1381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are big Bitcoin miners not destroying Alt coins with a 51% attack? on: August 10, 2019, 02:02:37 PM
This is the best answer below. I don't put it past any large entity in mining to have a moral compass that would turn away the opportunity to stomp out competition. In this case there isn't any competition really, and who knows how many of these potential bad actors are still holding onto their forked, BCH. That's like burning a wallet full of foreign currency because you hate the country.

As it stands there are enough farms out there to easily screw with the BCH network at last check they sit under 2 EH for the entire network. Asics make it so you can't just bounce around different Algo's. Your topic is exactly why no one will launch a brand new Sha-256 coin, the network would not be secure and you couldn't grow the project. If you look into alt coins it becomes a bit more tricky as there is no shortage of GPU's out there and the market is significantly more cutthroat as people chase profits. It doesn't matter what your project is it's probably forked and renamed within a week if it has legs and that's when competition starts looking at how to harm the competitor.
I'm not sure what a Bitcoin farm could attack other than BCH or BSV and they may prefer to keep those alive as an option for future short term profit. What other SHA 256 coins are there worth paying attention to? TheresaMayCoin doesn't have a bright future.

Being newer here this post might help improve your sales thread.[WTS] Posting guidelines for physical goods

I couldn't get your image to load, but you will want to take one with a handwritten note and the date. Please also specify if you will be using forum trusted escrow. Who covers shipping and what price you are looking for. Good luck
1383  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Whatsminer M20S 65 TH model on: August 10, 2019, 01:20:47 PM
Yes and don't forget it's also currently being used.
Much like ebay, still open to offers. Better deal if it stays in Canada, but can look into costs for other locations.
1384  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling Antminer S17 53TH/s on: August 10, 2019, 01:15:02 PM
Phil is proposing he and his friend each order 2 that brings them in at $800 which I believe is the limit for triggering the tariffs. So it still exists, and there are very few units you can buy to stay under it anymore.
1385  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 on 2x 110v question on: August 10, 2019, 12:36:12 AM
What PSU are you using? I've never had to set one up that had a breakout board. I'm assuming you have preassembled 6-pin cables to make the connection from the PSU to the S9. If your cables are properly assembled they only fit the connection on the S9 boards one way.

Is this similar to what you are talking about it?

1386  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Prediction – $24,000 BTC/USD before Christmas 2019 on: August 09, 2019, 09:41:33 PM
I'm new to the whole speculating thing, I've only recently began to follow a couple of tubers that legitimately just sit there and run through their take on the charts. The target here might be conservative compared to a lot of the "predictions" out there but I like keeping grounded. Looking at Christmas this year I think we could see a 24, 000 BTC. That's about 1/3 of the time remaining to the next halving, which I think is a window where we will probably still be seeing higher highs, before a pull back leading into the last few months before the halving. Mentioned above is that November into December are months that generally produce higher price points.

Kind of kicking myself for picking a poor time to begin diversifying a while back.

From the few that I legitimately new who bought  in near the top, it's about 50/50. Some sold once it dropped about 30% as they were hoping to ride it to some instant profits. Most are still holding, as it was a long term buy they went in for.
1387  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BTC Miner Snow Panther B1+ on: August 09, 2019, 09:07:32 PM
Hey sorry to hear you are having troubles. Not positive but I think the company has gone out of business - can't even check their site anymore.

To try and help though. How long are you leaving the machine on before trying to log in and monitor. Gear is tricky, sometimes you can log in right away sometimes it's a few minutes. If you've given it plenty of time check to see if there are any loose connections. You may wind up having to open the machine, not sure.

Might want to check with one of the people in this thread who bought one for additional troubleshooting.
1388  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Blockstream Reveals Massive Bitcoin Mining Facilities on: August 09, 2019, 08:20:03 PM
My other issue with them is Dr. Back being CEO: Kudos to him being cited in the original BTC whitepaper but IMHO his actions since then have NOT been in the better interests of Bitcoin. His part in backing Halong with the Dragonmints along with his holding back on deliveries just to keep them hashing for himself (on ckpool, over 300PH for several months) until threatened with lawsuits comes to mind for a start...
so much behind the curtain.  I wonder if they are now working with bitmain ,MicroBT ,avalon or innosilicon to load up with gear.
one thing is for sure they are not pointing gear to ckpool at the moment.
I had no idea the connections there. That shitshow went on so long and flammed out so poorly I never followed if there were resolutions. Surprised more people weren't screaming his name back then when the gear shit the bed so hard and support and supply just disappeared.

I imagine they are working with all the distributors now that were able to produce gear under 60W/TH. That's a lot of space to fill, especially if you also want to be a one stop shop for customers. They've likely been going solo and/or are testing their pool.
1389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British Authorities (HMRC )Seek Data from Crypto Exchanges on: August 09, 2019, 07:49:13 PM
They could be opening a big can of worms, as I believe a lot of so called traders are actually losing money
And as a result, taxes will be paid only by a small number of traders that receive a minimum profit. As a result, this whole idea will be more expensive for UK Authorities

More likely it results in a negative for Capital Gains. This should lower your amount of owing taxes depending on the tax system involved. If they tax you on the gain you receive "relief" on the loss. What I would look into more is whether or not they create a barter ruling. If you are using it to buy goods as opposed to cashing out it isn't treated as a capital gain. I'm not sure if that can be used in the case of services offered or not.

There is no money to be made going after small fish. They will hope that a pop-up or notice is enough to convince you to dig and report enough to be close to accurate and compliant. They will be looking into people who move around and trade in the 10's of thousands to millions a year. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years exchanges were filing tax documents and no longer leaving it up to the customers.
1390  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Blockstream Reveals Massive Bitcoin Mining Facilities on: August 09, 2019, 04:32:55 PM
Hmm there's actually a lot to unpack from that article. First yeah they're huge but with a similar model to Bitmain apart from the hardware sales mining for themselves, hosting and pool operation. Who knows how much is their hash, and how much will be hosted for clients. If not for gear shortages they surely could just shutter the doors to outside miners and rock a massive percentage of the global hashrate, but seems counter intuitive to the decentralization talk you don't normally hear from a large entity.

Then there is the new pool protocol they are going to launch, where the miners get to control the transactions being included not the pool operators. No empty blocks there if everything goes smooth.
1391  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Whatsminer M20S 65 TH on: August 08, 2019, 05:36:24 PM
Yeah I was originally interested in the M20 model, but they sold out quicker and I took what I could get. I would prefer to step it down to 2 M20 units, just like you said having 65 TH tied up in 1 machine is a bit nerve racking. I thin kanyone running a few of these will have a couple spare PSU's around.  Agreed on the M10 though I have 3 running  and will move them back into the house this winter, really happy I grabbed them when I did.

While they aren't at the top of the efficiency list I do really like the MicroBT product.
1392  Other / Meta / Re: Limit signature campaigns on: August 07, 2019, 11:47:20 PM
The problem is people shitpost for a lot of reasons. Some are promoting off forum sites by linking to it in their shitpost, some do so just to read how great they are, some because they think this is facebook. We have seen action when things are bad enough this year with campaigns and participants receiving temp bans, I think that sent a decent message out to most as we've seen people be more cautious about signing up blindly.

It doesn't matter the monetary limit you impose to someone it could be a couple weeks salary so they would gladly fill as many spots with alts and turn out garbage all week. If you want to make a difference, go around reporting posts, if their quality is poor it will result in them not being paid and losing the incentive.

Account sales suck, but not much can be done. People are willing to sell entire packages of personal documents for cash. So I don't think there is any reasonable level of precautions the forum could take to prevent someone from trading in accounts. At least now there is a good hacked recovery system to prevent hacked account sales as best can be done.
1393  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Whatsminer M20S 65 TH model on: August 07, 2019, 10:43:21 PM
Steep yes with lots of numbers below that people can offer, or not, again not to pressed to sell the machine.
I have done some checking and for anyone who is worried about the orange wave of tarrifs, I can secure you a spot with a reputable hosting facility in Canada.
This means you pay only the price we agree upon and then the hosting fees. I'll update better details later when I'm off mobile

Forgot to update this so with another nice price run-up I'll give it a bump. Hosting in Canada is offered by Cryptoboreas, and if you go that route I have secured a spot. Long time member allinvain runs this operation and has also offered to provide escrow service to the buyer if it's going there, should it be needed.

Will accept BTC, LTC maybe others you can reach out, as always feel free to make an offer.
1394  Other / Meta / Re: Ban evasion on: August 07, 2019, 10:33:47 PM
Do we need a thread in meta for this? This seams like a great thing to have either followed the advice above of:
this is a reputation topic.
Yes it was and usually I use to post this on this topic [User Generated Mk III] - Known alts of anyone Mk III and I use to report them and point the link of my reply on that topic. You can report it as well, there's nothing wrong with it I guess as to the mods will look into the report.

We need to be better at keeping things clean ourselves if we are going around trying to clean up the forum. All it takes sometimes is the report to Mod function or posting in an established thread if you want like minded people to pull at the strings as well. Also giving you a chance to link to a post explaining your "report". If your information is sound the accounts will receive a ban from the powers that be.
1395  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin with a Clean Record on: August 07, 2019, 10:22:05 PM
I'm sorry but if that's really a concern than banks should start testing paper bills for drugs as they are taken in. Just google "drug traces on currency", there's plenty to go on. There are a ton of virgin coins out there and if people really pay a premium for them that's going to be hilarious; coin is coin. Discussion should end there, now if they want to charge someone with criminal offences based on coin usage they will need to get much better proof of a crime than your money came from a criminal at some point in time.
1396  Economy / Reputation / Re: Viewing unedited posts and deleted posts on: August 07, 2019, 07:53:01 AM
Does it have anything to do with the recount theymos did? Not sure how that would affect the data LoyceV uses.

I did a recount of post counts earlier today. There are several bugs which cause the post count to drift from its real value over time. The current count is the accurate one.

I do recounts from time to time.

Edit: I guess not, just behind the scenes
1397  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - July 2019 on: August 07, 2019, 03:59:20 AM
Well I'm not giving them an A+ on anything, but looking at their site it looks like 53 TH for 13800 Yaun = ~1960 USD for this gear  - 53T ASIC miner Cheetah Miner-F5M with PSU
I did reach out to them for information and to ask if they had anyone performing reviews. I do not recommend anyone send them money until gear has been seen and verified by an independent party. Positives are that they are not just blindly accepting payment via the site, but will have a service rep reach out to you.

The 30TH model may just be an outlier of a small company that doesn't update their website very well. It should really just say in-stock if it is still available. We'll see if I hear back from them or something materializes in the wild.
1398  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer T9+ & S9, full hashrate at browser view but only 5T to 6T in pool view on: August 07, 2019, 03:50:06 AM
Are both of your miners still reporting a low hashrate? What type of internet connection are you using is it a stable connection? If both your miners are experienceing approximately the same hash drop it seems tied to your connection.

What sort of stats does your pool give? Anything about rejected/stale shares on their end that would explain the discrepancy?

Did you try any of the advice above about pinging or trying different pool addresses for less latency.
1399  Other / Meta / Re: Writing a welcome message on: August 07, 2019, 03:08:13 AM
Even so, for the message to be most effective it should be in my opinion in real-time, upon registration, and not a deferred PM. In addition, the potential PM sending account, being non-official, could be considered spam technically, so the more official the solution the better really.
Edit:
<…> I think you overlooked the fact that said account can have 30 recipients per PM, making it possible to reach 36000 users per day. <…>
No, I wasn’t aware until now. Still making it a trigger or alike sort of feature thar sends a PM and/or displays a pop-up seems rather simple. The issue I figure is not implementing the message, but rather more deciding the content of the message.

I agree, but until something is implemented by the Admins anything is better than nothing our message may not be perfect but could still be effective. The "unnofficial" was in line with the labeling of the rules we currently have (Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ) and for complete clarity on that this is a community message - which might be a good intro that some systems within  the forum are community driven as opposed to moderated. I don't agree it could be labelled as spam as long as the content adds value.

With most things if it wasn't to hard for someone to implement, go for it. If theymos doesn't like it he will speak to it, or ask the individual to stop. There also would be nothing preventing theymos from implementing his polished message if/when it's complete. Then there would no longer be a need to continue this interim measure.

Quote
Of course to complicate matters a notch, ideally it should be available in the language of the user, either first hand (i.e. when subscribing - select language for welcome message) or accessible later on (which loses efficiency).  Default English is perhaps good enough, although many non-native would not grasp the depth of the content, but rather more a watered down version of it's content.

For local board languages it may be worth just posting links at the top of the message in the languages we currently have local boards for. As time goes on I'm sure someone would translate the message from each board and it could be linked to that post.
1400  Other / Meta / Re: Bad report for this post? on: August 07, 2019, 01:24:29 AM
I didn't check to see which were which but I did go and look at the first and last.

Ending in 345 is from April 5, 2018
Ending in 363 is from November 9 2018 -
No need to go back so far, it makes more work for the Mods if you go back and try to clean to much of the past.

Were any reports from that thread marked good that you made? Yes the OP should be deleting the old bumps when they have a new one, it does look like sometimes the "product" changes. Going forward you can monitor the thread and report any bumps they don't delete. I also don't see any within 24 hours so no real violation just a messy long sales thread.
