legendary right now, that requires twice the Activity you needed to become Legendary. All this just to mess with Steamtyme
I'd have to be honored if anyone put any effort into something for the sole purpose of screwing with little ol me. I'm all about the little dick moves... more of a prick move than anything; and I'm never going to give them up.  Wink

Congrats OP. Always a fun time rolling over the odometer.

Hello All. Gamerwin123 is my username on bitcointalk and on swc it is gamerwin125. I will send 400 chips for the next event as soon as I know whether I will be able to play or not. Add me to the spreadsheet
If I see you there this weekend I'll add you in for sure. I update everyones finish and standing sometime in the evening after he tournament completes. Welcome to the series.

Some good news for all you fish... I will be missing Sunday's game since it's my best friend's birthday and he invited us - social obligations...  Roll Eyes Grin
Good for you though as you should have realized by now that series #4 is gonna be mine!  Wink
Well, the main reason I am sharing this with you is for everybody to know that I will not be able to send passwords etc. on Sunday - we/you have always found a turnaround and I am confident it will work just fine. Smiley
I see get scared... beg friend to host throw a B-day party, I bet next week it will be Papous and Yayas anniversary  Tongue

Best watch out for the ... Shark... Attack   Grin

Actually I just got the call from hospital if I can come for procedure tomorrow and I took it. If all goes according to the plan I should be just 2 days in hospital. So I should be home Sunday and maybe I even manage to make it for the tournament.
Best of luck with the surgery and hopefully a speedy recovery.
