581  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 13, 2018, 02:40:37 PM
The market seems to be reacting positively to the upcoming promotional activities on Byteball. Was news about the upcoming promotion published elsewhere before today? That could explain the huge run up in price over the last couple of days.
If it was not, then it could be a classic case of traders with inside information lapping up cheap bytes.  Wink
582  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-12] New Data Shows Coinbase May Be Spamming the Bitcoin Network on: January 13, 2018, 02:36:44 PM
Articles about reddit or twitter posts are stupid.

Anyway, this article is particularly stupid because it claims that the evidence of so-called spamming is that when Coinbase is sending transactions, the mempool is bigger than when it isn't sending transactions.

Hello? Of course it is. You wouldn't expect more transactions to magically reduce the size of the mempool, would you?

Of course, the real problem is that Coinbase has not implemented segwit and apparently does not batch transactions, and the result is higher fees that it passes on to its customers. This is really a Coinbase problem and not a Bitcoin problem because if people did not use Coinbase, the fees would still be just as high.

The article's click-bait claim that Coinbase is spamming the network is just a distraction.

Crypto news sites have to publish news about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, irrespective of whether there is anything newsworthy or not. Hence articles about twitter and reddit posts.
Coinbase does need some engineering improvements, to ensure that segwit is implemented and that they are not holding too many small inputs. They could easily incentivize their engineers to come up with something.

An update about our upcoming promotional activities.

1. Eli Taranto has joined our team as PR and Marketing director.
He has a strong track record in marketing, business development, and investor relations.
See his LinkedIn profile https://www.linkedin.com/in/eli-taranto/
He will be paid from the Community Fund

2. Steve will give a talk about Byteball at World Crypto Economic Forum http://wcef.co/ on January 15-16.
Eli will also be there, and there is a number of meetings planned in addition to the conference.
Unfortunately, I cannot attend as it was unrealistic to get a visa within such short time frame.
We sponsor WiFi at the conference.  This is paid from the Community Fund.

We will also send out $10 worth textcoins to all 1000 participants of the conference.  This will be paid from the undistributed funds.  And it is one of the new distribution methods.

3. I will speak at Altcoin Meetup in Zurich on February 2.  The meetup is organized by Bitcoin Association of Switzerland.

This is good stuff. Byteball's technical development and community have always been strong, we definitely needed some more marketing.
Beefing up the marketing team and increasing our media presence will definitely attract more users to Byteball.
584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Worried about global bitcoin acceptance on: January 13, 2018, 01:12:43 PM
Hi Guys,

You may call me crazy, but i am worried about the fact that more companies are accepting bitcoins. I brainstormed about a possible doom scenario. I am happy to see that bitcoin is growing. But i still don't trust the banking system and the governments. I think when more and more companies accept bitcoins, they are going to sell the bitcoins to the government or banking systems. And the banking system and government wont bring those bitcoins back in the community. They will all save those bitcoins so they will control the whole system. And even worse if they have plenty of bitcoin they can sell them all at the same time to destroy it. What do you think of it?

You are being paranoid. If the government or any other nefarious actor wanted to accumulate bitcoins, they don't have to wait for companies to accept bitcoins and then sell it to them. They can straightaway buy bitcoins from exchanges and OTC markets.
It will be a very expensive proposition to buy bitcoins and then dump them just to crash the price. And you aren't even guaranteed that this strategy will destroy bitcoin.
585  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Upset About Kraken, Advice on Other Exchanges on: January 13, 2018, 01:03:33 PM
Why not try binance, because binance is now the number one exchange, and the exchange is trading heavily. Grin

Try Binance.  its been good so far

The OP wants an exchange where he can wire in USD. As far as I am aware, Binance is a crypto-only exchange. So it won't suit the OP's requirements. Otherwise, Binance seems to be a good exchange with  a large number of coins being listed.
586  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-1-13] Kraken Down Nearly 48 Hours, Gives Engineers Time to ‘Rest' on: January 13, 2018, 12:04:48 PM
This would of course be worrying for the users. When one of the largest exchanges of the world goes offline, without notice for 2 days, then people might begin to think that there are bigger problems than a routine upgrade. The Company has also not been forthcoming with information. With the number of exchange hacks that have taken place, people are right in being extra skeptical.
587  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: January 13, 2018, 11:48:44 AM
Good start by the South African openers as they have managed to score 78 runs without loosing any wickets, it could be considered as a decent start. It seems that indian team management did not learnt anything from the last match, not only they benched rahane but also forced bhuvneshwar kumar to warm up the bench. This is really poor team selection and team is not looking balanced at all, South Africa has another very good chance to win this match ans series as well.

India have managed to get a wicket through Ashwin, but it does seem like it is going to be a long time before they bat again. South Africa have reached 145/1 and Markram seems to be closing in on his century. Amla looks assured at the crease as well.  South African bowlers performed very well in the first test and India's batsmen will be dreading facing them again.
588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin prices have decreased sharply on: January 12, 2018, 11:16:01 PM
whether the cause of this is happening, is it something to do with the decision of the south korea government?

They have not decreased sharply, but have gradually been on a downward trend after touching $20,000. The South Korean news had some impact yesterday, but the price has since recovered. The overall market cap of crypto stocks is increasing, with Bitcoin dominance falling and multiple new alts taking off.
589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [GBYTE] Byteball Speculation on: January 12, 2018, 10:32:37 PM
Is there any reason for today's stupendous bull run? I can't believe that the market woke up suddenly one day and discovered Byteball. Nothing seems to have changed - no new listing, no major news, no upgrade... yet the price is up 40+%.
590  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-12] Indian Industry Giant Reliance to Start its own Cryptocurrency on: January 12, 2018, 10:05:23 PM
Given the influence Reliance has over the Indian government and even general population, this move might just lead to an improved acceptance of Cryptocurrencies in India. I won't be too hopeful for the "JioCoin" itself though!

http://www.livemint.com/Companies/AzdrYmQhYnq0TPiDUbZcSO/Reliance-Jio-planning-its-own-cryptocurrency-called-JioCoin.html

If a big corporate company lobbies with the government, it will be to shut down other cryptocurrencies so that it can have a monopoly. Reliance certainly will have no qualms about trying to queer the regulatory pitch for competitors. And since cryptocurrencies already have a negative connotation in the minds of Indian politicians, they will be eager to legislate against decentralized cryptos.
591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is creating money out of thin air on: January 11, 2018, 07:36:43 AM
Ex-RBI chairman said "Bitcoin is creating money out of thin air". It is biggest scam of all.   Angry

He is an ex-RBI Chairman. He knows that all of today's currencies are created of thin air. Money is created by just adding a couple of zeros to the fed's balance sheet. Even the notes that you use on a daily basis are just printed, without any asset backing it.
He is factually correct, but so what?  Grin
592  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2018 Cryptocurrency Crash (Elliott Wave) on: January 11, 2018, 06:59:39 AM
Everybody uses Elliott Waves to predict, but nobody seems to get it right. Even Goldman used this logic to predict that Bitcoin was heading into its fifth and final Elliott Wave when it crossed $8000. We all know what happened after that.
So I am going to ignore this bit of analysis as well.
593  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-10] Lawsuit Against Chinese Cryptocurrency Exchanges Dismissed on: January 11, 2018, 06:42:42 AM
This seems to be a desperate stunt by somebody who has lost money trading cryptocurrencies and wants to get compensated for it. He would have portrayed himself as a genius, if he had made money on Bitcoin. Most governments will ignore such antics, but some could be goaded into action before this becomes widespread.
594  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-07] South Korean Cryptocurrency Mania: Exchanges are Adding More Employ on: January 09, 2018, 10:44:21 PM
This could tempt the government into taking harsh measures before things get out of hand. If the cryptocurrency industry adds value, employs a large number of people and contributes to overall growth, the government will be hard pressed to ban it even if it gets addictive for young South Koreans. They might feel forced to act immediately.
595  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: January 09, 2018, 10:36:16 PM
New Zealand have won the second ODI as well against Pakistan. This match was interrupted by rain too, but New Zealand didn't let that worry them.  Pakistan scored 246/9 in their allocated 50 overs. Although New Zealand were set a target of 151 in 25 overs, they managed to achieve it with ease thanks to Guptill's unbeaten 86.
596  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 09, 2018, 09:52:53 PM
If giving huge amounts knowingly to other ico managers whilst having to cut promised full moon distributions to investors many of which invested on that premise is not enough indication of terrible mismanagement of this project then i am not sure what it will take for you to recognise tony is best kept to the coding and design whilst others who understand market psychology and marketing are best to work in those areas.

Did I miss something? Has the distribution method for the remaining GB been decided? I can't find anything on the Byteball website.
Tony had said that the method would be communicated after the holidays, but I haven't seen anything yet.
597  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-08] Coinmarketcap Excludes South Korean Prices on: January 09, 2018, 07:41:24 AM
Coinmarket cap is a noob site anyway. But I can somewhat understand the reason for them to remove South Korean prices, mainly because of how they are showing similar patterns to how the Chinese exchange giants were in full operating glory. They at some point have been taken out of various statistical sites later on, and rightfully so. South Korean exchanges were looking more like a circus than actual legitimately volume generating exchanges. I always look at Bitstamp or GDAX for exchange rates, and all other exchanges don't have much value for me. Bitstamp has always been a reliable exchange in terms of its price, and that consistently throughout the years, and it's still like that today.

I think the Chinese markets were excluded from initial calculations because they offered no fees trading. This artificially inflated volumes. I don't see that problem with Korean exchanges. I think it is a tad unfair to exclude them. The volumes are legit and the prices are legit. It is just that Koreans are willing to pay a lot more for crypto currencies.
598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a financial pyramid? on: January 08, 2018, 06:36:54 AM
Some people think btc is a financial pyramid however, there is no solid proof. It's kinda like a ponzi scheme but if you would call btc a ponzi scheme, assets would be too.

I have heard criticism that Bitcoin is like a ponzi scheme, from many people from the establishment. For any ponzi scheme, you need an operator who plans to scam. In the case of Bitcoin, it is decentralized and therefore cannot be a ponzi scheme.
Some people argue that since people who invested early are paid by those who are coming now, it should be called a ponzi scheme. But that is true of any bull run or bubble; the early investors make money at the expense of late comers.
599  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: January 08, 2018, 06:00:11 AM
Australia are in a very strong position now to go on and win this test match, they have a full day to bowl England out and just need 6 wickets on a pitch that will start to break up as the day goes on so Lyon will be vital in Australia winning this final test match and making it a 4-0 series win.

Australia didn't have to try too hard. England folded up for 180 runs in the second innings, giving Australia a victory by an innings and 123 runs. So Australia take the Ashes 4-0. Joe Root, who was the batsman who could have held things up, was retired hurt and did not return due to gastroentritis. With this loss, England have lost more test matches than they have won on an overall basis.
600  Economy / Speculation / Re: We broke $17k price on Bitcoin will $20k be next? on: January 08, 2018, 05:52:46 AM
Do you think we're going to go sideways with the price action or we'll blow past $20,000 per Bitcoin? I'd love to hear your feedback on the price action from beginning January to February what are your thoughts?

The increase over $17k lasted a few hours and we are back to $16k in a day's time. I think we have to stop looking back and expecting days when Bitcoin's price increases by over $1,000 in a day. The best we can hope for is a gradual grind upwards.
