Don't worry guys, I've just heard that they are going to pass a law to force all cats to obey social distancing rules, and to wear paw coverings.

Any cat that disobeys will be deemed to be a pussy.

LOL.

I did see in the beginning of all of this COVID madness that no one knew if animals could get it. At first they were saying dogs could, then they couldn't, then they could again, then some animals at the Bronx Zoo tested positive -- then who the hell knows now.

Just ya know -- keep your animal in your house or walk them. Not sure where they'd be able to be the ones who get and transmit COVID. The only way they'd be getting an illness is from THEIR OWNER.
682  Other / Politics & Society / Most schools plan to partially reopen in the fall, what will happen next? on: July 29, 2020, 11:35:06 PM
Most K-12 schools (elementary, middle, and high) and colleges plan to partially reopen in the fall. Students will be moving in the next 2 weeks or so. Schools across the US are instituting STRICT rules relating to how campus life will look in the fall.

These rules include but are not limited to: Not being allowed to leave your dorm, Groups have to be limited to less then 10, Wearing a mask at all times when outside of your room, Dining halls will only allow takeout, no eating inside of the dining hall, and so on and so forth.

Personally -- I think that college students will still party and things along those lines and there will still be outbreaks on campuses. I don't see this as something that will work out as everyone is expecting it to. You can make sure academically that students are forced to social distance, but they're not going to social distance when it comes to the social side of college.

What does everyone think the fall school year is going to bring us in regards to COVID?
683  Other / Politics & Society / Re: POLL: November 2020 Trump or Biden? on: July 29, 2020, 08:08:27 PM
Unless things change fast for Trump, by that I mean the economy improves, racial tensions ease and there is positive news in the media on a prolonged basis - it seems Trump will find it extremely difficult to get re-elected. He might have won the Presidency in 2016 thanks to the electoral college even though he lost the popular vote but this time round many people will go for Biden as a protest vote against Trump even though they do not endorse either.

It will make interesting viewing as and when the votes are counted and results made public on election night.

Honestly in recent days / week or so I've been learning towards thinking that Biden is going to win both the popular vote and the electoral college. I really don't see how swing voters are going to agree with Trump and his rhetoric, and people are going to be voting in droves against him.

Coronavirus and the economy taking a massive hit has really horribly hurt Trump, and Trump isn't able to admit that some of this can be said to be his fault due to him not being quick enough with his response and taking leadership.

I said before he'd be able to get out of this if he showed that he was doing all that he could. But I really don't see Trump being able to get out of this one as nicely as he gets out of everything else.

Economy COULD improve by November, though that is a lot of improvement from today -- as November really isn't that far away right now. Economy is still HEAVILY relying on federal aid and stimulus money to come in for it to continue to function. I still expect there to be federal money on the table for businesses for paying their employees when November comes around.

Though there is one point that everyone forgets. It truly only really matters what happens in the battleground states. Trump could lose by a TON for the popular vote, and still squeak by an electoral college win.

Joe Biden is going to have to go on the debate stage soon. Plus he's going to announce his VP soon, that will be a defining moment of this camp.
684  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Chinese Uighurs - concentration camps, slave labor on: July 29, 2020, 07:41:39 PM
who cares about the uighurs integration into the chinese society depopulates east asia and gives space back to the wild nature.
if no one does something about the muslims they turn their area into an afghanistan or somalia style terrorist shithole.
or a hateful imperialist nation like turkey.

Although I can't agree with your post, I would agree with certain parts.

First of all, the Chinese government claims that they are trying to integrate Muslims in to the national society, by removing harmful foreign influences. And they say that this is the reason why they have banned practises such as fasting on Eid and circumcision.

And then, we can't deny the fact that 100% Muslim nations such as Somalia and Afghanistan remain as some of the most dangerous places on earth. And Turkey has gone from one of the most progressive nations in the world, to one of the most regressive in a matter of two decades.

Yeah China isn’t trying to reintegrate people into their society or anything like that. They’re literally just terrorizing these people because they’re not fitting the whole ‘China #1’ model.

China demands respect from their people. There are videos of them pulling organs out of these peoples bodies while they’re alive.

They’re literally committing another Holocaust and we’re acting like things are fine just so business can continue.

Not sure on the science behind comparing the spread of stuff coming out of your mouth when it comes to face mask / face shield -- though I assume that it'd be more helpful to wear BOTH or just wear the mask.
It will. It's also more about what's coming in than going out. When on a face mask the air you breath is filtered as it passes through it, this doesn't happen in the case of a face shield as the air comes from the openings around it, it offers some protection, but the virus isn't completely airborne but present in droplets when an infected person releases it through sneezing, coughing, or talking before falling to a surface. If one is in close contact with an infected person they could easily breath the droplets around them in.

Yeah not completely airborne, though it can still linger in the air for a few hours (but the chance of you getting COVID) from the air is low (relative to getting it from droplets on surfaces)

But yeah I truly do think that people are stupid and they're going to end up not wearing masks, just wearing face shield, or things along those lines.

Hopefully people stop being stupid. (Doubt it)
686  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Masks rule goes into effect in England as Boris Johnson calls anti-vaxxers 'nuts on: July 29, 2020, 07:58:55 AM

Globally people are losing faith in governments, some of these conspiracy theories are ridiculous, but when you consider location and events occuring, there could be some merits to their reservation, which is just being poorly communicated.

Mask rules should go into effect, just wear it. You even get to cover your face from the government watching you. That's something, right?
This is a no-brainer, if you do not want to wear one, then self isolate, this way you reduce the risk of spread. However not enough awareness is being spread on the proper use of non pharmaceutical measures.
In my area for example, most people are now switching to face shields alone, probably for the convenience and that it can be easily reused. This however brings a compromise as it doesn't protect by filtering the air you breath in and can only be effective when combined with an efficient face mask or social distancing. Some of them are also constructed poorly and do not give full covering.

People have been and will continue to lose faith in the government. At a certain point that faith will come back and then slowly deteroiate again. There's never going to be this perfect government that everyone loves. It's just something that the past generation thought they had, people remember things as much better then they truly were.

Not sure on the science behind comparing the spread of stuff coming out of your mouth when it comes to face mask / face shield -- though I assume that it'd be more helpful to wear BOTH or just wear the mask.
687  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Pilotless Passenger Planes Might Soon Become A Reality. on: July 29, 2020, 07:21:46 AM
To be honest with you, if the co captain was the person that handled all that microphone stuff before takeoff and all that, I doubt many people would even know if the planes they are flying in are pioltless (I guess having a copilot present there doesn't make this so)

I still do think that most regulatory authorities, and REGULAR PEOPLE are going to want a human there with the knowledge of flying a plane in the scenario where something fails. No one is usually a big fan of falling out of the sky in a large box of metal. Just saying.

Speaking of conspiracy theories, I wonder if any candidates have ever died during the Presidential race.

Keeping that aside, it takes just one sensationalised headline or one leaked bit of information from an insider to be discussed all over the media which could make or break a campaign. Politics is too fickle, maybe the negative press and mass movement against Trump and against racism will ensure Biden wins the Presidential race. Maybe the rhetoric that saw Trump get elected to the white house in 2016 in the first place will be the same reason he will get re-elected.

I have my ears and ears focused to see what is going on in the run up to the November 2020 election Grin

Yup, long long time. Though I do think (as said before) that if an allegation comes from inside the Trump admin (Barr, or someone like this) then it's not going to be something that the liberals take seriously.

Could always have a wikileaks situation for either candidate. Credible sexual assault / harassement allegation.

Shit Biden and Trump are so old that by chance they could die of natural causes - though this would be FILLED with conspiracy theories though.

Just spitballing here, lol.

Yes. Election of 1872 the nominee of the one of the major parties died after the election but BEFORE the electoral college went ahead and voted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1872_United_States_presidential_election# So I'm not sure if that fits what you're talking about, but it still is someone dying during a presidential run.

100% - a headline can kill a race at any point.

Who knows though, still a long time from the election and ALSO a long time from the first debates (which could also change the fate of the election)
689  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Masks rule goes into effect in England as Boris Johnson calls anti-vaxxers 'nuts on: July 28, 2020, 07:32:16 AM
There are two types of people who are lumped into the anti vaxxer group of people.

One group of people are ACTUALLY crazy people, and they think that vaccines are being given to people to inject them with some sort of government control device or that vaccines cause autism, or track you, or some other bullshit conspiracy theory.

Then there are people that actually may have a side effect (or their child that they handle medical decisions for) that outwighs the benefit of getting the vaccine. I've read some stories of some people that have HORRID side effects from very simple vaccines (Flu an an example) -- Where for these people it makes sense for them to not take the vaccine as they'd literally have a horrid side effect.

Just something I wanted to write about for the anti vaxxer group of people.

Mask rules should go into effect, just wear it. You even get to cover your face from the government watching you. That's something, right?

....
Really want to know who they're outsourcing to handle this. I'm expecting that it's the same person for both parties (or same way of trying to get around spam filters while obviously spamming)

At least they haven't sold your burner, yet. lol.

My spam filters catch it all and put it in the spam filter. At least for me, it's not just Trump emails, but numerous politically oriented activities.

Trump one seem to get through every so often for me. Obviously they're still not listening to my beautiful unsubscribe from email, which isn't surprising given the way that they're targeting these emails with the scammy subject lines and such.

I really feel like this is just a way to kill the retention of your email list over a long period. You can be scammy and such a few times and it may work. But it's not going to work on people forever.

News update on another spammy side of the Trump/RNC fundraising outfit - https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2020/07/trump-campaign-angry-that-cell-carriers-blocked-spammy-texts-to-voters/ - Seems like phone carriers are blocking the texts as a scam. Trump campaign is currently negoiating with carriers. Curious on how that will turn out.

I wonder if there are still people who take this propaganda spam seriously. Logically, it seems that such people should not be many or should not be at all.
However, as life practice shows, there are too many people who believe in such nonsense. I wonder what would have happened if Trump's twitter had also been hacked and called for the purchase of bitcoin.

It's gotta work if they send it out this often.s

If he called for the purchase of Bitcoin? I mean probably nothing over a long period. Maybe just a short term push. Market may be more resistant then that these days though. Not too sure.

You are right, in politics in 100 days many things can happen. There are so many variables that could swing the election either way but momentum seems to be with Biden and he should not make any outlandish statements otherwise he will jeopardise any chance to winning. Trump on the other hand will probably not might not be going down the softly-soft approach instead might stick to his aggressive and direct comments approach which just could be what his supporters and those sitting on the fence need to get him re-elected.

As for the whole email server thing and what else happened in the run up to the 2016 election, nothing to say history will not repeat itself with some other allegation and investigation - who knows.

Yup, 100 days really is a LOT of time.

Remember when James Comey came out 7 days before the election and said that he was reopening the case into Hillary Clinton? I honestly think that is one of the things (not the only variable, but one of them) that helped in changing the fate of the 2016 election. That may not have the same effect now in regards to Biden, as people don't trust AG Barr and the FBI director Christopher Wray as they (liberals and some moderates) consider them Trump cronies. Guess we weren't so so hyper partisan back in 2016.

So, they already believe that bitcoin is better than the dollar.  Grin

By default, a decentralized currency (doesn't necessarily have to be a cryptocurrency) which is protected against inflation is going to be better when compared to centralized currencies which are prone to inflation. So I am not surprised by their admission of this fact. The federal reserve continues to print banknotes like crazy, and this further weakens the value of the United States Dollar. Gold is now trading at >$1,900 per oz, and it just shows how weak the USD has become in recent times.

And almost all the other fiat currencies in the world are influenced by the value and purchasing power of the USD. So when USD goes down, they also goes down. It is similar to the case of altcoins in the cryptocurrency market.

Better for you? Maybe.

Better for the government who wants to control the monetary supply of the country to have a finer control over their economy? No.

That's why the government got rid one of the gold standard (at least this was one of the reasons) If they can't control it based on their own whims, it's not something that they want to get involved in.

FIAT is better for every government. Crypto is yet to be determined on if it's 'good' for the citizens. I love Crypto as much as anyone else on here, though I don't know if we're going to see amazing adoption as we all once thought there was going to be.

You just might be right but polls in so many elections have been proven wrong in the past, having said that it seems Biden is on course for a victory.

What are the polls in the US showing right now? Is it looking all doom and gloom for Trump or are voters just not yet taking to a Biden presidency?

Biden leads by >10% in most polls but a lot can happen in 100 days.
Yes in the final run up to the actual polling day many things can happen and one factor to take in to consideration has to be if there will be a percentage of voters taking votes away from Biden and giving them to West if he actually does run for office.

Biden just make a gaffe or two which might tilt the balance back in favour of Trump....

Yup, 100 days really is a LOT of time.

Thanks for your show of confidence in me Smiley

I think eddie13 is going to lose but be very mature about it.  Smiley

but a lot can happen in 100 days.

There will be a lot more deaths, and every death leaves behind loved ones that will hate Trump's joke of a response.

Trumps reponse IS getting better, though it may not be enough to convince people that he cares. Kinda tough to show that you care after watching 140k people die (a bit more then two Vietnams) and then just NOW taking action (mask wearing, public relations campaigns, etc)
694  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Chinese Uighurs - concentration camps, slave labor on: July 23, 2020, 05:30:17 PM
No one is going to pull out of China because of this. No company (or country, politician, etc) really even cares that its happening. They only pretend to care when the news shines a light on it and people start sharing these horrible videos, which is why politicians know that they have to make a statement about how they're sanctioning some random Chinese officials.
A couple days ago when Pompeo was in the UK he raised the issue of religious freedom in China as it's not just the muslims that are getting "suppressed". Also, Japan has passed a budget to incentivize companies to move out of China. So far I think 80 are taking them up on the money and are going to move their companies to other countries and also back to Japan. Covid has made it clear to them that they need to make major changes to a lot of their supply chains. Japan isn't the only country (Australia is also talking about "partial" decoupling from China for example) but so far the US seems quiet on that front.

Some are going to do this if it profitable to do so. Contrary to popular belief China isn’t as cheap of a labor source as it used to be. The chinese workers are demanding a better wage and benefits, and they are successful in hetring some of this.

A lot of these countries in southeast Asia will draw in the factories leaving China.

US may incentivize the move too. Though not sure how China will respond to a move like that.
695  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The U.S. Senate is hearing about the digital dollar. on: July 23, 2020, 04:22:42 PM
The U.S. Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Policy conducted a hearing on “Winning the Economic Competition” between China and the U.S. on Wednesday.
The U.S. must be closely monitoring China's own CBDC development, and they are going to respond with the digital dollar; I don't think any of this countries want their CBDC to be like bitcoin or are creating it because of the bitcoin. This imo is purely political and a way of improving their economy. Since the digital dollar/yuan is not decentralized, so it's not like it's an alternative to the bitcoin.

What I'm foreseeing is that the competition is going to be between the CBDC's of the different countries about to launch them and not bitcoin, it'll be interesting to see how they are going to use it, and it's goals.

+1 to all of that. Doesn’t make sense for the US government to use something that they have no control over. Not sure on why some people think Bitcoin doing this is possible.

This simply is a political move to stop a geopolitical adversary from getting a leg up on the US. Nothing more and nothing less.

We’re in a cute little cold war with China, though this one is a bit more interesting as our economies are interwoven.
696  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The U.S. Senate is hearing about the digital dollar. on: July 23, 2020, 03:45:09 PM
I mean it’s no secret that the US government and their politicans are going to like the US dollar more. Kinda makes sense ya know given their position in wanting to control the currency of their economy.

Can’t control monetary policy if you’re using Bitcoin. Not saying that is a bad thing or a good thing, but still just something to take note of.

Digital Dollar will be a goal of lawmakers and regulators in the coming years due to the fact that China is close to releasing their own digital yuan. Increased control and the government is now happy they can now monitor more.
697  Other / Politics & Society / Re: POLL: November 2020 Trump or Biden? on: July 23, 2020, 03:24:50 PM
To my knowledge the most recent one term Presidents of the USA were Jimmy Carter and George H W Bush because both lost their second elections and did not get re-elected.

Historically each president gets 2 terms but personally i do not like Trump much but there are high chances he will be elected again and we have to live with it.

After a really dismal 1st term, Carter ran against an extremely strong candidate, Ronald Reagan, and lost.

After a lukewarm 1st term, Bush Sr. ran against an extremely strong candidate, Bill Clinton, and lost.

Now after a very strong 1st term, Trump seems to be running against the weakest US presidential opponent, EVER.

Not sure I would say a global pandemic that is ravaging the US at a much larger scale then any other nation of the world a strong 1st term.

I would’ve totally agreed with you pre COVID. But the Trump response to COVID was truly absymal and the American people know that. His poll numbers are horrible in general.

Is it possible to make a 180? Yes. But Trump will have to do a lot between now and November to stop the bleeding.

Trump even knows this. Why fire your campaign manager for a shakeup if you’re this super strong candidate?
698  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Chinese Uighurs - concentration camps, slave labor on: July 23, 2020, 02:49:01 PM

If Islamic country ask anything then they will be called as terrorists. Cheesy You can't find mush information about Muslims treated in the inhumane way because media doesn't even give attention to the issue, we all are just people if we are going to be separated by religions then other country can't involve much into this.

It's just insane how China is treating their minorities. Its not only the Muslim community or Hong Kong, China is still oppressing tibetians.
The western world should step up against China because no other countries would do so. Unfortunately the Muslim countries are looking for investments from China in their home market. Being dependant on that capital and investment inflow there are no critical voice from the Muslim communities against China. It's sad that such things are still being tolerated in 2020.

Yeah the western world just isn't going to do this. They know that it is profitable to just look the other way on China. Maybe they signal that they're trying some stuff to stop China from doing what they're doing with some sanctions or some plans to force China to change, but China will never listen.

China just changes just enough to please the Western media and public, and they're able to get away with whatever they want. What a system we have -- literally just allowing a Holocaust to happen in front of all of us.
699  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Another stimulus package is coming, where should congress be spending this money on: July 23, 2020, 08:37:18 AM
Little update on Stimulus money.

Seems to be a good amount of gridlock the Republican members of the Senate right now. Not surprising to see at all. As there are still (surprisingly) some members of the Republican party who care (or at least act when it somewhat matters) that the deficit is an issue and that it may not be the best idea to continue pumping money into an economy that may be able to recover on it's on. Not expressing my views, just what people in the caucus were saying.

But as of right now the Republicans and Democrats are looking at a potential $1 trillion stimulus package. Though they don't think they'll be able to iron everything out before the end of the month, which means the extra $600 across the US for unemployment is going to end.

B/c of this issue, they're thinking about giving that a temporary extension until as final plan is worked out. Highly doubt that after this new stimulus package that the $600 will last that long, seems like Republicans (including Trump with his veto power) are going to bring that amount of money down to 200-400 a week in additional money, though from some I've seen a number as low as $100.

Not sure what the right move is here. As you have many states in the US with surging numbers right now. Who knows we're well be in regards to deaths in the coming weeks, as the death numbers are ticking upwards (and deaths are a lagging indicator compared to infections, so that does make sense)

I don't think he's grasped the part about the statistical likelihood of what he's talking about here. Like -- there's so many cities in the US and at first (March/April) places were reporting large records of numbers so it makes sense that something like this would happen.

Yeah I get it...

Every newspaper and media organization in every city of the entire world has to make a report on the virus atleast once a day..

so many infact, that it is statisticly likely that they have used up every number between 1 and 1000, and maybe even higher up to 10,000 by now..

That's a whole lot of media time/exposure.. They sure do pound it out there good don't they..

Even that fact is crazy..

I mean -- when reporting is being done everyday in every newspaper across the country, we're bound for soemthing like this to happen. I only really 'came after ya' because you ended this whole thing with 'explain this, masklovers'

No one loves to wear a mask, but we all know that by wearing one we're ensuring that we protect our fellow citizens from ourselves and our germs. Slows the spread and helps. Not sure why there is so much hostility and partisanship over a mask.

But regarding the news stuff for a second, yeah I mean obviously they pound it down. Typically this is news when we hit 2 vietnams (in terms of deaths) in the span of a few months that totally came out of left field.
