1281  Other / Meta / Re: Effect of signature bans on: September 25, 2019, 07:18:54 PM
Weeks before his ban day, he joined the BitBlender campaign (I am one of that campaign's participants too), that has max post cap per week is 60. This is one of factor should be considered. In that campaign, shasan likely made max post cap per month at 240 posts, and 100 extra posts made likely to hunt for merits and rank up.  Smiley
This is an interesting example. To be a smart campaigner, and ensure quotas people tend to at least post 2-3 extras in case they get a few deleted. On top of that if you are running a lending thread or some other money making business on this forum you can be expected to have additional posts, that generally won't count towards payment in a campaign. The interesting thing here is that none of the current posts have anything to do with not earning.

Quote
Anyway, the ban period of signature for one or two year is too long, and it mostly drains out motivation to post to rank up or whatever reasons.
Then where did they get the motivation from in the first place, someone said you can make money once you can wear a signature? The only thing that really should come out of this is a maybe feeling a bit of shame or embarrassment, I'm sure we've all been there after getting caught doing something stupid. ( or numerous now that I think about it)
It truly shows how shitty the issue was to see how some have changed in their involvement, not entirely unexpected but shitty non the less. These signature bans are honestly as lenient as you can be with people and if it's still a problem, I'm not going to miss anyone whining about it. You still have every other freedom on this forum, you just F'd up the gift of monetizing your posts.

The spike in bans and sig-bans also coincided with the northern hemisphere's summer months.  A lot of folks take vacations, or have children home from school and are spending more family or doing things outdoors.  I made time to go fishing and mountain biking with my son a few times, and took a couple of road trips with the kids and one with a friend.
Again, it might be as simple as it looks for some, and for other's it might only be part of the picture.
Agreed. Personally my posting habits dropped off quite a bit lately. It didn't have to do with summer was more of a personal thing, at times I feel I get inside my own head. However everything else I do irregardless how I feel the wayside for the summer as usual. I had renos on the go, kids home all the time and just busy. Not to mention I'm most active here when I'm on the clock and I took a few weeks off work. I found myself reading more from the phone rather than taking the time to boot the PC and engage. My above reply though highlights at least one instance that helps sway my opinion.

The bright side, you do see the users that truly just want to be here and engage. redsn0w and ChiBitCTy   I'm not really familiar with some of the others. Not sure if zazarb  really posted outside of lending much anyways. This makes it worth it imo to continue to practice leniency.

1282  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NovaBlock, The Most Profitable Mining Pool on: September 25, 2019, 06:17:15 PM
Just letting people know I have pointed 2 machines at Novablock pool. I plan on reviewing my experience there in a separate thread in Service Discussion. I pointed ~95 TH there last night and will update regularily over the next month. I did receive the offer for 0% fees for the month to perform this review, and will obviously factor that into the comparisons, I will do a side by side comparison with ViaBTC as I left ~31 TH there.
I do still have 31 TH at kano pool, but will not be factoring that into the comparison as the PPLNS payment structure and 5nd, are quite different and you can't grab the full scope of that in a short period of time to compare against PPS+. I'll update here when I get my review up and running.

Thanks NovaBlock for the opportunity. This review will be an unbiased account of my experience. There is no further talk of compensation at this point, they did state after the review I may still receive a discount on mining; this will not affect my review.
1283  Other / Meta / [Request] Out of Smerit, top it up..... on: September 25, 2019, 06:02:40 PM
 No don't do it.

I'm not out of Smerit, but wanted to put this out there.
It's not uncommon for some out there to exhaust their earned Smerit, even sources run out from time to time. We need to understand this is just the system at work, not necessarily a flaw or reason to request theymos intervene and add to our bank. On top of that I don't feel people should then merit these people solely for them to earn half as Smerit, in lieu of theymos making them a source or them receiving their next merits organically. Most of these users will earn merit on their own rather quickly anyways, but are either: impatient, afraid to forget the post, or uninformed of other options as linked below.

I just feel the optics on this are so askew, it's hard to look at sometimes. Merits still seem like a hurdle to a lot of members out there, by design the system shows members  various ways to excel succeed and bring value to the forum. This can then promote this sort of behavior of just wanting to award merit to others but having non themselves. Early on these sorts of requests where met with claims of merit begging, and go earn your own.

Now this is different from a merit source application. That is a position that is needed and there is no issue with awarding merit, they are generally well put together and researched threads.

So I'll toss this out there, next time you see someone in a situation with no merit to award direct them here - [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source .This way the posts can still be merited and the system can work as designed without needing/requesting Admin intervention. If they have not already done so you can also direct them to apply to be a merit source following the process laid out in Merit and new rank requirements
1284  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Strange, PSU started malfunctioning on: September 25, 2019, 05:28:28 PM
When you say gone down do they outright die, or do they need to be power cycled? I'm curious what you mean about your considerations -
Your power cuts out semi regularly? If so repeated power cycling isn't good for anything so overtime that can cause issues in itself especially when it's restored and is pulling full draw again immediately.
How low do your temperatures drop overnight? Does your area get really foggy this time of year? You could either be dropping below safe operating limits or experiencing a moisture issue depending on your set up.
Are your breakers tripped? You might have more of a load issue with the circuit as opposed to a PSU issue.
Yeah, second hand PSU's can be an issue but so can new ones. You never know how long they ran or what issues they had previously.

We probably need a lot more details to help out. Try giving us the run down on your whole operation and details of exactly what is going wrong. Could be multiple issues.

Might not be that bad, December pricing was pretty good iirc. This price action might be a blessing for a bit if it gets the older gear in cheap power farms offline, and keeps the hashrate stable or down. Like you said you also bought it then and not today lol.

Those quickie blocks don't hurt either. I still have an M10 rockin here, and likely the 741's for heating when they go online in a week or 2. 0 degrees coming up Friday.
1286  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Purchasing ASICS from BITMAIN on: September 23, 2019, 04:33:24 AM
The tariffs only matter to miners in the US. Unfortunately for them Bitmain doesn't care who they send the gear to, and they can ship to the rest of the world, or build up their own farms. Right now especially considering they still can't keep miners on the shelf, and people from the US are still buying gear just less. Then there's the aspect of not making a knee jerk reaction to 1 administrations pissing match with your government, as it's not affecting business yet.

It really only hurt the miners. The only drawback I've had personally was in the after care support. While it is practice to have to send back machines/parts for repair, they are the only company so far that hasn't had any wiggle room on that; when shown you are technically competent. In the end my minor issue wasn't worth sending the miner to China for repair. Good luck with your gear.
1287  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Escrow explained on: September 23, 2019, 03:43:01 AM
How about we don't turn this informative thread into a shit slinging pile like so many others on the forum. Go to the respective services thread, or use the feedback system to rate users. Better yet if you've already said the same thing numerous times before, then let it go.

The purpose here is to explain what can be seen as a foreign concept to many, but is business as usual here.

OP I was thinking you may want to add a section about choosing an escrow, and how to perform due diligance. Like verifying signatures, checking feedback.
1288  Economy / Services / Re: MIXER SERVICES on: September 23, 2019, 03:05:29 AM
While I get everyone starts somewhere, a mixing service doesn't start with a brand new account, no website, and zero vouches in lieu of either. Then let's look at the insanely low amount of effort put forth into describing your service.

So how about filling in bl4nk and provide some details. I guess a start might be to show some proof of funds you have to mix with. Until a lot more has happened I strongly advise no one sends any funds to this individual.
1289  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Escrow explained on: September 23, 2019, 02:10:27 AM
Nice explanation of escrow. I can't think of many times since I've been here where a dispute has arisen, mostly scammers bailing mid deal when they realize they won't receive anything. It's not an easy gig to get into for a small percentage but it's a valuable service offered here. If I might suggest you add these lists that exist on forum of the escrows.

1290  Other / Meta / Re: Sorry BitcoinFX, you are banned from posting or sending personal messages on: September 23, 2019, 01:50:56 AM
Another Rule you should follow.
I see you're posting outside of Meta. You shouldn't pm anyone or post outside meta if one of your accounts is banned.
25. Ban evasion (using or creating accounts while one of your accounts is banned) is not allowed.
Normally I wouldn't bother with this but if we are going to come here and shit pile on a guy - for really doing something he felt was in line with his/the original experience on this forum. Let's at least read the thread. If you had bothered to do that instead of investigating first, you might have noticed they had been made aware of this and would cease.

P.S. I've also been informed that I'm not supposed to 'talk' outside of this ban appeal topic (if that's what it is classified as) so aside from my other two posts made using this mobile account - I shall conform to the rules.

This forum is a community like any other, it's a simple fact about any group or organisation that operates in the public. Times change and so does what can be seen as acceptable. There are rules BitcoinFX is aware of them now. It's a shitty way to learn, when you were acting without malice and inline with what you thought was acceptable. It is howerver the responsibility of anyone to be sure they are aware of the rules anywhere they frequent.

I did laugh at the part about not having been told to read the rules after they had been created. Makes me think of a terms of service agreement when they update it. Any service generally gets you at login time or something similar forcing you to acknowledge you have read the rules/guidelines. I never thought of it before as they were established long before I got here, but wouldn't it have made sense back then to have mass PM'd the forums user base.

I knew I wasn't special when I checked the value of the free coins: $0.0notmuch. I was surprised though, to see a veteran user break forum rules like that.

I would argue all of us that did receive the PM were special in some way. There were 100, had BitcoinFX wanted to they could have sent out 100's of PM's or used fake accounts, we've seen it all here.

Now I'm not advocating for no punishment, but how many times in the past has BitcoinFX earned a ban or broken the rules? Spamming and trolling generally gets what a 7-14 day ban for first time offenders and then escalates upward if I'm not mistaken. Couldn't that have been the result here, all PM's scrubbed if necessary (though I would leave that up to individuals to delete), a warning/smaller ban and then call it a day.
1291  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Any USA based people here have miners hosted in Canada? on: September 22, 2019, 12:50:51 PM
So I've never heard of MiningSky, which doesn't mean much as I don't use hosting. Just be sure to dig deep and be sure - I quickly found this article which appears to tie them to Miningsky.io - https://cryptonews.com.au/story/miningsky-the-future-of-blockchain-infrastructure-66506

Again I'm only finding a few reviews but they don't look promising in regards to their clooudmining operation; if the companies are in fact related. I can't find any review about happy customers from their hosting facility, so proceed with caution just to be sure.

Hopefully you hear back from Cryptoboreas if they have any space available. They are my first choice if I need to host or refer anybody; and that would be Hoth lol. If I hear of anything or something comes to mind I'll try and update you.
1292  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Any USA based people here have miners hosted in Canada? on: September 22, 2019, 11:11:37 AM
Biggest issue would be making sure you are dealing with a reputable company, same as anything else. Apart from that it depends from province to province for what taxes you have to pay. If recovering the GST from out of country is anything like small business remittance, it's like 3 forms and weeks of waiting; hosting provider can probably help you out with that.

The other thing to consider is what you would do with the gear after hosting. If you try to bring it to the US down the road you get hit with import fees again. Who are you talking to for hosting? If you don't mind sharing.

There is a 4% import tax on the gear, and a 14% GST on the hosting costs.

What 4%, I thought it was 5% (inline with GST). I always have to pay the PST and GST where I am so that's a sweet 13% burn, really should have registered as a business. Come to think of it your 14% is a HST I think (Harmonized Sales Tax) which is a bitch in some provinces as you pay extra taxes where you normally wouldn't have before. Sorry drifting off-topic lol.

1293  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a loan in USDC or USDT, collaterized with BTC on: September 22, 2019, 10:58:48 AM
You may want to amend this part.
You also have no right to sell or keep the collateral unless I miss the agreed upon deadline.
Maximum loan term: 2 months

If the value of BTC were to drop off, then the collateral is there to protect the lender. Reputable lenders always give you the chance to top up your collateral to maintain whatever margin is agreed upon. E.g 115% collateral.
Good luck.
1294  Economy / Speculation / Re: How Bakkt will influence Bitcoin price? on: September 22, 2019, 08:43:46 AM
I don't really follow this much but have heard most of the main talking points. Mostly it's a lot of "Oh, no this will be like 2017 when CME launched and tanked the price" - I think I got that right. Which is a rather ludicrous line to draw anyways. Sure it may have had some effect but mostly it was a correction from the FOMO. When I hear this it usually goes hand in hand with a tiny caveat at the end how Bakkt will "physically" have the BTC.

The thing here is to not look at this event on a small time frame, give it a couple months to see how the rollout goes, then a year or two to see the real benefits. I think it will be an overall positive as it's a step in adoption and acceptance, that requires actually moving BTC around.
1295  Other / Meta / Re: How can we protect Newbies from getting scammed? on: September 22, 2019, 06:57:18 AM
I was not aware that this could be adjusted. Just took a look at settings and couldn't find where to change this log-out option.
How exactly did you change it?

When you go to log in the box that says 60 is the minutes to stay logged in setting. You just need to adjust it to a number greater than you plan to be online, so I tend to use something above 600 so that I don't need to log in as often. So if you log out now, you will be able to change it.
1296  Other / Meta / Re: #RaiseYourVoice Initiative. on: September 22, 2019, 06:04:22 AM
Good luck with your initiative but that's essentially the purpose of the Meta board. Anything concerning the forum anyone can create a thread here and air their grievances or whatever it happens to be. The second issue you will likely run into is somehow convincing the Admins to respond. theymos only responds to these sorts of threads if he finds it necessary, and I doubt that's going to change; apart from when he's just enjoying the discussion.
1297  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ | Up to 0.0375 BTC/w on: September 21, 2019, 07:23:32 PM
I don't like waiting lists either because there's always going to be some variation of people who I think should be accepted into the campaign and I don't want to pass on someone "better" because someone slightly worse but still acceptable was earlier on the list.
1298  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Our competitor is trying to destroy us on: September 21, 2019, 10:35:08 AM
I don't see anything on this forum that shows you or the bot have been labelled a scammer. That tells me this is solely a telegram issue, and I have no idea how scam tags or accusations work there, didn't even know they existed. What you should work on doing to add legitimacy to your project on this forum is be active. Bring in information, be open and clear about how things are working.

As it is your [ANN] looks sketchy and lacks detail; just an observation. I suggest an overhaul this will assist how your project is viewed by the public, that in itself helps dispel fears of a scam.

I suggest moving this to "Service Discussion' as it's a discussion about telegram/your service.
1299  Other / Meta / Re: theymos: what's the policy on Nuked accounts and Trust lists? on: September 21, 2019, 08:17:14 AM
That's weird I guess not often a nuked account winds up in the trust lists for any reason, given their low activity. Hasn't feedback always been left alone even in the past? I honestly can't recall any past experiences with nuked accounts and their left feedback, just banned accounts. The only time I recall hearing of it being adjusted was in the last few months, maybe sandy-is-fine, I believe there was a wall of abusive feedback left by a banned account that was removed.

Edit: Found the thread and it was actually a nuked user as well. - Is there a way to get an abusive NEG removed that was left by a NUKED user?
1300  Other / Meta / Re: How can we protect Newbies from getting scammed? on: September 21, 2019, 08:10:17 AM
There is also an automatic log-out every 60 minutes.
You know you can just adjust it to whatever. I often set mine to 720 minutes to cover my full shift. This way you can still log out whenever you feel like you just don't hit that annoying part when you go to post and have to log in because it's been 60 minutes.
I use different devices often, sometimes I feel like an addict looking for a quick read in topics I've posted in. To the point where while I have a tab of the forum open I've grabbed my phone, logged in and checked new replies lol. Usually that's pretty late into a night shift, but it has happened .
