The error code you would be looking for is on the miner stats page, in the bottom right corner under the heading PG is where you find the code I think, it will give you a number code. Here is a link to what the codes mean
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon6#MM_Error_Codes
Just go to the error code heading.
Hope this helps

Edit: fixing up an old post. You find the code under ECHU in the api log

I guess the replacement and warranty thing is just BS and sweet talk. I have been asking them 2 more times and what I get is just silent.............
until I got replacement, I guess the 90 days warranty, for me is just a typo by them, it should be no warranty.

I'm just wondering have you contacted anyone at Canaan? I'm not sure what you mean by asking them 2 times, how was this done? The process for defective units is pretty straightforward and can take a few days to hear back, but you have to at least open a ticket; was this done? Also a while back one of their representatives Steven had been talking with the group and provided us with his email. You probably dealt with him when you bought your 100 unit order, he tends to have something to do with larger orders. His email is Steve@canaan.io .

So far from what I can tell is anyone who has had issues with defective equipment, has had their issues resolved, if they take the proper steps. Good luck.

Hello, I am having this same issue. None of the guides show if it's required to change static IP or how to. Is this necessary? I'm still on the default static IP, I'm connected via default LAN and I connected to my home wifi following 1st mining rig guide exactly. I'm trying to mine with slush pool. The pool data is entered correctly, as slush pool explains. Do I have to turn off Lan? If I do this how do I reconnect to the raspberry? I already got locked out once and had to re-flash. Also, I might also currently be locked out because I may have "accidentally" changed it to DHCP because I got impatient and went for it.

pls halp

Thank you.
Oh, and the light on the lil thing between controller ad miner is blue, and the LED's on the miner are yellow.

Yes, changing the IP is needed. If you use the default IP, its probably not the same network as your normal internet, so the machine isn't connecting to pools.

what do i change it to?

Change it to DHCP (instead of a static address)

Can I do this for both LAN and Wifi? It needs to be set up to use wifi as primary as it will be mining in a location that does not have cable access.
I see the option for LAN but not wifi

I have not done this before but your question got me wondering so I did a google search and came up with this setup review which seems to cover it. I would still try and run a dedicated Ethernet if you can. I ran 50 feet just to be able to run these in my garage during the summer. Also as you already have a controller and I didn't look to see when this was written, ignore things about the firmware, just focus on the Wifi stuff. Let me know if it works as that could open up a few opportunities around my house later on during winter. Good luck

If you changed it to DCHP look check your router to see what IP it was assigned, you will need to use the new IP address to access the controller. You can find your routers IP address on the router usually, log into that and it will give you a list of everything on that network, you should be able to find your Rasp PI controller there.

Just realized this is running between 2 threads. try to limit your posting to 1 thread.
4265  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Canaan AvalonMiner 741 Support/Guidance/Pointers on: October 26, 2017, 05:07:07 PM
So just to be sure you know have the Rasp Pi connected to your home network via an ethernet connection?

You logged into the controller once.
You changed it to DCHP, on the controller.
Now you can't log into the controller. Actually you can't even access the controller IP address.

I'm not great at networking but as long as the controller is set to DCHP, and you have an ethernet connection from the router to the controller; and are using a computer or laptop on the same network. All you should have to do is open the router and find the device with it's new IP address. Is your controller still powered on?

Did you have to change your comoputer/ laptop network settings and change the IP address when you initially logged into the controller? If you did you will need to change those settings back. Have you tried to access the Controller from a different computer/ laptop on the home network?

Other than that I'm out of ideas, sorry
4266  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Minerwarez official Canaan Distributor on: October 26, 2017, 04:55:10 PM
Yeah I could see that, I always try to get a deal anytime I'm buying something, and it does suck when you can't find any wiggle room. I looked at the used units, and didn't like the no warranty, all sales final bit, then I thought about it; and figured that's the same deal I would get on any used equipment. They probably got to the point where they are still making money on them and are looking to unload the equipment; but aren't worried if they do or not.

I only tried to deal with Bitmain a little, and they weren't really helpful, so I opted out of buying through them. For me the reliability was the biggest concern for my equipment so I just gathered the info form the forum and went with Canaan.

I've been pleased other than the inititial F**k around in September where they could have been much more transparent. Since then they've responded well and handled any issues I've had within a respectable amount of time. So I'm glad I went that route.

How did you connect to your controller once you changed to DHCP?
When I changed to DHCP it kicked me off, and I can no longer connect via 192.168.0.100
thnx

Once you changed to DCHP, your router will have assigned it a new address, you will need to look into what address it has been assigned and use that to connect from now on.
4268  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: October 26, 2017, 03:10:07 PM
I would double check that IP address , as it looks like that is the first device to be assigned one from your router.

When you say you reset the controller, did you maybe return everything to default, you might need to go through all the steps again to log in, the same way you did the first time, with the controllers default address.

Unfortunately I'm no expert when it comes to networking; but my fix for getting my Controller changed to DCHP when it first arrived was using a spare dlink router with the address 192.168.0.xxx, so i used that to connect my laptop and controller for my first log in. Once I changed it to DCHP I set the controller up on my home network with no further issues.
4269  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: October 26, 2017, 02:24:11 PM

Hey guys,

I'm completely new to mining with Avalon 741 hardware. I just received mine yesterday and had the worst time setting up the miner. I finally connected to it after extensively switching around IP addresses, and then after restarting the Pi (its a 3 model b), I could no longer connect. I can still see it on my network, but for some reason can't log in anymore. I flashed the SD card with the most up to date firmware, and still cannot access the controller. Any ideas on what could be going on?

Thank you for all your help!

Edit: The LED on the miner is Yellow, and the LED on the controller switches from Blue and Green every so often, but mostly stays blue.

Is there a chance that you switched it to DCHP and are still trying to use the old IP address to connect to the controller? Look it up on your router and see what IP address it has been assigned.

If you are connecting to the controller and just cant log in, did you change the password or delete the default password?

4270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASIC vs GPU on: October 25, 2017, 10:25:57 PM
I am confused as your name and signature suggest you have a background in cloud mining?

If you want to mine bitcoin then you need an Asic machine.

If you are going to mine with GPU you would be looking into some Alt-coins. They may be able to help you with the profitability in the alt coin forum.

Other than that you would need to compare profitability by using different calculators
4271  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741, power source on: October 25, 2017, 10:21:44 PM
You can in a way.

I don't know all the ways to make this work, but you will need a 30 amp breaker on the circuit you plan to use, unless you have 2 controllers 1 for each Avalon and plan to set them up on different circuits.

This 30 amp line can then be run to a single 30 amp receptacle. here's the type of receptacle

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-30-Amp-125-Volt-3-Wire-Locking-Single-Outlet-Black-R50-02610-0CS/300861633

Then you would get a PDU like this one

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Compaq-24-Amp-Power-Distribution-Unit-PDU-Low-Voltage-PDUC30a-295364-001/263255393782?hash=item3d4b3e85f6:g:jLMAAOSwFYxZ2~Xp

So it goes 30 amp breaker- I think 12 gauge wire 12/2 should suffice (again not an electrician), 30 amp receptacle, PDU. Then you can plug your Power supply units into the PDU and run them in the same location.

Odds are you do not have a single pole 30 amp breaker in your panel, so you probably need an electrician to wire this in for you.

If you can not make the above happen, then you would need two outlets that are on a different circuit. ( this means a different electrical line coming out of your home panel). If you have the panel space, you can run 2 15 amp circuits out of your panel to your mining location and put 1 receptacle on each circuit, this would allow you to run with what you have on hand.

What are your options where you plan to set up your miners as far as different locations with different electrical circuits??

Hope this helps

Hi there, you are going to want to move this to the altcoins thread. This is for Bitcoin related hardware questions. Someone there should be able to guide you
4273  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can I Mine with a Laptop? on: October 25, 2017, 08:34:15 PM
Yes you can,

But... you most definitely should not, it will not yield anything worthwhile and you will ruin your laptop, so in all honestly if you hate your laptop enough to try this, you might as well throw it off the roof and run it over with a lawnmower. At least you will have fun destroying it.

Or you can use it to host your wallet or something productive like that.

Listen to HaggssFIN in regards to the hardware selections.
4274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Drugs with Bitcoin ? on: October 25, 2017, 08:27:11 PM
This thread is funny to see as my first interaction with bitcoin was to order some pot over the internet and have it delivered to my door. Long story short a service I had been using at the time stopped taking EMT but had this new bitcoin option, not knowing what it was I had bought .34 BTC in about an hour and made my purchase, 2014 or 2015, not sure. Lucky it was a company I had dealt with before as I could have easily lost out because I didn't do the right amount of research that's for sure.
4275  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for a a review of minerwarez on: October 25, 2017, 07:56:58 PM
I have made 3 orders through them and there has been no problem. The nice thing is you can use CC for payment as well if you don't currently have any BTC on hand. All my miners have worked fine and were shipped out on time. The only issue I ran into was a supply issue and nothing to do with them, some of the hardware they received was packaged for domestic China sales, so it wasn't sealed, and had small amounts of dirt on the fans. That being said the units ran fine.

There is a thread specifically for them as a distributor here:

4276  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Introducing our Canadian mining farm at 25PH/sec on: October 25, 2017, 07:38:04 PM
It is amazing set up the one you did. I wonder If it is still up and working, have you updated your ASICs or you want them to run until they consume themselves?

I know people in Canada who are looking forward to set mining rigs at their home so I ask you, what is the position of the government to mining at home and industrial level?

You have to pay and extra tax or just pay for the electricity consumed?

peace

I can't speak for the industrial level, although most crown corporations don't care what you are doing with the electricity as long as you pay for it. Larger installs I have seen pay for all their own hardware off the main grid and get a reduced rate.

For home Miners they don't care, you just pay for your usage. If your bill spikes they may come and check your house out for a grow op, but that will probably stop next year.
4277  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741, power source on: October 25, 2017, 06:59:46 PM
Hi there not 100% sure of what you need to know. Do you already have the PSU's have you considered buying 1 PSU to power each Avalon, or like i did a large enough PSU on 220v to power 2 Avalon 741's.

If you have and are set on using 2 PSU's per miner, you just have to make sure your circuit is sized appropriately. the Avalons take 1150W so at 110 Volt you need approximately 10.45 amps per miner.

So you would need 2 15 amp 110V circuits to run your 2 Avalons, as you currently have planned.

If you run off a 220V circuit you can run 1 circuit I would say a 30 amp circuit with a 30 amp receptacle; in case you double your miner load in the near future. Pick up a PSU to power both Miners; I use Amitylabs from Ebay, but there are quite a few Miner specific Power Supply providers mentioned in the threads. This way if you upgrade in the future you can buy a PDU and pick up another PSU, without any additional wiring.

For electrical calculations W=V * A, or ask an electrician friend lol, they are good to have.
4278  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How do you power an Antminer S9 in USA / Canada with 110v? on: October 25, 2017, 06:46:34 PM
The specs on their website say yes. Do you already have that PSU in hand? You will need to order a proper cable to run from the PSU to the outlet. Are you planning on taking your dryer out of service for mining lol. If not you can wire up your own circuit and outlet(s) for this project.
4279  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Mining Business - I have Some Questions on: October 25, 2017, 06:34:14 PM
I will try and help with the best of my knowledge I'm sure other more experienced miners will show up with their opinions.

1st) I think instead of using the term Node you are referencing Miners. Especially when you get to talking about your Hashrate.  I think the Nodes have more to do with computers running the Bitcoin code (and all the stuff well above my head), or bitcoin core wallets. These make up the network and ensure whatever protocols are supposed to be in place are being followed. The Node stuff I'm not to certain on so I will end that part here and leave it for someone else to explain.

2) I think you have already overshot your budget, The s9's you are talking about I think are currently around 1350 USD or more, not sure I don't run them. So the miners alone for 8 put you over 10K, without factoring shipping, PSU's or taxes and import charges. Maybe scale back to 5 or 6 units. Also make sure you can handle failure rates on equipment, and see how long before you could get units delivered. Have you considered Avalon 741's? They are less efficient and with your higher electrical costs you will want to make sure you can turn a profit.

3) Look into getting Mining specific Power Supply units as these are built for longevity to handle running 24/7

4) Do not solo mine even if you get yourself up to the 8-10 units you will still be a drop of water in an Olympic sized swimming pool, okay maybe 3 or 4 pools. This is especially true if you are trying to show an ROI to attract more investors.

5) I can't help with the remote monitoring of machines as my networking skills are shite, and I haven't needed it yet so I haven't put in the research, but from what I have glanced at it isn't that crazy hard to have set up for you. My pool that I use does actually monitor all connected miners for me which is nice, if 1 goes down it will send me an email alert. Also if you are on the same network as your Miners, which I assume as you said they are in the basement, whe you log into each ones individual IP address you will be able to see how they are performing, I'm sure there is software to monitor all of them at once but I haven't needed it. If you post in the software thread I'm sure someone can help you with that.

6) Where are you located, as you will need to make sure that you are exhausting heat, or using it if it's a cold climate. Not sure that your fan will be able to handle the amounts of heat these miners will be putting out. There are various designs discussed in the threads to help with that.

Good luck
4280  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Critique my Mining Room Setup on: October 25, 2017, 05:43:15 PM
Looks good, I would try and make a separation on the patio between the exhaust and intake fans, maybe even duct the intake fans out and have them make a 90 away from the exhaust fans. Anything to prevent the chance that your exhaust feeds into the intake fan, seeing as they are positioned rather close.

And I'm sure your already planning this but clean up the walls and floor, make sure you have no loose debris or paint that could flake off of the walls, as with those airflows it wouldn't be hard for something to get picked up and run through your nice new miners. Good luck looking forward to the finished product.

EDIT: sorry I just saw the second hand drawing, what is the PTAC room that you are using for intake?
