1361  Other / Meta / Re: How often do you "clean" your trust list. on: August 19, 2019, 08:23:55 PM
It seems to be headed in the opposite direction, particularly due to the low barrier of entry to DT1 and random selection. There will be more and more DT1-eligible users but the pool of responsible high-integrity individuals is not growing as fast. If anything it's getting smaller due to sane non-drama people opting out via voluntary blacklisting or simply by wiping out their trust lists, and new-ish DT1 members are not going to risk their positions by excluding some account farmer who can retaliate with a handful of counter-exclusions.

Yes this is a shame for the most part it would have been better if these people had been able to just walk away and not engage. There are people who will never change their mind or have a level of proof required so beyond reason they can pretend to be open-minded. It's like any struggle that's worth it though, pick your route and just keep pushing towards the goal. The new DT1 members aren't worth having if they won't stand by the reasoning and guidelines they used for their feedback, if they fear being excluded for that reason.

I haven't had a lot of time to check through it lately, but a while back I was pretty floored by some of the people making up the pool. I'm all for cycling members through and introducing new blood, especially if it gives a wide range of opinions across the DT1. We don't need any echo chambers floorishing here, but it does feel that way sometimes with the newer members as quite a few people went out and started tagging and mirroring feedback as soon as the new system rolled out.

It's a tough system to get behind, especially when you want people to use it for their personal needs. Then throw in the fact that their list also has a vote, and it becomes a balancing act most won't bother with. All we can do is try, and actively monitor for an account farmer attempting to subvert the system, which is still pretty tough to do.
1362  Other / Meta / Re: How often do you "clean" your trust list. on: August 19, 2019, 04:06:17 PM
~snip~ There is no activity requirement for DT2, however, which I think should be addressed.

I don't think that's necessary, that should be handled well enough by DT1. Most if not all people take it seriously if they get into DT1 and are receptive to suggestions. So if there is an issue with DT2 ratings from inactive members someone should raise the concern with them. Whatever the outcome is either the person becomes excluded from DT1, or they exclude the problematic DT2. The DT1 can choose to mirror any ratings that they want to from that point.

I would say it's more a testament to the quality of the feedback a person left if even after years of inactivity their ratings hold true. If that is not the case then they should wind up being excluded in time. I'm not the best at going back over my list in it's entirety. In my more active weeks though I try to investigate peoples feedback as I browse to quality check what my list shows me. Pretty sure I make some changes at least once a month though, usually something small.
1363  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: August 19, 2019, 01:31:57 PM
The bigger coupons only came out when sales were slow. I think the last one I used was at the end of January, maybe February. It's nice to see they still have the little one on the site full-time. I don't think we'll see any deep discounts until next year at least considering the pre-sale market we're in now.
1364  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Canaan Avalon 1066 on: August 18, 2019, 07:10:03 PM
@steamtymeYep,the email was about the A1066.They are joining in the '>3 kW unit game'.
Okay, was definitely a logical step to have the same product offerings as everyone else. I'll just have to wait for the 11** for something entirely different.

Their a1041 is pretty nice for home mining.my hope is it is a two speed  and the low speed is like 31/37 for the a1041   that would be 42/50 for the a1066  and it would be quiet for the home. miner on the low speed.I sent an email  mentioning this thread. Maybe Steve will post some good info here for us.
It's hard to get excited about LPM when if you need it the pricing isn't something you can overcome. You have to give up a lot of hashrate for most machines running it. I would still like to see Canaan bring out a first to market product efficiency wise. The reliability has always been great, but with how fast things seem to move they just outlive their profitability. I missed out on grabbing the 1041 as it launched shortly after I had upgraded everything, but we'll see how things go in the next 6 months.
1365  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Canaan Avalon 1066 on: August 17, 2019, 09:46:48 PM
I saw an email where Steve said he had plans to announce a new miner in October. Is that what this is? Makes sense for them to have a more dense unit as well, but I was excited to see something entirely new again. Spoiled by all the launches this year i guess.

1367  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Gear Pricing just becomes more irrational then ever on: August 16, 2019, 03:43:51 AM
Jumping in a little late been busy.

trump announced he would postpone some of the new tariffs .   Not sure about mining gear.  would be better then a jump to 35% + 2.6   Info changes constantly. A very fast world we are in.

Last I read on that this proposed 10% was on items not previously affected. Mining gear should be excluded from that.

The pricing isn't really a surprise move as far as I'm concerned. 2018 must have killed the manufacturing pace that was being set so now orders for components that are placed months in advance were probably at near minimum levels so that no one was left holding to much stock. Until that run on coin price everything was priced in so that you could be profitable sub $7000. So anyone ordering gear and receiving it within a few weeks was laughing. January you could load up your entire farm in 3 weeks with M10's at 750$ per. If you had a long preorder depending on how you paid you might have got stung and paid a 40% premium.

That price jump pretty much dropped us in November 2017 - Gear several generations old is now profitable again, and there isn't enough new gear available right now. Now manufacturers are scrambling to ramp up production, which costs a lot and they had just been selling gear at a steal. So they know people want it and are just dangling out everything they have, which probably includes gear reserved for warranty repair/replacement, charging in the irrational realm because someone will pay it.

I'm curious to see how many of these pre-orders arrive on time.
1368  Other / Meta / Re: Ban evasion on: August 16, 2019, 03:12:19 AM
My report against one of his post stating the ban evasion still shows unhandled.
Did i miss something ? Is there anything which speaks against ban evasion ?

If it shows unhandled it's most likely waiting to be inspected by a staff member who can handle Bans. The report itself should have linked to whatever thread has the proof linking the accounts whenever you are reporting Ban evasion.

I was reading somewhere that there also appears to be a long backlog of reports waiting to be handled, just from the sheer amount of reported posts; most being low quality/spam.

~snipped~The reports are all on one page. There's just thousands of them right now and the ones on unsubstantial posts dwarf everything else.
1369  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [H] LTC [W] BTC on: August 15, 2019, 08:37:01 PM
I am interested, just on mobile at the moment if you are available we could set up a deal in 6 hours or so. Feel free to PM or post more details and I'll get back to you when I can.
1370  Other / Meta / Re: If someone pass away, will their Trust feedback still exist permanently ? on: August 13, 2019, 04:01:03 AM
As time goes on this might become a bigger concern, but for now it's still an isolated incident. With the new system it's probably something that will work itself out as newer members wouldn't have a reason to include Zepher, and might even decide to exclude. You can already see some members leaving counters for that feedback. Flags would be the same as they need to have more people supporting it that countering it.
1371  Other / Meta / Re: Why Am I only seeing "0" From this guy's post on: August 13, 2019, 03:51:01 AM
Maybe an bought Account and she / he isnt anymore happy with it and deleted the posts she / he have done since got the Account !

Anyone who would actually buy this particular account his it's post history probably needs to get their head examined. I highly suspect that B1tUnl0ck3r's posts come off as nutty even when someone needs to google translate.

Me thinks you give people to much credit. All anyone willing to buy an account would see is - Sr. Member Check, No Negatives Check, Merit earned, Bonus

I don't think they'd sell the account though, to paranoid. Someone could pretend to be them and begin working for the [insert conspiracy due jour], or frame them. To many risks involved.
1372  Economy / Reputation / Re: Hacked/Sold? Senior Member - octaft on: August 13, 2019, 03:40:13 AM
I just reported one of their posts in the mining section. I really should start double checking the post history of these straight up scripted linked spam posts. Then I could mention it in the report and save some time. There already seems to be enough of them that it should stand out enough to get the Ban dropped. If nothing else locked by Cryptios.
1373  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolinminer & Whatsminer FAQs on: August 13, 2019, 03:32:04 AM
I can only speak to Pangolin, as I haven't ordered from Whatsminer.net

1. Pre-sale customer support experience - They respond quickly within their business hours.. They answer your questions and will give what answers they can. 10/10

2. Ordering experience- Orders have been smooth, they have fallen behind on updating the web site with current information regarding your order. Some orders show pending well after being shipped and delivered, or have a delay in updating payment information. They quickly reply with updates regarding payment inquiries. They are only a distributor so are subject to a supply chain but some orders have been delayed sometimes weeks at a time. 7/10

3. Post-sale customer support experience - They try their best here. They do have a tech that will use teamviewer to assist you in trying to solve issues that aren't hardware related, this is really handy and they spend a good deal of time trying. They will give you ideas on how to troubleshoot a hardware issue, but this is limited outside of their repair facilities. 8/10

4. Product quality- So far no major issue on my end. I had a slightly under performing machine that I haven't been able to find the issue; apart from LP mode it is still within spec. This is one of 3 M10 models. I also run a M20S. I have heard of the odd one having issues from others though, nothing wide spread. 9/10

For your questions, I haven't heard of any coupons other than the ones they offer on the website in the chat box. Not sure if they still have one of those there. The difference between the 2 distributors is really just who owns them, and maybe a few dollars in price. I don't know anything about the customer service or ordering differences.
1374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British Authorities (HMRC )Seek Data from Crypto Exchanges on: August 12, 2019, 04:21:23 PM
~snip~
I find it hard to believe any government would allow for that.
That's very likely, brokerage platforms do it, and even Steam will ask for your information if you sell 200 items a year or something close to that.
Would the government even consider that though? The more you know..

It's still fairly vague but that's essentially the regulations around dealing with the Gains or losses from holding Crypto. I'm not positive on if day trading is seen differently as income as opposed to an appreciation or depreciation of an asset. The barter thing is also true, the assumption is no different than 2 farmers trading say a tractor for a grain bin. Which I don't imagine will survive as a way to avoid capital gains into the future as further understanding and regulations roll out.

It's been shown that enough platforms will attempt to go above and beyond what governments are seeking to avoid any possible issues down the road. So if it looks like governments want to know exact profit/loss from an exchange, with add-ins like addresses used, or source of coins; they will hand it over without a second thought. It's not a terrible system as long as people are aware of it if they want to keep any of their information or activities private. It will help people in the end to follow the tax laws of their country, and not receive a nasty notice at some point down the road.

Well on where I'm at, small fishes are often targeted because the governments and law enforcement themselves protect the big fishes. So yeah, expect that more and more small-time traders would be targeted by this ruling and only a handful of big fishes in the scene.

Well they get their money one way or another, unfortunately when one side is already paying/bribing they then have time to squeeze the little guy. I guess as long as you can keep up on the legal requirements and pay taxes appropriately it should be no worry.

1378  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Considering mining.... help with estimates on: August 10, 2019, 05:33:02 PM
For your setup anything works as long as this is true - Your lease or rental agreement guarantees up to 600$ paid, without restriction.

500 @ .24 = 2083 KWH/30 = 61KWH per day /24 hours gives you room to run about 2.9 KW worth of gear.

You don't want to be to invested in hardware because at any moment really your landlord could decide to change the agreement at next renewal. Investing in things like upgrading the panel are not necessary, it adds to your cost and to utilize it you will end up going over your covered usage. Now without knowing where or how you plan to place these, I would say search the local markets to see what there is for older gear. You could run 2 S9's depending on the model. You could look at Avalons in the 9, 8 or even 7 series. Really whatever you can find cheapest with the most hashrate is your best option.

First time/Small miner reference for getting started.

Thank you for your help and I still have not figured out how to post the pictures directly to the site but whyfly thanks a lot.

You won't be able to as a newbie. So if you stick around the forum you could rank up. If your not interested in that you can buy a copper membership to enjoy those perks including posting images. Not generally a big deal if you post links someone will come along and do what WhyFLY  Grin did.

1380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are big Bitcoin miners not destroying Alt coins with a 51% attack? on: August 10, 2019, 02:38:27 PM
They have unlimited money to buy unlimited asics.[/b] They can even buy entire mining ops already in progress.

No the Asics are limited. Try and order a new one right now, you can get a few at a very large mark-up or you can wait a few months. Assuming you could buy 1 000 000 of them right now, that's another 2 million they are going to build, 3 months from now.
Sure they could go around and buy up every old piece of hardware someone is willing to part with. That someone may not want to because they can still earn a little or want to mine, who knows. Same argument goes for the farms that they could buy. Unless those farms are losing money why would the owners want out? Most of these large players have positioned themselves with their farms from either early adoption or investing large amounts of capital to begin with.

Not to sure what is hard about printing a few more trillion out of thin air. They do it daily! literally 1 click of a button to create $12789638712674861786487126478967127890476102876408712789123 money to buy all the fucking asics or create more.

It would be an interesting feat to print that cash, then get it into the hands of these manufacturers, all before it crashes whatever price it was holding when the idea seemed like a good one.
