1261  Other / Meta / Re: [Updated September 28] LoyceV's Trust list viewer - Create your own Trust list! on: September 29, 2019, 04:32:39 PM
I always feel like "Trust backstabbers" are the most sincere form of Trust list usage. As an example, these are all "Trust backstabbers" on theymos' Trust list:
~snip~
When evaluating someone's judgement, you should also look at their stance on Flags.
For example:
OgNasty's Personal Trust Flag viewer (to my surprise he's not supporting any Flags)
LFC_Bitcoin's Personal Trust Flag viewer (a very long list Tongue )
Yeah when it comes to Backstabbers you can be assured that at least 1 if not both parties truly understand the meaning behind the terms. Using "Trust" for the name of the list seems to cause problems from people feeling attacked. It makes it personal when it really isn't. I'll have to remember to use Flags as a metric, especially when trying to give advice in the future.

I probably trust some people who have ~ him so that’s why he’s done it. My response was absolutely retaliatory, I’ve been on this forum since 2014 & never once scammed anybody or even for one second thought about it. If he doesn’t trust me then I can’t find myself able to trust him.
Not a problem I get it. Moving forward just try looking at it less as him not trusting you, that's just a poor choice of phrasing IMO, as stated above. Having been here so long, breaking the habit of seeing trust lists in that light will not likely come easy. I try to focus more on myself than how others are using the list, so I can't really speak to how OG does things or how often he changes his list or what his reasons are. You might have it correct, people's trust lists do fall under scrutiny especially if they near a DT1 inclusion so some will begin to exclude you if they disagree with your list.
For me there are people I would trust with my money who I don't have on my list, because I don't value their feedback. There are also people I excluded that I would send money to first on a trade. Might seem backwards and counter intuitive but for me it makes sense.

1262  Other / Meta / Re: [Updated September 28] LoyceV's Trust list viewer - Create your own Trust list! on: September 29, 2019, 02:15:31 PM
It's your list and you are free to do as you see fit. Seeing as you put it out here though I don't follow this line of thinking; it just seems retaliatory. It would have made sense to me if you had thought more on OG's feedback and inclusions to decide if you agreed with it or not. If nothing else reaching out to him and inquiring as to why?

In a purely hypothetical as I have no insight into this. If they were just trying out a new list and the next week you were no longer ~ would you then remove the "favor"?
1263  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining gear efficiency a strong reason for difficulty increment? on: September 29, 2019, 05:05:26 AM
Sorry can't give a great reply but the s9 at the time was still like a 100w/th miner or worse I believe. Didn't it only get down to these levels after a firmware release in the last year or so. This is also an interesting factor, imagine where Diff would have been had Bitmain not hoarded it to themselves for so long.

Personally i don't think it's the efficiency alone.  It's more what the efficiency and experience have allowed them to do. My largest most compact miner is 65TH. That used to take 4 machines to achieve; if they all fired 100%For a non commercial purchaser. If you then add in the adoption and interest in mining since then production levels have skyrocketed which has more impact than the other 2 combined.
1264  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: September 29, 2019, 04:14:42 AM
I can't remember which it was the 741's maybe but you could stop cgminer and it would then idle along. I liked it for when I was preparing to shutdown for cleaning/repair/moving the gear. I still hate just pulling the plug on equipment pulling a few KW's, without idling down first. Unfortunately not nothing I currently run full time has that feature.
Good on them, as it could be really useful for people running borderline on temperatures as well.
1265  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: ViaBTC Pool Crash, Rollback Payments? Cheating Miners? on: September 29, 2019, 12:20:44 AM
Did you reach out to support to see what the issue was? I'd be interested to hear what they have to say. I can't imagine i'd be able to dig to deep on my account without having seen before and after.

Pretty lucky you had a screencap of the daily earnings page from beforehand. Did you take a screencap of it after? It's always nice when presenting proof to show the same image after as before. I'm refering to the first image.

Did you have any outgoing transactions? I don't think 24 HR earnings isn't the same as daily earnings, I think it's like a running total; as in going back 24 hours from that minute.
1266  Economy / Reputation / Re: Put A Neutral Trust if you have LENT someone on: September 28, 2019, 02:23:49 AM
Surprised people who understand this forum so well are confused by what positive feedback means, and it's relevancy to interactions with people.

OP I agree I won't lend anything without leaving a neutral tag. It's just another great use of ... feedback. It works great as long as people investigate to find these notations. I actually had this exact conversation earlier this week, and gave almost the exact same scenario.

1267  Other / Meta / Re: How often do you send PM's? on: September 27, 2019, 06:29:08 AM
I get what most are saying about wanting to keep everything out in the open. I was mostly curious as to how often someone might try and clear up a disagreement or misunderstanding in PM before posting it. Even then I'm not saying that just because you tried to clear it up first doesn't mean you can't still proceed to post about it.
PMs are better regarding small grievances that can be easily resolved without much debate.
Topics should hold open discussion if external parties' influence is necessary (i.e. both are vehemently supporting opposing sides)
This was very well put, I found myself struggling to make with the good words for the explaining.

I agree that open discussion is nice in a thread about anything on topic. I don't even mind when you see 2 users go back and forth in a thread as long as it's relevant and still moving the topic forward. I've heard about some people not liking when they receive a PM, but I've never cared. It was kinda nice the first few times someone reached out for something, usually I could just direct them somewhere. Scammers have tried a few times, but it never really bothered me as I could just delete it and move on; similar to tagging and moving on in a thread.

I had to laugh in my haste I found myself not using the PM function and instead posting. It was a good reminder though to a benefit of the PM in that situation. Not everyone checks back to threads they've replied in. This isn't the same scenario but a similar situation where maybe the user wouldn't have seen the reply.
Or like a few hours ago when I PM'ed someone answering/clarifying something he pointed out in another thread (which doesn't fit the point of the thread).

Fuck that is a lot of pms.
If I had to guess I would say you have an entire page from me if not more. Some newbies are hard to teach. Good as time as any to say thanks again for all the help, and for replying to PM's.

Almost forgot. When I mentioned trust changes. For me specifically, it was letting a change to my trust list that affected a users position and my reasoning for that change. I have considered a PM for 1 or 2 users who I 99% want on my trust list, but that I disagree with only a few of their ratings. I haven't sent that PM yet or tried to engage in that discussion, mostly because I got busy this last while.
1268  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NovaBlock, The Most Profitable Mining Pool on: September 27, 2019, 06:04:09 AM
Looking good Stryfe, I just finished a rotation so I haven't started tracking any of my rewards yet. I started my review here. I have some initial questions and findings that I'll be checking in with the pool about. Overall it's been pretty smooth.

I forgot to ask them, any idea how long the Ban was for?? I'm guessing it may be a couple weeks to a month.
1269  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Review] - Novablock Mining Pool on: September 27, 2019, 05:58:24 AM
Reserved for Changelog. Using Forum time and dates

October 4th - Added link in OP to rewards comparison. Also adjusted the fee from 3.5% to 2.5% until pool is 2000 PH in size.
1270  Economy / Service Discussion / [Review] - Novablock Mining Pool on: September 27, 2019, 05:58:04 AM
This will be an ongoing review of Novablock Mining pool. You can find their Pool thread here on Bitcointalk. I am only reviewing their Bitcoin mining operation. I am receiving a 0 fee mining experience for 30 days while I conduct my review. I will update OP throughout the month, I plan to compare it against ViaBTC for earnings and general experience. I am currently testing out their NovaPPS+ system against PPS+ at ViaBTC.

Getting Started
Go to https://novablock.com/
To begin mining with Novapool you need to create an account. This is fairly straightforward and standard practice across most of the main pools. The username you select will also be the beginning of you miner worker names if you plan to point multiple machines at the pool.
Once you have created your account you will be able to assign your wallet payout address. This can be done by selecting the "Rewards" tab along the left hand side of the page. Scroll to the bottom and input your desired address.
You will be able to come back here and review your daily earnings. On this point I am going to request a better breakdown of the block reward portion awarded.
Initial miner setup

This was straightforward, the mining URL's are found on the Dashboard top left. The pop up window contains 3 addresses, I would also like to see an example of naming workers here, for simplicity sake. I did have to look through the help section before I found the reference, as I wanted to be sure it was available.

Through an error on my end I found a minor issue. I forgot to use a "." to name a worker. This then was no longer pointing to my account, but did still connect to the pool. It was a few minutes before I realised the error, as the worker never appeared in the Dashboard. I tested it again today to be sure.

Ease of use

Again it's very straightforward. You can easily set worker and hashrate alerts in the event a miner drops out or underperforms. The site also displays projected earnings/TH/day in several locations; including the pool stats page on your dashboard. I would like to see if that takes into account the pool fee of 3.5%. 2.5% until the pool reaches 2000 PH

A nice feature available on the homepage is reviewing profitability of most available hardware for the last couple of years. It works like a profitability calculator by allowing you to input your utility costs and see your potential daily earnings by machine.

They also offer additional features and monitoring such as an App, which I will be trying out in the coming days.

As I said this will be an ongoing review. I have had my machines pointed there for about 36 hours. I will begin doing price and earning comparisons tomorrow. This is just my initial findings and experience.

Edit: Here is the post I will track all reward comparisons. I have linked a basic spreadsheet showing my calculations for earnings.
1271  Other / Meta / Re: And the yobit.net campaign is back on: September 26, 2019, 08:22:07 PM
Well here's a sign that they haven't learned anything as they aren't informing users of even the basic requirements to participate. I'm confused by this Brand new account then given the email states Sr. Member and above. Considering that was in the last round as well did they accept lower ranks?
registering, or trying to register my yobit account signature today. unable to input signature in profile. maybe there is probation time for new users before they can use that feature you suppose? thank you for any advice in advance.

Well, the problem would be all those inactive members, but in this hypothetical case, what if it were one of us good guys who do post anyway, that shouldn't be a stain on the individual.
Also, it says on their page, there are rules (no low quality posts), but I'm not sure how they will enforce that.
I believe last time you only got banned if you had at least one good report against you and were wearing the Yobit signature, so most participants got temp banned. I don't think it needs to be a stain on anyone's reputation for advertising a service, unless they continue to advertise the service after it's been proven to harm users, for example exit scams.

So when it apparently fired up again a month or so ago was that false. Didn't they advertise it on their website and then not pay users. I might have been wrong I didn't follow it to hard, and wasn't sure if anyone actually continued to wear the signature.

You won't be able to. I believe you need to be a jr. member or above to wear a signature or purchase a copper membership. You may just want to hold off on that as Yobit was banned from Signature Campaign advertisements, as were the participants that flooded the forum with spam.

Should you choose to continue here is a link about copper memberships, the rules of the forum , and ranks.
1273  Other / Meta / How often do you send PM's? on: September 26, 2019, 06:26:12 PM
So I've been wanting to create this topic for a while as it seems people vary widely on when, how, and why they chose to PM or not. I've held off as it seemed for a while the use or lack of use of PM's seemed to be an issue and I didn't want it tied to any one instance, as that's not why I'm creating this thread.

There are always disagreements and misunderstandings between users, or even the perception of injustice based on personal opinions. I've never really seen the benefit to creating an entire thread when a simple PM could suffice. This can easily clear the air a lot of the time without bringing in the peanut gallery, which more often than not can aggravate the situation. It makes total sense if you've attempted to reach out and receive no response or if someone is defaulting and no longer communicating.  I personally prefer to PM users for a variety of reasons, some could have been threads or topics some definitely not.
  • Instead of posting @whoever if I want to draw their attention to something
  • If perhaps someone is being called out or questioned on something but isn't a part of the thread yet
  • When something seems off to me
  • For opinions on people without dragging them through the mud first
  • For advice on something specific and/or just to chat
  • To notify some of trust list changes or reasoning
  • hammer out the details of a deal/trade before posting the agreed upon facts

I guess it just boils down to personal preference, that and some people love to grab the popcorn and watch the fireworks. Perhaps a bit jaded in my perception as well but sometimes it just feels like a way to get a couple more posts in that week.  So I'm legit curious as to the what and why of your PM usage.
1274  Other / Meta / Re: [Request] Out of Smerit, top it up..... on: September 26, 2019, 02:12:59 PM
That would have been a good use for the notepad feature request I was thinking about a while back. There were some good suggestions there for workarounds.
It's refreshing to hear someone refer to Smerit being their motivation to post better; the by-product not the reward itself. You do make me laugh as I usually have to read your posts at least twice to be sure I comprehend what you are laying down.
1275  Other / Meta / Re: Effect of signature bans on: September 26, 2019, 02:03:03 PM
~snip~
It is very normal and understandable if users join here from invitation of others that they can earn money here from campaigns, bounties. I think such cases are very popular for ones who joined the forum in 2017 or very early of 2018, before the new era of the forum: with merit system.
It is nothing ugly if someone, after months of participation, changed their approaches, adapted to changes (partially triggered by merit system); and became better users, better components of the forum.
Why do we have Newbie rank here? How many newbies actually read rules and understand them at early days here? I doubt that there are very little.
Your tossing a wide vague net here and mixing in a lot of factors that have no bearing. I pointed to an example where the only continued presence appears to be financially motivated. This has nothing to do with bettering ones self, or growing as a member. We're talking about what effect these Sig Bans have had on users and their posting habits. Again this doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the rules; or how well they can potentially post. It's about no longer having anything to contribute in regards to discussion anymore, once there was no financial motivation.
Quote
Time goes, and when they realize that wearing signature is a privilege, not rights, and change how they make posts and make contributions; I think that they deserve recognition from others from what they have done so far.
The truth is if one only or mainly care about financial incentives, they will not spend too much time for their posts, and their post quality will be around or below average.
I think there are three periods of posters who change from shit posters to good ones:
- Newbie - Junior Member: make sparsely acceptable posts, and likely have quality around shitposters and above shitposters.
- Member - Full Member: make more regularly acceptable and average-quality posts.
- Senior Member to Hero Member: Post quality takes off, and their posts mostly above average quality
- Hero Member to Legendary: only or mostly make high quality posts, the rest ones mostly are above average quality.
Imagine growing up in a world where you don't realize it's a privilege to type a few characters on a forum, with no need for reputation or expertise and get paid for it. I would argue that not everyone was striving for improvement for the sake of betterment, more like that next pay bump that only comes with a rank increase.
That's sort of what you would expect from any ranking system, experience usually brings a more polished approach. Though it still means little unless you can verify the account holder is still the same so I try to ignore rank in most cases. It also didn't really play into receiving a lenient sentence apart from the higher the rank presumably having more time to make a positive contribution to the forum.
1276  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie question about mining on: September 25, 2019, 10:34:48 PM
Don't buy a big new efficient miner for this for one it will make your apartment nearly inhabitable unless you spend some cash on soundproofing.
You could however look into some older smaller gear. S9's 841's 741's are all good in home miners if set up appropriately. Especially considering you don't have a plan to mine full time, you can save a lot on purchase price
Don't go crazy as a massive spike in consumption might end your free power with rent deal. Linking on mobile sucks so just google mining profitability calculator and you can compare earnings in different machines.
1277  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: September 25, 2019, 09:05:39 PM
Haha, yeah i just got back on shift and it always messes up my week. Sorry about that. Looks like someone forgot to update their voicemail.

I know some people who ordered the last few batches of Canaan miners got hit with delays. Best bet is just to hit all of their contacts requesting answers.

It sucks but they are legit. Hopefully they respond quickly.
1278  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Pool hopping..... yea or nay? on: September 25, 2019, 08:53:46 PM
Just my opinion here but I would say most on a pool like BTC.com are in a couple categories. Misinformed about mining and fell for the flashy website. Entirely business focused and more concerned with a known expected payout per day. This one is just pure guess but i imagine they also have a large amount of their own hashrate. Then there are the farms that probably receive e a discounted fee to keep their hashrate stable.

I personally like PPLNS and am only using pps+ at the moment for the purpose of a review. I am also just a home miner who only answers to himself so I have that luxury
1279  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: September 25, 2019, 08:19:36 PM
Not sure but it's Monday and I don't think they respond over the weekend. When did you email them? I think they have a 1800 number as well. I'll check

1-888-55-CRYPTO taken from their website.
1280  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Pool hopping..... yea or nay? on: September 25, 2019, 07:49:32 PM
In short it's not worth it but you might feel better about the situation as you've done something to mitigate the issue. Purely psychological in this case as your friend is reacting to what has already happened, It's like sandbagging your house for flooding after the water reaches your doorstep.
Now if your buddy were trying to gamble and game the situation, by watching the block stats and trying to guess when those 12 hour windows of no blocks will be then he could be said to maybe do better. It would be marginal though. His biggest issue is that once you leave slush, you then ramp down and when they do find a block or their next set of 5 you receive nothing. Miners just have to accept that you will have blocks that take 5,10,15 times longer than expected.

I also consider myself very much a set it and forget it guy. It is good to evaluate your situation every now and then though.
