661  Other / Meta / Re: We are going to miss the Mixer Campaign in Bitcointalk forum on: January 01, 2024, 04:44:24 PM
I am not sure what the purpose of this new thread is, OP.
There are already two other threads on this board discussing mixer promotion: 'Mixers to be banned' and 'Bitcointalk mixer ban, Altcointalk is active in that scope'. I did not see your posts in either of those threads. Why create a new one?
Quite clearly he must have seen what else was going on and most probably decided to create this thread rather than to contribute in any capacity in any other thread that was already out there covering the same issue. He did not post in those threads. Maybe the OP was trying to milk some merits before the mixers ban.

Umm... isn't having this thread a little bit counterproductive? The rule that'll take effect on 1 January will "remove" threads about this topic, so... why bother having a discussion about it? Especially as the content is rather pointless; I think anyone knows that the managers will close their campaign around this time, if they haven't already.
Maybe it is some form of attention-seeking or hope to get merits?
662  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: January 01, 2024, 04:37:00 PM
I did not look at it that way but after you pointed to how account farmers could indeed counter any possible positive effect the banning of mixers could have brought to the equation, it is something that could happen. If they do need to increase the number of posts using even more multiple accounts then it could add more spam and much more low quality posts to the forum. I do hope we will start seeing less spam/flooding but that could be wishful thinking.

In the forum as far as a huge number of farmed-accounts and alt-accounts are concerned, will the lack of opportunities to earn a regular income equate to less spam, less flooding and less merit abuse?
I am afraid it will lead to the opposite of what you say.

I have no study to prove this but here is what I think.  More opportunities of earning a regular income means an user is more likely to work on a single Bitcoin Talk account to reach a well paid Signature Campaign and have a small posting quota.  If they used to earn 150 a week with an account they will now need three accounts and triple the posts to earn the same money.

It means one of three things.  They continue with one account and accept their fate, they give up or they create two more accounts so they can earn just as much again.

This will be an indirect incentive for more users to purchase and sell more accounts.  Easier to try to abuse and get into Signature Campaigns quicker.

But then if they had to do 25 posts per week before, they need 75 with three accounts.  Either they write 50 more brain farts or they still write less farts but never get to the max quota.
663  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2023/2024 on: January 01, 2024, 04:31:01 PM
The Premier League kicks-off the new year fixture list with just one game taking place this evening Monday 1st January:

Liverpool vs Newcastle United

Liverpool are sitting on top of the Premier League table by virtue of goal difference (both they and Aston Villa have 42 points) but they can move three points clear if they beat Newcastle United. On current form, I think this should be an easy win for Liverpool and the loss will add some pressure on Newcastle United manager Howe.

It is New Years Day therefore I have to take the opportunity to wish you all a successful 2024  Grin

Happy new year to you and to all the forum members. Enjoy your time sitting on the comfy chair.

I have decided to not comment on the various bits of excellent suggestions and comments you made as new years eve/day should be for everything and anything but a day for putting your thinking-cap on and getting tucked in to intellectual debate  Grin

Anyway, you're cutting into my whiskey time. So, stop making good points. Grin
665  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK 17th FEBRUARY 2024 on: January 01, 2024, 01:29:53 PM

I cannot think of any real exciting sports events taking place between today (new years day) and the day of the Fury vs Usyk fight (17th February). I suppose this is going to be one of the biggest sporting events of the year if not the biggest. As I stated before, it is the first time a unification heavyweight boxing fight will take place since Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in 1999.
666  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: January 01, 2024, 01:23:21 PM
In the forum as far as a huge number of farmed-accounts and alt-accounts are concerned, will the lack of opportunities to earn a regular income equate to less spam, less flooding and less merit abuse? The only to know definitively is to allow time but if the spammers leave the forum they will not be missed and that cannot be a bad thing.

I am sure the conversation will rage on for short period about whether theymos did the right thing or not (by banning mixers) but eventually members will probably allow the matter to rest.

668  Other / Archival / Re: [banned mixer] - Bitcoin mixer | 50+ BTC in reserves are confirmed! on: December 30, 2023, 09:29:08 PM
I am referring to the Niquoles account which was created and controlled by you. Correct me if I am wrong but that is the account you created to be used to fabricate the incident which you then resolved using the PureMixerio account. As far as publicity stunts are concerned, it seems this one really has not brought you the desired or anticipated effect.

Which user are you talking about?
It was just us. We didn't "control" anyone.
669  Other / Archival / Re: [banned mixer] - Bitcoin mixer | 50+ BTC in reserves are confirmed! on: December 30, 2023, 09:18:45 PM
He has not exactly spelled it out or confirmed in so many words but that is effectively what the PureMixerio account seems to be stating. Somehow they have concluded that it is acceptable for them to fake a transaction that was not completed by a user that they controlled and they resolved the issue in what they portrayed in a satisfactory manner.

They are calling it a marketing ploy but seriously, it has backfired spectacularly.

You saw through our marketing ploy, confirming your importance as a trusted forum member. Our respect Smiley. But you and other users, understand... The new conditions of the forum contributed to this cunning move on our part. Our competitors spent significant amounts per month on a subscription company, and we had such goals. But blocking branches devalues costs, and it was necessary to remain in history and raise coverage at the end of existence. An aggressive marketing strategy does not make our mixer fraudulent. Yes, this fact of staging for someone will mean stopping working with our service, but others will see this as a non-standard approach to solving the problem. It was just the "yellow press" and that was it. It is inherent in all businessmen, and we are no exception. This is not a scam and we are not scammers. This proves the fact that there is not a single victim.

Quote
The reason for today's problem: a technical glitch that caused the suspension of transactions in our system. It's nothing serious.
What a convenient way to end your thread 2 days before it gets locked by Admin and all mixer owned accounts get banned from posting!

Exactly!  Wink

Umm... this is you confirming that you're astroturfing? You create a fake complaint by your own account to boost credibility from an impression that you're trustworthy enough to solve such big transaction in a very short time?
670  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2023/2024 on: December 30, 2023, 01:51:22 PM
I would expect Arsenal to throw everything including the kitchen sink at Fulham because they would like to bounce back after their defeat to West Ham. I think Arsenal will score but I also think Fulham will score too. They have lost their previous three consecutive Premier League games therefore the signs are not good therefore BTTS seems good  Grin

Since there's a chance that the match could end in a draw, and I could see it go BTTS, so what about this...  Arsenal or draw double chance and BTTS combo at 2.13?  Grin
671  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 30, 2023, 01:45:20 PM
What's Theymos going to do if someone doesn't remove their signature if they're in a mixer campaign?  Are they going to get banned?  He might have mentioned that when he made the announcement, but for the life of me I can't remember and....I'm not too lazy to check; I'm just not doing it.
I thought I had covered that part but unfortunately the post was not clear enough. I was referring to him removing the signature now rather than waiting until new years day which is when all mixer campaign participants will remove them. I was stating I could not understand why he felt under pressure to remove either text or signature when to be honest (from my perspective), there was no need.

But what I was thinking is that perhaps philipma1957 is concerned about that (though that wouldn't explain leaving the personal message in place.  Either way, I don't think it's such an extreme reaction that it's of concern to any of us.  It's just what he feels comfortable with--and yes, philipma1957 is in the US and like Theymos he probably sees the writing on the wall as far as the government and their surveillance of bitcoin, crypto, and mixers.  That said, I doubt the removal of his signature is going to help anything if any shit goes down.
As long he (and others) feel comfortable doing what they think is the best course of action, that is what they should do. I think 2024 is going to be a year when mixers and centralised exchanges are going to be the focus of US law enforcement agencies. The writing is probably on the wall in more ways that most of us can see.
672  Other / Archival / Re: [banned mixer] - Bitcoin mixer | 50+ BTC in reserves are confirmed! on: December 30, 2023, 01:32:37 PM
The way the evidence has been presented it seems clear the OP has acted in a fraudulent manner. It would make interesting reading if they reply to your accusation but how are they supposed respond when the evidence is overwhelming?

If they created this fake issue to gain exposure in order to portray themselves as a trustworthy business, they have brought negative exposure therefore it has backfired. Even if they are/were trusted and had no intention to scam, they have ensured members from the forum will never trust them now.

I've tagged OP with negative feedback.
673  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2023/2024 on: December 30, 2023, 12:35:24 PM
These are the games taking place today Saturday 30th December

Luton Town vs Chelsea
Aston Villa vs Burnley
Crystal Palace vs Brentford
Manchester City vs Sheffield United
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Everton
Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United

Aston Villa and Manchester City should end up with three points each but the early kick-off game between Luton Town and Chelsea is currently 0-0.
674  Other / Meta / Re: Why is this forum on SMF? on: December 30, 2023, 12:22:06 PM
Well, as Satoshi created the forum only Satoshi would know the answers to your questions. What and why Satoshi did or did not take in to consideration or what the reasons were for Satoshi using a particular forum back in 2011 is something we could all speculate about but would not have a definitive answer to. Maybe one of the admins would be able to provide some answers.

Recently I installed a forum for testing. I used phpbb on it but later I realised that it has a big demerit that the URL it gives does not contain the content of title of thread. I checked this forum and here also the issue is same. Was this not taken into consideration while choosing forum software ? Or does it not matter much? Are there some special benefits of SMF over other popular forum softwares like xenforo or vbulletin?
675  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 30, 2023, 12:15:35 PM
From what I understand, philipma1957 is based in the US and is a US citizen therefore he is keeping an eye on things from that perspective (law, regulation, etc) and that is understandable. Having said that I do think it is an over the top reaction and there was no need to go those extremes by removing a signature or text or deleting post history on the basis mixers were mentioned in a particular manner.

I am not in his shoes and cannot feel what he feels but he has made a decision what must have been after careful consideration. He clearly feels under pressure but I think it is more a case of he is putting himself under stress when there was no need.

So I pulled my avatar and my signature a few days early as I do not want to screw around with Jan 1 deadline.

I left my Text for now

Why would you be under pressure to pull off your text? (Below the avatar)

Privacy does matter, when you think about it.
676  Economy / Reputation / Re: GazetaBitcoin and his shenanigans. on: December 30, 2023, 12:01:18 PM
Unfortunately for Royse777, he has a history of losing control and letting out of control emotions get the better of him. I do not have time right now to first find and then to post links to all associated threads as I am busy but it is a fact.

Royse777 has exposed himself as a hypocrite who contacts the clients of other campaign managers trying to subliminally steal them yet complains when other members contact his clients (or prospective clients) to only warn them to stay away from a volatile, unbalanced and unhinged character with narcissistic tendencies that has an uncontrollable urge to brag about his so-called exploits as a campaign manager.

GazetaBitcoin if you are thinking I am not aware of what you send to my clients then you are wrong. My clients are closely connected with me and for them you are nobody but just a forum member.
Pay attention to the impact of your actions. If these clients are privacy enhancing services, their credibility as privacy keepers may decreased by several points. I don't think you should involve or ask for help from your clients in your next feud, you seem like the type of guy who easily loses control.
677  Other / Meta / Re: Second chances on: December 29, 2023, 08:45:40 PM
Yes it is logical, I was just trying to ascertain the mood of those participating in the thread to see if something wonderful theory was going to be put out there Grin

But what sort of message will the forum admins be sending if members that are using an alt-account will now get at least one of their accounts unbanned because that will then give them access to at least two accounts.

At the end of the process, if only three accounts from 17 applicants have been given a reprieve then that is a very good (low) number as I would not like to see dubious account operators make a return.

Could it be because they did not want their current accounts to be associated with the banned account or is there something else behind it?

Perhaps they do not have alt accounts but read the forum as guests?  Smiley

But to be serious, it is logical that they do not want to expose their current account, given that they are most likely ban evading all this time.
678  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 29, 2023, 06:23:40 PM
It is a strange parallel but it is true. There are a massive amount of cameras and surveillance in the real world and the forum also has years of history which can be checked or be under surveillance. Parts of the forum that are not available online for the general public to view have been backed up somewhere and can be accessed by a few people.

As ludicrous as it might seem, if there is a financial penalty to pay (or if there is a threat of losing your trading licence) in the event vendors sell cigarettes or alcohol without checking ID, then I suppose it really is a matter of the law coming to direct conflict with common sense. Usually common sense prevails but if someone wants to implement the law they are not doing anything wrong.

with cameras in stores 24/7 its hard to let stuff like that slide even if you wanted to. the camera eye sees all..

same as the forum i guess, access 24/7 for anyone to check past post history.
679  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2023/2024 on: December 29, 2023, 06:09:51 PM
Arsenal play away at Fulham on Sunday 31st December but I do not think it will be a happy new year for them. After what West Ham United did to Arsenal by winning away 0-2 I think Arsenal will suffer against Fulham. Even though I would not put is past Arsenal to score at least one goal, I think Fulham will win the game.

^  Possible spot for Arsenal to get back in winning form at the next match?  Arsenal to win and over 1.5 goals combo is at 1.77.

About moving the forum to another country, not that I endorse that view but keeping that aside I should imagine it cannot be too difficult. The forum is not an LLC (that I know of) and websites can be hosted anywhere. I think the issue that regardless of where the forum is legally based, theymos does not want certain types of mixers being promoted.

Oh USA law is so fucked up complex , layered and contradictory it is amazing.

So asking theymos to do mixers would likely mean asking him to relocate to a far more liberal tax country. Just to run the forum. That may not be realistic at all for him.
You've got the first part right, 100%.  I just saw a woman who was quite obviously in her 50s-60s get denied cigarettes at a gas station because she couldn't produce an ID.  That's an example of law coming into direct conflict with common sense, and it's idiotic.

And moving the forum to an offshore country in order to preserve mixer campaigns?  Yeah, there's no reason for that even if it were easy enough to do, which it isn't.
