1161  Other / Politics & Society / Re: In third world China, men death rate outpace everyone else. on: March 24, 2020, 01:40:28 PM
Not going to read this or anything, but just based on the abstract I think it would be a pretty good read. A bit older now though, sadly but the info is probably still relevant. Doubt much major societal change has happened in the last 25 years. Just further industrialization of China.

1162  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will all the world hold China responsible for corona-v on: March 24, 2020, 01:29:34 PM
Did the world hold the USSR responsible for Chernobyl?
The problem is no longer the virus itself, but the fact that it was hidden at an early stage. No one knows what is happening inside China, they are too closed and do not want to tell anyone anything.
We can't even say for sure whether 1.4 billion people actually live in China - because this figure is too high if you count all the losses for the 20th century, including the "cultural revolution" and other reformations. China is definitely to blame for the situation that we see - but the root cause is its total closeness in matters of information about the population, the REAL life of people and other things.
Just remember the Uighurs and the rumors that turned out to be true about them

+1 to this. China couldn't have known that the virus was going to turn out this way, but they SHOULD'VE let the public know that they were having an outbreak of some kind earlier. Not saying that would've changed anything, but it COULD have changed things.

I know that there have been reports and estimates regarding what could've been different if China had reported this earlier and hadn't just tried to cover it up. (Article Link - https://www.axios.com/timeline-the-early-days-of-chinas-coronavirus-outbreak-and-cover-up-ee65211a-afb6-4641-97b8-353718a5faab.html)

As an aside to this, China is currently reporting 0 new infections, which I think is bullshit. (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-18/as-china-virus-cases-near-zero-experts-warn-of-second-wave)
1163  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Italy quarantines 16 million people due to Coronavirus on: March 24, 2020, 01:13:44 PM
I was scrolling through the news and suddenly I read that 16 million people in Italy have been placed under quarantine to stop coronavirus from spreading, and this is alarming to be honest as I feel Milan which has seen highest cases reported is turning into second Wuhan. Further I’m sincerely praying for all those people who’re now stuck in north Italy, as they’ll have to be brave and follow the quarantine rules till 3rd April. Also I feel their economy will be badly hit by this quarantine, and what do you’ll think how long will it take for them to recover from this?.

Source:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-51787238

The world is in quarantine now. Not only a country. Yesterday I saw a news and it said that over one billion people are in quarantine now. It is really so hard for all people. Untill today More than 3 lakh people infected and every day is increasing.
China   81563
Italy      53578
Spain   28572
America   26881
Germany   22417
Iran   21638
France   14459
Korea   8897
Switzerland   6113

These all are latest coronavirus infected list from https://www.coronavirus-eyes.com/

Outside of china more 230124 people infected. It is really hard for the world.

This isn't true, there's no stat anywhere stating that a billion people are in quarantine. I've seen some news stories talking about the logistics of trying to feed 1 billion people while they're in quarantine -- because you still do have to keep grocery stores open or allow for drivers to deliver food orders, which would require an online ordering system and so on.

We may have that amount in quarantine at some point, though not now.
1164  Other / Politics & Society / Re: STAY AT HOME: Let us help everyone to kill the virus. on: March 24, 2020, 12:08:09 PM
While yes, staying at home won't KILL THE VIRUS it does help to end the virus from spreading, as there are less people congregating together which means theres less of a chance that people are going to continue to spread the illness. If sick and healthy people all stay home from work, and contact is limited for only essential activities, then there is just going to be less people getting sick. Can't argue on that one.

And if less people get sick, less people that are actually vulnerable to this are going to get sick. Then less people die.

Stay home.

Pretty funny post. Thought this meme was pretty fitting for the situation, shit is going to get pretty insane with inflation. Though it never seems like inflation peaks 3-4 percent.

1166  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coronavirus + Prisons on: March 24, 2020, 11:41:07 AM
Crazily enough I actually haven''t heard a thing about COVID-19 and the prison system, I guess they do also have a less chance of getting in then everyday pepople cause the only way they'd get it is from a guard, other prison staff, or visitor. The other prisoners aren't ya know, allowed to move freely. But once it does get to the prison, as it will, it'll be hard to stop.

The story you reference I'm pretty sure about prisons around the world is this one - https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/mar/24/hundreds-of-nsw-prisoners-could-be-released-early-under-covid-19-emergency-powers

Thousands of prisoners for non violent crimes are being released across the US to combat this - [Suspicious link removed]j.com/articles/jails-release-prisoners-fearing-coronavirus-outbreak-11584885600
A virus that is splitted into the air can be or get to anywhere in the world, you are right they can get infected by visitors or maybe prison Guards, just like you said you have not heard anything about them in prisons and Coronavirus, which happens to be why I created the thread so that people can be able to remember that they are captives in prison and not focusing on facemasks and sanitizers alone, prisoners are humans and must be shown kindness just like everyother person on earth.

I just meant in the sense that, they're pretty much MOSTLY all quarantined to the prison itself. It's not like they're going on public transportation, going to the groceery store, movies, etc. They're literally all stuck in this prison.

The people that they are getting it from through are doing all of these things -- these are the guards and other staff members at these prisons who don't live on the grounds.
1167  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How is Coronavirus affecting you? on: March 24, 2020, 11:22:56 AM
Many of the local grocery stores near me are shutdown temporarily. Some of the workers at their stores have tested positive for corona (at least one confirmed for them to shutdown) and they're going to through the mandatory state issues procedures on sanitzing the stores. All this is doing is putting more stress on the supply chains of over stores and online grocery shopping, which isn't really able to keep up with the increased demand.

Schools are closed, everyone is 'learning online' - take that as you will. Older people are under pretty hefty restrictions to stay inside as much as possible, for their own good.

1169  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The UK is moving towards forced isolation for people over 70. on: March 22, 2020, 08:16:08 PM
The reason they're getting closer and closer to fully doing this is because the old people in these nations (and lets be real, EVERYONE) wasn't taking this seriously at first

thats because we have some dumb nutters who stupidly want to spout out nonsense that people should be automatically immune from all viruses purely from being born

sorry but being born or being breast fed wont protect a 70yo guy
after all te 2019 strain was not even around in 1949 while the now 70yo was gestating

but hey nutter will be nutters and only use small quotes from small excerts that only fit their opinion. rather than do proper open minded research and then form an opinion based on multiple different sources

but until then we will ave idiots trying to promote their anti-vaxxer stance and vegan diets as some shield for all ailments
.. then will come phase two of their plan. become an affiliate marketer of suppliments and pills sized 'herbal' extracts

Though I think that they weren't take this seriously at first, though once they see this horrible virus come to their town and begin to kill people that they knew and they love, they will begin to take it seriously. I can understand that it may be hard to see something as legitimate if it's not close to you yet, and you just imagine it all the way around the world.

But when it's in your backyard, things get a lot more serious, FAST.
1170  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump constant attack on China signals something big is coming soon. on: March 22, 2020, 08:07:47 PM
Juggy, you know it'd be nice to mention here that when you're saying that 'Trump is attacking China' he's not using the US military to bomb chinese cities or anything like that, he's literally just bashing them in the media for the bad things that they're doing. As they should be. By the way, China does the same exact thing to the US every single day in their state run media (it's something that every country does, not with their allies, but with their adversaries)

Nothing big is company, this is literally normal stuff.

China did botch this by the way, there have been many reports saying that if China hadn't tried to hide this it wouldn't have been this bad. But China being China is what led us into this being as bad as it is now.
1171  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you believe the 2020 US democratic primary is being rigged? on: March 22, 2020, 07:56:27 PM
Yes, it's rigged by the same people who rigged it in 2016 - lazy millennials/X/Y/Z/whatever-the-fuck-comes-after-Z who support Bernie when polled but can't get off their asses to actually vote. There is lots of evidence of that (exit polls, turnout numbers) and zero evidence of actual voting fraud/manipulation. Voter suppression is a meaningless argument in a primary, particularly when the winning candidate has a significant minority support. Also there's absentee/mail-in voting.

The worst thing you can do now is to come up with conspiracy theories to justify it. Then don't show up in November and complain about Trump for the next 4 years.

+1 to this entire thing.

In 2016 there was actually issues though, as the DNC had been setting up join fundraising accounts with Clinton while Bernie was still in the race. This obviously is going against ethics of any regular person, which we understand. -- Here is a good article on the matter (https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/11/02/clinton-brazile-hacks-2016-215774)

But at the end of the day, even if the DNC was in financial cahoots with the Clinton Campaign, Bernie voters could've changed that with going out and voting for him in large numbers.

Young people just don't go out and vote. That's how we can sum this entire thing up. Young people are going to complain and complain about the candidate that is chosen, but they could've changed it if they fucking vote.
1172  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The UK is moving towards forced isolation for people over 70. on: March 22, 2020, 07:52:40 PM
The reason they're getting closer and closer to fully doing this is because the old people in these nations (and lets be real, EVERYONE) wasn't taking this seriously at first and some may not be taking this seriously not. The best way to 'flatten the curve' of infections is to stay home, that's it. There's no other way to handle things rather then just sitting on your ass and not interacting with others (your family is one thing, but that's it)

I have family members in southern Italy who still aren't listening to the Quarantine rules and are breaking them on the daily to go to the coffee shop, hangout with some friends, etc. All they're doing is making this worse for themselves which is why the government is thinking about action.
1173  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coronavirus Outbreak on: March 19, 2020, 03:37:24 PM
"By comparing the available genome sequence data for known coronavirus strains, we can firmly determine that SARS-CoV-2 originated through natural processes,"

Accelerated mutation and selective evolution is still a natural process. Even assuming there was absolutely no human interference with the evolution of this virus whatsoever, this still doesn't mean it is not a bio-weapon. A naturally evolved virus can still be intentionally released and used as a weapon. Nothing I am saying is even remotely debatable, it is fact.

An "accelerated forced mutation process done by raising many generations of the virus in a targeted environment" is in no way a "natural process." Natural selection is a natural process, which is what the article says was likely to be the case.

You have zero evidence that it is a "bio-weapon" -- that remains conspiracy-driven nonsense. The article concludes that it is likely a virus that either

a. evolved in an animal species through natural selection to be transmitted to a human, or
b. transmitted to a human in a non-pathogenic form and evolved to a pathogenic one afterward.

You are free to argue against the findings of people who actually know what they are talking about in order to keep pressing your own conspiracy theory, and I am free to point out that it relies on nothing but baseless beliefs and a general misunderstanding of biology.

Even if we were to go into the thought process that this was a bio weapon, and to ignore the evidence suggesting the other side of things. Here's where we would get with that.

Who is this bio weapon for? China? China was ravagaed by this virus and many people were infected and died in China. Was it Iran? Same thing happened to them. Who would do this that isn't going to be effected by it in some way? I don't know, this is not something you'd, be able to control and just set it upon one person.

1174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New coin for coronavirus on: March 19, 2020, 03:32:57 PM
The person who created these token was worse than a bug, this token just a pump & dump scheme just look the scheme of the coins itself. Also for the website, it seem like paid for making a review for this shitcoins.

In summary, a person/developers who investing & creating for this shit token was happy if everyone died because of this virus. The website and purpose on this token was created with 5th grade went the design also shit, they just focus everyone donates to the site itself.

Every scammer will be doing anything to steal your money, they don't even care about their conscience.

+1 This is literally what people do with every single popular thing. People literally make coins for random shit and then make up some bullshit about what the coin is used for, in reality, this coin is a pump and dump scheme with maybe an ICO or mining to be able to take your funds. These coins are mostly going to be on shitcoin exchanges (YoBit, and others)

This is like Trump Coin. It doesn't actually do anything, it's just a shitcoin with no usage and just marketing to try to get people to buy their worthless thing that anyone could make.
1175  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Depositing crypto into BlockFi to earn interest, ok or stupid idea? on: March 19, 2020, 03:29:57 PM
What is the incentive to reduce interest for amounts >20btc?  Do more, smaller deposits distribute risk, or give blockFI an additional advantage somehow?
No, it’s more likely simply due to the fact that they don’t have enough loans to cover the interests on if let’s say someone deposits 500BTC. They keep the interest high on smaller amounts probably to increase the awareness, and because they can actually generate the amount of interest on these smaller amounts with their outstanding loans.

But it’s just stupid because i’d simply let a relative/lawyer open another account if i want to go over the 20BTC mark, right?

These lending services are just weird to me.

Well these companies are taking your money and 'selling' it to people who use bitcoin on margin. That's where their money is to be made here. Typically it is going to be people who are shorting bitcoin are going to use their funds.

But yes, they may not have the demand from institutional investors (and others) who are shorting bitcoin to want more then 20 per account. And yes, you could have family members open everything up to go past it but you'd have to have them KYC all their information as well.

It's stupid if you think that the company is going to go under at some point, and that you'd be losing your funds. Which honestly, could happen to a crypto company at any point because there is a risk of hacking and stealing the funds (which isn't something that is present in traditional asset groups)

Is it within your personal risk tolerance to put all your funds at risk for 4-6 percent (as it does change with market movements)? You decide.
1176  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Banking issues on: March 19, 2020, 03:18:04 PM
Well, that sucks. But on the other hand, if you're in the UK then there are several bitcoin/crypto-friendly debit card providers that can be a good solution to think about. You should stop using your current bank for any cryptocurrency-related transactions if possible, and switch to another bank provider or use bitcoin debit card as I said above. Pretty sure you can find a lot of alternatives. Especially after Coinbase launchs their card.
I'm definitely going to look into changing banks, because as I mentioned I'm going to need a bank to receive payments from my job. I'll be withdrawing into Bitcoin far more regularly, and will have to find a bank which doesn't prevent me from doing so. I could just stay with the current bank, and use the alternatives you've mentioned, but out of principle I'm not going to do that.

Pretty sure a large amount of banks and credit card companies are going to avoid crypto not because they feel that crypto is this crazy new force that is going to take over their business, but because they know that a large amount of scammers are going to steal peoples credit / debit card numbers / bank accounts and use that to buy crypto with.
Its annoying, and I'm almost convinced its because it was for cryptocurrency. As I've said previously I've made higher payments to relatively unknown companies unless you're familiar with expeditions. Companies like Jagged Globe, adventure consultants, and mountain madness aren't going to be known to many, but that went through without any issues. I believe the bank likely has a flag for certain exchanges. I used a somewhat popular exchange, and maybe that was my issue. I understand the fraud prevention, and contacting you. However, if you've done everything in your power to confirm your identity, you should be able to send it without physically going to the bank, especially since non essential travel has been issued in my country. Now the Bitcoin price is raising, and I've missed the gap that I identified I'm quite annoyed.

Oh yes, very annoying and something that I think is stupid when you literally have the customer on the other end of the phone telling you no the payment wont go through. You're probably sitting their like -- damn this is literally MY MONEY.

But I do understand the concerns of the bank, as they've probably had to deal with many unauthorized transactions to crypto purchasing websites from people who lost their debit card, credit cards, bank account login, etc.

I'd just attempt to find a crypto friendly back (from other peoples expierences) in the UK. You're not going to be the one person to convince your entire bank to stop doing something relating to crypto, though there are other banks that dont have issues with this.
1177  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Market Inefficiency or Extreme Uncertainty? on: March 19, 2020, 03:08:18 PM
Rather: 3 a percent chance of all of them dying and then someone else coming in and winning the race. That's what this is for, it's not saying that a third party candidate will come in. It's saying that someone outside of these people, from either party, will win the presidency (with all of these people together having a 3 percent chance of doing so)

Not going to happen,  but yeah this is probably pretty common.
1178  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Banking issues on: March 19, 2020, 07:35:35 AM

This is the real reason why banks avoid this.

Whenever a bank does ask this question though, I'd say 'money transfer' or something along those lines next time. Not lying if you say that. Only answer the questions they ask. Sucks with all the trouble though.
1179  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump vs Germany in a bid to acquire vaccines for US only. on: March 19, 2020, 05:58:59 AM
Honestly, this just seems all speculation with no proof and highly subjective. It is just as easy to say that Trump planned on buying it so that he could distribute it around the world. Both claims have no proof. I'm sure trump planned on wanting it for US citizens, but we can't argue that it's a certain argument.

Oh yeah 100%. I'm just saying the way that I believe all of this went down, and the writer of the article has a wholee other store. Neither one of us have any sort of info on what actually happened here. We're literally all just shooting the shit about what we think (based on our opinion of the people).

This isn't being expanded upon though in the media, so I doubt we're ever going to be able to find out what was actually true.

Maybe throw Samourai Wallet and their whirlpool function on their? Pretty big fan of that one myself and you're now going to be able to do everything on mobile (given that you have an android phone) I'd tell anyone who is really serious about this to check Samourai out and see how they truly care about the privacy of their users.

https://samouraiwallet.com/whirlpool

and then just use the link minus whirlpool for the rest of the the features of whirlpool.
