After a long time, I watched a tennis match. De Minaur lost the first set to Rublev 4-6. He won the next two sets with the support of the crowd and tiebreaks with scores of 7-6 and 7-6, and took the lead 2-1 in the sets. I especially paid attention to Rublev in the third set, he was demoralized but he controlled his nerves. At one point in the 3rd set, he adjusted his racket by hitting his knee. He was very angry, but then he came to his senses.
He took the 4th set 6-3 and won the set 2-2. Rublev had the wind in the last set, taking the set 6-0 without losing any points and advancing to the quarter-finals by winning the set 3-2.
The match lasted approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes. When De Minaur was also eliminated, there was no host tennis player left in the Australian Open.

Yea i lost a bet on de Minaur, it was a good 5 setter but he couldnt do it. Rublev now
has to play Sinner! and Sinner has yet to drop a set in this years tournament and this
is Rublevs second 5 setter!

Sinner is big favourite @ 1.25.

Interestingly they are ranked 4 and 5.

Good win also by Fritz over Tsitsipas, he books himself a spot against Djokovic,
thats a tough draw for him.

602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Denying yourself comfortability in other to buy Bitcoin on: January 21, 2024, 12:22:36 PM

With the current rate of inflation in our individual countries, many people see it that there is a better future in investing and holding Bitcoin for a long period of time. Many see it as a breakthrough out of poverty while some see it as a way of storing value. However, in as much as we love comfortability, convenience in our daily lives there are individuals who will rather choose to forgo short term pleasure like luxury purchases, expensive outings, Unfurnished apartments all for the sake of acquiring a lot of Bitcoin in their portfolio. They are determined and dedicated to believe in the long term benefit of Bitcoin while making personal sacrifices to secure their future.

Based on their commitment to keep to their decision it makes me ask myself how do this set of person go about their daily lives when they know they can afford those things they see around?

Do you think this is a strategy to accumulate Bitcoin faster because of the volatile nature of Bitcoin?

Lastly have anyone come across any individual who will deny his comfort for Bitcoin and what do you think are their motivations?

There have been times over the last few years where I have looked at buying items which
I necessarily need at that time and instead I have delayed the purchase and bought Bitcoin
instead, I now have a list of things I would like to buy in 2025, there are also those things
which I didnt need back then which I still dont need so I am glad I bought Bitcoin instead.

If we can identify what we dont actually need and what is necessary for a comfortable life
we have the chance to increase out Bitcoin HODL but on the same hand there is no point
in living without the basics, Food, Shelter and warmth.
603  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A practical way to stop procrastinating and start your investment journey. on: January 21, 2024, 11:34:17 AM
I've seen a lot of folks that have been into crypto far earlier than me and a majority of them never took action into buying bitcoin for shit reasons, you would hear some say that they are waiting for bitcoin price to fall a little, some never believe in bitcoin, but a majority of them had one thing in common was waiting for a perfect time to buy bitcoin which never came.
Procrastination is the worst habit any person can have and this can make you lose a lot of opportunities in life, speaking for myself, I always wanted to start my investment journey into bitcoin last year and I was busy giving myself all the excuse as to why the next time would be the best time, at the end of the year I only ended up buying 10$ worth of btc and in the late quarters of the year. Procrastination is not good and every person must try hard to purge it out of your mind.

This waiting for a perfect time or season to invest has really taken some investors backwards because there's never a perfect time for investments as ones investments starts immediately you have a desired funds to start up with. A lot of people would have bought and hodl Bitcoin for a long time now but due to procrastination and fear made so many persons to miss out and now they're looking for a dip so that they can start investing but when they had the opportunity at a time when the price hasn't skyrocketed to this level they were doubtful that it was just a mare speculation even now that it has also been speculated that Bitcoin is gonna attain an ATH of $100,000 by the end of this year, a lot of investors are still having that doubt even when they're watching how the market is moving but yet they haven't gotten that conviction in them at all.

Indeed, I have one friend who got into Bitcoin mid 2017 but waited and waited to try and
coordinate the best time to get in but missed out thinking the market was going to fall
but in actual fact it rose and didnt fall back to his expected buy in price.

Dollar Cost Averaging is boring and can not help an investor to get rich too quickly. It requires patience, a very long time of accumulation through DCA but if an investor can do it after a long time, he will have big capital invested in Bitcoin through DCA.

Dollar Cost Averaging with costavg.com include exchange fee
https://costavg.com/

[ANN] JJG Sustainable Bitcoin Withdrawal Strategy
It is like a DCA for withdrawal.
https://bitcoindata.science/withdrawal-strategy

The problem isnt DCA, the problem is the "Get rich quick" outlook.
Almost everyone who practices DCA has a long term outlook and the whole idea of the
concept is to average out your buy cost, it obviously isnt a consideration if you are
planning on leaving the Bitcoin market in the short term.

16 year old Miira Andreeva's dreams to win a grand slam get crashed by former Grand Slam Champion Barbora Krejcikova. Who takes the decider set fairly convincingly 6-2, after losing the first set to the teen.

Krejcikova is actually looking very good, it is a bit much to expect that teenager
Andreeva to beat the top seeds.

Gauff and Sabalenka are looking very strong toi, winning their last rounds quite easy,
at this stage Sabalenka is going to be tough to beat.

Interesting match on ATM de Minaur v Rublev, Rublev has taken the first set and I'm toying
with a bet on the Aussie @ 3.1
605  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] The Times 2009.01.03 newspaper - very rare - authentic - certified on: January 20, 2024, 05:32:58 PM
Makes you wonder how many people were packing their house up on that date to move or packing any items to move and that paper ended up getting wrapped up with some fine China or something like that  to protect it from breaking. Lol there must be hoarders who have copies sitting around their house and they never even know it’s true value..

Absolutely, there will be more than a couple these sitting in peoples attics used as wrapping paper, propping up tables and lining out boxes, that’s just a safe assumption to make. Will they be in a bad shape? Of course,  but  is there more existing than the couple we know of? Guaranteed

I wouldnt say there are many left in perfect condition or other than wrapping paper,
thats the nature of newsprint, they are really designed for a day or couple of days and
a newer one is out then.

Regarding the OP's copy, its kind of a pity that it was on display and that the front page
got discoloured, UV light is the no.1 enemy of newsprint.

GLWS though for the OP, these are true gems

The 100 club!! Exclusive club of players that have competed in 100 matches at the Australian open. Novak joins the esteemed group of Federer and Serena. By the looks of it, Novak has a couple more years left in him. That could take him past Federer, if he remains healthy.

Edit: Ben Shelton vs Mannarino has gone into the final set. I think whoever breaks first, is gonna take the match. Lets see how it goes.

Quite incredible achievement, no doubt about that.

For the time being I think hardly anyone thinks that Djokovic can be stopped early at the Australian Open. I think players like Sinner or Alcaraz would have to try to push DJokovic into a 5 set match. Maybe this is the way how to play against him successfully since at some point during the game age should become a disadvantage. Not that I really believe Djokovic has that weakness, but he isn't robot either. He can't go at maximum power forever.

Another milestone reached, and another record to break by Novak. No doubt he will
add and surpass Roger.

I had 2 bets on this round Dimitrov to beat Borges and Swiatek to beat Noskova and
both were beaten.

Borges beat Dimitrov in 4 sets and 2 tie breaks and Noskova beat Swiatek in 3 sets.

Everyone left on the womens side will be thinking even more now that they have a chance
at the title now that Swiatek is beaten

All of us sane people can realise the futility of war but unfortunately there are many who will
suffer and a few who will benefit.

We can rally, march and group but essentially Russia and Israel will not be listening to us
and we dont have the power to stop these wars other than a mass demonstration to put
pressure on our government leaders to do more to sanction and isolate Russia and Israel.

ATM the fees dont seem as high as they were! I just moved $79 with a cost of $6.87

That's about nine percent!!! (my eyes are watering) I'd *consider* a fee that high if I was transferring a win of ten thousand dollars in a hurry either out of an exchange before the replay showed the ball was out of play *or* if I were wanting to put some money down fast after the opposition's key players all fell down with gastro with twenty minutes left to play and were trailing by at least as many points...

Well thats about a 60% discount on where it was about a week ago , so im happy with it.

My experience of the Parlays is not to add too many bets, so the reward isnt as great but
also the chances of a result going the wrong way is less . . . thats how I see it. Last
weekends parlay had 5 bets, this weekend I plan to do another but havent decided who
to add.

Quick peek at the matches without odds I am aiming for:

Lyon
Leinster
Stormers
Exeter

But as I said I cant see the odds yet

In the European Challenge Cup I'm going with Gloucester ($1.24) and  Edinburgh ($1.30) but something in the back of my head says the Scarlets on $3.30 might pull off a minor miracle...

Good luck with your picks - I see the former Irish coach Smiths has taken the challenge and agreed to coach the Australian team.

IMO its a bit dodgy backing the Scarlets over Edinburgh.

I have 5 picks in the pot for the weekend:

Glasgow Warriors to beat Toulon
Racing 92 to beat Cardiff
Leinster to beat Leicester
Saracens to beat Lyon
Toulouse to Bath

Total odds 1.6

Yes I heard today Joe Schmidt today, great coach, he was 9 years in Ireland with Leinster
and Ireland and was fairly successful.

Quote
He was then head coach of Ireland from 2013 to 2019. In six years under his leadership,
Ireland won three Six Nations Championships, including a Grand Slam in 2018. Ireland
were ranked number 1 in the World Rugby Rankings for the first time in their history
in 2019, and recorded their first-ever wins over New Zealand.
609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which crypto wallet to use for 8,000$? on: January 18, 2024, 11:04:56 PM
Hello everyone, I'm new to cryptocurrency and I was able to earn 8,000$ in btc, and I keep all the money on binance, but I heard that binance blocks accounts. Please advise me of a reliable crypto wallet to store this money, who can recommend a really good wallet, I can transfer you 200$. Please write to my telegram @leaneek

Well you can separate it to Electrum for your daily trading activities, and then Hardware wallet for long term storage. That is a huge money to begin with, might be better if you really take it out from exchange. Even if it is Binance, they can still confiscate your Bitcoin, as what we say here, "not your keys', not your coins".

For hardware wallets, there are 2 best options.

https://trezor.io/
https://www.ledger.com/

Electrum can be download here: https://electrum.org/#download

and the best of them is Trezor, its truly open source.

I own both a Trezor and Ledger hardware wallet and can by far recommend a Trezor
for its level of security.

As an aside the Ledger Nano is convenient to connect to a smartphone.

So if you have $8000 it would be very prudent to take $100 of it and invest in a hardware
wallet to safely store your $7900 of Bitcoin.

I'm only doing $1 parlays but can't seem to win on the favourites (one or more invariably fall by the wayside).

I'll have a look at the European games for this weekend and make some picks.

Are you having issues shifting funds with the glut of transaction fees on the block chain at the moment?  It must be eating into some online crypto gaming websites bottom dollars. 🤔

No I noticed that today about Djokovic, another set dropped and the 3rd set was a
tie break. It sends a message to the likes of Alcaraz, Medvedev, Sinner and Zverev that
Novak is potentially vulnerable ATM.

Alcaraz, Sinner and Zverev are in the other group than Djokovic. Only Medvedev could face him before the final. But ist seems that Zverev did not got the message. There was almost a surprise in his match against Klein (APT rank 163). He had to go over full five sets and only managed to win the match in a match tie-break. 7:5, 3:6, 6:4, 7:6 (7:5), 7:6 (10:7).
He had already ifficulties in his first match against the German player Koepfer. If he does not improve in his next match, he can fly back home.

ah I was thinking any one of them could "eventually" meet him at some stage !!

I think he got the timing wrong because as a sportsman I believe during the prime time you earn a lot of money and when it comes to the final years of the career, you hope to still be earning a lot of money, but you should start valuing health more than money. Unless you have done a lot of things wrong with the money, why risk the entire future because of health problems that get only worse with every year these guys keep playing? I would stop immediately. The surgeries he had are surgeries that are supposed to preserve life quality and not to preserve the highest level in professional tennis in your mid 30s.

Well he cant be continuing to play for the money because other than sponsorships
he isnt getting much prize money, being on tour is probably costing him money.

That's what I was talking about and why I don't understand what the reason for him is to waste more of his health at such a young age. There is no wealth without health, literally. You got the tens of millions in the bank but can't play with your kids anymore.

I think Roger Federer was far more considerate about his decision although I understand that Roger was lucky enough to be able to play for so long, but at some point he knew that the prize he would pay for continuing to play would be higher than any money or fame he could gain from it. There is no point in becoming a loser first when you've already been a winner and then decide to leave the stage.

Yea well I think we are on tha same page about AM, Roger was different, his success
was FAR FAR greater meaning bigger accolades and financial reward so they kind
of dont compare too well in that regard but I know what you are saying, Roger seems
to have realised when the time was up.

In todays mens matches there was two tough days in the office for Medvedev and
Hurkacz, both had 5 set matches with tie breaks and in the case of Hurkacz against a
much lower ranked player.

Next round is obviously a step up,
Medvedev plays Felix AA and Hurkacz plays Humbert

FAA was supposed to get an easy win in this match. but the match ended up being very interesting and it definitely could have gone either way. When I saw the match going to the 5th set, I actually thought FAA might actually end up losing.  but Luckily for him, he was able to win the final set of the match.  however, he definitely did have to pass extra difficulty to get this win. FAA was able to win the final set by a score of 6-3. For a player of his skill and caliber, he had to work really hard to win this one. Do you guys think that he actually took things easy when he had an advantage of two sets to zero?

Perhaps he asks himself the same question?
I have already written it several times here in this thread. He is someone who can achieve a lot. But something seems to be blocking him and it seems no one has yet found the reason.

------------

Djokovic does nott seem to be in perfect form yet too. He also dropped a set against Popyrin. He said that he had a cold. But it also seems he is a bit unstable with his nerves. His next match is against Etcheverry

No I noticed that today about Djokovic, another set dropped and the 3rd set was a
tie break. It sends a message to the likes of Alcaraz, Medvedev, Sinner and Zverev that
Novak is potentially vulnerable ATM.

Too bad that 2 ex grandslam winners are already out but Murray should have called it a day about 2 years ago. It must be for the love of the sport that he keeps on trying as money is no real issue for him. To be honest, I did expect that Murray would have won this match but winning a grand slam is not possible for him anymore.
Now he is 36 years old with having good career behind him but sadly due to injury he was not able to achieve things which he deserves but still a good player with good spirit and sportsmanship in this game he was completely outclass by opponent just because of this he announces may be this is his last year in professional tennis which is good decision because after injury he has done good even not able to do anything good but still we can say he tries his best not for money but for his dedication for the game.

Wawrinka is also veteran he is also trying his best for the improvement but sadly now it's time for him to call up because things are going not favourable for him now.

With two hip surgeries, it was thought murray would never be back to tennis but he came back after years leaving a significant presence. It would be wiser for him to take a break now.
Djokovic who too is 36 is still in great form and now has less and less competition.

613  Economy / Speculation / Re: Isn't it exciting... on: January 17, 2024, 06:39:26 PM
The reason it dropped is because nobody expected it to drop. Everyone knew it would be approved and everyone was expecting a pump. Since everybody was expecting a pump obviously the opposite had to happen.

Sure many had the “sell the news” in the back of their minds but everyone thought that this time will be different. On my Twitter pretty much 90% of people are calling for new ATHs and something crazy like $1M per bitcoin like ARK fund.

Hence this is the reason why it dropped. We will see what happens tomorrow, as long as it doesn’t break $40K then we should be fine.

almost everyone was expecting a pump, I had it in the back of my mind that there
would be a "sell the news" event as The Sceptical Chymist points out, this happens after
nearly all these events and people need to be aware that it will probably happen after
the halving too!

I still think those ETF's will feed into the Bull season that we are having now -generally-
Its just a matter of time....as in about 3 months.

I definitely think these are exciting times to answer the OP.

We are still here!

2 from the picture board above are out, Wawrinka and Murray.

Wawrinka lost out to Mannarino in 5 sets, no tie breaks and got Bagled in the last.

Murray lost out to Etcheverry in 3 sets 3-6, 2-6 and 2-6. I know Murray has been discussed
here before but I really think this could/should be his last season.

on the womens side 7th seed Vondrousova was beaten by Yastremska in 2 easy sets
6-1 and 6-2.

Lets see how the rest of the round 1 matches pan out to look at round 2

Too bad that 2 ex grandslam winners are already out but Murray should have called it a day about 2 years ago. It must be for the love of the sport that he keeps on trying as money is no real issue for him. To be honest, I did expect that Murray would have won this match but winning a grand slam is not possible for him anymore.

Totally agree as would many.

The good days are over for him and to look at him playing and losing you would say
he hates the game and is totally frustrated.

Here's a brief overview of R2 matches that look promising and fun:

ATP
Paul v Draper
Medvedev v Ruusuvuori  The Russian has been complaining a lot so far about everything (slow balls, heat, crowd etc)
Dimitrov v Kokkinakis  Dimitrov has been playing really well recently. He won a tournament in Brisbane this year, defeating Holger Rune in the final. Kokkinakis is playing in front of his home crowd, which makes him very dangerous for any opponent.
Fils v Griekspoor
Rublev v Eubanks
Sonego v Alcaraz  Sonego looks much more impressive than the French veteran Gasquet, whom Carlitos defeated in R1.

Those matches are tricky for all playing IMO.

Draper is playing very well ATM and could indeed trouble Paul who has not been in
his best form

Ruusuvuori can be a dangerous player and has taken down a few top seeds last year,
Medvedev though is seeded #3 but can be beaten especially when he has the wrong attitude.

Dimitrov v Kokkinakis promises to be a great match, Dimitrov is in brilliant form but we
all know the power of the Aussie spectators especially for their own players, I still think
Dimitrov could come out on top.
616  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as P2P currency vs Bitcoin as an asset on: January 16, 2024, 11:56:52 PM
I am a fan of why need to choose between 2 when I can have them both?  Look at the brighter side mate and not just on single area here because bitcoin is created as currency so what does it mean ? to either use for payment/transaction or you can just keep them with you.

Having an Asset is better but the advantage also of using as p2p is there so i will use this as p2p and will keep holding at the same time .

That's the crux of the matter, no one prohibits us from using bitcoin for both purposes. So why do we waste time discussing the issue of choosing one or the other, when we can choose both? Like me, I use bitcoin as an investment rather than using it as a P2P currency, but when I need to transfer money to relatives abroad or certain websites accept bitcoin payments. I still use bitcoin as a P2P payment method, everything is still very smooth and without any problems. No one can ban or force me to use bitcoin for my own purposes, so there is no reason for me to choose only 1 of 2 bitcoin use cases.

I'm also with you guys on this and its the popular vote ATM. Bitcoin can be both,
we decide when and how we want to use it. Thats the beauty of Bitcoin its original
usage is still available eventhough its Asset functionality is most focussed on lately.

Its not just limited to those two options either, its a great way to transport wealth
discretely and can be a temporary escape from inflation.

Projected last 16, after 1st round. Djokovic has a favorable draw to make it to at least semis and potentially meat Sinner there. On the otherside, is it going to be Alcaraz vs Medvedev in the semis? Thinking way too ahead, I suppose.
Alcaraz got a mini heart attack early on when Gasquet was playing exceptionally well but Carlos stabilised fairly well and got things back on track, never looked back after the first set. In WTA, Rybakina holds on after being down 3 set points in the first set against Pliskova and somehow manages to turn it around. Took the match with ease after that.

TBH I like that chart and prediction and I think its accurate enough, its pretty much the
top seeds. We cannot discount the odd upset here or there.

We are realistically based on the chart looking at a Djokovic v Tsitsipas, Alcaraz v Zverev,
Sinner v Rublev/de Minaur and Medvedev Rune/Hurkacz quarter finals.

Those two matches in the Round16 draw are real competitive matches and hard to call winners
Rublev v de MInaur and Rune v Hurkacz.

Earlier today Bublik was beaten in straight sets by Nagal of India, thats a bit of an upset there
especially as I had him to win that.

An interesting match between FAA vs Thiem, and now the fourth set after the third set Thiem managed to take it to make the match longer and in the tie break FAA made several mistakes that gave points to Thiem, this is still difficult to predict even though FAA is the favorite to win but it is very possible that this will go to five sets.

Naomi Osaka was not smooth in her comeback in Australia Open, she did not play poorly but Caroline Garcia managed to overcome the pressure well because the crowd was on Osaka's side, and the match lasted two sets with the second tie break.

FAA had to work very hard and I don't think anyone expected that he would have to work so hard to win this match. At least I did not expect that. I thought the match should have been a lot easier for FAA. Remember that this is the first round of the Australian Open. Imagine how hard he will have to work towards the later part of the competition. He will play the next match against Garnier. In my opinion that match should also be easy for him. but who knows,  maybe his opponent will make him work just like he had to in the last match.

Naomi Osaka did try to win this match in my opinion. and I agree that her opponent was just better in this match. it was one of those matches for her,  whatever she was trying was not working out in favour of her.

Ah but Thiem is a very capable player, he can trouble pretty much any player,
hopefully 2024 will be a good year for Dominic...and Felix, two good guys.

Likewise for Naomi Osaka, she was close today but it was always going to be a tough
ask against Garcia who has been in great form and was very much ready for this match,
so hopefully Naomi can build into 2024.
