As long as we've got people who are getting paid to post here then they're going to continue creating generic shit threads to have somewhere to crap in. If we're not going to do something about the source of the problem, which is ICO campaigns, then it's futile even trying to do anything about it because you're just trying to patch up a sinking ship. Take out the cause of the problem which is the sig campaigns that are constantly firing shit torpedoes into you instead of trying to futilely plug holes that are never going to solve the issue that is sinking the ship in the first place.
Exactly. We already know the core root of the problem, and anything else we implement isn't going to help, and just create extra workload. Theymos listed a few of the solutions which he may consider the other day, and it'll be interesting to see what is implemented to prevent these issues that we continue to have. I'm getting to the point where I don't even care if signature campaigns were just outright removed.

Not to mention the "great project" spam that appears in the altcoin announcements section...
I'd suggest removing signatures, avatars and personal text altogether wouldn't be a bad idea...
Yeah they are annoying. I don't think that's related to signature campaigns though. That's more related to the companies behind the projects wanting to get their threads bumped, and are willing to pay big money for it. Think of it as a less legit way to go about things than bounty campaigns.

I doubt that will change, it seems like it will makethe forum bery centralised unless you say "everyone with more than x good reports can be a campaign manager" or something but then you might have to look into permabanning everyone who doesn't have the accreditation to be a manager which seems slightly mean (although it woudl work)...
Yep. So, maybe we should look at adding rank restrictions in the bounty section. Only the bounty section. The other altcoin sections are probably fine. Most of the spam is coming from those wearing bounty signatures anyway. Well, if we are ignoring the bumping services that have plagued that section.

when talking about campaign managers, actually Pugman has given instructions which managers are worthy of being employed. obviously, this problem is not just the campaign manager and the participants but the campaign owner is also involved in this. The thing is we all know who the capable managers are, and the best ones for spam control, and all that. However, the teams behind the projects that want the advertisements don't usually care for the forum. They just want their advertisement to have as much exposure as possible. Unfortunately the promise of free money usually gets them what they want. Currently, there's no restrictions on who can become a signature manager, and until that's changed we'll continue having this issue.

It can be hacked or bought account. First of all he posted in Chinese, but then started posting English one liners. I don't have any proofs, it's just prediction.
It could be. However, I don't think there's enough data to come to a conclusion, and that user seems entirely different to Diagaran. However, digaran2 has posted an address in the past which you could ask for them to sign if you wanted too. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=907271.msg16627479#msg16627479

Honestly, I just think this is another feature which wouldn't benefit the forum too much. If threads are becoming redundant, and encouraging spam you can report them. 1. Is the expiry date you were talking about is activated by default or OP need to put an expiration date for the post/thread?
I doubt anyone would be willing to put an expirty date on their thread. For one, they don't know when they are going to get an answer, and it might take several weeks for them to get a reply which actually answers their question etc. But, also users don't lock their own thread now. I don't think they would care for automatically expiring their thread.

Also this applies to bounties who asks for registration to their websites, this could be attempt of stealing your details.
This has happened in the past, and continues to happen today. These bounties are an easy way to collect data, because people are willing to put in anything for the promise of free coins. There's been numerous fake bounties in an attempt to farm user details from native users signing up to everything, and anything. Honestly, I wouldn't trust half of them, and would be using a disposable email. But, that's just me.

Wow, I didn't even realize how many participants there were for all those bounties. Betcha about 40% of those are alt accounts across the different bounties, and probably within single ones as well.
Yeah. I would say even more. Its so painfully obvious sometimes too. Yet, they get away with it, and profit from it. At the moment they are allowed to be lazy, and if on the off chance they get caught they'll just use another one of their hundreds of Jr member accounts. Looks to me there should probably be a limit of who can post in the bounty section. I've said in the past that I'm not for restrictions, but in this case I think its the best option.

There's quite a few private groups out there where certain members have gathered like minded individuals, and made a place to keep in contact other than Bitcointalk. But, in terms of official Bitcointalk news then like hilarious said Twitter is the probably going to be the closest you're going to get to that.

Their posting quality is above average, I have to give it to them. I think these are the new "Call Centers" where these people can earn "Legit money" from. I believe these people have realized that sooner or later spammers will get kicked and it will become only harder to rank up later, So they have started to build up their accounts. Smart move IMO. Account prices should rise drastically once the mass banning kicks off. They could sell these accounts, use these ranked accounts to earn from bounties/campaigns as you mentioned. I don't think they will make rookie mistakes like using same Address for receiving their Rewards. They look more organized than a "normal" Farmer. I believe this is just the beginning and we will see more groups popping up soon, Once the word gets out. "Damned" we are indeed.
These "call centers" are becoming a bit of a problem. Whenever I move a thread to the trashcan, and leave a redirect notice I received several messages from newbie accounts that their "team" can provide bumping services, and what not. So, it seems that the whole industry is looking to employ people to spam. But, because there's multiple people doing it, and different writing styles, and more time its much harder to recognize that it is spam.

Well, Man Utd are having a rough time aren't they? Probably fucked some peoples predictions up. I haven't watched them personally, but I'm quite enjoying their run of form as of late. Lets hope it continues Oh, and I keep saying this, but I really need to find the time to fill in the next few months, because I'll be away soon.

With account sales including private keys, email, etc., it's a crap shoot. Set the criteria for recovery and get the ball rolling; something needs to be done so I volunteered. I spend some time here anyway, may as well benefit the forum. It shouldn't take a few hours. Set the burden of proof and go from there, if you can't come to some conclusion in 20-30 minutes then it is probably a lost cause.
Exactly. I'm not sure what the stance is on account sales when it comes to recovering accounts. I'm guessing access to personal messages would need to be done, and looking up transactions on the Blockchain to see if a transaction did occur, and it all lines up to prove whether the account was sold or not. I imagine there's several other things which needs to be taken into consideration, and I can see the more complex cases taking a few hours.

Has Cloudflare had an effect on DDOS attacks at all? I'm guessing there's been a few attempts since it was introduced, but we haven't noticed. I haven't used cloudflare, but I assume they let you know if there is an unusual amount of traffic happening?
I'm still finding the site a little sluggish, but not running into any errors or anything.

I'm of the viewpoint that it depends on the content. If the post is of high quality, and offers more content than what they gain from adding a link then I'll usually leave it. But, if they are simply sharing something, and not providing any information in the thread then I'll remove it. So, basically if its low quality, and its obvious that they are posting to advertise their website/youtube or what ever then I'll report/remove it. This happens a lot in the altcoin section with people promoting their telegrams and discords.

Even if we have users volunteering its still the matter of them dealing with the requests correctly, and actually making the right decisions. Account recoveries must be a pain in the arse to actually get right. There's always going to be people trying backhand tactics to try and getting their hands on accounts that aren't theirs. Especially, because of how much accounts are worth due to signature campaigns, and bounties. I'm not sure what theymos has in the works to improve on this. But, I'm sure he has a few people in mind that would be appropriate to the job, and actually be able to look into it in depth, and come to the right conclusion. Honestly, sounds like a ball ache, and I don't know why anyone would willingly volunteer a few hours for one case

I guess its good for users that are on data or have internet caps. Personally though, I would still prefer to use the default forums layout even when I have data restrictions. I'm quite regularly traveling about the place, but have yet to use it.

In the perfect world; It would be nice to have those sorts of managers managing the bounty sections, but yeah I think its pretty unrealistic. I doubt many of those managers would be willing to deal with tokens/shares either.

I disagree with this too: although I don't know the exact criteria used, I'm pretty sure not all staff members are picked because they can be trusted with money, some are picked because their local boards needed a Mod. And Admins are on DT already.
I imagine some trust is still needed for local moderators as well though. It could be argued that they might be able to get away with more malicious actions, because of those reviewing their actions not knowing the language natively. I think it goes without saying that admins have to have a lot of trust between theymos, and them.
