I know there are other things going on right now. But Bloomberg has won his first state --err I mean territory of American Samoa. Tulsi Gabbard came in second.

This awards them 5 delegates and 1 delegate respectively. If the current debate rules stay in place by the DNC, Tulsi and Bloomberg will both have a permanent spot on the debate stage. Been a long time since Tulsi was on the stage. But this could be changed by the DNC!

As we expected Bernie wins Vermont. Biden wins NC and Virgina. As of now!
1242  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: March 02, 2020, 11:04:32 PM
Amy Klobuchar drops out and will endorse Biden.

Everyone's doing their best to screw up Bernie's Tuesday Smiley

Yup, they're all clearing the way to try to go up against Bernie -- and they've picked Biden to do so. He's totally offered a cabinet spot to Pete, Klobuchar may have gotten either a cabinet spot or the VP spot (true for both honestly).

This is the DNC's way of trying to flip this race to being something that Bernie is unable to win. They're praying that they can beat him on the first ballot, though I think the chances of this are VERY slim, or in a contested convention (a PR nightmare for the dems, but they're willing to do it to push Bernie away)

TOMORROW IS GOING TO BE CRAZY GUYS!!!!!
1243  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Julian Assange: Extradition Hearing (from UK to US) begins in London on: March 02, 2020, 08:45:51 PM
Trump seems to have played the outsider card to get in to the Whitehouse but it is highly questionable if he ever was really an outsider. Now all that matters for all parties is what happens in November. I think it will be very difficult to dislodge him because once again the popular vote will probably go with the Democrat candidate but what will happen to the college vote? How many of those will the Democrats be able win?

Trump may as well be an outsider at certain points. Like when something like this happens - https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/23/politics/intelligence-briefer-russian-interference-trump-sanders/index.html - where a US intelligence briefer (to congress) overstated the assement of Russian interference in their picking of a candidate.

But yes, at the end of the day Trump is the commander in chief and he is NOT an outsider in the least. That's not a fair way to describe yourself when you're the one that is running the show.

If we're going to talk about what Trump was before the election, I think it's fair to say that he was an outsider. As he truly was. The RNC did try to stop him from getting the nomination, and the Never Trump movement was prominent, but at the end of the day he galavanized enough primary support and free air time to win. He also convinced the party that he'd be able to win in November -- and he did.

Trump was an outsider then, but after 4 years in the WH I don't think he can run on that outsider card anymore. He's literally not an outsider, he's the President of the United States. He's the biggest insider.
1244  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New Study Reveals: Partisanship Still Best on: March 02, 2020, 04:47:17 PM
While some of them might disagree with the results due to their political affiliations, just know that the researchers involved with this project are the some of the most qualified, reputable, and consistent scientists on our side.

Here is what Dr. Masyde Reisad had to say when it came to political affiliation:

"Over multiple weeks the research team has analyzed the projected outcome of various political choices. What we have discovered is that when the individuals in the study aligned themselves with our partisan option, we found a high degree of success in the establishment of positive policies. In fact, we found that as the rate of partisanship approaches 1, so too does the percentage of valuable, unbiased policies!

Strangely, there appears to be a linear relationship between partisanship and political success."

The facts are clear, people. Stop staying on the wrong side of history. For each person that joins the true, logical political party, we are one step closer to a perfect world.
Whoever "THEM" is?

No such doc in google,

No link.

Yeah I think we're all waiting for this. If I get hit with some blog spam I'm going to be pretty pissed, but not surprised. Then again, could just be someone who forgot to throw the link at the bottom of the post. We'll see!
1245  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: March 02, 2020, 04:32:59 PM
The winner of an election being the one who got the most votes. On a technicality. A plurality of delegates in this case indicates that he would probably get the majority of the people in a 1 VS 1 election for the nomination.

Biden is actually winning the popular vote at the moment by a decent margin despite being behind in delegates.  I was pretty surprised when I saw this.

Going to assume this is pretty much b/c of the LARGE win in South Carolina and the second place showing he needed in Nevada. Iowa and NH don't have that many people, but NV and South Carolina do -- which leads to Biden being able to make up for his horrible finishes in the other states.

This entire thing is going to go down to the wire. With Pete dropping out that's going to help the candidates get to the 15 percent threshold. If they do that, it's going to hurt Bernie pull the delegates in that he needed. Bernie will still most likely win a good deal of the Super Tuesday contests -- but not enough delegates to have a majority  by the time the convention comes around.

Tomorrow folks, get the party hats on!

Did they have toilets and were they nice? If not I can understand it.

If a trucker is taking a pee or a dump in a truck you don't want their hands coming straight onto your cafe tables...

On an extra note, things like this add a psychological factor its like the cafes trying to scream "we're clean!".

+1 to the psychological factor of things here. People don't notice but that's a large majority of what people do-- to make themselves look like they're a certain way, even when they know that they're not.

But honestly I don't think it's that much of a problem. People are scared because of what the media is going to blow this whole thing out of proportion. People don't understand that while the problem is pretty big, the coronavirus still isn't as deadly as something like the Flu. But the Flu isn't news, so the media can't run with it. This is why they're running with the coronavirus.

Media loves panic, and they're going to run with this until they cant.
1247  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New Study Reveals: Partisanship Still Best on: March 02, 2020, 04:17:43 PM
But Partisanship (Or Hyper Partisanship) isn't something that can go on forever. We've seen times in history when one party takes over control of the government -- it may work for a few years (or a few election cycles) but slowly the party will split at a certain point. The party will develop people on one side and people at another, you'll slowly see the party go into some sort of civil war and then we're back to a two party system again.

We've seen this time and time again in history, there's no way around this.
1248  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "Key Witness in Harvey Weinstein Trial Hit by Car and Hospitalized" on: March 01, 2020, 11:06:55 PM
I mean -- even if this is the case, which it probably isn't, Weinstein was still found guility and it doesn't change anything. This case is going to go to sentencing, then appeal, then his new rape cases are going to start against him.

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/next-for-weinstein-sentencing-appeal-and-another-rape-case/2302697/

So this doesn't mean anything, eh?

Unless of course this case has further implications, and Harvey knows where some bodies are buried... This could just as well be a message to him that secondarily serves as a chill effect for anyone willing to cooperate in these sorts of prosecutions. He did in fact know Jeffery Epstein after all.

Or she just got hit by a car in a completely unrelated incident. I do think that this may cause some issues when it comes to the appeals process -- as there's going to be some issues with having witnesses come to the stand again (if the case is sent back to the court for a redo)

He's literally going to exhaust every single option to not have to sit in a cell and get fucked up by his cellmates.

1249  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bernie Sanders is the Frontrunner for the Dems on: March 01, 2020, 10:38:01 PM
Biden got the win that he needed in South Carolina, and because of that the chances of a contested convention has went up substantially. Sanders is going to have the most delegates by the time the convention will come around, but as of right now he's not going to have the 50 percent needed to clinch the nomination.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-primary-forecast/

This is going to get very interesting very fast. There's a couple roads that we can go down here.

1. Bidens finish means nothing, Bernie is still going to crush it in Super Tuesday. This is Bernies best shot to getting over the 50 percent number, still going to be tough though.

2. Bidens finish makes the moderates rally around him. He's their last chance to winning and they rally around him to ensure that he's the nominee instead of Bernie. Bernie still gets the most delegates but not by much.

538 is a pretty good one to read though, very interesting.
1250  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Afghanistan: US and Taliban Sign Deal Trying To End 18 Year Old War on: March 01, 2020, 10:23:27 PM
Not exactly just yet though. There are problems a day after signing the deal because of differences. Even if things go ahead without any issues it will be over a year before US troops are withdrawn from Afghanistan.

it is not possible to end a war with the taliban

Actually is possible. just happened. I think that means they won. Afghanistan for afghans, finally!

+1 to this.

I know that Afghanistan and the Taliban are having issues with their end of this deal, and ya know that's to be expected. Kinda hard to sign a deal between a terrorist group and a country that has been plagued by the problems of this terrorist group for the longest time.

Current news on this part of things - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/01/mike-pompeo-us-taliban-deal-afghan-rejection-clause - But this is yet again, to be expected. This is between a country that was plagued by the horribleness of the Taliban for years. I'm going to assume that the people of Afghan want to be tough on the Taliban, and the US just wants this to end.

But ya know, we'll see.

I'm a bit nervous of Bernie TBH because I like him as a person and believe he is sincere like I believe Trump is sincere.. But I could never vote for his positions..

Bloomberg is just wasting a bunch of money..

Don't be. While I agree he has the most support of all the current options, he is also being sabotaged by his own party. Additionally anyone with a few brain cells to rub together knows what he is offering is not possible economically even at a 100% tax rate. Don't underestimate the push back from moderates and liberals that dislike Trump but know Bernie will bern it all down. Also, Bernie just lost himself Florida with his Cuba comments.

My prediction is the Coronavirus will greatly favor Trump in the general election. Here is why:
* Everyone will have to pare back social gatherings, such as dinner fundraisers, and political rallies. This will make it more difficult for the Democrat nominee to both fundraise and get the base energized. Trump already has a huge fundraising advantage. Also, Trump can call a press conference anytime he wishes and pretty much every major news network will broadcast it live because Trump is the President. The democratic nominee is free to call a press conference as he chooses, but it will not command the same level of attention.
* Trump will have the opportunity to show leadership in his handling a possible outbreak (if one occurs), and to act presidential while dealing with it. This is not unlike what Obama did after Superstorm Sandy hit the east coast when Obama was pretending to act presidential.
*Democrats will almost certainly attack any success that Trump has, which will turn off swing voters.

Also, one other thing. One linchpin that Trump has been dependent on is the economy running well. With the Coronavirus taking full responsibility (justified or otherwise) people are going to be less likely to pin the fault on him when the economy inevitably grinds to a halt as a result of supply chains vaporizing. People are also less willing to make big changes in disaster scenarios.

Yeah, I see tons of Dems saying that the Dow going down this much is going to cause Trump to lose the presidency because of the 401k voters voting with their wallet. I doubt it.

I think that if the WH and the Trump campaign is able to keep the focus on the virus and how it's causing issues that they're dealing with appropriately -- then the voters will understand that this is something that is out of their hands.

We'll see though, as this is truly a curveball.
1253  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WW2: California Sorry for Japanese American Camps - too little too late? on: February 28, 2020, 01:16:47 AM
I am not suggesting anything of the sort, rather asking questions to ascertain public opinion about the subject.

It is true as you pointed out the governments of the past have apologised even though they were not involved in nor stood by but what exactly does the apology of the state assembly of California mean and why did they do it at this moment in time?

I mean I don't know what else you want the government to do? They've lost major lawsuits relating to the topic, and they've paid out major reparations to those that are still alive and to the families of those that suffered. They've apologized time and time again for what was done.

But they're apologizing for something that none of them were involved in, and none of them stood by. What more do you want these people to do? As you cant change the past. What would be enough?

I mean the State of Assembly of California is going to make the apology because the Japanese internment camps were setup in their state and most likely done in a combination of efforts between the state of California and the US federal government. Which is why the California state assembly did this (and I doubt it was only done once, probably multiple times) and I know that the US federal government has apologized and paid reparations as well.

Quick lateral question here: Is the OP really written by you?

On the Spanish forum there is a post that is an exact translation, that states that the source is a third party forum. A couple of days ago, another user posted the exact same content in Bitcoin Discussion, but swapped the gender of the grandparent to grandpa. This latter post was deleted, so I’ve maned to retrieve the content using @LoyceV’s archival data, but not the date of publication (24/02/2020 if I’m right, since it’s when I spotted it and I posted right after the OP – thread was deleted).

Can you shed some light here on this?

1255  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: February 27, 2020, 02:58:05 AM
Yep, even in countries with large numbers of parties -- at the end of the day these parties typically end up in a coalition with two large groups. One being the people in power, and the others being apart of the opposition.

It's just a more complex way of going to two parties again.

Though I think in the US when we talk about having a third party, we think and talk about this party taking the place of one of the other two. At least that's what I think.

We have a better chance reforming the existing parties. Both have gone through lots of change. IMO the Republicans have made some improvements while the Democrats are in full reverse.

Not sure of that, what reason would the parties want to be reformed and how would they be reformed? A party is like a private company, they cant be forced by the government to change things just cause they want to. The parties (from within) are the only chance to change things, which I think limits the ability for this change to happen without some sort of 3rd party challenge.

That's how a good deal of change (politically) has happened in America. A 3rd party has grown, or brings some sort of idea to the forefront of politics, and one of the 2 big parties uses that ideas and runs with it.

That's why someone like Andrew Yang ran for office. He knew he wasn't going to win, but he wanted to bring the information relate to UBI to the people.

Who said anything about them wanting to reform? They are currently being forced to reform like it or not. The Democrat party's actions have become so unpopular, in order to continue existing as an effective party, they are being forced to change, or be abandoned. Andrew Yang ran as a Democrat, not a third party, so you are kind of proving my point.

What do you mean being forced to reform? Who can force them to reform? No one, no one at all can force them to reform.

How in gods name did I prove your point by saying that Andrew Yang ran as a Democrat? Just because you run on the party line doesn't mean you're a member of the party or share the ideals of the party.

I would say that Donald Trump, as a candidate, was a moderate on a good deal of issue and only ran on the Republican ticket because that's the only way you're able to win.

Andrew Yang did the same thing. You're not able to gain as much relevance if you run as a third party candidate. Like right now if I began to run on South Carolina as a democrat and picked up one delegate, I'd be able to be on the debate stage -- that's the reason people run. They get a platform. Even if they don't agree with the party they're running with.

I wouldn't describe someone like Bloomberg as a Democrat in the least, but he runs on their ticket as that's the only way to be able to win.
1256  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "UK Govt. Approves Net Censorship – Free Speech Dies" on: February 27, 2020, 02:51:05 AM
wow, i taught this is only happening in Africa. another coward in Africa (BUHARI) is talking about passing social media hate speech bill!!

It happens in the USA too, except here the role is played by corporations as a proxy for the government and other entities to work around that pesky first amendment to The Constitution.

While this is pretty much gravedigging ish now, this is a pretty crazy conspriracy theory to think about. Though it doesn't fully make sense when you realize that the government would never own their own social media platform (like reddit, facebook, instagram, myspace, etc)

While corporations do police what people post, it's done for the advertisers to be happy. Not for any other reason -- at least that's what I think on the issue.

I'd love to hear you explain a bit though

Pence just named the guy in charge of the Coronavirus (obviously alongside the other public health experts in the administration) https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-says-coronavirus-risk-americans-very-low-administration-effectively-handling-n1143756

Not sure on why this is the case, but I guess the President has a lot on his plate to begin with that it makes it easier to delegate this one to someone who has real responsibilities (the VP). So yeah.
1258  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WW2: California Sorry for Japanese American Camps - too little too late? on: February 27, 2020, 12:55:09 AM
Did they also made German camps, and Italian camps? Surely the other axis countries would have supporters in American soil wouldn't they? Or was is something especially racist against Japanese?

Definitely too late, the victims of the State segregation are mostly gone by now...

They did not allow Germans or Italians to have a ham radio.

They did not jail them.

Having some Italian ancestors I am pretty sure of this to be a fact.

Japanese owned some good pieces of land in California some of it was stolen. So it was a land grab more than anything.

This is the most disgusting part to me to be honest. If you are to put people in cages, that's horrible and that's one thing. But while they're gone, you're not just allowed to take their land -- or say they're not paying their taxes and seize their land.

They're not paying their fucking taxes cause you put them into a cage, so that's god damn despicable and that is why repatriations should've been done on a case by cases basis. But what's done is done, nothing more this generation can do then apologize and try to compensate the estates (and with that, their next of kin).

Very well articulated, I agree with you. It looks clear that Assange is definitely the outsider and Trump was positioned by himself and his party to look like an outsider.

Kindly elaborate. I can understand the analogy when it is applied to Assange but cannot see it apply to Trump no matter which way it is applied.

Trump and Assange are both outsiders fighting the system.
I think there's a distinction to be made here. Assange is an outsider, Trump positions himself so that he looks like an outsider.
